Background / History

Yor lost her parents at a young age and worked to raise her younger brother, Yuri. At least one assassination assignment was disguised as acupuncture and massage work; when her past became the subject of gossip, Loid praised the sacrifices she had made for her brother 15 18.

Before meeting Loid, Yor had told her brother that she already had a boyfriend so he would not worry about her. She initially sought Loid’s help maintaining that story at a party. Their arrangement expanded into marriage because Yor believed remaining single at her age attracted suspicion, and a husband would help her continue her assassination work 11 16.

Appearance

• Hair: Long and black 14.
• Usual clothing: Favors red and black because bloodstains are less conspicuous and easier to wash out; Loid later encourages her to wear other colors 20.

Personality

Yor is shy, polite, and easily flustered by romantic attention. After accidentally landing on Loid at their first meeting, she worries that he might dislike her. She continues addressing him as “Mr. Loid” after moving in, and both become intensely embarrassed when the children call them lovey-dovey 11 17 22.

Her affection for the children quickly extends beyond their original arrangement. She worries about Richie’s constant sleeping, delights in Anya’s invitation to hold hands, and comforts Anya after the apparent failure of her admission interview. During Richie’s interview, she explains that she has stopped simply spoiling him and instead encourages his curiosity through new experiences 17 18 24 27.

Her gentle behavior coexists with ruthless violence. After Swan mistreats the children, Yor kills him despite his pleas and offers of help. However, when she later imagines killing someone to create vacancies at Eden Academy, she explicitly rejects the idea and silently apologizes to the person she had considered targeting 31 33.

Yor can be remarkably credulous outside her professional work. She accepts Loid’s claim that armed pursuers are psychiatric patients and that beating them is a medical treatment. Her assassin instincts also intrude into ordinary situations: she misinterprets a mock interview question as asking about causes of death and becomes fascinated by a guillotine painting and restaurant cutlery 15 18 19 20.
