Xingtian and the Yellow Emperor fought through the sky, killed the Thunder God when he interrupted them, and continued their duel until their weapons shattered and they grappled barehanded. Meanwhile, Ju Wu survived and threatened to kill Wuming, only for Du Yu to reveal that his group had brought Wuming here to die.
Du Yu watched You Si freeze the battlefield and offer Xingtian a chance at eternal life, while realizing Xingtian’s death could not be undone. As Xingtian sacrificed himself to create the immortal embryo named Qisheng, Du Yu discovered that he had brought Old Zhan into being.
Xingtian died after You Si intervened, and the Yellow Emperor killed Ju Wu in revenge. Du Yu and the others searched for a way to bring Xingtian back, and Shiranui Asuka’s Other Shore Talismans let them see ghosts; they opened their eyes to a horrifying sight.
Du Yu and the Seven Outstanding Disciples of the Sage searched a vast crowd of ghosts for Xingtian, while the Yellow Emperor ordered Xingtian’s body honored and his head buried. Du Yu’s unlikely soul choices seemed useless until Zhongli Chun recalled that Su Qin had skills that might help identify someone.
Du Yu used the souls of Su Qin and Tuxing Sun to search for Xingtian, then found him and explained that Houtu’s future depended on what happened between them. Xingtian listened but rejected Du Yu’s account of the legendary battle that was supposed to follow his death.
Du Yu persuaded Xingtian to help Houtu and recruited him into the Eight Directions Ghost Record, then devised a plan to reunite his soul with his body. In the Yellow Emperor’s camp, the Shame and Guilt Brothers secretly teleported Xingtian’s body away while a staged argument distracted the patrol.
Du Yu disguised himself as Xingtian and let Xingtian take control of his body to confront the Yellow Emperor’s tribe. After fighting through the night, Xingtian left the devastated camp, and the Legend Management Bureau recalled Du Yu and the Seven Outstanding Disciples of the Sage.
Du Yu woke from a terrifying vision of a stone door while his companions carried him through the Underworld to meet Lady Houtu for the final step of the Legend. He remained badly injured and could not remember what he had seen behind the door.
Du Yu and the others helped Jin Jianglang cut down the first five of Houtu’s threatening “threads,” with the Queen Mother of the West intervening when “Resentment” and “Change” proved too strong. The final two, “Longing” and “Reluctance,” appeared as a red-clad girl riding a giant white wolf approached, leaving the group facing an unexpected form of danger.
Du Yu and the others fought two thread spirits embodying longing and reluctance, whose powers trapped the Queen Mother of the West and several fighters in memories of loss. After Shiranui Asuka snapped Du Yu out of the wolf’s influence with a slap, he called for reinforcements and devised a bold idea to wake the Queen Mother.
Du Yu and the others battled the Red-Clad Girl and White Wolf while the Queen Mother of the West fought them with divine thunder. Du Yu lost access to the Eight Directions Ghost Record, and reinforcements arrived as the fight continued.
The Queen Mother of the West nearly destroyed the Underworld Enforcers’ barrier while striking down Longing and White Wolf, but Shiranui Asuka helped Jin Jianglang sever Longing despite its attempt to manipulate him with Yanyanluo’s voice. Lady Houtu regained her memories and the Underworld was saved, but Du Yu collapsed after learning that two Super Grade A legends had reported errors.
Du Yu recovered from the Legend, but Houtu and the Queen Mother of the West sensed an unusually strong Elder Era aura around him. He was pulled back to the mysterious stone door, where its prisoner warned him away from two Super Grade A Legends and insisted Du Yu should never have come there.
Du Yu confronted the strange man, who claimed to be Time and warned him to hide when a visitor arrived. Du Yu recognized the visitor as another version of himself, Sage, just as they both collapsed from the dizziness caused by encountering themselves.
Du Yu and Sage met in Time’s domain, where Time proposed a speed contest in the upcoming Legends to settle their conflict. Du Yu woke in Houtu’s Cave Abode after more than half a month unconscious, learned how badly Xingtian’s power had injured him, and set out for the Legend Management Bureau.
After waking from a two-week coma, Du Yu learned that the Sage wager would force him into the later, shorter-titled legend, “Nüwa Mends the Sky.” He discovered that the legend’s error stemmed from Gonggong not shattering Mount Buzhou, leaving Du Yu convinced he was doomed to lose the wager.
Du Yu told the group about meeting Sage in a strange Stone Grotto and confessed that he had wagered against him, but could see no way to win. The Queen Mother of the West proposed tracking Sage by entering the Gonggong legend and ordered Zhan Qisheng, Shiranui Jinkuro, and Liu Ling to assassinate him.
Du Yu prepared an assassination mission against the Sage and reflected on the mysteries surrounding their conflict. Dong Qianqiu revealed that Gonggong had flooded the world in hopes of bringing Houtu’s mother back, leaving Du Yu to reconsider the cause of the legend errors.
Du Yu and Dong Qianqiu discussed the Legend of Gonggong and uncovered the possibility of a hidden ninth member on the Sage’s team. Du Yu then worked out that the Sage and his disciples may have survived the catastrophe by entering a Legend, changed the mission instructions, and prepared to raise the stakes against the Sage.
Du Yu confronted Time in his cavern and bargained for an answer about why Sage wanted him dead. Time revealed that Du Yu would soon fight a battle that would destroy the old world, then sent him back to the Legend with a warning to survive.
Du Yu and the Seven Outstanding Disciples of the Sage arrived in the Elder Era on the back of a talking giant sea turtle named Baxia. As Baxia carried them onward, Xiao Qi explained that he was one of the Dragon Ancestor Yinglong’s nine sons, while Du Yu wondered whether Baxia was connected to A Can and A Kui.
Du Yu guessed that A Can and A Kui might be children of the Dragon Ancestor and tried to persuade Baxia to take them to meet him. Baxia agreed after Du Yu offered him three thousand Spirit Stones and a Heaven-and-Earth Bag, then sped off with the group.
Du Yu and his companions traveled toward the Dragon Ancestor, and Du Yu watched the Sage manipulate events between Gonggong and Zhurong to recreate the Legend. As their journey neared its end, Du Yu told Xiao Qi to gather three people so they could put his plan into action.
At Mount Buzhou, Zhan Qisheng, Weaver Girl, and Yingning ambushed Sage and the Seven Outstanding Disciples, but revealed that Du Yu had changed his plan to break the Reincarnation cycle without anyone dying. Weaver Girl urged Sage to join forces with Du Yu, leaving Sage to consider a way out of the fate he believed was inevitable.
Du Yu concluded that Time had manipulated the repeating conflict between him and Sage, while Weaver Girl urged Sage to join forces with Du Yu. As a black-clad army approached, Sage agreed to cooperate and warned Dong Qianqiu that an old friend would return to the Legend Management Bureau on the fifth day after Du Yu entered the Legend.
