Background / History

Anya lives in a dilapidated orphanage when Richie first finds her sitting on the floor with Chimera. The caretaker dismisses her as strange and unlikeable. She becomes curious about Richie because she cannot hear his thoughts, then asks him to be her friend 1.

When Twilight arrives seeking a child, Anya reads his thoughts, claims to be six, and completes a newspaper crossword using answers from his mind. Twilight chooses her for adoption, initially declining Richie's request to come along. Anya then asks to remain with Richie, helping persuade Twilight to adopt both children 2 3.

Anya initially wants to be the older sister and promises to protect Richie. Twilight ultimately accepts Richie's insistence that he should be her older brother. Both children are instructed to present themselves publicly as Loid Forger's biological children 3.
