Chapters 478–492 Vol. 5 Read

Ch. 478Side story: A small act of protection

Furina, troubled by a letter questioning whether her long perseverance could protect Fontaine, found courage in Ellin’s encouragement to protect people through small acts of kindness. Disguised as an ordinary girl, she visited the Orphanage and introduced herself as Lady Furina’s familiar, delighting the children and director.

  • Furina froze outside the Orphanage, doubting whether her efforts could truly protect Fontaine.
  • Ellin encouraged Furina to answer the children’s hopes and offer them a moment of peace as herself.
  • Furina borrowed money from Ellin to buy presents for the children.
  • After changing her appearance, Furina entered the Orphanage with a dramatic Hydro display and greeted the children.
  • Furina told the director she was Lady Furina’s familiar, and the delighted director called more children into the yard.

Ch. 479Lady Furina's Familiar

Furina and Ellin visited an orphanage, where Ellin introduced herself as Furina’s Familiar and helped the children enjoy a game. When the children asked whether Fontaine’s people would dissolve in the sea, Furina could not answer, and Ellin reassured them that they would protect everyone.

  • Ellin introduced herself to the director as Lady Furina’s Familiar, strengthening the director’s faith in Furina and warming Furina toward Ellin.
  • Ellin conjured gifts for the orphanage children and presented them as gifts from Furina.
  • Ellin led the children in a game, and Furina joined in to protect them from the sea monster.
  • As Furina and Ellin prepared to leave, a child asked whether they would dissolve in the sea, leaving Furina unable to answer.
  • Ellin comforted the child and promised that she and Furina would protect everyone.

Ch. 480Courage Found Along the Way

Furina confided in Ellin about her fear that Fontaine’s people would not be saved, and Ellin reassured her that her five hundred years of perseverance had mattered. Furina found the courage to continue playing the Hydro Archon, unaware that a trial against her was taking shape.

  • Furina thanked Ellin for giving her a day of freedom from pretending to be the Hydro Archon and admitted she trusted her.
  • Furina asked whether Fontaine’s people would be all right and whether her five hundred years of endurance had meant anything.
  • Ellin comforted Furina, promised that everyone would be safe, and thanked her for all she had endured.
  • Furina cried, hugged Ellin, and left with renewed courage after Ellin promised to protect Fontaine.
  • Furina put the Blubberbeast nightgowns in her secret treasure chest, slept peacefully, and dreamed of wearing matching ones with Ellin.
  • As Furina slept, a trial against her quietly began to take shape.

Ch. 481Side story: The trial begins, first update

As Primordial Sea Water spread through Fontaine and the crisis intensified, Neuvillette, Navia, and their allies set a trap to force Furina to reveal what she knew. At the Opera Epiclese, Navia accused Furina of impersonating the Hydro Archon, and the trial turned to whether Furina could survive contact with Primordial Sea Water.

  • Primordial Sea Water contaminated Fontaine’s streets and water sources, driving the population into panic, disorder, and flight.
  • Neuvillette, Navia, The Knave, and their companions concluded that Furina knew crucial information and arranged a trial to draw it out of her.
  • At the Opera Epiclese, Navia accused Furina of impersonating the Hydro Archon and failing to act during the disaster.
  • Clorinde blocked Furina from leaving, forcing her to choose between accepting the trial and fighting a Champion Duelist.
  • Furina failed to prove her divinity by controlling the Oratrice Mécanique d'Analyse Cardinale or citing her long lifespan.
  • Navia argued that Furina would dissolve in Primordial Sea Water if she was not the Hydro Archon.

Ch. 482Death sentence! Second update

Navia forced Furina to touch diluted Primordial Sea Water to test whether she was the Hydro Archon, and Furina endured it to protect Fontaine. After Sigewinne’s examination and Furina’s inability to demonstrate divine power deepened the court’s doubts, the Oratrice Mécanique d'Analyse Cardinale sentenced her to death.

  • Navia brought Primordial Sea Water onto the stage and challenged Furina to prove she was the Hydro Archon.
  • Furina, fearing that refusal would doom Fontaine, reached into the water despite believing it could kill her.
  • Furina survived the diluted water and proudly claimed that this proved she was a god.
  • Neuvillette asked Sigewinne to examine Furina, and Sigewinne found that her reactions matched those of an ordinary person.
  • Navia demanded that Furina demonstrate her divine power, but Furina could not prove herself and pleaded with the court to believe her.
  • Neuvillette declared Furina was not the Hydro Archon, and the Oratrice Mécanique d'Analyse Cardinale pronounced her guilty and sentenced her to death.

Ch. 483Deceiving History, third update

Furina was found guilty and sentenced to death as the prophecy came true and Primordial Sea Water flooded the Opera Epiclese. Ellin explained that Furina’s five hundred years of sacrifice had enabled Focalors to gather enough power to defy the prophecy, while Focalors drew Neuvillette’s consciousness into the Oratrice.

  • The court sentenced Furina to death for impersonating the Hydro Archon, and she collapsed in despair as the prophecy’s flood began.
  • Ellin watched from the Opera Epiclese and refrained from comforting Furina because doing so could disrupt Focalors’s plan.
  • Ellin explained that Furina’s performance had preserved the people’s faith for five hundred years, allowing Focalors to gather the power needed to destroy the divine throne.
  • As the rising water threw the Opera Epiclese into chaos, Focalors drew Neuvillette’s consciousness into the Oratrice Mécanique d’Analyse Cardinale.

Ch. 484The curtain call dance - Fourth update

Focalors explained her plan to Neuvillette and began her final dance before sacrificing herself to restore the Ancient Dragon’s Authority. Ellin entered the Oratrice’s mental realm, halted Focalors’s execution, and insisted that it was too early for her curtain call.

  • Focalors revealed her identity and plan to Neuvillette, including how she and Furina had worked to save Fontaine.
  • Focalors said goodbye to Neuvillette and danced beneath the sword that would end her life.
  • Neuvillette watched sorrowfully as Focalors prepared to sacrifice herself and return the Ancient Dragon’s Authority to him.
  • Ellin appeared in the mental realm and interrupted Focalors’s sacrifice with a sudden round of applause.
  • Neuvillette took a defensive stance as Focalors sent the sword plunging toward herself, but Ellin stopped its descent with her power.
  • Ellin told Neuvillette and Focalors to calm down, saying she meant no harm and could have destroyed the Oratrice earlier if she had wanted to.

Ch. 485Ellin's train of thought: fifth update

Ellin interrupted Focalors and Neuvillette’s plan to sacrifice Focalors and proposed that Neuvillette become the Hydro Archon instead. Neuvillette rejected the idea as submission to Celestia, but Ellin argued that joining the Archons could also insult the Heavenly Principles.

  • Focalors paused her plan to kill herself and asked Ellin why she had come.
  • Ellin explained that Focalors could step down and pass the Hydro Archon position to Neuvillette, allowing him to regain the Ancient Dragon Authority without her dying.
  • Focalors considered Ellin’s proposal, but Neuvillette refused to join the order established by the Heavenly Principles.
  • Ellin reminded Neuvillette that he would hold Fontaine’s authority even if Focalors died, and that becoming Hydro Archon could also defy the Heavenly Principles.

Ch. 486Side story: The two Furinas meet

With Ellin’s help, Focalors transferred the Hydro Archon’s power to Neuvillette, who restored the people of Fontaine and ended the prophecy. Afterward, Focalors reunited with Furina, told her the truth, comforted her, and granted her a longer life.

  • Neuvillette accepted Ellin’s proposal, became the Hydro Archon and fully restored Hydro Dragon King, and used his authority to make Fontaine’s people true humans as the flood struck.
  • The Fatui, the House of the Hearth, the Spina di Rosula, and Wriothesley’s airship helped rescue people and limit casualties, bringing the prophesied crisis to an end.
  • Focalors used the Oratrice Mécanique d'Analyse Cardinale’s stored power to rebuild her body and help Neuvillette handle the aftermath.
  • Focalors told Furina the truth about the past five hundred years, embraced her, and thanked her for enduring and protecting Fontaine.
  • Focalors lifted Furina’s curse of immortality and shared the Oratrice’s accumulated power with her so she could live longer.

Ch. 487The aftermath of the disaster

After Focalors blessed Furina and the two called each other sisters, Ellin created a new Hydro Archon authority so Neuvillette could keep his restored dragon authority while Focalors resumed her role as a god. Furina left the Palais Mermonia to recover, and Fontaine announced that Focalors would become its new Hydro Archon.

  • Focalors blessed Furina, and Furina asked to call her big sister before they wished each other good night.
  • Neuvillette returned the divine throne to Focalors, so Ellin created a new Hydro Archon authority without taking Neuvillette's dragon authority from him.
  • Ellin explained that she helped because she wanted to be friends and preferred a more romantic, beautiful ending.
  • Furina resigned as Hydro Archon and moved out of the Palais Mermonia, with Focalors and Neuvillette respecting her decision.
  • The Palais Mermonia announced that Furina had saved Fontaine but exhausted her divine power, and that her elder sister would inherit the name Focalors and become the new Hydro Archon.

Ch. 488Furina Seeks Out Ellin-Eighth Update

After Fontaine’s crisis, Furina struggled to discover who she was outside her role as the Hydro Archon and worried whether her friends liked the real her. Seeking reassurance from Ellin, she traveled to Mondstadt, and Ellin brought her to her previous-life home for a change of pace.

  • Furina received a home and a generous pension after retiring, but withdrew from visitors while Neuvillette gave her space to heal.
  • Furina wondered whether her personality, tastes, and friendships belonged to her or to the role she had played for five hundred years.
  • Remembering that Ellin knew and accepted her, Furina left Fontaine and traveled through Liyue to Mondstadt to find her.
  • Ellin saw through Furina’s worries and brought her to her previous-life home.
  • Furina found Ellin gaming in matching Blubberbeast nightgowns and learned that Keqing had asked her to gather cor lapis for Zhongli’s seventh account.

Ch. 489Furina at the Anime Convention

Furina struggled to understand how she could find happiness and rediscover her true self, so Ellin took her to an anime convention. At the Genshin Impact booth, Furina’s appearance drew a crowd, and other Furina cosplayers mistook her for an expert cosplayer.

  • Furina reflected on watching her own story and wondered how she could be happy or recover the self buried beneath five hundred years of playing a god.
  • Ellin stopped playing and took Furina to breakfast, then brought her to a large anime convention.
  • Ellin and Furina visited the Genshin Impact booth, where they saw cosplayers dressed as Megumin and a gender-swapped Azhdaha, as well as Greater Lord Rukkhadevata and Lesser Lord Kusanali beside a woman cosplaying the World Tree in human form.
  • Furina attracted photographers and video creators, then impressed the crowd with a sequence of poses.
  • Furina cosplayers gathered around Furina and asked her about her detailed outfit, wig, and glowing decorations, believing she was an experienced cosplayer.

Ch. 490Furina Takes the Stage, Tenth Update

Furina learned that the cosplayers admired every side of her, then saw the audience disappointed when the planned singer was hospitalized. Encouraged by Ellin, she took the stage to give them a performance herself.

  • Furina asked the cosplayers whether they liked her as the Hydro Archon or outside that role, and they answered that they liked everything about her.
  • The convention’s scheduled singer developed a high fever, lost consciousness, and was taken to the hospital, so the performance was canceled.
  • The host offered attendees free merchandise packs, but the crowd remained disappointed because many had come for the performance.
  • Furina watched the audience and, remembering her promise never to act again, struggled with whether to take the stage.
  • Ellin encouraged Furina to go, and Furina decided that she could not disappoint her followers.
  • Furina climbed onto the stage, received the organizer’s approval, and walked to its center.

Ch. 491Furina: Letting Go

Furina took the stage at a convention and performed La Vaguelette, winning over the crowd. Their love for her helped her accept that people valued her true self, not just her role as the Hydro Archon, and she wondered if her friends in Teyvat felt the same.

  • Furina stepped onstage, introduced herself, and prepared the organizers to support her performance.
  • Furina sang and danced to La Vaguelette as the crowd cheered for her.
  • Furina reflected on how the people in this world knew her flaws and secrets yet still loved her.
  • Furina realized people loved her kindness, courage, and resolve rather than her title as the Hydro Archon.
  • Furina let go of her doubts and wondered whether her friends in Teyvat loved her for the same reasons.

Ch. 492Please dance with me

Furina realized Ellin had quietly helped her understand herself, then invited her to dance onstage at the convention. After they danced, Furina received a Hydro Vision, bringing her story to an end.

  • Furina saw Ellin's encouraging smile and realized Ellin had guided her toward understanding herself.
  • Furina invited Ellin to dance, and Ellin joined her onstage.
  • Furina led Ellin through a graceful dance as the audience watched and filmed them.
  • Ellin congratulated Furina on finding herself, and a Hydro Vision appeared before Furina.
  • Furina received the Vision as a reward for becoming Ellin's close friend.
