Chapters 476–501 Vol. 5 Read

Ch. 476The tournament at Otheryon City

Osaerion celebrated receiving his own castle and prepared for the tournament his father planned for his sixth name day. The family gathered at Nobleheart Castle, while Rhaena remained the only child at High Heart without a dragon of her own.

  • Osaerion told Danyla that his father would hold a grand tournament in Otheryon City for his sixth name day.
  • Danyla praised Aurelion's rule over Reclea and the Rhoyne, where he had expanded the kingdom and brought Pentos under its control.
  • Ishina and Lucerys returned to Nobleheart Castle on their dragons, and Ishina excitedly told Danyla she had flown to the Iron Islands.
  • Rhaena lamented that she had no dragon, while her younger sister Lara had bonded with Grace in the Godswood.
  • Corlys tried to take Lara back to High Tide, but Danyla refused unless Lara gave up Grace, so Corlys left without her.

Ch. 477Changes in the North

Danyla’s children gathered at the godswood as the chapter described House Stark’s repeated losses and Bennard’s efforts to stabilize Winterfell’s finances. Investment and settlement had transformed the North and strengthened the Night’s Watch, while Cisland’s expansion and new fortifications drew wildlings back toward the region.

  • Lara took Rhaena’s hand and hurried toward the godswood, where Jacaerys and Viserys returned on Vermithor and Vhagar, and Rhaena blushed at the sight of Jacaerys.
  • Benjen Stark and Rickon Stark died in succession, leaving the young Cregan without an adult head of House Stark, so Bennard Stark returned to Winterfell to take charge.
  • Bennard sold land to Long Lake Town and Moat Cailin, clearing House Stark’s debts and leaving the family with savings.
  • Royal infrastructure spending, improved crops and livestock, and new roads and canals helped the North’s population and cities grow, while Iseryn and Islyn accumulated great wealth.
  • The Night’s Watch improved its supplies and defenses through trade and cooperation with Cisland, which occupied territories beyond the Wall.
  • The Night’s Watch and Cisland built a dragonstone fortress at the Fist of the First Men, whose magical walls helped the Haunted Forest flourish and attracted wildlings.

Ch. 478The Children of the Forest Came to Pledge Allegiance

Danyla confronted a group of Children of the Forest who had entered Nobleheart Castle’s Godswood and asked to settle under her protection. They explained that they believed she could help their people survive, and Danyla left them awaiting her decision.

  • Danyla, Myracis, and Urrax shielded the children and challenged the uninvited Children of the Forest, who offered Danyla a crystal that granted greensight without a weirwood.
  • The Children of the Forest explained that they had searched Westeros and other lands for a future for their people but had foreseen extinction without a place where they could thrive.
  • They said their people had seen Danyla in greensight alongside magical creatures and believed the Children of the Forest’s sun might rise again through her.
  • Danyla recalled that Children of the Forest, giants, and mammoths had already found refuge and prospered in lands under her rule.
  • The Children of the Forest said weirwoods could not survive on other continents unless Danyla planted them, and they had come to pledge themselves to her.

Ch. 479A discovery at Crackclaw Point

Danyla and Oserion surveyed Crackclaw Point with the Greenseers after Danyla settled five Children of the Forest tribes across Westeros. When Myracis sensed strange magic at a marsh lake, Danyla investigated and the party came under attack by bone arrows.

  • Danyla flew over the Isle of Faces with Blood Pact, Healer, Magic Fire, Sower, and Oserion as Blood Pact remarked on the island’s renewal.
  • Danyla reviewed how she had settled the five Children of the Forest tribes in different regions to support farming, alchemy, healing, and wildlife management.
  • Danyla and Oserion surveyed the misty, marsh-covered terrain of Oserion’s fief, Crackclaw Point, aboard their dragons.
  • Myracis reacted angrily to a marsh lake with a rotting-log platform and fish-tailed totems, and Danyla sensed an unsettling magical presence there.
  • Danyla ordered Myracis lower, and the lake’s ripples formed strange patterns as powerful magic stirred beneath it.
  • Bone arrows shot from the mist, and Myracis destroyed them with dragonfire and her tail, but the shattered arrows released foul green smoke.

Ch. 480Slapfoot-the Gillmen

Danyla and Otheryon confronted a group of Gillmen in a marsh, where a mysterious Coral Pearl Crown triggered a transformation in Danyla’s magic and bloodline. The Gillmen hailed her as the Lord of the Abyss, while an ancient platform released mist that empowered Danyla, Otheryon, the Greenseers, and the Great Dragons.

  • Otheryon and Danyla attacked the marsh after bone arrows were fired at them, and the Gillmen emerged and pleaded for peace.
  • The Gillmen offered Danyla a Coral Pearl Crown, and the Greenseer healer identified its runes as Old Tongue referring to a servant of the God of the Abyss.
  • The crown sent magical energy into Danyla, showing her visions of an undersea crater, an octopus, an altar, and a Great Dragon corpse as her fire magic merged with water and earth magic.
  • Danyla manifested the power of lightning, and the Gillmen recognized her as the Lord of the Abyss and bowed before her.
  • A stone platform rose beneath the marsh totem and released blue mist that restored plants and empowered Danyla, Otheryon, the Greenseers, and the Great Dragons.

Ch. 481The Truth of the World

Danyla and Oserion discovered a cavern where three mutated Great Dragon skeletons were bound, then encountered a strange energy-based creature from the deep sea. Its memories revealed the origins of the world’s peoples and magical creatures, leaving Danyla facing an unknown threat.

  • The Greenseer planter found that her weirwood seeds had sprouted into blue-marked saplings, while Oserion strengthened his bond with Ragnax and the three Great Dragons devoured the swamp’s giant crocodiles.
  • Danyla awoke and led the Gillmen to uncover a mist-filled passage beneath the swamp, then entered it while Oserion stayed behind to keep watch.
  • Danyla found three dragon skeletons altered by a living silvery-blue substance and learned from the Gillman leader that blue pearls from the deep sea had changed them.
  • A creature approached, the cavern flooded, and the dragon skeletons began to move as Danyla saw the enormous translucent being appear.
  • The creature forced a vision into Danyla’s mind, showing how energy-based life-forms transformed creatures, gave rise to the world’s peoples and magic, and enabled the Merman Folk to dominate the world.

Ch. 482The origin of the Great Dragons

The chapter recounts how the Blood Comet brought the Great Dragons, who destroyed the merman civilization and defeated the energy beings that had ruled the world. After the catastrophe, humans emerged from their caves and rebuilt civilization, claiming the world as their own.

  • For millennia, the Merman Folk enslaved other races and ruled through blackstone while Blind-Eyed Darcy preserved a prophecy of salvation from the east.
  • As the weirwoods weakened, the Children of the Forest passed their remaining divinity into the mists, and new creatures and races appeared across the world.
  • The Blood Comet arrived, and the Great Dragons descended, burning merman strongholds and devouring blackstone energy and energy beings.
  • The energy beings and their subordinate races fought back, but the Great Dragons prevailed until the remaining powers detonated the Abyssal Court's thirty-three spires, killing most of the combatants.
  • Fewer than ten Great Dragons survived and went dormant, while humans emerged from their caves and eventually rebuilt civilization.
  • A human expedition reached an eastern volcanic range, where its leader declared that the world now belonged to humanity.

Ch. 483The Marshfolk tribe

Danyla awakened inside a Deep One and, with Myracis, destroyed the monster and absorbed its power. She freed the gill-men, renamed them the Marshfolk, and made them servants of her bloodline, choosing Sera as Oserion’s guard.

  • Myracis, Urrax, and Vhagarax destroyed the gill-men’s ritual platform, while Myracis forced her way into the cavern to rescue Danyla.
  • Danyla resisted the Deep One’s influence and awakened purple-gold dragonfire as Myracis shared her power.
  • Danyla and Myracis burned the Deep One away, and Myracis crushed and swallowed its crystal, growing much larger.
  • Danyla escaped the flooding cavern with the remaining crystal fragments and declared the gill-men to be the Marshfolk, guardians of her swamp.
  • Danyla bound the Marshfolk and their descendants to her bloodline with a fire-seed pact, then chose Sera as Oserion’s personal guard.

Ch. 484Pearlglow Clams

After recovering from danger, Danyla discovered that blue mist was transforming the Marshfolk’s swamp and its Pearlglow Clams, then accepted the Marshfolk under her protection. She helped build them beautiful new homes and began laying a road from the swamp to Otheryon City.

  • Oserion broke down in Danyla’s arms after seeing that she was safe, while the dragons fed on animals drawn by the blue mist.
  • Danyla learned that the mist had accelerated the growth of the swamp’s plants and Pearlglow Clams, and that Urrax had transformed his bloodline.
  • The Marshfolk chief gave Danyla the Queen’s Tears pearl necklace, and Danyla returned a magical sapphire and valyrian steel bracelet as a sign of protection.
  • Danyla and Oserion used dragonstone to build glowing houses for the Marshfolk, and Danyla promised to build Oserion a lakeside villa.
  • Danyla began laying Dragonstone Avenue from the Marshfolk’s swamp toward Otheryon City.

Ch. 485An audience with the assembled guests

Danyla and Oserion received the assembled lords and merchants of Crackclaw Point in Otheryon City, where the young prince accepted House Brune's gift and appointed Garth Brune as his personal guard. After House Crabb presented a captured shadowcat, Oserion hinted that he was more interested in another of their skills.

  • Danyla and her party completed Dragonstone Avenue, drawing representatives of Crackclaw Point's powers to Otheryon City.
  • Oserion welcomed the assembled guests and announced a grand feast in their honor.
  • Garth Brune presented Oserion with an ancient dragonglass dagger on behalf of House Brune.
  • Oserion appointed Garth Brune as his personal guard and gave him a false Valyrian steel sword.
  • Rosso Crabb presented a pregnant shadowcat, which calmed when Oserion summoned his draconic aura.
  • Oserion told Rosso that he was more interested in another skill of House Crabb.

Ch. 486The Prince's Seven Guards

Oserion welcomed new allies into his Personal Guard as House Crabb, House Boggs, the Forest Clan, and the Lava Tribe pledged their service. He appointed Hawk as the sixth of the Prince's Seven Guards and declared that everyone on the Peninsula could prove their worth under the Great Dragon's rule.

  • Rosso offered House Crabb's twenty-man scouting party, and Oserion made him the third member of his Personal Guard and commander of the scouts.
  • Alan Boggs pledged House Boggs's loyalty and presented Ser Mortimer's ancient sword, and Oserion made him the fourth member of his Personal Guard.
  • Ayla presented Oserion with a glowing acorn from the Thousand-Year Oak, and Danyla told him to keep Ayla nearby to help him listen to the Peninsula.
  • Hawk offered Oserion twelve arrows tipped with volcanic glass, and Oserion named him the sixth member of the Prince's Seven Guards.

Ch. 487Illyrio the merchant

Oserion considered how to address Crackclaw Point’s deep-rooted conflicts as Danyla advised him to tackle the hardships behind them. Later, he met the merchant Illyrio and offered him a chance to become Otheryon City’s Finance Officer if he completed a task to Oserion’s satisfaction.

  • Oserion appointed Hawk to stand beside him, prompting cheers from the small tribes and displeasure among the noble lords of Crackclaw Point.
  • Danyla praised Oserion and advised him to understand the Peninsula’s hardships instead of focusing only on disputes between its tribes.
  • Danyla took Oserion to oversee Dragonstone Avenue’s expansion and taught him to manage his domain, while Sevan trained Oserion’s six Personal Guards.
  • Illyrio presented Danyla and Oserion with jewels and scrolls he claimed contained secret history from Old Valyria.
  • Oserion offered Illyrio the position of Otheryon City’s Finance Officer if he completed a task to the Prince’s satisfaction.

Ch. 488The Nobles' New Darling

Illyrio prepared to promote Otheryon City’s pearlglow porcelain as a luxury for Westerosi nobles, while Danyla inspected the porcelain kilns and saw a goblet reveal a direwolf when filled with wine. The chapter ended with the new porcelain’s special effect demonstrated.

  • Oserion showed luminous pearlglow porcelain samples and asked Illyrio to make them famous on both shores before the Tournament.
  • Illyrio reviewed the North Sea Fleet’s cargo manifest, confirmed the quality of the North Sea Pearlglow Clams, and planned to visit Oserion.
  • Danyla established pearlglow porcelain kilns near the Lava Tribe, where Myracis fed on the volcano’s magical energy to ease her hunger.
  • Tobu Yin presented Danyla with a delicate iridescent goblet fresh from the kiln.
  • Danyla poured chilled Arbor Island Gold Wine into the goblet, revealing a running direwolf across its surface.

Ch. 489The changes in Crackclaw Point

Danyla rewarded Tobu Yin by making him a baron and appointing his granddaughter Xi Yin as her personal maid, while Otheryon City’s porcelain and rainbow dragonstone trade transformed Crackclaw Point. The peninsula entered a period of prosperity and peace, and Otheryon admired his mother’s foresight.

  • Danyla praised Tobu Yin for his contribution to Otheryon City and agreed to make his granddaughter Xi Yin her personal maid.
  • Danyla formally invested Tobu Yin as the Pearlglow Porcelain Baron and granted him an annual stipend of ten thousand Gold Dragons.
  • Danyla developed Pearlglow Porcelain Mountain and Porcelain Town, using Dragonstone Fortress and conscripted soldiers to protect the growing settlement.
  • Merchants flocked to Otheryon City to buy rainbow dragonstone and pearlglow porcelain, driving a boom in trade, jobs, and migration.
  • Oseris invested most of the treasury in Crackclaw Point, while residents found better-paying work and the tribes’ disputes subsided.
  • Otheryon recognized that his mother’s prediction had come true as prosperity brought peace to Crackclaw Point.

Ch. 490Undercurrents and conspiracies

The Small Council debated Danyla’s decision to ennoble a former slave, then agreed to raise the budget for Prince Otheryon’s Name Day Tournament. Meanwhile, pirate king Marco fed blood to an ancient tablet and watched an image of Otheryon City appear as he awaited his master’s awakening.

  • Daemon denounced Danyla’s decision to make a craftsman a baron, but the Small Council defended the grant as a reward for the craftsman’s profitable work.
  • Lady Florence hinted that the baron’s granddaughter had become Danyla’s personal maid, while Rhaella defended the queen’s right to grant titles and redirected the council to the tournament budget.
  • Daemon approved raising the tournament budget to five hundred thousand Gold Dragons, and several houses pledged funds despite Lady Florence’s objections.
  • Marco knelt before a rune-covered golden tablet on the Giant Lizard Islands and fed it livestock, while his first mate Wick reported another attack by the Summer Isles.
  • Marco cut his palm and let his blood fall on the tablet, which revealed a three-dimensional image of Otheryon City as he anticipated his master’s awakening.

Ch. 491Rhaenyra POV

Rhaenyra Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne led to the Dance of the Dragons, during which she briefly ruled King’s Landing before losing the city and being captured and killed by Aegon II. After Aegon II’s death, her supporters won the war and crowned her son Aegon III.

  • After Viserys I died, Criston Cole helped crown Rhaenyra’s half-brother Aegon II, beginning the Dance of the Dragons.
  • Rhaenyra was crowned on Dragonstone, defeated the Greens early in the war, and took King’s Landing, where she imposed executions and taxes.
  • The betrayal at Tumbleton and the loss of her sons and supporters weakened Rhaenyra’s rule, while rumors about Helaena’s death sparked a riot that destroyed the Dragonpit and killed Joffrey.
  • Rhaenyra fled King’s Landing for Dragonstone, where Aegon II captured her and fed her to his dragon.
  • The Blacks later defeated Aegon II’s army, killed Aegon II, and crowned Rhaenyra’s son Aegon III.

Ch. 492Legion Coiled Dragon Banner

Danyla unveiled seven elaborate Legion Coiled Dragon Banner sets forged with Valyrian steel, magic, and ancient runes to strengthen her authority and equip her descendants. As nobles arrived for the Otheryon City Tournament, she made a dazzling public entrance from the Main Keep.

  • Master Tuo Bu presented Danyla with the seven Legion Coiled Dragon Banner sets, which included royal and legion banners, magical standards, weapons, armor, and a Dragon Whip.
  • Danyla approved of the regalia and explained that she intended to leave her descendants powerful, recognized symbols of authority.
  • Illyrio watched Otheryon City fill with visitors while Lyonel read out the names of arriving nobles from across the Seven Kingdoms and beyond.
  • Danyla emerged from the Main Keep in a golden palanquin escorted by twelve female knights in pearly Valyrian Steel Armor.
  • Danyla appeared in iridescent Yi Ti-style silk and dazzling pearls as a black-haired, violet-eyed maid carried a glowing crystal box beside her.

Ch. 493A World Ruled by Women

Danyla welcomed Duchess Jeyne and Lady Rhea, showing off rainbow pearls while promoting her allies and expanding women’s influence. She then learned that Isilia, Otheryon, and Ishys had founded a kingdom in the Red Waste after Ishys planted a weirwood that brought days of heavy rain.

  • Danyla warmly welcomed Jeyne and Rhea and displayed rainbow pearls she had chosen for them.
  • Danyla’s minister summoned her, and Jeyne and Rhea went shopping in Otheryon City with their pearls.
  • Danyla learned that Isilia had founded a kingdom in the Red Waste with help from Otheryon and Ishys.
  • Isilia helped a Yi Ti prince escape, gathered tens of thousands of followers, and took supplies and camels from Qarth.
  • Ishys planted a weirwood near a nearly dry river’s source, bringing heavy rain, and Isilia chose the place as the start of her kingdom.

Ch. 494A Great Dragon who could ride a human

Vaemond attacked Baelon and Bevivest near Holy Flame Island, turning a reckless challenge into a fierce dragon fight. Viserys and Vhagar stopped the battle, leaving Vaemond to face the Queen’s judgment.

  • Vaemond, Weywood, and Vinya rode toward Holy Flame Island and encountered Viserys and Baelon flying with their great dragons.
  • Vaemond challenged Baelon and sent Vaemontan against Bevivest, while Weywood joined the attack with Leviathan.
  • Bevivest tore Leviathan’s belly and damaged Vaemontan, while Vaemontan ripped Bevivest’s right wing.
  • Vinya rode Silver Princess into Vaemontan’s path, and Viserys used Vhagar to pin Vaemontan to the ground.
  • Baelon pleaded for Bevivest to stop, and Viserys condemned Vaemond for attacking their blood and warned him to hope the Queen would spare him and his dragon.

Ch. 495The Great Dragon Covenant

Danyla punished Vemon for starting an unauthorized Dragon Battle, then accepted Margaery’s offer to save him by surrendering his royal rights and making major concessions for House Tyrell. She left the gathered family facing another reckoning, this time over Weywood.

  • Dragonstone’s Dragonkeepers confined the children and chained their Great Dragons while they awaited Danyla and Daemon’s verdict.
  • Danyla returned to Dragonstone and stripped Vemon of his title and surname, banishing him to serve in the Dragonpit and forbidding him from riding dragons again.
  • After Vemon insulted Danyla, Daemon struck him, and Margaery and Audrey pleaded for mercy.
  • Margaery offered to have Vemon adopted into House Tyrell and surrender ten million Gold Dragons; Danyla also demanded Oldtown and Horn Hill, and Margaery agreed.
  • Danyla reduced Vemon’s Dragonpit service to three years, after which he could go to Highgarden, then announced that Weywood would be dealt with next.

Ch. 496Great Dragon Code

Danyla judged Weywood for provoking Vermon and sentenced him to serve in the Dragonpit before going Beyond the Wall, while imposing a heavy fine on House Blackwood. She left Daemon and his queens with orders to study the Great Dragon Code as she prepared to give birth.

  • Danyla questioned Weywood, who admitted provoking Vermon but argued that Vermon alone had chosen to commit the crime.
  • Maester Tigris explained that an instigator shared the perpetrator’s guilt and suggested sending Weywood to the Wall.
  • Danyla ordered Weywood to spend three years in the Dragonpit studying the Great Dragon Code with Vermon, then go Beyond the Wall and never return south.
  • Danyla promised to return Weywood’s Great Dragon, Leviathan, if he proved himself Beyond the Wall.
  • Danyla fined House Blackwood five million Gold Dragons or required it to surrender lands near the Blue Fork.
  • Danyla told Daemon and his queens to study the Great Dragon Code before leaving, and her warning about future princes soured their expressions.

Ch. 497Stormborn

Danyla and Daemon arranged for Baelon and Princess Vinya to marry, and Vinya accepted. As a violent storm struck Dragonstone, Danyla gave birth to a daughter named Isara, whose unusual appearance drew Azathos to the birthing room.

  • Danyla suggested that Baelon and Vinya marry, and Daemon supported the match while Audrey agreed if Vinya wished it.
  • Danyla and Daemon granted Baelon Greenvale and land at the northern end of the Boneway as the princely domain of Summerhall.
  • Vinya accepted the marriage arrangement, and she and Baelon spent seven peaceful days together on Dragonstone.
  • A fierce storm swept across the Narrow Sea as Danyla went into labor, attended by Xi Yin, Herb, and Maester Tigris.
  • Danyla gave birth to a princess named Isara, whose golden sheen, silver-gold hair, and mismatched violet and indigo eyes marked her as unusual.
  • Azathos appeared at the birthing room window and roared at the newborn, while Danyla reassured Xi Yin that he was looking at his little mistress.

Ch. 498Ozarion and his companion dragons

Danyla gave birth to Ozarion amid a storm, and six dragon hatchlings emerged from their eggs and crawled toward him. Fearing the power and jealousy Ozarion’s birth might provoke, Danyla decided to send him and Patirius to Braavos.

  • Danyla gave birth to a daughter, then endured another labor while Atozath roared outside.
  • Danyla bore a quiet silver-haired prince whose star-filled indigo eyes prompted her to name him Ozarion.
  • Lightning struck the six dragon eggs, and six differently colored hatchlings emerged and crawled toward Ozarion.
  • Patirius rejoiced over the birth of his son and daughter, while Danyla worried that Ozarion’s six dragons would alarm Daemon and stir resentment among her other children.
  • Danyla ordered Patirius to take Ozarion to Braavos and promised to make him Duke Patirius of Braavos, with the Purple Fleet and her Iron Bank shares.

Ch. 500The majesty of House Targaryen

Daemon learned that Danyla had sent Ozarion away without the Targaryen name, while secretly moving six hatchling dragons to Holy Flame Island. At a tournament in Otheryon City, Danyla arrived with Isara and three dragons, and Rhaena Velaryon revealed that she had claimed Silverwing.

  • Daemon's subordinate reported that Ozarion had left with the Purple Fleet and Danyla's Iron Bank shares, but no dragon eggs, and that Danyla had cut ties with Patirius.
  • Danyla secretly had Urrax take six hatchling dragons to Holy Flame Island without anyone outside her trusted circle discovering it.
  • At the Otheryon City tournament, Daemon watched Danyla arrive with Isara as Myracis, Urrax, and Azathos flew overhead; he noticed Azathos had chosen Isara as his rider.
  • Aurelion arrived on Vermithor, followed by Regosern and Sunfyre, as the tournament crowd cheered.
  • Rhaena Velaryon arrived riding Silverwing, thanked Danyla for her help, and looked tenderly at Aurelion.

Ch. 501Dragons ruled the world
