Background / History

Destruction of his hometown

At fifteen, Genos survived an attack by an unidentified Mad Cyborg that destroyed his hometown and killed his family. Dr. Kuseno encountered him near death and rebuilt him as a cyborg. Genos subsequently traveled between cities, searching for the attacker and fighting threats as a self-appointed defender of justice 168.

His determination to prevent another such tragedy extended beyond revenge. Even while resenting the state of the world, he pursued potential disasters outside populated areas rather than waiting for them to reach civilians 169.

Becoming Saitama’s disciple

After arriving in M City, Genos followed a powerful energy reading to Saitama’s battle with the Asura Minotaur. His calculations showed that their ordinary exchanges exceeded the destructive power of his own self-detonation. He began taking notes and resolved to acquire powers beyond his existing machinery 169.

Genos initially asked Josen, Saitama, and King to accept him as their disciple. Josen redirected him toward Saitama and suggested offering tuition, lodging, and food expenses to address Saitama’s financial concerns. Genos joined the household and soon assumed its domestic chores 172 173 174 178.

An early confrontation with the Asura Crocodile Monster exposed his limitations: the monster blew his cannon fire back at him and badly damaged his head. Genos nevertheless insisted that his replaceable components allowed him to continue fighting 176.

Martial-arts training and hero work

Josen identified two avenues for improvement: hardware upgrades and expansion of Genos’s combat database. He arranged for Genos to study under Bang, while Saitama helped him adapt the new techniques through sparring. Genos’s progress culminated in victory at the Disciple Cup 191 197 210 211.

Genos later attended the Hero Certification Exam alongside Saitama and began professional hero work under the name Demon Cyborg. In one recorded operation, he drove a monster away from civilians while Saitama handled rescues 287 291 301.

He also took responsibility for study and logistics in Josen’s hero-training project, volunteering to prepare the class’s food. During the program, he served as class monitor and continued studying Bang’s meditation methods 333 424.

Elder Centipede and the Monster Association

Against Elder Centipede, Genos deployed increasingly powerful external artillery, but the monster regenerated from his strongest shot. Discouraged by the continuing gap between himself and Saitama, he asked what he lacked; Saitama answered that he needed more strength 433 434 436.

Genos joined the subsequent Monster Association assault with Saitama’s permission. Paired with King, he cleared numerous lesser monsters and nearly ten Demon-level opponents before reaching the central area 441 462 466.

Their advance ended when Gyoro Gyoro redirected a gravitational attack toward him, destroying much of his torso. His protected core remained stable, and Josen transported him to Dr. Kuseno’s laboratory 477 479.

Restoration and growing responsibility

Josen had already supplied Dr. Kuseno with biological Android technology, hoping to end Genos’s habit of treating his body as expendable. When the doctor hesitated over the risks of a brain transplant, Josen performed the transfer himself. Genos regained a heartbeat, genuine bodily sensations, and power far beyond his former mechanical body 290 479 480 481.

After testing his strength with Josen, Genos returned to battle in a suppressing nanosuit. He overwhelmed Golden Sperm in close combat and later battered Platinum Sperm with a ki-infused throw 489 491 492 497.

A later spar with Saitama nearly endangered all of Z City. Recognizing that his new power could recreate the kind of tragedy he had survived, Genos withdrew to reflect and returned noticeably more composed 525 526 527 529.

Josen eventually sent him back to Bang’s dojo in a heavily suppressing martial-arts uniform. Though reluctant to leave Saitama, Genos accepted the journey as an opportunity to broaden his training 659 660.

Appearance

  • Hair and face: Short blond hair, thick eyebrows, large eyes, and sharply defined, youthful features 168.
  • Mechanical body: Full-body metallic armor, electronic eyes, and thrusters in his soles and back. His limbs incorporated biological materials resembling muscles and Achilles tendons 168 198.
  • Android body: A living, muscular human appearance with expressive eyes and the ability to blush. Saitama immediately noticed the changed appearance of his exposed skin after the transfer 480 482 489.
  • Personal clothing: Favors practical styles; Josen dressed him in a white T-shirt, dark blue hooded vest, studded belt, light blue jeans, and black sneakers 482.
  • Battle armor: His Type Three nanosuit forms a full-coverage black metal suit 489.

Personality

Genos is earnest, meticulous, hardworking, and consistently polite toward those he respects. His reserved expression conceals a tendency to explain subjects at excessive length; Saitama identifies him as a serious chatterbox shortly after meeting him 172 195 290.

His devotion to Saitama frequently becomes overinterpretation. He records ordinary remarks as profound instruction, writes extensive reflections on familiar lessons, and once watches Saitama’s sleeping habits so persistently that his teacher becomes sleep-deprived. Josen’s instruction to buy dog food likewise becomes, in Genos’s mind, advice about concentrating on training 178 416 535.

Despite limited social experience, Genos is sensitive to others’ emotions. He recognizes Dr. Kuseno’s affection and reacts fiercely to malicious letters targeting Saitama, secretly recording the senders’ addresses with the intention of confronting them 303 481.

In battle, his courage often becomes recklessness. He minimizes severe damage, blames defeats on carelessness, and remains willing to sacrifice himself. His Android upgrade initially releases more of his combative temperament, but nearly endangering Z City gives him a stronger appreciation of restraint and responsibility 176 290 477 510 527.

Abilities & Skills

Incineration Cannon

Genos’s signature attack began as palm-mounted plasma weaponry and remained central to his fighting style after he gained an Android body 176 492.

  • Standard fire: Produces plasma hot enough to melt steel; adjustable output supports both concentrated attacks and wide-area clearance 176 192 297.
  • Spiral-Accelerated Incineration Cannon: Uses an external barrel to concentrate a spiraling blast. The assembly can warp under its own heat 433.
  • Super Spiral Rail Acceleration Incineration Cannon: Fires a magnetically accelerated plasma projectile from an external cannon platform. Its mechanical configuration permitted only one shot before dangerous overheating 434.
  • ProMax Ultimate Incineration Cannon: An Android-era ki attack with Solar System-threatening energy output 482.
  • Super-Power Phalanx Incineration Cannon: Releases dense energy projectiles across a broad area, used during his post-upgrade spar with Saitama 525 526.

Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist

Genos learned the art’s essential principles under Bang and adapted them to his own combination of strikes and cannon fire 210 481.

  • His learning chip and personal comprehension let him develop usable combinations exceptionally quickly 197 210.
  • His original mechanical body could reproduce techniques but could not generate the art’s internal Flowing Water Energy 210 481.
  • Borrowing and redirecting force were initially among his weakest applications 210.
  • Bang recommended meditation to improve mental control where physical muscle training could not strengthen his mechanical body 424.
  • After the Android transfer, Josen again recommended this meditation method to help him control his greatly increased power 483.

Ki Manipulation and Flight

His biological Android body supports ki use through its Perpetual Energy Reactor 481 482.

  • Flight Technique: Counters gravity with ki, replacing his former reliance on mechanical thrusters; he adapted after two attempts 481.
  • Power-up technique: Learned from Josen’s Saiyan demonstration. Josen explicitly noted that Genos’s hair would not change color 482.
  • Energy sensing: Recognized a powerful monster’s aura after his upgrade 510.
  • Environmental limit: He experienced cold and difficulty breathing in space until Josen supplied a protective biological force field and breathable air 482.

Close-Quarters Combat

  • Machine Gun Blows: A rapid punching barrage that broke Golden Sperm’s arms during their exchange 491.
  • Hulk Heaven-and-Earth Throw: Seized Platinum Sperm by an antenna, stunned him with ki, and repeatedly slammed him into the ground 497.
  • Combined attacks: Integrates thruster-assisted movement, flowing-water techniques, grappling, and point-blank cannon fire 297 466.

Cyborg Sensors and Computing

These functions are documented for his former mechanical body.

  • Detected high-energy reactions from dozens of kilometers away 169.
  • Received wide-area audio and video signals through his scouter 172.
  • Analyzed opponents, simulated combat outcomes, and optimized learned techniques through onboard processors 176 424.
  • Used encrypted communications, visual tracking, laboratory access transmissions, and an automatic emergency distress signal 287 303 478 479.
  • Could rest his brain without sleeping, although his machinery still required maintenance 178 312.

Self-Destruction

His mechanical core could release its energy in a blast comparable to tactical nuclear bombardment 434.

  • Treated as a last resort rather than a routine attack.
  • Had not actually been used by the Elder Centipede battle.
  • Severe energy expenditure and continued combat while overheated increased the danger of an uncontrolled core detonation 434.

Cooking and Household Work

  • Handles cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, and rapid unloading of supplies 178 231.
  • Tailors meals to household preferences, including Chinese breakfasts for Josen 535.
  • Requested a Dispersal Cannon, an air-compression modification of his Incineration Cannon, specifically to remove lingering hot-pot smells 225.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Former cyborg chassis — Dr. Kuseno’s replaceable mechanical body, powered by a miniature nuclear energy core 168 176 434.
  • Space-Folding Firepower System — Expanded his onboard firepower without compromising mobility 312 322.
  • Hoi-Poi Capsules — Stored deployable cannon barrels and large external artillery components 433 434.
  • Type Three nano battlesuit — Customizable nano-vibranium armor enchanted by Josen with a Psychic Power Field. It suppresses Genos to ordinary S-Class strength until he can safely control his full output 479 482 489.
  • Force Field Suppressor uniform — Supplied for his return to Bang’s dojo. It left him with less than one percent of his planet-destroying strength, suppressed him below God-level disaster, and made even breathing laborious 659.
  • Notebook and pen — Regularly used to record combat observations, Saitama’s remarks, and supposed lessons hidden in everyday conversation 169 178 441.
  • Laboratory identification card — A metal pass bearing a chibi portrait of Genos; he lent it to Josen for access to Dr. Kuseno’s institute 287 289.

Relationships

  • Saitama — Master and housemate. Genos seeks to equal his strength and treats his remarks as invaluable instruction; Saitama protects him but privately feels that Genos’s major upgrades owe little to his teaching 174 299 416 659.
  • Josen — Mentor, housemate, and benefactor. Arranges training, supplies upgrade technology, restores Genos to a biological body, and helps restrain his power. Genos places nearly as much trust in him as in Saitama 191 290 480 489.
  • Dr. Kuseno — Rescuer, engineer, and surrogate family. Regards Genos as a grandson and hopes he can abandon revenge for a peaceful life 168 290 479.
  • Bang — Martial-arts instructor. Teaches him Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist and meditation, later receiving him for another period of training 197 424 659 660.
  • King — Trusted combat partner. His magnetic powers complement Genos’s machinery, improve energy efficiency, and compensate for openings caused by Genos’s carelessness 462 466 477.
  • Garou — Martial-arts rival. Narrowly lost to Genos in the Disciple Cup; the two exchanged hostile looks when reunited at the training program 211 424.
  • Mad Cyborg — Target of revenge for destroying Genos’s hometown and killing his family 168.
  • Rover and Iggy — Household dogs. Genos helps care for them but worries that their arrival lowers his standing in the household even further 535 635 659.
