Background / History

The original Richie was a six-year-old orphan designated Experiment 700. Unlike the other experimental subjects, he was considered a perfect specimen whose body could develop any talent he wished. He had no interest in developing those abilities—or in continuing to live—and died of depression. Zhang Si subsequently transmigrated into his body and inherited his memories 1.

Zhang Si was an eight-year-old child from another world. His parents prioritized grades and handled everyday tasks for him, leaving him poorly equipped to care for himself. Although materially looked after, he remembered receiving little physical affection from them 19 36 47.

Recognizing the world of Spy x Family, Richie sought adoption alongside Anya by Twilight. He wanted the security of a powerful family without separating Anya from her future parents. At the orphanage, he discovered that Anya could not read his thoughts and accepted her invitation to become friends 1 2.

Appearance

Richie prefers sleeping, lounging on the sofa, and avoiding unnecessary effort. Twilight describes him as difficult to motivate and unusually mature for his age. His laziness is not absolute: fearing that a failed Eden interview could cost him his place in the family, he spends several nights preparing answers and rehearses throughout the morning 9 23 27.

He enjoys watching familiar scenes unfold firsthand and sometimes interferes to make them more entertaining. His attempts include engineering a kiss between Twilight and Yor and secretly joining Twilight’s mission to witness their proposal. He readily uses innocent expressions, invented explanations, and deliberately induced tears to escape questioning 10 11 13 14.

Under that playful exterior, Richie is anxious about survival and belonging. He repeatedly reminds himself that he lacks Anya’s protagonist protection, worries about the borrowed body’s unknown dangers, and fears that he may someday lose his new home. Twilight’s affection gives him warmth he had missed in his previous life 6 7 19 23 36.

His strongest boundary is Anya’s safety. He punches Damian for bullying her and initially refuses Sian Evan’s intimidation, but reluctantly submits when Sian threatens his sister. His pride also makes him conceal how frightened he was about Eden’s admission results 34 44 49 50.
