Hermione met Dumbledore on the Astronomy Tower and asked him to help her find Nicolas Flamel to repair a damaged alchemical item. Dumbledore took her to Godric's Hollow, where she met his brother, Aberforth Dumbledore.
Aberforth and Ariana thanked Hermione for saving Ariana and Credence, while Dumbledore explained how her arrival had changed their family’s fate. Dumbledore then asked Hermione how many years in the future she came from.
Hermione revealed to Dumbledore that she had traveled seventy years from the future, and he explained how he had deduced her secret. After leaving Godric’s Hollow, Dumbledore gave Hermione a way to find Nicolas Flamel in Paris, then began to make another request.
Hermione agreed to help Dumbledore find Newt and Thena in France, then accompanied him to confront Ministry Aurors who demanded he oppose Grindelwald. She destroyed the Ministry’s surveillance bracelets and revealed herself in the Great Hall.
Hermione confronted Dumbledore and the Ministry officials over their restraint in fighting Grindelwald, then overwhelmed the Aurors who tried to arrest her. After Dumbledore stopped her from choking Leta, a young Auror recognized Hermione from a top-secret bulletin sent by the Magical Congress of the United States of America.
Travers recognized Hermione as the witch who had fought Grindelwald and tried to recruit her to the Ministry’s cause, but Dumbledore stopped her from rejecting him outright. After Hermione began considering her own plan to confront Grindelwald, Theseus Scamander arrived to thank Dumbledore for saving Leta.
Hermione explained why she despised Leta Lestrange, then tracked Newt and Thena to Paris and discovered they had been ambushed. She disguised herself as Credence and waited for their attacker to approach, leaving him ready to lead her to Newt and Thena.
Hermione rescued Newt and Thena from Yusuf Kama’s trap after he used an illusion to lure them into captivity. She freed them and prepared to interrogate Kama, who refused to explain why he wanted Credence dead.
Hermione tortured Kama with a magically transformed whip, healing him between lashes until he confessed why he had captured Newt and Thena and planned to kill Credence. After learning Kama was bound by an Unbreakable Vow, Hermione realized she had forgotten she could use Legilimency, and Kama cried himself unconscious.
Hermione, Newt, and Thena learned that Credence was Dumbledore’s nephew and found him working at a Paris magic circus. When the circus owner refused to sell the woman trapped in a cage, Hermione declared her free and unlocked the cage.
Hermione and her companions freed Nagini from the circus by bluffing the owner into fleeing, then learned that Nagini was a Maledictus who could transform into a snake. As they prepared to leave with her, the sky darkened and black curtains rose around them.
Hermione brought Newt, Thena, Credence, and Nagini to meet Nicolas Flamel, who examined her damaged Time-Turner and said he could repair it for a seventy-year journey with enough temporal energy and a stabilizing power source. The Time Stone supplied the temporal energy, and Hermione ended the chapter by producing a second Philosopher’s Stone.
Hermione learned that Grindelwald had used Credence as bait to lure her to the Lestrange family cemetery and recruit her. She refused to be intimidated and revealed that Credence was Albus Dumbledore’s nephew.
Hermione forced Grindelwald to spare Credence, then summoned Dumbledore after Grindelwald threatened Newt. She trapped Grindelwald, Dumbledore, and herself in a Mirror Dimension and offered to discuss a proposal.
Hermione proposed that Grindelwald join her and adopt cooperation between wizards and Muggles, challenging his belief in wizard superiority and his plan to strike first. Grindelwald admitted he feared Muggle weapons, while Hermione argued that war could devastate the small wizarding population; she could not guarantee her approach would succeed but promised to do everything she could to prevent wizards from being wiped out.
Hermione persuaded Dumbledore and Grindelwald to join her plan to avert war and transform the Wizarding World by warning them of the deaths and permanent estrangement their current path would bring. When Grindelwald asked about the organization backing her, Hermione revealed that the Witch Cult consisted only of herself.
Hermione persuaded Grindelwald to join the Witch Cult as her second-in-command and planned to purge disloyal members of the Pure-Blood Party. Vinda Rosier swore loyalty to Hermione, and the group prepared to confront Grindelwald's followers.
Hermione faced Grindelwald in a duel after negotiations failed, while Dumbledore confined the onlookers between rings of fire. As the battle escalated and Grindelwald summoned a blue fire dragon, Hermione prepared to reveal her power.
Hermione unleashed her ancient magic against Grindelwald, forming a colossal blue-flame asteroid that he could not stop. She broke it apart before it struck Paris and declared Grindelwald defeated.
Hermione defeated Grindelwald in a devastating battle, after which he secretly declared his allegiance to her and reshaped the Pure-Blood Party into the Witch Cult. The chapter ended with Hermione ordering her new followers to betray Grindelwald.
Hermione helped defeat Grindelwald’s forces, negotiated benefits and pardons from the Ministry, and let Travers share the credit. After the Ministry left, Dumbledore confirmed Credence’s Dumbledore lineage and revealed Leta’s connection to his past, sending her fleeing from the cemetery.
Credence learned that his separation from his family had been an accident and reunited with the Dumbledores as Aurelius. In Godric’s Hollow, Hermione used basilisk blood to suppress Nagini’s Maledictus curse, leaving her human again but with basilisk-like eyes.
Hermione turned Nagini into a human-basilisk hybrid and asked her to roam the forests of Albania if Credence died. After the others left, Hermione, Dumbledore, and Grindelwald discussed how their staged victory in Paris had helped the Witch Cult infiltrate the Wizarding World.
Hermione explained to Grindelwald and Dumbledore that she had come from seventy years in the future and gained Ancient Magic through Hogwarts’ inheritance. She then watched Grindelwald demonstrate the new contagious ice-blue flame spell they had developed, which the Spellbook recorded.
Hermione returned to Hogwarts after her time-travel journey, but the Time-Turner brought her back to a precisely fixed seventy years later than intended. She found the castle sealed and its students silently studying in an eerie atmosphere.
