Refined Idle Transfiguration and increased combat strength 37 38 Opens a hole in his torso to evade a punch, develops horse-like legs for a charging assault, and later grows wings. Yuanfang observes that Mahito has rapidly progressed from an inferior opponent to an equal who can gain the upper hand.
Domain Expansion awakened 40 Awakens his domain under the threat of death while fighting Yuanfang and Itadori. Yuanfang nullifies it almost immediately, leaving Mahito depleted rather than securing a victory.

Appearance

  • Skin: Grayish-white, with conspicuous stitch lines that give him a corpse-like appearance 27.
  • Hair: Blue and shoulder-length 27.
  • Clothing at his debut: An ordinary blue short-sleeved shirt 27.
  • Mutable body: Can replace his humanoid features with blades, a spiked club, animal limbs, wings, or a liquid-like form 27 36 37 38 41.

Personality

Mahito treats people as toys and potential works of art. Yuanfang’s resistance to his technique fascinates him rather than immediately frightening him; after being kicked away during their first encounter, he laughs and declares that he will make Yuanfang his “most perfect creation” 27.

His manipulation of Junpei is deliberately cruel. He encourages the boy to murder his bullies, undermines Itadori’s attempts to intervene, and then reveals his contempt while trying to transfigure Junpei. Part of his motive is simply to enjoy Junpei’s expression upon discovering the deception 39.

Mahito is also inventive and willing to retreat. Once he learns that Yuanfang cannot nullify physical attacks, he turns to conventional explosives. Failed attempts make him seek stronger weapons, while depleted cursed energy or overwhelming opposition prompts him to escape 28 35 37 38 40.

Abilities & Skills

Idle Transfiguration

Mahito’s cursed technique reshapes bodies through contact and allows extensive alteration of his own form 27 37 39.

  • Contact attacks: Attempts to transfigure Yuanfang by touching his face and later his injured body; also attempts to transfigure Junpei 27 37 39.
  • Transfigured humans: Nanami encounters humans Mahito has altered in the sewers 39.
  • Technique nullification: Yuanfang prevents the technique from affecting himself and protects Junpei from the same fate 27 38 39 40.
  • Persistence of the counter: Even Yuanfang’s near-fatal injuries do not disable his nullification, thwarting Mahito’s attempt to exploit his weakened condition 38.

Self-Transfiguration

Mahito reshapes his body for offense, defense, movement, and deception.

  • Natural weapons: Forms curved arm blades and a spiked club 27 28 36.
  • Evasion: Opens a hole through his torso so Yuanfang’s punch passes through without hitting him 37.
  • Mobility: Uses horse-like legs to charge and wings to fly away 37 38.
  • Escape forms: Becomes a mouse to enter a manhole; later swells, bursts apart, and flows into a sewer in liquid-like form 28 40 41.
  • Imitation: Shapes his arm into Yuanfang’s likeness to identify him to Kenjaku 35.
  • Restraint: Enlarges a hand to seize and lift Itadori 39.

Bodily Restoration and Soul-Based Defense

Mahito rapidly repairs physical damage, but attacks that reach his soul pose a genuine threat 28 40.

  • Restoration: Regenerates a broken arm and repeatedly repairs severe wounds during his first fight with Yuanfang 28.
  • Cursed-energy dependence: Sustained attacks can exhaust the energy needed to maintain his body; after two and a half hours against Yuanfang, he retreats 28.
  • Soul vulnerability: Itadori can perceive the soul’s contours because he shares his body with another presence, allowing him to injure Mahito directly 40.
  • Limits under pressure: Itadori’s soul damage, Yuanfang’s energy absorption, and Nanami’s ambush leave Mahito unable to move during the school battle 40 41.

Domain Expansion

Mahito awakens a domain while cornered by Itadori and Yuanfang 40.

  • Two pairs of small hands emerge from his mouth to form hand signs.
  • Enormous black hands rise from the ground toward his opponents.
  • Yuanfang erases the manifestation after roughly one second and absorbs its cursed energy.
  • The failed expansion leaves Mahito panting and urgently seeking an escape 40.

Manipulation and Tactical Planning

  • Psychological coercion: Exploits Junpei’s resentment and concern for his mother to encourage violence against his classmates 39.
  • Binding-vow scheme: Plans to execute people in front of Itadori to force him into proposing terms favorable to Sukuna 39.
  • Ambush preparation: Lures Yuanfang into a wooded area rigged with C4 37 38.
  • Exploiting a weakness: Recognizes that conventional weapons can bypass Yuanfang’s technique nullification because it does not block physical attacks 35 37.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • C4 explosives — Used in the forest ambush that burns Yuanfang’s body and destroys both legs. Mahito deliberately uses fewer bombs because he wants to preserve Yuanfang as a transfigured creation 37 38.
  • Stronger weapons sought abroad — Requests weapons more powerful than C4. Kenjaku proposes obtaining them outside Japan, but the supplied chapters do not confirm their acquisition 38.

Relationships

  • Yuanfang — A priority target whose nullification directly counters Idle Transfiguration. Mahito repeatedly tries to kill or transform him; Yuanfang treats Mahito as a source of cursed energy and keeps him alive for an undisclosed plan 27 28 35 37 39 40 41.
  • Kenjaku — Ally and strategic adviser, whom Mahito addresses as “Geto.” Explains Yuanfang’s weakness, approves the Itadori scheme, and offers help sourcing weapons abroad 35 38 39.
  • Yuji Itadori — Target of psychological coercion and a dangerous opponent capable of damaging Mahito’s soul 39 40.
  • Junpei — Manipulated pawn whom Mahito encourages to attack his bullies, then betrays by attempting to transfigure him in front of Itadori 39.
  • Kento Nanami — Enemy investigating his transfigured humans. Nanami ambushes him in the sewer and leaves him immobilized 39 41.
  • Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon — Fellow cursed spirits in Kenjaku’s group. Mahito discusses the Gojo-sealing plan and his experiments with conventional weapons in their presence 35 38.

Story Role / Major Arcs

First Encounter with Yuanfang

Mahito approaches Yuanfang after becoming curious about a man who can see him despite having no detectable cursed energy. His initial transfiguration attempt fails, and their fight becomes a prolonged contest between Yuanfang’s physical superiority and Mahito’s bodily restoration. After two and a half hours, Mahito escapes as a mouse when his cursed energy begins running low 27 28.

The Conventional-Weapons Strategy

During a meeting about sealing Gojo in Shibuya on October 31, Mahito insists that Yuanfang must first be eliminated. Kenjaku’s explanation of Yuanfang’s vulnerability to physical attacks gives him a new approach 35.

Mahito subsequently lures Yuanfang into a C4 ambush. The blast nearly kills him, but Yuanfang awakens Reverse Cursed Technique and heals before Mahito can transfigure him. Mahito escapes by flight and asks Kenjaku for more powerful weapons 36 37 38.

Junpei and the School Confrontation

Mahito proceeds with a scheme intended to force favorable binding-vow terms from Itadori. He goads Junpei into attacking his classmates, then attempts to transform him as Itadori watches. Yuanfang’s intervention prevents the transformation 39 40.

The ensuing two-on-one battle exposes Mahito’s vulnerability to Itadori’s soul-damaging attacks. His newly awakened domain is nullified, and his sewer escape leads into Nanami’s ambush. An unidentified attacker throws a C4 bomb, creating the opening through which Mahito escapes 40 41.

Effect on Later Curse Tactics

Hanami later acknowledges that Mahito was right when Yuanfang nullifies her root attacks, then uses a C4 bomb against him. The encounter shows that Mahito’s discoveries about Yuanfang’s defenses have informed his allies’ tactics 50.
