Du Yu fought Mo Lihai at the Southern Heavenly Gate, but the Heavenly Court’s identity check exposed him as a mortal Lonely Ghost and the Four Heavenly Kings moved to arrest him. As Yingning’s brush neared breaking, Du Yu called for help, and several unexpected figures arrived, recognizing him by different names.
Du Yu reunited with Zhang Jian and the other immortals at the Southern Heavenly Gate, then entered the Heavenly Court for a tour. Zhang Jian revealed that he intended to entrust Du Yu with managing half of the Heavenly Court, leaving Du Yu stunned.
Du Yu explained to Zhang Jian that he had wanted wealth and a family because he feared loneliness, but that his friends mattered more than status or power. After declining Zhang Jian’s offer to share rule of the Heavenly Court, Du Yu asked him to help repair the Legend Management Bureau and began listing his requests.
Du Yu sought a powerful director for the Legend Management Bureau and was summoned to the Jade Pool, where four foreign Operators had arrived to challenge the Heavenly Court. He introduced himself to them, leaving their purpose unresolved.
Du Yu bought seven days before the foreign Controllers’ legend exchange and asked the Queen Mother of the West to help rebuild the Legend Management Bureau. She agreed to become its director in the Heavenly Court and swiftly pardoned Zhan Qisheng, leaving Du Yu astonished by how easily she resolved the matter.
Du Yu secured the Queen Mother of the West’s support for the coming competition and was sent to find Nezha at his streetwear shop. He entered the store and heard an argument upstairs, leaving Nezha’s preparations unexplained.
Du Yu exposed Shen Shi’s fake Sun-Shooting Divine Bow but discovered that his other elaborate magical replicas were convincing and powerful. Du Yu offered Shen Shi a secure job and a place on the celestial roster, leaving Shen Shi to decide whether to accept.
Du Yu recruited Shen Shi to lead the Legend Management Bureau’s new Props Department and asked Nezha to advertise openings and investigate the foreign envoys’ legends. At the Ghost Gate, he met Qu Xi, a victim of Zhou Zhuangshi whose existence had altered the legend that led to Du Yu’s death, and offered her a chance to help save others like herself.
Du Yu recruited Qu Xi to help the Legend Management Bureau and returned to find the Queen Mother of the West’s builders had transformed it into a grand complex. He began organizing a broad recruitment drive as the bureau prepared to expand its staff.
After Qu Xi unexpectedly activated the transport machine, Du Yu suspected that Operators were supreme pivots who had died unjust deaths. Yingning’s history supported the theory, so Du Yu asked her to contact Zhan Qisheng to test whether he fit the same conditions.
Du Yu persuaded Zhan Qisheng to return to the Legend Management Bureau as an architect, and Zhan agreed to help rebuild its equipment for Yingning’s sake. The Two Sons of Ku'e offered to supply ordinary diamonds, but finding spiritually rich materials remained a problem when Shen Shi arrived to start work.
Du Yu recruited new colleagues and restored part of the Legend Management Bureau while learning which legends the four envoys planned to undertake. He began interviewing applicants, but his inconsistent treatment of two candidates sparked a dispute over family influence.
Du Yu streamlined recruitment for the Legend Management Bureau and spoke with the Eastern Emperor about demons, learning that the Indian monk Wazhang might hold answers about He Suoyi. The chapter ended when Qu Xi called Du Yu to meet an applicant who had written all eight legends perfectly from memory.
Du Yu recruited Pu Songling to lead the Assistants at the Legend Management Bureau and refused Fan Xiaoguo’s delivery of female Vengeful Spirits. As the interviews continued, Qu Xi began interviewing Voice Transmitters and encountered a woman who could contact Mr. Dongguo.
Dong Qianqiu returned to the Legend Management Bureau and resumed helping Du Yu rebuild its staff as recruitment concluded. As the Exchange Conference approached, she learned that Du Yu might be a Supreme Pivot and warned him not to enter Elder Era legends.
Du Yu prepared to host the foreign Operators and the immortals observing their exchange, while Wazhang arrived early and warned him that his actions could cause the world’s destruction. The chapter left Du Yu facing Wazhang’s demand that he abandon his ties to a “demon” and be reborn through reincarnation.
Du Yu weighed Wazhang’s warning about his fate and suspected the monk had come from the future, but Wazhang left without answering his questions. As the immortals arrived for the exchange gathering, Du Yu opened his Legend Livestream Room and began charging admission through membership cards.
Du Yu sold viewing cards to the immortals and brought three foreign envoys into the livestream to repair their legends. The group arrived in 1888 Whitechapel to investigate Jack the Ripper, and Du Yu learned Chada already knew who the killer was.
Chada led Du Yu, Shiranui Asuka, and Ramla to Lizzie Williams’s home, where he tried to sell her information about her husband. Meanwhile, immortals watching the livestream at the Legend Management Bureau learned how to tip and post comments, as the Operator planted a viewer to encourage spending.
Du Yu and his companions followed Chada as he sold Lizzie information about her husband, Doctor John, and tried to understand how the legend of Jack the Ripper was being shaped. Chada led them to a murder scene, where they discovered that Lizzie, not Doctor John, stood over a bloodied victim with a scalpel.
Du Yu and his companions helped Chada cover up Lizzie’s murder of Martha, but Du Yu stopped Chada from defiling the corpse and challenged his attitude toward the dead. At an inn, Chada explained that he became a Controller for money and feared being laid off if he failed to earn enough.
Du Yu and his companions accompanied Chada through the events leading to Jack the Ripper’s second murder, as Chada sold Lizzie information and later altered the crime scene to make the killing brutal enough to draw police attention. The chapter ended with Chada completing the gruesome reconstruction while Du Yu struggled to watch.
Du Yu and Asuka went to a London post office to buy supplies, where Du Yu unknowingly encouraged Arthur Conan Doyle to kill off Sherlock Holmes. After Dong Qianqiu identified the writer, Du Yu tried to take back his advice, but the letter had already been mailed.
Du Yu and Shiranui Asuka returned from meeting Conan Doyle, having changed history’s process but not its outcome. Back at the inn, Du Yu learned that Chada had eaten evidence from Annie Chapman’s body to prevent it from being discovered, and that he was trying to raise money to hire Controllers to resurrect his daughter; Du Yu offered to help and be his friend, but Chada suspected he wanted something in return.
Du Yu agreed to travel back in time and save Chada’s daughter, Casey, and entered a Portal to 1993. After he left, Chada addressed the Heavenly Court representatives to discuss business.
