Organization and Territory
- Standing among the ancient clans: The Hun Clan, Xiao Clan, and Gu Clan are consistently stronger than the other five ancient clans 33 38. After the Xiao Clan’s return and victory over the Hun Clan, the Xiao Clan is acknowledged as the strongest clan on the continent 112.
- Age and secrecy: According to Xiao Xuan, the Hun Clan has existed several thousand years longer than the other seven ancient clans. Their knowledge of it remains largely limited to its outward appearance 205.
- Leadership: Hun Tiandi is both the clan leader and its strongest expert. His orders carry unquestioned authority within the clan 21 37.
- Senior elders: Hun Yuantian, Hun Shengtian, Hun Yao, and Hun Motian are the strongest clansmen below Hun Tiandi 37. They are subsequently referred to collectively as the Four Demon Saints and the Four Grand Supreme Elders 55 64 94.
- Soul Realm: The clan’s home contains forbidden grounds housing the Voidless Realm, a small pocket space occupied by the Nihility Devouring Flame 21.
- Concealment and mobility: When pursued by the Xiao Clan, Hun Tiandi orders all Dou Sheng and above to help conceal the Soul Realm. The realm subsequently moves continuously through the turbulent void to make its location difficult to discover 101 208.
- External influence: The Soul Hall is the clan’s publicly active force, backed and controlled from behind the scenes 28 34.
- Intelligence operations: The clan maintains spies inside the Xiao Realm and deploys Dou Zun scouts to monitor its entrance 37 43.
- Accumulated reserves: After losing its Xiao Realm invasion force, the clan expends reserves accumulated over tens of millions of years to forcibly replenish its experts 247.
Nihility Devouring Flame’s Position
- Hun Tiandi orders clansmen to treat the Nihility Devouring Flame as they would treat him, granting it exceptional standing despite its separate identity 21.
- Elders address it as Lord Void, and it sits beside Hun Tiandi during the emergency council 37.
- Their cooperation is unstable: Hun Tiandi wants its knowledge of Tou She Ancient God’s Cave Mansion, while the flame privately intends to overturn their relationship once it becomes strong enough to resist him 21.
- It later facilitates Hun Tiandi’s recovery by refining the clan’s own members, consuming most of its remaining Dou Zun and Dou Sheng 122 208.
- Their alliance ultimately breaks down inside the Ancient Emperor’s Cave Mansion, where the flame openly declares its intention to devour Hun Tiandi 225.
- Xiao Tian Ce subsequently seals the flame, removing it from the Hun Clan’s remaining forces 226.
Military Strength
| Member / Force | Documented Strength | Role or Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Hun Tiandi | Peak Nine-Star Dou Sheng initially; later fully reaches Half-Emperor 26 208 | Clan leader; initially identified as the clan’s only Nine-Star Dou Sheng. His physical body is later destroyed 35 226. |
| Hun Yuantian | Early Eight-Star Dou Sheng initially; the Four Demon Saints later all reach at least Late-Stage Eight-Star 37 94 | Senior elder and bearer of a Gate of Dead Silence. |
| Hun Shengtian | Mid-Stage Eight-Star Dou Sheng initially; later at least Late-Stage Eight-Star 37 94 | Senior elder and bearer of a Gate of Dead Silence; commands delaying forces at the Heavenly Underworld Sect 218. |
| Hun Yao | Mid-Stage Eight-Star Dou Sheng initially; later at least Late-Stage Eight-Star 37 94 | Senior elder and bearer of a Gate of Dead Silence. |
| Hun Motian | Mid-Stage Eight-Star Dou Sheng initially; later at least Late-Stage Eight-Star 37 94 | Senior elder and bearer of a Gate of Dead Silence. |
| Nihility Devouring Flame | Peak Eight-Star Dou Sheng initially; later Late-Stage Nine-Star, temporarily rising to Peak Nine-Star 45 225 | Allied Heavenly Flame; supports Hun Tiandi against Xiao Xuan and later helps sacrifice clansmen to restore Hun Tiandi. Ultimately sealed by Xiao Tian Ce 208 226. |
| Hun Yuanpo | Peak Seven-Star Dou Sheng; temporarily reaches Peak Eight-Star and subsequently approaches Early Nine-Star strength through sacrifices 50 51 52 | Commands the attack on the Xiao Realm; dies with the invading force 54 55. |
| Xiao Realm assault force | Hun Yuanpo, three other Seven-Star Dou Sheng, and a hundred additional Dou Sheng 44 | Invades while the clan’s strongest fighters confront Xiao Xuan elsewhere; completely annihilated 54 55. |
| Replacement Dou Sheng force | Approximately one hundred low-rank Dou Sheng produced through secret arts over the following thousand years 72 | Replenishes the clan’s numbers, but its members have severely restricted prospects for further advancement 72. |
| Hun Miesheng and the Soul Hall | External organization with influence across almost the entire Central Plains 89 | Maintains the clan’s outside influence and later leads renewed attacks on Central Plains factions 89 208. |
- Xiao Tian Ce initially estimates that the clan has two Eight-Star and roughly six Seven-Star Dou Sheng. Xiao Qing’s later interrogation of a captured clansman reveals four Eight-Star elders, or five Eight-Star fighters including the recovered Nihility Devouring Flame 35 38.
- The same intelligence report places the clan’s total force at more than one hundred Dou Sheng experts 38.
- Before the Xiao Clan loses its Dou Di bloodline, Xiao Tian Ce considers its number of Dou Sheng roughly comparable to the Hun Clan’s 39.
- Following the invasion’s destruction, only twenty-odd Dou Sheng remain gathered in the Soul Realm. Xiao Xuan also kills all four supreme elders, although preserved soul power allows the clan to prepare their resurrection 53 55.
- The resurrected Four Demon Saints return with the weakest among them at Late-Stage Eight-Star Dou Sheng 94.
- By the later conflict, the Hun Clan has two Nine-Star-level combatants, Hun Tiandi and the Nihility Devouring Flame. Nevertheless, its overall strength falls considerably short of the combined Gu Clan, Yan Clan, Lei Clan, and Ancient Void Dragon Clan alliance 206.
- Hun Tiandi’s accelerated recovery consumes most of the clan’s Dou Zun and Dou Sheng, leaving only a handful of powerful fighters besides himself and the Nihility Devouring Flame 208.
Power Progression
| Period / Event | Development in Strength | Result or Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Preparations against Xiao Xuan | Four Eight-Star elders, the recovered Nihility Devouring Flame, and more than one hundred Dou Sheng are confirmed 37 38. | Gives the clan sufficient forces to attack Xiao Xuan and the Xiao Realm simultaneously 44 45. |
| Soul-devouring escalation in the Xiao Realm | Hun Yuanpo temporarily reaches Peak Eight-Star, while five other survivors reach Late-Stage Eight-Star 51. | Their Dou Qi is unstable, and they remain trapped in Xiao Tian Ce’s arrays 51. |
| Hun Yuanpo’s final sacrifice | Three Late-Stage Eight-Star companions transfer their power to him, bringing his strength close to Early Nine-Star 52. | He does not genuinely establish Nine-Star cultivation; the entire assault force is destroyed 52 54 55. |
| Collapse of the first offensive | More than one hundred invading Dou Sheng die, and Xiao Xuan kills the Four Demon Saints 53 55. | Hun Tiandi orders resurrection preparations using previously preserved soul fragments 55. |
| Thousand-year rebuilding | Secret arts produce approximately one hundred replacement low-rank Dou Sheng; the Four Demon Saints return at Late-Stage Eight-Star or above 72 94. | The artificially raised Dou Sheng have little prospect of advancing further 72. |
| Battle at the Heavenly Secret Tower | Hun Tiandi forcibly raises his aura to a level comparable to or beyond Xiao Xuan’s post-breakthrough Half-Step Dou Di strength 98. | The exertion nearly exhausts his bloodline power, and Xiao Tian Ce gravely injures him 247. |
| Recovery through clan sacrifices | The Nihility Devouring Flame refines most of the clan’s Dou Zun and Dou Sheng; Hun Tiandi recovers and fully reaches Half-Emperor 208. | The clan’s remaining military foundation is largely consumed 208. |
| Final Cave Mansion struggle | The Nihility Devouring Flame raises its Late-Stage Nine-Star strength to Peak Nine-Star, while Hun Tiandi restores his weakened aura to Half-Emperor through a secret method 225. | Three Gates of Dead Silence fail to destroy Xiao Tian Ce’s grandmaster-level array; Hun Tiandi’s body is destroyed and the flame is sealed 225 226. |
| Defeat of the surviving leadership and remnants | Hun Tiandi’s hidden soul attempts possession during Xiao Tian Ce’s Dou Di advancement 247. | The possession fails, and Heavenly Net subsequently wipes out the last surviving Hun Clan members 247 260 269. |
Abilities and Skills
Realm of Death Formation
The clan’s guardian formation is created by combining four Gates of Dead Silence, each held by one of its four Eight-Star elders 37 46.
- The four bearers deploy their gates from the cardinal directions to surround the battlefield 46.
- It is said that anyone below the Half-Emperor level cannot escape its suppression 46.
- It withstands the collision of Heaven Tier Dou Techniques from Xiao Xuan and Hun Tiandi, although the elders must reinforce it with Dou Qi 46.
- During the attempt to kill Xiao Xuan, its purpose is to prevent escape while Hun Tiandi and the Nihility Devouring Flame keep him occupied until his injuries worsen 46.
- Xiao Xuan eventually feigns weakness, breaks the formation, and kills all four bearers in a single counterattack 53.
- The resurrected Four Demon Saints deploy it against Heavenly Net and Old Phoenix inside the Nine Dragons Ascension Array. Their attacks with the gates fail to injure the Nine-Star Heavenly Demon Puppets 95 96.
- A single Gate of Dead Silence’s explosion is capable of tearing apart one of Xiao Tian Ce’s Ninth-Level Spiritual Arrays 225.
- Hun Tiandi later attempts to activate the formation with the three remaining gates, drawing on the Nihility Devouring Flame’s Dou Qi. He detonates all three, but the explosions fail to damage the grandmaster-level Fengtian Grand Formation 225.
Soul-Devouring Secret Art
The Hun Clan possesses a secret art that temporarily increases a user’s strength by devouring other people’s souls 50.
- Hun Yuanpo releases dense black smoke filled with struggling souls and ghosts when initiating it 50.
- Trapped clansmen agree to concentrate their remaining power into one or a few survivors so that word of their defeat can reach Hun Tiandi 50.
- The art is most effective below the Dou Sheng realm 50.
- Xiao Tian Ce initially judges that it cannot raise Hun Yuanpo and his companions across the Nine-Star Dou Sheng threshold, regardless of how many souls they devour 50.
- Its first documented escalation raises Hun Yuanpo to Peak Eight-Star Dou Sheng and five other survivors to Late-Stage Eight-Star, although their Dou Qi remains unstable 51.
- A further sacrifice involving three Late-Stage Eight-Star companions brings Hun Yuanpo faintly close to Early Nine-Star strength. Xiao Tian Ce nevertheless distinguishes this temporary power from genuinely reaching Nine-Star Dou Sheng 52.
Soul Manipulation and Resurrection
The Hun Clan’s control of soul power is considered unmatched among the ancient clans. Its accumulated soul bodies can be processed into Soul Source, which Xiao Tian Ce later distributes to high-rank Dou Sheng whose soul power has not reached Heaven Realm Great Perfection 94.
- Hun Tiandi preserves a sliver of soul power from each of the Four Grand Supreme Elders before their battle with Xiao Xuan 55.
- After the elders are killed, he orders the remaining clansmen to prepare a resurrection ritual using those preserved fragments 55.
- Xiao Tian Ce recognizes that the clan’s secret technique can restore the Four Demon Saints despite Xiao Xuan’s report that he killed them. Their subsequent return confirms the resurrection capability 64 94 165.
- The clan also uses secret arts to forcibly create replacement low-rank Dou Sheng, at the cost of their future cultivation potential 72 247.
Bloodthirsty Soul-Devouring Formation
The Bloodthirsty Soul-Devouring Formation, also called the Soul-Devouring Formation, is the clan’s most powerful and dangerous grand array after the Realm of Death Formation 217 218.
- It devours souls, flesh, and blood. Several mid-rank Xiao Clan Dou Sheng died within it three thousand years earlier, with neither their souls nor their bodies surviving 217.
- Its strength increases with the corpses of experts and soul bodies supplied to it. The formation deployed at the Heavenly Underworld Sect is capable of injuring high-rank Dou Sheng 217.
- Sacrificing captives replenishes its power, allowing the Hun Clan to sustain the barrier against the Xiao Clan’s attacks 218.
- Hun Clan fighters inside can absorb its blood energy and souls to heal injuries, provided an attack does not kill them outright 219.
- Historically, it protects ordinary Hun Clan members by holding the Tunling Clan outside the Soul Realm until the clan’s absent experts return 218.
- Three Heavenly Flames threaten to break the formation at the Heavenly Underworld Sect. Heavenly Net also enters its barrier and withstands its attacks directly 217 218.
- During the later assault, the energy supplied by killing captives cannot keep pace with the drain caused by Xiao Qing’s attacks 220.
Possession Secret Technique
Hun Tiandi claims that the clan’s possession technique was personally created by its Dou Di ancestor, the Soul Emperor, whose understanding of souls was exceptional 247.
- The technique allows Hun Tiandi’s surviving soul to remain hidden inside Xiao Tian Ce for more than five years after the destruction of his physical body 226 247.
- He intends to possess Xiao Tian Ce during the latter’s advancement, take his place as a Dou Di, and destroy the Xiao Clan 247.
- Xiao Tian Ce detects the intrusion and inscribes two grandmaster-level spiritual arrays on his evolving body. The Heaven-Devouring Spirit-Absorbing Array renders the possession ineffective and continuously devours Hun Tiandi’s soul power 247.
- By delaying his attack until the final stage of the breakthrough, Hun Tiandi loses the opportunity to detonate his soul and becomes trapped inside Xiao Tian Ce 247.
Nihility Devouring Flame
The clan’s allied flame ranks second on the Heavenly Flame Ranking and possesses an innate power described as capable of devouring all things 1 10.
- Xiao Xuan considers its devouring power a threat not only to weakened clansmen but to the entire Xiao Realm 10.
- It uses Nihility Heavenly Realm, Devour Heaven and Earth while fighting alongside Hun Tiandi 46.
- Its knowledge that the world lacks origin qi allows Hun Tiandi to anticipate Xiao Xuan’s failed Dou Di breakthrough 21.
- It proposes using another Emperor Clan’s bloodline to heal Hun Tiandi, but he instead orders it to draw bloodline power from hundreds of thousands of Hun Clan members 122.
- Its subsequent refinement of most of the clan’s Dou Zun and Dou Sheng restores Hun Tiandi’s depleted essence and enables his accelerated recovery 208.
Documented Dou Techniques
- Fallen Soul Handprint — used by Hun Tiandi during his exchanges with Xiao Xuan 46.
- Fallen Souls Cross the Realm, Ten Thousand Ghosts’ Slaughter — used by Hun Tiandi in the joint assault with the Nihility Devouring Flame 46.
- Ten Thousand Souls Heart-Devouring Palm — Hun Yuanpo’s attack against the retreating Xiao clansmen; produces boundless black mist 48.
- Living Soul Annihilates Heaven — Hun Tiandi’s strongest Heaven-Tier High-Level Dou Technique, unleashed against the gravely wounded Xiao Xuan 53.
- Four Demon Saints’ combined technique — a coordinated attack comparable in power to a Heaven-Tier High-Level Dou Technique; it fails to damage the Nine Dragons Ascension Array’s barrier 95.
- Hun Clan Secret Technique: Soul Annihilation — documented during Hun Tiandi’s final struggle in the Ancient Emperor’s Cave Mansion, where black and crimson smoke envelops him and his weakened aura returns to Half-Emperor 225.
History
Longstanding Rivalry
The Hun Clan and Xiao Clan have been enemies for thousands of years. Huang Jiuji remembers their violent clashes from several millennia earlier. In more recent centuries, an agreement that Five-Star Dou Sheng generally remain out of the outside world limits the severity of public conflicts 38.
According to the Xiao Clan’s Fifth Granduncle, the feud began when the second Xiao Clan Chief admonished the Hun Clan for massacring innocents. The second Hun Clan Chief publicly rebuked him, leading to an immediate clash. During a subsequent battle, the Hun Clan Chief was surrounded and killed while the Xiao Clan Chief was held up by another enemy and could not assist him. The resulting hatred deepened over successive generations 218.
Roughly 120 years before Xiao Tian Ce’s recovery, Hun Tiandi attempted to win the Eight Clans’ grand tournament by having Hun clansmen and recruited Lei and Yan Clan experts restrain Xiao Xuan. Xiao Tian Ce and Xiao Chen intervened to stop him, despite Tian Ce having only recently reached Three-Star Dou Sheng while Hun Tiandi was already at Peak Six-Star 26.
Theft of the Nihility Devouring Flame
A century before the opening events, Hun Tiandi ambushed Xiao Tian Ce and stole the Nihility Devouring Flame he had obtained from a secret realm. Tian Ce’s injuries left him unconscious for one hundred years 1.
Xiao Xuan subsequently entered the Hun Clan alone to demand justice. Unable to defeat him individually, Hun Tiandi ordered the clan’s Dou Sheng to attack together. Xiao Xuan wounded Hun Tiandi and escaped, but his own injuries required thirty years of recovery 5 46.
The stolen flame spent the following century recovering. Xiao Xuan warned that the Hun Clan’s resources could have restored it to its former peak or allowed further advancement; its Peak Eight-Star strength was later confirmed during their confrontation 10 45.
Plot Against Xiao Xuan
Hun Tiandi arranged for Xiao Xuan to receive the scroll that encouraged him to gather the Xiao Clan’s Dou Di bloodline for a breakthrough. He later admitted that this initially minor scheme produced a far greater opportunity than he had expected 45.
After learning that Xiao Xuan intended to attempt the breakthrough, Hun Tiandi secured the Nihility Devouring Flame’s assistance in killing him afterward. The flame explained that success was impossible without origin qi, making the expected period of weakness an ideal opportunity to strike 21.
Emergency Council
Reports from planted spies claimed that Xiao Xuan had killed Xiao Tian Ce and exterminated his branch. Hun Tiandi convened the senior elders and ordered them to destroy Xiao Xuan, wipe out the Xiao Clan, and seize the Tou She Ancient God Jade 37.
The Nihility Devouring Flame, Hun Yao, and Hun Motian initially suspected a staged performance. Hun Tiandi dismissed their concerns because the branch’s monitored life tablets had shattered. The tablets had actually been swapped as part of Xiao Tian Ce’s escape plan 37 38.
Two-Front Assault
Hun Clan scouts gathered near the Xiao Realm as Xiao Xuan’s breakthrough approached. Xiao Xuan killed them before leaving for the Heavenly Star Mountain Range, while Hun Yuanpo’s assault force waited to invade the realm 43 44.
When Xiao Xuan failed and suffered irreversible injuries, Hun Tiandi confronted him with the Nihility Devouring Flame and all four Eight-Star elders. They enclosed him within the Realm of Death formation, intending to wear him down rather than win a straightforward duel 45 46.
Meanwhile, two Peak Seven-Star Dou Sheng broke open the Xiao Realm’s entrance. The invading force slaughtered clansmen weakened by the loss of their Dou Di bloodline and searched for the clan’s resources. When the search yielded almost nothing, Hun Yuanpo ordered further killings to compensate 47 48.
Counterattack and Entrapment
Xiao Qing secretly evacuated 499 clansmen before abandoning concealment and revealing her Eight-Star strength. Xiao Tian Ce then entered with the Peak Eight-Star Heavenly Demon Puppet Old Phoenix, turning the battle against the invaders 48 49.
Hun Yuanpo realized that Tian Ce’s death had been staged and attempted to warn Hun Tiandi. Xiao Tian Ce had already sealed the Xiao Realm’s space, blocking outgoing messages. Hun Yuanpo ordered a retreat, but the eighty-odd remaining Dou Sheng ran into the Spiritual Arrays surrounding the entrance 49 50.
Four Eighth-Tier killing arrays inflicted damage on both bodies and souls, killing nearly a dozen Dou Sheng within two minutes. Two additional arrays weakened the survivors and drained their Dou Qi. Facing annihilation, Hun Yuanpo initiated the clan’s soul-devouring secret art with his companions’ consent 50.
The sacrifices temporarily raised Hun Yuanpo to Peak Eight-Star and five other survivors to Late-Stage Eight-Star. Three of the latter subsequently transferred their power to him, bringing him close to Early Nine-Star strength. These efforts did not save the force: every invading Dou Sheng ultimately died, and none escaped to report the defeat 51 52 54 55.
Failure Against Xiao Xuan and Investigation
At the Heavenly Star Mountain Range, Xiao Xuan feigned weakness, shattered the Realm of Death Formation, and killed the Four Demon Saints. Hun Tiandi and the Nihility Devouring Flame remained wary of approaching him despite his worsening condition 53.
Gu Yuan and the Three Immortals of the Gu Clan intervened before Hun Tiandi could finish Xiao Xuan. During the standoff, Hun Tiandi learned that the soul tablets of every Dou Sheng sent to the Xiao Realm had shattered and withdrew 54.
Back in the Soul Realm, Hun Tiandi ordered preparations to resurrect the four supreme elders using soul fragments preserved before the battle. He then investigated the Xiao Realm, found no living inhabitants, and detected a mysterious trace distinct from Dou Qi. Unable to identify the attackers or confirm the Xiao Clan’s destruction, he ordered the Soul Hall to investigate and capture suspicious newcomers throughout the Central Plains 55.
A year later, the Soul Hall’s widespread activity was believed to be a search for the hidden Xiao Clan. Rumors within the Hun Clan attributed the invasion force’s annihilation to an expert of at least Half-Emperor strength 60.
Thousand-Year Rebuilding and Renewed Conflict
The destruction of more than one hundred Dou Sheng became a lasting humiliation for the clan. Over the following thousand years, it expended its ancient reserves and used secret arts to produce approximately one hundred replacement low-rank Dou Sheng, whose prospects for further advancement were poor 72 89 247.
Hun Miesheng maintained the Soul Hall’s extensive Central Plains network despite the danger of Xiao Clan retaliation. His personal hatred stemmed from the deaths of his father and grandfather at the Xiao Clan’s hands 89.
Before the Xiao Clan formally announced its return, Hun Clan forces killed Elder Xiao Tian Yun and severely wounded Elder Xiao Tian Shan. Xiao Tian Ce cited these attacks as the immediate justification for the Xiao Clan’s renewed campaign 112.
The Xiao Clan and Heavenly Secret Tower struck the Hun Clan’s external positions, collecting Soul Source and attacking its intelligence network. After Xiao Wu’s surveillance at the Soul Realm entrance was discovered, Hun Tiandi, the Nihility Devouring Flame, and the resurrected Four Demon Saints appeared at the Heavenly Secret Tower headquarters 94.
Nine Dragons Ascension Array and Flight into Hiding
Xiao Tian Ce trapped the six opponents in the Ninth-Tier Nine Dragons Ascension Array, which also blocked their outgoing messages. The Four Demon Saints’ coordinated attack failed to damage its barrier, while the Nihility Devouring Flame searched for a weakness. Heavenly Net and Old Phoenix entered to test the Realm of Death Formation and attempt to seize its gates 95.
Hun Tiandi forcibly elevated his strength by expending nearly all his bloodline power, but Xiao Tian Ce still gravely injured him. Shi Zhong Tian’s intervention disrupted the operation and allowed Hun Tiandi and the Nihility Devouring Flame to escape 98 118 247.
With Xiao Clan forces approaching the Soul Realm, Hun Tiandi ordered all Dou Sheng and above to conceal it immediately. The realm disappeared, preventing the Xiao Clan from completing its extermination campaign. Although the Hun Clan’s external eyes and ears were eliminated, Xiao Tian Ce regarded the survival of its core forces as a failed operation 101 104.
The Soul Hall’s outside organization was also reported annihilated by the Xiao Clan and Heavenly Secret Tower, and its activities disappeared from regions monitored by Xiao Tian Ming 118 141.
Sacrificial Recovery and Strategic Isolation
The Nihility Devouring Flame proposed using another Emperor Clan’s bloodline to heal Hun Tiandi. Rejecting the risk of attacking another clan, he instead ordered the extraction of bloodline power from hundreds of thousands of his own clansmen 122.
Xiao Tian Ce sought Gu Yuan’s cooperation in destroying the weakened Hun Clan, but Gu Yuan refused. Gu Clan elders instead discussed secretly preserving the Hun Clan so that it would continue to occupy and weaken the Xiao Clan 163 164.
Xiao Tian Ce later sent the Tou She Ancient God Jade to Xiao Yan as bait intended to draw out the Hun Clan 172.
While hidden, the Soul Realm moved continuously through the turbulent void. The Nihility Devouring Flame ultimately refined most of the clan’s Dou Zun and Dou Sheng to replenish Hun Tiandi’s lost essence. His injuries healed, and his strength fully reached Half-Emperor, but the recovery left the clan with only a handful of powerful fighters 208.
Final Central Plains Campaign
After years in hiding, Hun Clan members reappeared openly throughout the Central Plains. Hun Miesheng led renewed Soul Hall attacks that slaughtered alchemists in the Pill Region and devastated other factions, including Sound Valley and Yellow Springs Pavilion. Forces converged on the Pill Tower, Heavenly Underworld Sect, and Burning Flame Valley, while avoiding direct attacks on Heavenly Secret Tower branches 207 208.
Hun Tiandi and the Nihility Devouring Flame left the moving Soul Realm, abandoning its weaker inhabitants. Hun Tiandi privately acknowledged that practically none of the deployed fighters would survive the Xiao Clan’s response 208.
He subsequently met the Four-Clan Alliance and described every recognizable Hun Clan expert as an expendable pawn. He presented the campaign as a means to shed the clan’s threatening military identity while leaving some ordinary bloodline descendants alive. The Nihility Devouring Flame offered the alliance four prospective portions of emperor’s origin, rather than origin qi already in its possession, in exchange for cooperation against the Xiao Clan 209.
The alliance accepted a plan in which the scattered Hun Clan forces would buy time while the four clans provided cover and later delayed the Xiao Clan without exhausting their own strength. Hun Tiandi estimated that eliminating his deployed pawns would occupy the Xiao Clan for at least three months 211.
Xiao Qing divided the Xiao Clan’s forces among the Heavenly Underworld Sect, Burning Flame Valley, and the Pill Region. At the Heavenly Underworld Sect, Hun Shengtian’s force used the Bloodthirsty Soul-Devouring Formation and sacrificed captives to prolong its resistance. Heavenly Net entered the formation directly, and Xiao Qing’s later attacks drained its power faster than the sacrifices could replenish it 214 217 218 219 220.
Hun Tiandi’s Fall and Failed Possession
Hun Tiandi and the Nihility Devouring Flame accompanied Gu Yuan, Yan Jin, Lei Ying, and Zhu Kun to Tou She Ancient God’s Cave Mansion 214.
Inside the cave mansion, Xiao Tian Ce trapped Hun Tiandi and the flame within grandmaster-level spiritual arrays. Hun Tiandi detonated the three remaining Gates of Dead Silence, but the explosions failed to break the Fengtian Grand Formation. The Nihility Devouring Flame then turned against him, while Hun Tiandi used a secret method to restore his weakened aura to Half-Emperor 225.
Before his apparent final self-detonation, Hun Tiandi asked Xiao Tian Ce to spare the ordinary Hun Clan members drifting in the void. Xiao Tian Ce agreed to spare them for ten thousand years if they remained out of trouble. Hun Tiandi’s physical body was destroyed, and Xiao Tian Ce sealed the Nihility Devouring Flame 226.
Hun Tiandi’s soul had nevertheless secretly entered Xiao Tian Ce’s body. More than five years later, it revealed itself during Xiao Tian Ce’s advancement to Dou Di and attempted to possess him, intending to use his body to destroy the Xiao Clan. Xiao Tian Ce had anticipated the attack and inscribed spiritual arrays on his body; the Heaven-Devouring Spirit-Absorbing Array neutralized the secret technique and began consuming Hun Tiandi’s soul power 247.
Extermination of the Remaining Clan
After becoming a Dou Di, Xiao Tian Ce sent Heavenly Net to the shifting Soul Realm to eliminate the remaining Hun Clan members and collect the clan’s resources and secret techniques. This order superseded the earlier conditional reprieve given before Hun Tiandi’s self-detonation 226 260.
A subsequent account confirms that Heavenly Net wiped out the clan’s last remaining members. Although Yao Dan believed the crippled Hun Clan merely no longer qualified as an Emperor Clan, he did not know that its surviving remnants had already been exterminated 269.
Relationships
- Xiao Clan — Sworn enemy and intended target of extermination; the Hun Clan also seeks its Tou She Ancient God Jade and resources 37 38 47. The Xiao Clan’s survivors vow to avenge the Xiao Realm massacre, and Xiao Tian Ce promises to lead them against the Hun Clan after rebuilding their strength 63. Their later campaigns destroy the Hun Clan’s experts and ultimately its remaining population 260 269.
- Xiao Tian Ce — A particularly feared opponent whose intelligence and concealed abilities concern Hun Tiandi and the senior elders. His counterattack exposes their failure to recognize the staged deaths 37 49. Hun Tiandi later calls him the strongest enemy he has ever encountered; Xiao Tian Ce defeats both his military plans and his final possession attempt 247.
- Xiao Xuan — Longstanding rival of Hun Tiandi and the principal obstacle to the clan’s first extermination campaign. He kills the Four Demon Saints before the combined Hun Clan assault contributes to his fatal decline 53 163.
- Gu Clan — Another leading ancient clan. Xiao Xuan seeks Gu Yuan’s cooperation against the Hun Clan, but the Gu Clan initially chooses to watch and potentially profit from the conflict instead of intervening 10 11 36. Gu Yuan later intervenes to protect the dying Xiao Xuan and warns that his own clan would become the Hun Clan’s foremost target if the Xiao Clan declined 54 55. Despite their historical hostility, Gu Clan leaders subsequently seek to preserve the Hun Clan as a counterweight to the Xiao Clan 112 164.
- Four-Clan Alliance — The Gu Clan, Yan Clan, Lei Clan, and Ancient Void Dragon Clan consider supporting the Hun Clan to restrain Xiao power. Hun Tiandi and the Nihility Devouring Flame later secure cooperation by offering prospective emperor’s origin and proposing a delaying campaign built around expendable Hun Clan fighters 208 209 211.
