Background / History
Tatsumaki’s recollections include being confined in a laboratory and being rescued by Blast. She also remembers a time when Fubuki hated her. These memories briefly surface after she exhausts herself fighting the Ten-Tails 98.
As a professional hero, she becomes the Hero Association’s trump card, handling powerful monsters that other heroes struggle to defeat. The Association credits her with its highest attendance rate since she joined, and executives cite her accumulated contributions when debating whether Bai Ye should outrank her 99 130.
Her strength profoundly shapes Fubuki’s ambitions. Believing she cannot surpass Tatsumaki individually, Fubuki forms the Blizzard Group to challenge her sister through teamwork rather than personal power 40.
Appearance
Tatsumaki has a petite frame and a youthful face that repeatedly cause others to mistake her for a child 86 99 180.
- Hair: Curly and green 86.
- Clothing: A long black gown slit on four sides; she also wears heels 86 134.
- Height: Estimated at approximately 145–148 centimeters, rather than given as an official measurement. A later description places her around 148 centimeters in heels and roughly 145 centimeters or less without them 86 134.
- Psychic aura: A green glow appears around her body when she activates her powers 95 132.
- Typical posture: Frequently folds her arms and floats with her feet above the ground 86 130.
Personality
Tatsumaki is proud, blunt, and quick to anger, particularly when someone belittles her strength or treats her as a child. Comments about her age and figure are especially sensitive subjects. During her first encounter with Bai Ye, she dismisses his victories over Dragon-level opponents as insignificant; later, she readily acknowledges that he deserves to outrank her 86 131 134.
She actively seeks opponents strong enough to withstand her full power. That enthusiasm can undermine her judgment: against the Ten-Tails, she continues using exhausting attacks and refuses to retreat even when escape remains possible. Her determination persists during the meteorite sparring match, where she keeps resisting despite being unable to stop both falling objects alone 97 133.
Her concern for others is less openly expressed than her irritation. She delays entering the alien spaceship until protection for the heroes below is arranged, quietly thanks Bai Ye after he protects her, and warns him about Boros despite having just been rescued herself 103 105 107.
With Bai Ye, she often disguises affection as reluctance or indignation. She denies dating him before they become a couple, objects to Mizuki’s familiar way of addressing him, and insists that accepting his confession means only “reluctantly” giving him a chance 144 179 180.
Abilities & Skills
Psychokinesis
Tatsumaki is universally recognized as the strongest esper. Her psychic power exceeds Geryuganshoop’s in raw strength, although his projectile techniques are more refined 98 105.
- Object manipulation: Moves people, rubble, luggage, and dinnerware without physical contact 96 132 180.
- Crushing attacks: Raises two thousand-meter rock walls to compress the Ten-Tails 97.
- Twisting attacks: Distorts the surrounding air to wring the Ten-Tails’ body out of shape. The technique badly deforms it but fails to overcome its vitality 97.
- Meteorite control: Pulls a meteorite a few dozen meters across down from space. The narration cautions that this does not establish an ability to draw down much larger distant objects 97.
- Large-scale restraint: Stops Bai Ye’s first meteorite, over a thousand meters across, in midair. When a second, three-to-four-kilometer meteorite strikes it, she can only slow their combined descent until Bai Ye assists 132 133.
Air, Terrain, and Water Manipulation
Her psychokinesis produces attacks resembling natural disasters 96 132.
- Creates tornadoes strong enough to tear apart rocks, trees, and other surrounding objects 132.
- Fires a concentrated, spinning air projectile that pulverizes a boulder behind Bai Ye 132.
- Splits and raises the ground into towering rock walls 97 132.
- Draws seawater from a distant location to form a tsunami over a hundred meters high 132.
- Counters the Ten-Tails’ Heaven and Earth Change with her own large-scale environmental manipulation 96 97.
Psychic Barriers
Tatsumaki surrounds herself with protective energy barriers 96 107.
- Blocks lightning and the blast force of an enormous Tailed Beast Bomb 96 97.
- Escapes a beam-like Tailed Beast Bomb before it finishes breaking her barrier 97.
- Geryuganshoop’s near-light-speed stones pierce her barrier; Bai Ye makes her intangible before they hit her 105.
- Released-power Boros shatters her defenses through repeated physical strikes 107.
- Barrier maintenance becomes difficult as her stamina runs out 98.
Flight
- Uses psychokinesis for sustained flight, hovering, and high-speed aerial movement 95 99 132.
- Dodges repeated Tailed Beast Bombs while airborne 97.
- Cannot remain aloft after completely exhausting her stamina 98 133.
Combat Limits
- Limited physical strength: Without psychic support, her physical capabilities are approximately those of an ordinary person. Her punches and bites cannot harm Bai Ye 98 117 134.
- Finite stamina: Repeated maximum-output attacks leave her defenseless against the Ten-Tails despite her immense psychic strength 97 98.
- Projectile technique: Unlike Geryuganshoop, she cannot eliminate air friction to launch stones at nearly light speed; attempting comparable acceleration would vaporize them 105.
- Bai Ye’s durability: Her strongest environmental attacks cannot injure his Six Paths body during their spar 132.
- Low alcohol tolerance: Half a glass of draft beer makes her tipsy. Stronger liquor nearly causes her psychokinesis to go out of control 145.
Instruction
- Co-teaches twelve promising newcomers alongside Bai Ye 177.
- Helps select monsters strong enough to challenge the trainees without simply overwhelming them 182.
- Inspires Gear Crystal to improve his psychic control after he witnesses her power 182.
Relationships
- Bai Ye / Kamui — Initially dismisses him as an unimpressive newcomer. His strength and repeated rescues earn her respect; she later asks him to use her personal name, accepts his confession, and moves in with him 86 98 107 130 180.
- Fubuki / Hellish Blizzard — Her younger sister, whose ambitions are driven by the desire to surpass her. Tatsumaki questions Fubuki’s feelings for Bai Ye but does not become angry over their shared interest, regarding Fubuki as her beloved sister 40 187.
- Blast — Rescued her from laboratory confinement. Before encountering Bai Ye’s full strength, she regarded Blast as the only person stronger than herself 98 131.
- Genos — Frequently clashes with him over his defense of Bai Ye and his insulting comments. His provocation at the hot springs prompts her to throw objects into the men’s bath 86 144.
- Saitama — Repeatedly mistakes or treats her as a child, provoking arguments about her height and appearance 99 100 180.
- Psykos — A rival for Bai Ye’s affection. Tatsumaki pushes her away with psychokinesis after Psykos kisses him, then kisses him herself 186.
- Mizuki Choujou — A trainee whose closeness to Bai Ye makes Tatsumaki visibly displeased. Mizuki identifies her reaction as possible jealousy 177 179.
- Sitch — Coordinates her emergency assignments, ranking discussions, and teaching appointment 98 130 177.
