Background / History

Itadori’s grandfather died in the hospital after urging him to use his strength to save others and avoid dying alone. After making funeral arrangements, Itadori met Megumi Fushiguro and learned that the object held by his school upperclasswomen was dangerous. He immediately accompanied Megumi to rescue them 25.

Appearance

• School clothing: Wears a Jujutsu High uniform after enrolling 28.
• During Sukuna’s possession: Strange markings appear on his face and body, along with an additional pair of eyes beneath his own. The markings disappear when Itadori regains control 25 33.

Personality

Itadori is cheerful, enthusiastic, and eager to learn from stronger companions. Initially unfamiliar with basic jujutsu concepts, he openly asks questions about curses and Jujutsu High terminology rather than concealing his ignorance 28 29 31.

His concern for others repeatedly outweighs his own safety. He enters his school despite Megumi’s instruction to stay outside, refuses to abandon Yuanfang at the detention center, and later retakes his heartless body to prevent Sukuna from using a domain against Yuanfang 25 31 33 34.

He reacts fiercely to cruelty, particularly Mahito’s manipulation of Junpei and the accusations of Junpei’s former bully. Nevertheless, he respects Yuanfang enough to stop when his senior intervenes 39 40 42.

His playful side includes teasing Nobara about her interest in Yuanfang, though this earns him a flying kick. Beneath his sunny manner, he recognizes that his execution threat could prevent him from having a future relationship or an ordinary happy life 30 47.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Becoming Sukuna’s Vessel

During the school rescue, Itadori swallows Sukuna’s Finger and unexpectedly regains control after possession. Yuanfang and Gojo separately test his ability to release and suppress Sukuna. Gojo then agrees to protect him after Megumi and Yuanfang ask that he be spared, despite jujutsu regulations calling for his execution 25 26 27.

His first training assignment under Yuanfang pairs him with Nobara to exorcise curses in an abandoned building. Since he cannot yet control cursed energy effectively, Yuanfang lends him a cursed-energy-bearing Tang Dao and explicitly forbids him from releasing Sukuna 28 29.

Detention Center and Revival

In July 2018, Itadori joins Yuanfang, Megumi, and Nobara at Eishu Juvenile Detention Center. When a Special Grade appears, he offers to remain with Yuanfang and release Sukuna if necessary. The students eventually retreat, only to encounter a second Special Grade 31 32.

Sukuna emerges, kills that spirit, consumes its Finger, and removes Itadori’s heart. Itadori delays reclaiming control while Yuanfang can withstand the fight, but intervenes when Sukuna begins invoking Malevolent Shrine. He collapses and is brought back to Jujutsu High as dead 32 33 34.

His chest wound later disappears, and he revives before Gojo, Shoko Ieiri, and Ijichi. He cannot remember whether Sukuna said anything before his return, leaving Gojo without an explanation 34.

Junpei and Mahito

Itadori enters Junpei’s school after noticing a Curtain and calling Nanami. He persuades Junpei to question his attack on the students, then recognizes Mahito and attempts a rescue. Yuanfang’s intervention prevents Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration from changing Junpei 39 40.

Itadori and Yuanfang corner Mahito, with Itadori’s soul-damaging blows proving crucial. Nanami intercepts Mahito’s sewer escape, but an unknown attacker throws a C4 bomb. Yuanfang shields Itadori and Nanami from the flames, and Mahito escapes 40 41.

After confirming that the students survived, Itadori invites Junpei to Jujutsu High. Three days later, Gojo publicly reintroduces Itadori alongside Junpei, revealing his survival to his grieving classmates 42.

Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event

Itadori joins the event while Gakuganji seeks an opportunity to assassinate him. The Tokyo team assigns him to hold off Todo so Yuanfang can support the others. Todo refuses Gakuganji’s murder plan, but still confronts Itadori as an opponent when the competition begins 43 47 48.
