Aurelion entered the royal tournament and faced Oberyn Shade after Wumeng Dragonfire defeated Cars Flowers, while Danyla and Daemon argued over commoners and noble power. Aurelion effortlessly dodged Oberyn’s first attack, and Oberyn prepared a poisoned double-headed lance for their next pass.
Aurelion defeated Oberyn with the Oak Spear, while Jacaerys won his bout against Tybert and gained a reputation as a prodigy. As the tournament feast began, Danyla warned Rhaenyra that she knew about her marriage and dragon-egg plans, and the chapter ended with both women watching Aurelion among his cheering knights.
Danyla ordered captured Dornish nobles to be launched from ballistae and exploded as fireworks, terrifying the tournament’s audience and warning the other lords against defying her. She then told Daemon that Isilia’s new kingdom in the Red Waste needed his help against Qarth and Yi Ti.
Danyla arranged for Daemon to form the Third Legion and campaign in the Red Waste, funding the effort through wealth drawn from the Seven Kingdoms’ nobles. After the tournament ended with Daemon sailing east, Otheryon City prospered while the great lords grew increasingly dissatisfied.
Danyla imposed new dragon taxes and stricter rules on royal family members who married into other houses, and Rhaenyra reluctantly accepted the reforms. Danyla then toured the Seven Kingdoms to recruit for her legion, arriving in Maidenpool and visiting its hot springs with her daughters and noblewomen.
Danyla and her family bathed in Jongqi Hot Springs, where they absorbed its abundant magical energy and discovered its extraordinary effects. After selecting thousands of recruits and finding energy crystals at the spring’s source, Danyla traveled toward the Stormlands, where Ishys raised the possibility of becoming Queen of the Kingdom of Reclea.
Danyla tried to dissuade Ishys from pursuing marriage with her brother Aurelion, then warned her children against fighting over lands and titles. In a private conversation, Aurelion admitted that Rhaena was only a shield to avoid marrying his sisters.
Danyla arranged a hunt and invited noble families to help choose maids for her daughters, while observing her children and their dragons at camp. The chapter left the royal family enjoying the gathering, with Danyla reflecting on her daughters’ very different temperaments.
Danyla guided her children as they chose personal maids and attendants, urging them to value sincere ties while building useful alliances. The choices strengthened each child's own circle of followers, while Corlys realized his daughters were slipping beyond House Velaryon's influence.
Danyla continued building her Royal Legion and met with Walda and Maggie, whose women’s army already controlled the Iron Islands. During a Kingswood hunt, a magical white stag appeared before her, and a greenseer declared that it heralded the beginning of a new era.
Danyla discovered that silver crown fruits and a broken energy-body crystal were linked to the fortunes of human dynasties. She used the fruits and a blood sacrifice to transform Urrax, who fell into a deep sleep after gaining new power.
Danyla bonded Urrax, the ancient weirwood, and the Silver Vines to the Targaryen Dynasty’s fortune, then secured the Kingswood and won public recognition as Westeros’s true sovereign. The chapter left the forest protected, dragon eggs placed beneath Urrax, and recruitment expanding for several legions.
After spending two months at the Kingswood, Danyla and her party traveled to Summerhall, where she planned to use the great dragons to speed construction of the castle and prepare it as a military base. The city was taking shape, and its strategic position made it a key station for her legions.
Danyla used Hognara to dreamwalk into Essos, where they encountered powerful magical energies, and later received warnings about dangers to her children. After an enormous energy dragon sent her back to Summerhall without Baelon, mysterious Flame Seeds flew from her palm to her dragons.
Danyla’s dragons were summoned toward the ruins of Valyria, prompting her to send Aurelion and his legion back to Reclea under guard. Rafa brought her two powerful dragon eggs, and Danyla gave birth to twins Ithyra Targaryen and Lanneryon Lannister, securing Jason Lannister’s pledge of loyalty to the legitimate Targaryen line.
Aurelion and his companions fought giant squid attacking ships near the Stepstones, while sightings spread across Westeros and Danyla mobilized dragonriders to patrol the coasts. The chapter left Danyla heading for the Summer Sea as Vinylla and Senylla received orders to hunt the creatures.
Danyla used Rafa’s extraordinary mental control to subdue Vaemontan and Leviathan, allowing Oserion to tame Vaemontan with an ancient Valyrian dragonriding song. Oserion flew off with his new Great Dragon, while Danyla left Leviathan untamed for her other children.
Danyla confronted giant sea monsters spreading through Westeros’s waters, then visited the Great Dragons settling in Valyria’s Smoking Sea and decided to bring nearby Volantis under her control. As Aurelion assembled an army in Velonserys Town, Rafa gathered giant sea creatures off Volantis under his mind control.
Princess Senyra questioned whether Danyla would let her return to Westeros after taking Volantis, while her daughter Teran Rhaena defended the queen. The chapter left Senyra hoping to return to the Red Keep as Danyla’s plans for Volantis remained unresolved.
Teran Rhaena urged Princess Senyra and her family to support Danyla’s plans for Volantis as a storm driven by more than a dozen maddened sea monsters struck the city. The monsters battered Volantis’s walls, and the chapter ended with the Temple of R'hllor’s flames apparently empowering burning oil against them.
Danyla and Rafa watched as Salliss used blood sacrifice and sacred fire to defend the Temple of R'hllor from the sea monsters attacking Volantis. Salliss exhausted her life force and ordered the ultimate sacrifice as one of Danyla’s Dragon Eggs began to stir.
Danyla and Rafa battled R'hllor as the priests sacrificed girls to summon the fire god, while a fire seed drew in the temple’s flames. The seed entered a dragon egg, which hatched into a blood-red dragon that swallowed R'hllor and announced it could finally form a new body.
Chixiao the Yinglong emerged from Blazing Flame, seized the Fiery Hand’s faith from R’hllor, and warned Danyla that the Great Other would awaken before falling into a long slumber. Four dragon hatchlings then emerged from Rafa’s Dragon Saddle.
Danyla took control of the Temple of R'hllor, freed its Valyrian-blooded slaves, and renamed it the Holy Flame Temple as Aurelion and Rhaena conquered Volantis. The city was left under the protection of Chixiao and her dragons, while Danyla commemorated the dead with a monument.
Danyla prepared the realm for an approaching winter while settling the fate of Princess Senyra and Volantis’s remaining nobles. She left Aurelion to govern Volantis and ordered its exiled nobles sent to cultivate land near the Sea of Sighs.
