Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Established Stand user | 588 591 | Already possessed The Fool and ruled New York’s street dogs. His limited combat experience and lack of training left him unable to defeat Avdol. |
| Potential unlocked | 591 | Josen’s Potential Unlocking Technique increased his strength, speed, toughness, mental strength, and other attributes more than tenfold. His body briefly became muscular before returning to its normal appearance. |
| Intensive sand-control training | 592 | Two days of instruction, Telepathic Transmission, Potential Unlocking, and Normal Healing brought his physical condition to an unprecedented peak. Repeated healing repaired physical damage but did not prevent accumulating mental fatigue. |
| Sustained flight and advanced combat techniques | 593 594 595 | Demonstrated Sandstorm, Sand Shuriken, Hand of Sand, and Sand Body Flicker against Pet Shop. Improved control over surrounding air currents replaced his former wind-dependent gliding with sustained flight. |
| Potential Seed enhancement confirmed | 633 | Described as strengthened by Josen’s training and a Potential Seed; the seed’s application is not shown in the supplied account. Could defeat a dozen muscular men without using his Stand. |
| S-Class-equivalent combat assessment | 639 640 641 | Briefly suppressed two Demon-level Monsters. The narration states that he met the Hero Association’s S-Class criteria, but he was not identified as a registered S-Class Hero. |
| Gravity-training proficiency | 660 | Led Heroes of multiple classes during Tatsumaki’s gravity-field running drills. His advantage came from familiarity with Josen’s training method, not proof that his raw physical strength exceeded every trainee’s. |
Background / History
New York and recruitment
Iggy used The Fool and his intelligence to become king of New York’s street dogs. Avdol eventually helped the SPW Foundation capture him with Magician’s Red. Although the Foundation treated him well, his disruptive behavior caused constant trouble at its New York branch; one employee who tried petting him was still hospitalized when the incident was recalled 588.
Joseph and Avdol summoned him to Egypt as reinforcement for the Stardust Crusaders. He arrived by SPW helicopter and immediately began tormenting Mr. Popo, biting his gelled hair and releasing foul-smelling gas in his face. His willingness to let Josen pet him astonished the others 588.
Training to change his fate
Outside Cairo, Josen confronted Iggy about pretending to be an ordinary dog incapable of helping humans. He showed Iggy a vision of a possible future in which he sacrificed himself to save Polnareff, arguing that Iggy would never willingly abandon an innocent person or a companion in danger. A demonstration of Josen’s Sand Rasengan then persuaded Iggy to accept his instruction 590.
Josen unlocked Iggy’s potential and taught him advanced sand-control techniques. During one lesson, Iggy angrily challenged him for apparently killing desert animals with a massive sand attack. The destruction proved to be an illusion, leaving the animals unharmed—and Iggy facing punishment for barking at his teacher 591.
The training continued through another night, combining physical exertion, healing, and mentally transmitted techniques. Despite his exhaustion and resentment of Josen’s methods, Iggy insisted that the coming battle with Pet Shop was his own fight 592.
Defeating Pet Shop
Approaching DIO’s mansion, Iggy encountered two pit bulls and a young boy threatened by Pet Shop. He intercepted the falcon’s ice spikes with Sandstorm, then directed the dogs to carry the boy to safety 593 594.
His enhanced speed and flight allowed him to evade Pet Shop’s homing ice barrage and spreading frost. After crushing the falcon with Hand of Sand, Iggy initially walked away rather than kill a helpless opponent. Pet Shop renewed the attack, prompting Iggy to use Sand Body Flicker, strike from behind, and trap both the falcon and Horus within a rising sand waterfall 594 595.
Iggy killed Pet Shop and helped locate DIO’s castle. Joseph replayed the battle through Spirit Photography, allowing the Crusaders to witness his improved abilities 596 597.
Assault on DIO
Inside the mansion, Iggy tripped the vampire known as Dumbass with sand. The vampire apparently killed him in retaliation, but the body was a Sand Clone. Iggy then immobilized him with Sand Binding Coffin before Josen and F-kid transformed the vampire into conscious sandstone 606 607.
For the confrontation with DIO, Josen paired Iggy with Mr. Popo: Iggy supplied flight and sand-made rapiers, while Mr. Popo and Silver Chariot provided precise thrown attacks. When DIO stopped time to ambush them, Iggy’s Sand Waterfall Funeral had already filled the sky with sand, concealing the pair and forcing DIO to search through it 610 613 614.
Life in New Z City
After the conflict, Iggy willingly chose to leave with Josen. F-kid carried him through Josen’s black hole portal at the airport. The journey between worlds left him dizzy, requiring Normal Healing after their arrival in New Z City 631 632 633.
Josen introduced him as the household’s newest member and assured him that he would not have to sleep in the doghouse outside the apartment. Iggy met Genos, Saitama, and Rover, quickly discovering that the seemingly ordinary residents around him were far stronger than he expected 635 637 638.
Sent out with Rover to fight Monsters, Iggy buried the Rampaging Bear King and Anaconda King beneath a vast sandfall. Both began breaking free before he could follow up, and Rover destroyed them with Scorching Cannon. The dogs subsequently became friendly, with Iggy riding Rover’s head and providing flight 638 639 640.
The encounter convinced Iggy that he needed to become stronger. He later joined Tatsumaki’s gravity-field drills, where his previous training let him run ahead of the struggling Heroes 641 660.
Appearance
- Build: A small Boston terrier, approximately the length of an adult’s forearm 588 660.
- Coloration: Black-and-white fur 588.
- Distinguishing features: Large, fanlike ears and unusually humanlike expressions, including sly grins, contemptuous looks, and dead-fish stares 588 590 595 629.
- After enhancement: Retains his small, ordinary-looking body despite his greatly increased physical abilities 591.
Personality
Iggy is proud, independent, and resistant to human authority. Before training, his ideal life was to find a female dog and live peacefully rather than seek difficult battles. He often hides his intelligence behind the claim that he is merely an ordinary stray with nothing to offer humans 590 591.
His defiance is selective. He gleefully bullies Mr. Popo but recognizes people he cannot afford to provoke, becoming cooperative around Josen and Saitama. He similarly abandons his condescending attitude toward Rover after witnessing Scorching Cannon 588 638 640.
Beneath his abrasive behavior, Iggy is protective of innocents and capable of attachment. He protests the apparent slaughter of desert animals, saves a boy and two dogs from Pet Shop, and initially spares the defeated falcon. Josen’s vision also forces him to acknowledge that he would probably risk his life for a companion despite his complaints 590 591 593 595.
His pride eventually becomes motivation to train. After seeing the power of Z City’s Monsters and residents, he rejects remaining comparatively weak and declares that he will not be inferior to anyone 641.
Abilities & Skills
The Fool
The Fool is Iggy’s sand-controlling Stand. Its manifested form is a four-legged beast wearing a mechanical mask 590 595.
- Creates and shapes sand into storms, weapons, restraints, clones, and flying platforms 593 594 607 610.
- Can produce enough sand to substantially transform a battlefield 639 640.
- Large-scale attacks consume substantial psychic power and can delay his next move 640.
- His powers are described as psychic powers after his arrival in the One-Punch Man world; Tatsumaki notices that his psychic presence resembles a human’s 638 647.
Sand Techniques
| Technique | Application | Demonstrated limits or results |
|---|---|---|
| Sandstorm | Creates a grit-filled cyclone that intercepts attacks. | Crushed Pet Shop’s ice spikes before they reached a boy and two dogs 593. |
| Sand Shuriken | Condenses sand into sharp, rapidly spinning projectiles. | Pet Shop evaded the initial volley 594. |
| Hand of Sand | Forms an enormous hand to strike and pin an opponent. | Slammed Pet Shop into the ground and inflicted severe injuries 594 595. |
| Sand Body Flicker | Uses a deceptive sand substitute while Iggy repositions. | Fooled Pet Shop into believing he had killed Iggy, enabling a rear attack 595. |
| Sand Clone | Produces a decoy body. | The apparent corpse left by Dumbass’s attack was a clone, not Iggy 606 607. |
| Sand Binding Coffin | Immobilizes a target and fills its body with sand. | Restrained Dumbass but did not kill the vampire 607. |
| Quicksand Waterfall Flow | Releases an enormous mass of sand to bury and restrict enemies. | Buried two Demon-level Monsters, but both began escaping before Iggy could follow up 639 640. |
| Sand Waterfall Funeral | Deploys a vast volume of sand across the battlefield. | Concealed Iggy and Mr. Popo from DIO during stopped time 613 614. |
| Sand-made rapiers | Shapes weapons for Silver Chariot’s ranged attacks. | Enabled Josen’s proposed aerial partnership with Mr. Popo 610. |
Flight
- Originally could only glide with the wind and eventually had to land 594.
- After training, actively influences surrounding air currents to sustain flight on flowing sand 594.
- Uses airborne movement to avoid ground-based hazards, including Pet Shop’s spreading frost 594.
- Can take Rover flying while riding on his head 640 641.
Enhanced Physical Abilities
- Dodges Pet Shop’s homing ice barrage without injury 594.
- Possesses enough strength to overpower a muscular man standing 195 centimeters tall 595.
- Can defeat a dozen muscular men without relying on The Fool 633.
- Remains vulnerable to the aftereffects of interworld travel despite these enhancements 633.
Intelligence and Communication
- Used his intelligence alongside The Fool to rule New York’s street dogs 588.
- Communicates mentally with Josen through links between Stand users 590.
- Gives understandable instructions to other dogs, including directing the pit bulls’ rescue of their young master 594.
- Recognizes practical limits to scent tracking: he cannot identify DIO’s scent without first knowing what it smells like 605.
Relationships
- Josen — Trainer and eventual caretaker. Gives Iggy the power to resist his foreseen fate, takes him home with his consent, and welcomes him into the family. Iggy respects his strength while privately resenting his harsh training and teasing 590 591 631 635 647.
- Mr. Popo / Polnareff — Favorite target of hair-chewing and flatulence. Their antagonistic companionship develops into an aerial combat partnership; the fate Josen shows Iggy includes sacrificing himself to save Polnareff 588 590 610.
- Avdol — Defeated Iggy and helped the SPW Foundation capture him. Later participates in bringing him to Egypt 588 591.
- Joseph Joestar — Helps summon Iggy as reinforcement and uses Spirit Photography to show the Crusaders his battle with Pet Shop 588 596.
- Pet Shop — Enemy defeated at DIO’s mansion. Iggy confronts him knowing that their foreseen battle would otherwise cost him a leg 592 593 595 597.
- Rover — Initially dismissed as an inferior, flightless dog. After witnessing Rover’s overwhelming firepower, Iggy becomes his companion and flying partner 639 640 641.
- Saitama — Household companion whose strength Iggy instinctively recognizes. Iggy submits to his petting rather than provoke him 637 638.
- Genos — Welcomes Iggy into the household. Iggy is impressed by his speed, while Genos privately worries that another dog will lower his standing at home 635.
- King — Frightens Iggy merely by looking at him; Josen uses psychic power to calm Iggy and introduces King as a friend 646.
- Tatsumaki — Recognizes his unusual psychic power and later supervises his gravity training. She also regards his place in Josen’s affections with jealousy 647 660.
