Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Ancient body-swapping sorcerer 53 57 58 Initial documented capabilities include possession, access to a host’s cursed technique, Gravity Manipulation through technique reversal, Reverse Cursed Technique, and an open domain.
Buddha-form ultimate life-form 126 127 Substitutes herself for Tengen in an improvised ritual. Her host body breaks apart, and her soul and cursed energy enter the accumulated energy above Japan. The energy changes into a new form, producing a colossal, three-faced, eight-armed body.
Population-linked assimilation form 130 133 Connects herself to a hundred million ordinary citizens through black threads. Gains access to their energy reserves and dormant cursed techniques while transmitting information intended to transform them into beings like herself.
Exposed demonic form 134 135 Satoru’s Black Flash breaks the golden exterior and reveals a demonic face. This is accompanied by worsening loss of consciousness rather than a confirmed increase in power; destroying her head still fails to sever the population links.

Background / History

Kenjaku survives for more than a thousand years by repeatedly transplanting her brain into new bodies. During that time, she lives as both men and women, experiences marriage and pregnancy, travels throughout Japan, and investigates the origins and possibilities of jujutsu 53 88 124 170.

During the Meiji Period, she exploits a woman capable of conceiving a cursed spirit’s child. Nine forced pregnancies and abortions, combined with Kenjaku’s blood and cursed energy, produce the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings—beings neither fully human nor cursed spirit 78 132 170.

After possessing Kaori Itadori, Kenjaku gives birth to Yuji Itadori using her previous experimental knowledge and undisclosed conditions. Unlike an ordinary vessel, Yuji can suppress Sukuna’s consciousness while awake. Kenjaku designs him both as a suitable body for Sukuna and as a safeguard against Sukuna escaping her control 78 89.

Her intended culmination is the Culling Game. She plans to abduct Tengen, build a larger barrier upon Tengen’s ten major barriers, and gather energy from deadly sorcerer battles and nationwide fear. Pouring that energy into Tengen would force an evolution into the ultimate existence Kenjaku hopes to witness. Chinatsu’s protection of Tengen eventually makes this approach untenable 90 123.

Appearance

  • True body: A grotesque brain with a mouth 123.
  • Identifying scar: A horizontal surgical incision remains across the forehead after possession. Kenjaku cannot remove it by changing bodies 53 61 125.
  • Main host: Kaori Itadori’s body, which Kenjaku continues using during the nationwide crisis 78 123 124.
  • Disguise: Uses a stolen hat to conceal the forehead scar while evading surveillance 66.
  • Buddha form: An immense golden body with three compassionate faces, eight arms, a celestial crown, jeweled strands across the chest, and a red-glowing pendant between the brows. Aoi Todo identifies its resemblance to Amoghapasha Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva 127.
  • Demonic form: A hideous face appears beneath the shattered golden exterior; a similar demonic appearance briefly shows through before the exterior is broken 130 134.

Personality

Kenjaku’s central motivation is curiosity: she wants to see unprecedented phenomena and discover whether unfamiliar possibilities are genuinely interesting. That curiosity has no meaningful ethical restraint. She treats forced pregnancy, experimental children, sacrificed followers, and mass transformation as acceptable means of research 58 78 123 132.

Usually cautious and composed, she relies on accumulated experience, concealed objectives, and expendable pawns. She does not regard the Disaster Cursed Spirits as companions, despite cooperating with them. Her attempt to draw Yuji to her side likewise uses performed maternal affection rather than an established emotional bond 58 66 78 124 125.

Chinatsu repeatedly disrupts that composure. Memories of their first battle provoke cold sweat years later, and Kenjaku becomes convinced that Chinatsu possesses some extraordinary ability to anticipate her plans. She responds by improvising increasingly dangerous measures—even accepting the possible loss of her own consciousness if her ultimate experiment succeeds 78 90 123 124 134.

Abilities & Skills

Brain-Swapping and Soul Seizure

Kenjaku’s innate technique allows her to transplant her brain, take over another person’s body, and use that body’s cursed technique 53 57 61.

  • Enables survival across more than a thousand years through successive hosts 88.
  • Grants access to Kaori’s Anti-Gravity System 57 123.
  • Always leaves a horizontal surgical scar, making every new host potentially identifiable 61 125.
  • Prolonged body-swapping blurs the nature of her existence, allowing her to consider herself a substitute for Tengen in the final ritual 123.

Anti-Gravity System and Gravity Manipulation

The Anti-Gravity System belongs to Kenjaku’s host rather than her original body-swapping technique. Its reversal produces intensified gravity 57.

  • Anti-gravity: Lifts nearby sorcerers into the air 123.
  • Gravity reversal: Slams airborne targets into the ground or pins opponents beneath overwhelming pressure 123 125 126.
  • Terrain disruption: Breaks the ground under Chinatsu, throwing off her aim and diverting Red even when Limitless Defense protects her body 57.
  • Counter-surveillance: Crushes Mei Mei’s crow downward into a passing car 66.
  • Limit: Yuji’s specially engineered body withstands enough pressure for him to keep advancing, although maximum output causes severe pain and injury 125 127.

Domain Expansion: Womb Profusion

Womb Profusion is an open domain whose guaranteed-hit effect threatens to bypass Chinatsu’s Limitless Defense 57 59.

  • Rapidly erodes Chinatsu’s Simple Domain 57 58.
  • Attacks the outer shell of Chinatsu’s closed domain during their domain clash 59.
  • Collapses after Chinatsu’s Black Flash leaves Kenjaku too injured to maintain it 59.
  • Its precise effect remains unknown to Chinatsu because she counters it first with Simple Domain and then with her own domain 62.
  • Forming its hand seal takes longer than Todo’s clap, complicating deployment against Boogie Woogie and coordinated attackers 126.

Reverse Cursed Technique and Reinforcement

Kenjaku can heal physical injuries and reinforce her body with cursed energy 58 59.

  • Uses full-body reinforcement like armor to withstand Chinatsu’s maximum-output Blue and Kashimo’s erupting electrical energy 58 101.
  • Can repair the broken arms inflicted by Chinatsu’s Black Flash, though healing does not make continuing that battle viable 59.
  • Her later Buddha body repairs cracks without the characteristic vapor associated with Reverse Cursed Technique 129.

Cursed-Object Creation and Vessel Research

Kenjaku’s research encompasses artificial vessels, hybrid beings, and objects that preserve sorcerers for future incarnation 78 101 170.

  • Creates the nine Death Painting Wombs through blood, cursed energy, and repeated experimentation 78 170.
  • Engineers Yuji as an artificial Sukuna vessel capable of suppressing its occupant’s consciousness 78.
  • Converts ancient sorcerers’ bodies and souls into cursed objects, later forcing hosts to swallow them to trigger incarnation 101.
  • Identifies less suitable potential vessels during her travels, allowing Sukuna’s revival after Yuji becomes unavailable 88 89.

Barrier Techniques and Surveillance

Kenjaku extends her Barrier Technique across Japan using improvised measures after abandoning the original Tengen-based scheme 123.

  • Uses nationwide chaos and negative emotions to accumulate energy overhead 123.
  • Establishes surveillance in multiple regions to monitor battles without leaving her position 123.
  • Places major threats around Tokyo and Kyoto while operating from remote Kagoshima 123.
  • Uses an infiltrated Jujutsu Society higher-up to summon Chinatsu into an ambush, accepting that the official will become an expendable pawn afterward 58 61.

Ultimate Form and Population Assimilation

After her ritual, Kenjaku’s body is formed from energy that has changed beyond ordinary cursed energy. Black threads connect her to a hundred million citizens and exchange information in both directions 127 130 133.

  • Technique access: Uses dormant innate techniques belonging to people who previously lacked the energy to awaken them 133.
  • Elemental attacks: Unleashes Ice Spikes, Fireball, Lightning Flash, and Wind Blade 133.
  • Limitless bypass: Her altered energy is not recognized by Limitless Defense’s cursed-energy-based protection 133.
  • Command ability: Uses a power resembling—but not identical to—Cursed Speech to compel Chinatsu and Satoru to approach and to disperse a tornado 130 134.
  • Assimilation: Transmits her body’s information to the linked population, intending to create an entirely new race 130.
  • Resistance: Cursed-energy attacks have only minimal effect on the altered energy structure. Even destroying her head does not break the threads 135.
  • Cost: The enormous influx of power progressively destabilizes and erases her original consciousness 134 135.
  • Defeat: Chinatsu’s time-stopping Maximum Technique, Calm, creates an opening for the Black Flash that severs the threads 136.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sukuna’s Fingers — Collects them over years, frequently exorcising their host cursed spirits before assigned sorcerers arrive. Ultimately revives Sukuna with sixteen fingers’ worth of power 68 78 89.
  • Incarnation cursed objects — Keeps objects associated with ancient sorcerers, including Kashimo and Yorozu, for use in her plans 101 117.
  • Hiten — Purchases Sukuna’s former mobility-enhancing cursed tool from a collector for one billion and supplies it to him 116 117.
  • Kamutoke — Fails to locate the original and instead plans to have Yorozu reproduce it through Construction and a strengthening binding vow 117.
  • Black Rope — Travels to South Africa seeking three or four ropes capable of disrupting jujutsu, but finds their village deserted. Chinatsu has already arranged the destruction of the ropes and the evacuation of their makers 54.
  • Stolen hat — Conceals her identifying scar during an escape from surveillance 66.
  • Navigation phone — Gives Kashimo a phone displaying directions to Jujutsu High, steering him toward Satoru 101.

Relationships

  • Chinatsu Gojo — Principal adversary. Thwarts Kenjaku’s preparations, defeats her initial assassination attempt, and ultimately severs her assimilation network 54 59 123 136.
  • Satoru Gojo — The second Six Eyes bearer obstructing her plans. Kenjaku directs Kashimo against him; he later joins Chinatsu in defeating her 66 101 134 136.
  • Yuji Itadori — Son born through Kaori’s possessed body and an engineered Sukuna vessel. Rejects her invitation to join her and attacks despite their family connection 78 124 125.
  • Kaori Itadori — Possessed host, Yuji’s biological mother, and the source of Kenjaku’s Anti-Gravity System 57 78 123.
  • Cursed Womb: Death Paintings — Experimental creations infused with Kenjaku’s blood and cursed energy. They are regarded as Yuji’s older brothers through their shared connection to Kenjaku, despite lacking direct blood ties to him 169 170.
  • Ryomen Sukuna — Essential but dangerous ally. Kenjaku needs his strength against the Gojo siblings while recognizing the risk of being exploited in return 66 89.
  • Uraume — Collaborator in Sukuna’s resurrection. Threatens Kenjaku over their agreement and reacts angrily to her warnings about modern sorcerers 82 89.
  • Jogo, Hanami, Dagon, and Mahito — Opportunistic allies whose strength Kenjaku seeks to use. None knows her true objective 66 78 98.
  • Hajime Kashimo — Ancient pact partner and exceptionally powerful pawn. Kenjaku promises him a future fight with Sukuna, then redirects him toward Satoru to buy time 101 123.
  • Tengen — Intended foundation and material for the original evolution experiment; ultimately replaced by Kenjaku herself 90 123.
  • Mei Mei — Tracks Kenjaku for Chinatsu through crow surveillance. Kenjaku detects and destroys a crow before concealing her scar 53 66.
  • Maki Zenin and Aoi Todo — Fight alongside Yuji against her. Their coordinated attacks and Todo’s rapid position swaps prevent Kenjaku from comfortably controlling the encounter 125 126.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Failed Preparations and First Confrontation

Mei Mei locates Kenjaku after years of searching, identifying her at an airport bound for South Africa. The attempted acquisition of Black Rope fails because Chinatsu has already removed the cursed tools and their makers 53 54.

Kenjaku then uses a false mission concerning a suspected special grade cursed spirit in Kagoshima to lure Chinatsu into an ambush. Womb Profusion nearly overwhelms Chinatsu’s Simple Domain, but Chinatsu awakens Mirror Flower, Water Moon, traps Kenjaku in false sequences of events, and lands a Black Flash that breaks her arms. Kenjaku escapes while Chinatsu’s technique burnout prevents teleportation pursuit 56 58 59 61.

Rebuilding and the Battle for Itadori

After recuperating, Kenjaku abandons the immediate attempt to eliminate one Six Eyes bearer and strengthens her side with cursed spirits and Sukuna’s Fingers. Eight years pass while she collects resources 66 68.

Her coalition sends Hanami to abduct Yuji and force him to consume Sukuna’s Fingers. Hanami’s failure places Kenjaku under pressure from Jogo and Uraume, while Yuji enters Jujutsu High’s protection. Kenjaku instead uses a less suitable vessel to revive Sukuna with sixteen fingers’ power 78 82 84 88 89.

Nationwide Chaos and the Improvised Ritual

Unable to obtain Tengen, Kenjaku turns to an unpredictable alternative. She revives ancient combatants, directs Kashimo toward Jujutsu High, supplies Sukuna with Hiten, and uses their battles to occupy the Gojo siblings while cursed energy accumulates across Japan 90 101 117 123.

Yuji, Maki, and Todo find her amid slain sorcerers in Kagoshima. Yuji rejects her appeal as his mother, and the trio’s coordinated assault forces her to act. Once the accumulated energy reaches a critical threshold, Kenjaku pins them down and begins her ritual. Yuji’s next punch shatters her already cracking host body as her soul and energy rise into the sky 124 125 126 127.

Final Battle and Aftermath

Kenjaku manifests in Buddha form and intervenes when the Gojo siblings threaten to overwhelm Sukuna. Her assimilation threads turn the confrontation into a race to prevent a hundred million people from being transformed 128 130.

After Sukuna’s defeat, the siblings concentrate on Kenjaku. Satoru breaks her golden face, exposing the demon beneath, but ordinary bodily destruction cannot end the assimilation. With the countdown at its final second, Chinatsu stops time through Calm and lands the decisive Black Flash, severing the network before Kenjaku disintegrates 133 134 135 136.

Kenjaku begins cursing Chinatsu during her collapse. The later aftermath identifies corruption of part of Chinatsu’s soul through Kenjaku’s schemes, forcing Chinatsu to impose a powerful binding vow to prevent that corrupted part from controlling her body 136 160.
