History
Warrior of the Land of Light
Belial fought back-to-back with Ken, the future Father of Ultra, during the Ultra Great War. The deaths of their comrades hardened him: he executed surrendered invaders despite Ken’s objections, arguing that enemies threatening the Land of Light deserved no mercy 143.
When Alien Empera attacked, Belial shielded Ken from a sword strike and suffered most of the damage. Unable to stop the destruction himself, he became desperate for greater power. He watched Ken receive the Ultimate Blade from Marie and awaken the strength needed to defeat Empera 143.
Obsession, Exile, and Corruption
After the war, the newly founded Space Garrison appointed Ken captain and Belial deputy captain. Belial resented being placed beneath Ken and interpreted Marie’s love for Ken as further evidence of his own inadequacy. His desire to defend the Land of Light gradually became an obsession with surpassing his former comrade 144.
Belial touched the Plasma Spark Core, but it rejected and injured him. He resisted arrest and wounded several young warriors before being subdued. His exile to a nearby planet was intended to give him time to recover his judgment, with the possibility of redemption through service 144.
That opportunity ended when Reiblood’s soul forcibly entered his body. Belial resisted unsuccessfully, became corrupted, and launched a campaign of revenge using the Ultimate Battle Nizer. Ultraman King eventually sealed him in the Space Prison for tens of thousands of years 144.
Wars Against Zero and the Multiverse
Belial later stole the Land of Light’s Plasma Spark Tower. Zero recovered it, earned its recognition, and defeated him. In another confrontation recalled through Shinji’s dream, Zero received Noa’s light and defeated Arch Belial with the Paraghi Shield 24 96.
After Shining Zero’s Shining Star Drive revived him, Belial rebuilt the Ginga Empire under the Dark Five Heavenly Kings. He recruited evil aliens and assembled tens of millions of Darklops Zeros and Legionoids. The resulting Super Universe Final War spread across multiple universes, lasting nearly a century in some of them 144.
Driven into the Frontier Universe, Belial lost his Dark Armor to the New Generation Ultramen but escaped by releasing monsters to delay them. He then ambushed Zero, severely injuring him and damaging the Paraghi Shield. Facing defeat, Belial activated the Super-Dimensional Bomb, destroying Earth and nearly tearing the universe apart. Ultraman King dispersed his body throughout the universe to restore it 144.
Defeat by Geed
Belial’s subordinate Fukuide K stole Hikari’s Ultra Capsules and Geed Riser to advance his plans. Riku Asakura became Ultraman Geed, but refused to submit to the father who regarded him as a tool 145.
In their final battle, Zero prevented Atrocious Belial from absorbing more of Ultraman King’s energy. Empowered by King, Geed manifested five forms whose combined attacks stripped away Belial’s Atrocious form. Geed carried him into subspace, where Riku entered his soul and embraced him after witnessing his anger and sorrow. Riku’s purification expelled Reiblood’s soul 145.
Geed ultimately destroyed Belial. Zero initially told Shinji that both Belial’s body and soul had vanished 40.
Return and Renunciation of Revenge
During Sahaquiel’s mental assault, Belial trapped Zero in an illusion of destroying the Land of Light. He emerged as Atrocious Belial after secretly absorbing energy from the Atrocious Belial Capsule. Zero later suspected that the capsule and the Angel’s mental attack had awakened a remnant of Belial’s soul 141 142 179.
A beam clash with Shining Zero transported them and Shinji into a strange space that displayed Belial’s memories. Watching Geed’s struggle changed his perspective on both Riku and Fukuide K. Exhausted by repeated deaths, revivals, and revenge, he finally declared that he no longer wanted to continue 142 145 146.
Shining Zero’s attack purified his soul. As White Belial, he settled inside the Kaiser Belial Capsules and offered his power for Shinji’s sake. This time, Shinji could insert the Atrocious Belial Capsule without resistance, allowing Zero to use Dark Radiant Sky Claw without going berserk 146.
Rescue of Zero
White Belial later drove away a mysterious voice trying to convince Shinji that his bond with Zero was false and his future hopeless. He warned Shinji that an impostor Zero was carrying out a conspiracy outside 215.
After Zero’s defeat, Belial offered to help rescue him in exchange for enough energy to transform. Riku agreed to supervise him, while the Ultra Brothers required him to face a fair trial afterward. Privately, Belial told Shinji and Asuka that transforming again would leave him permanently trapped in the capsule. He concealed this consequence, especially from Riku, because he wanted to atone for his crimes 267 268.
Using Hikari’s New Beta Capsule, Shinji transformed with White Belial. Belial fought alongside Ultimate Force Zero, destroyed three Mass Production Models, and entered Zero’s Mindscape through his Color Timer 270 271 272.
Inside, he confronted the corrupted Dark Zero while deliberately limiting attacks that might seriously harm him. Shinji’s knowledge of Zero’s habits helped Belial disarm and throw his opponent, but their final beam struggle exhausted the energy supplied by the Ultra Brothers 277 278 279.
Shinji’s refusal to abandon Zero rekindled Belial’s protective resolve. The Plasma Spark Tower finally recognized him, transforming him into Plasma Belial. He purified Dark Zero, erased the Angel Wall, cleansed the Mindscape, and pulled Zero to his feet 279.
Final Farewells
As his Plasma form dissolved, Belial thanked Zero for the opportunity to atone. He asked Zero to tell Ken that the friend who had once sworn to protect the Land of Light had returned, and expressed his wish to fight beside Ken again and speak honestly with his son 280.
Shinji later returned Belial’s capsule to Riku. White Belial explained that he could not return and intended to fade away. He apologized for leaving Riku alone, praised him as a worthy warrior, and embraced him before vanishing. Riku accepted his choice and resolved to honor the name Geed 298.
When Zero reported his fate, Father of Ultra mourned the loss of his closest friend. He had hoped Belial’s return to the light would give them a chance to meet and reconcile in person 300.
Appearance
- Corrupted Belial: A black-and-red Ultraman whose presence alone intimidates NERV’s leadership 51.
- Atrocious Belial: A vicious face, irregular red eye lamps, a silver-and-black torso covered in armor and bony plating, and a purple Color Timer. His eyes turn yellow as his rage subsides 142 146.
- White Belial: His restored silver-and-red Ultra Warrior body has bright white eyes. After regaining physical form, he notes that his back is no longer hunched and his body feels light and free 215 268 271 277.
- Plasma Belial: Sacred gold-and-silver markings and a red-and-white cape bearing eight Blue Sapphires, which resonate during purification 279.
Personality
Belial’s original courage coexisted with an increasingly ruthless view of warfare. He risked his life to shield Ken, yet killed surrendering enemies because he distrusted their intentions. His early hunger for power came from helplessness at the deaths of his comrades before becoming entangled with jealousy and wounded pride 143 144.
As a conqueror, he treated others as instruments and repeatedly chose revenge after resurrection. Revisiting his memories forced him to acknowledge Geed’s independence and Fukuide K’s devotion. Riku’s understanding, rather than victory alone, helped break his attachment to revenge 145 146.
White Belial retains his abrasive speech, arrogance, and enjoyment of combat. His claims of selfish motives conceal genuine concern: he protects Shinji, reassures him about Zero, and restrains himself while fighting Dark Zero. Shinji explicitly recognizes the change beneath his hostile manner 215 268 273 277.
After recovering his Ultra Warrior’s heart, Belial is tormented by guilt toward the Land of Light, Ken, his former comrades, and especially Riku. His final tenderness toward his son contrasts with his earlier treatment of Geed as a tool 267 298.
Abilities & Skills
Combat Expertise
- Draws on tens of thousands of years of combat experience, using precise counters, deceptive openings, throws, kicks, and claw attacks 272 278.
- Holds off three Mass Production Models simultaneously; although two briefly overpower him in raw strength, he outmaneuvers them through experience 272.
- Adapts immediately to Shinji’s tactical instructions during the fight with Dark Zero 278.
- Deliberately avoids the Battle Nizer’s ranged attacks and uses the backs of his claws when trying not to injure Zero 277 278.
Energy Attacks and Defense
- Destrudium Ray: His signature destructive beam, used before his corruption and again against Dark Zero 143 278 279.
- Atrocious Burst: A purple beam wrapped in black-and-red lightning, powerful enough to clash with Shining Zero’s Shining Cluster Beam 142.
- Red lightning: Channels electrical energy through his hands and claws for close-range attacks 142 272.
- Energy shield: Forms a diamond-shaped shield across a Kaiser Claw to block a point-blank Emerium Beam 278.
- Energy absorption: Atrocious Belial can absorb dark capsule energy; historically, he also absorbed Ultraman King’s energy until Zero disabled the process 142 145.
Monster Control and Resurrection
- The Ultimate Battle Nizer allows him to control monsters 144.
- After gaining resurrection power, he revives Steel Dragon, Dark Gonar, and Alien Bat Grang in the Monster Graveyard 144.
- Retains the ability to summon the Battle Nizer even after becoming free of Reiblood, surprising Hikari and the Ultra Brothers 272.
Psychic and Spiritual Abilities
- Creates an illusion exploiting Zero’s fear that his strength could be used to destroy the Land of Light 141.
- Uses psychokinesis to open the Capsule Case and enters the Kaiser Belial Capsules as a stream of energy 146.
- Appears within Shinji’s dreamlike encounter and drives away the mysterious voice manipulating him 215.
- Enters Zero’s Mindscape by touching his Color Timer 272.
- Historically uses a sonic attack capable of bringing Geed down 145.

- Ultimate Destrudium Ray: Overwhelms Dark Zero and restores Zero’s red, blue, and silver form 279.
- Plasma Purification Light: Erases the Angel Wall and transforms the corrupted Mindscape into a tranquil white space 279.
- His transformation depends on the Plasma Spark Tower recognizing his renewed protective resolve; simply receiving plasma energy through the New Beta Capsule does not guarantee acceptance 270 279.
Limits
- As a purified phantom, lacks enough energy to restore his body without assistance 267 270.
- Has only three minutes available during the battle against the Mass Production Models 272.
- Nearly loses the final beam struggle when the Ultra Brothers’ supplied energy runs out 279.
- Knows that transforming again will prevent him from emerging freely from the capsule afterward 267.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Ultimate Battle Nizer / Giga Battle Nizer — Monster-controlling staff used for melee combat, resurrection, Light Bullets, Light Blades, and annihilating beams. It can catch incoming energy projectiles and return them to their attackers 144 272 273.
- Kaiser Claws — Curved claws manifested from dark power stored in the Kaiser Belial Capsules. Belial uses them against Dark Zero’s Head Blades 278.
- Dark Armor — Worn during the Frontier Universe’s final battle; shattered by the combined attacks of Ginga Strium, Knight Victory, Exceed X, and Orb Origin 144.
- Super-Dimensional Bomb — His final measure during the Super Universe Final War, responsible for destroying Earth and nearly destroying the Frontier Universe 144.
- Belial Capsules — Carry his power and later shelter his purified soul. Shinji recovers Hayato’s Kaiser Belial Capsule, uses its power alongside Geed’s, and eventually returns it to Riku 66 75 146 298.
- New Beta Capsule — Created by Hikari to help Shinji and Belial transform efficiently; contains Ultra Brother energy and energy from the Plasma Spark Core 270 271.
Relationships

- Mother of Ultra / Marie — Treated Belial during the Ultra Great War. His admiration for her became another source of resentment when she chose Ken 143 144.
- Reiblood — Forcibly possessed and corrupted Belial. Riku’s purification eventually expelled his soul 144 145.
- Ultraman Zero — Longtime enemy and eventual ally. Zero purified Belial; Belial later rescued Zero from corruption and received his thanks 51 146 279.
- Shinji Ikari — Earns Belial’s respect and becomes his partner in Zero’s rescue. Shinji trusts his redemption, while Belial trusts Shinji’s knowledge of Zero in battle 146 215 268 278.
- Riku Asakura / Ultraman Geed — Son, former intended tool, and the warrior who ended his ambitions. Their final meeting brings an apology, an embrace, and Belial’s acknowledgment of Riku’s worth 145 267 298.
- Fukuide K — Devoted subordinate. While reviewing his past, Belial begins to see him as more than a tool and quietly thanks him for his loyalty 144 145.
- Ultra Brothers — Former victims who remain wary of him. They supply energy for Zero’s rescue under Riku’s supervision and on the condition of a later trial 267 268.
- Ultimate Force Zero — Former opponents who fight beside him during the rescue. Glenfire objects to Belial’s proposed “Five Heavenly Kings of Kaiser” name 271 272.
Legacy
Devil Splinters
- Also called Belial Splinters, these remnants cause monster disasters across multiple worlds 40 54 179.
- A splinter dramatically mutates the Embryo Angel, producing additional tentacles, black claws, black-and-red markings, and blood-red eyes 49.
- Splinter-enhanced Sahaquiel withstands the EVAs’ combined beam attacks and severely damages Unit-01 134.
- NERV is asked to search worldwide for splinters using compiled energy wavelengths; Ultra Warriors recover others for destruction 51 179.
Power Used by Others
- Belial Fusion Beasts carry his power, including the transforming enemy faced by Zero, Z, and Geed 38.
- His capsule power helps create Zero’s Dark Radiant Sky Claw Form, but initially resists activation and later contributes to a rage-driven rampage 75 88 91.
- After Belial’s purification, Zero can use that power without going berserk. The form also incorporates Atrocious Belial’s aggressive combat instincts 146 223.
- Celebro uses stolen technology and Geed’s genes to manufacture Monster Capsules and Belial-related items; the Final Angel also bears Belial’s energy signature 233 262.
