Background / History

Childhood and Occult Exposure

Wendy grew up in Duke Renka’s household alongside Eros. She repeatedly skipped Mr. Boroka’s lessons because she found them boring, earning Estelle’s reprimands. After Eros reported that she had broken their mother’s flower arrangement, Wendy attempted to retaliate by drawing on his face with ink. He stopped her by threatening to reveal that she had also lost Estelle’s necklace 2 3.

Shortly after turning eighteen, Wendy disappeared for several days. She returned behaving mysteriously and refused to explain the absence to Eros. Duke Renka distributed unusually generous bonuses to the servants on the day she returned, leading Eros to suspect a connection 6.

By the time Eros began studying the occult, Wendy was already experiencing supernatural encroachments once or twice a month. She initially spent those nights in the Shadow Realm, but switched to sleeping beside Eros after discovering that his presence protected her 19 20.

Journey to the Imperial Capital

Wendy eagerly volunteered to accompany Eros when he requested permission to travel. Eros used her lost-necklace secret and his offer to support her participation to make her call him “big brother” 22 24 25.

She left with Eros and Estelle aboard an airship, then transferred to the family’s private steam train. Initially fascinated by flying and passing trains, she became bored during the lengthy journey to Intiles. At Count Bain’s Estate, she met her maternal grandparents for the first time and cried while watching their reunion with Estelle 26 27 29 30 31.

Academy Life and Saliba’s Pursuit

Wendy attended the Imperial Capital First Holy Academy before Eros arrived. Delighted that their separation was ending, she waited near the gates to welcome him. When nobles mocked his need to be carried up the mountain, she silenced them, thanked his helpers, and supported him into the academy herself 35 36 37.

Prince Saliba openly pursued Wendy, but she rejected his physical advances and efforts to interfere with her closeness to Eros. After Eros entered the fifth year, she invited him to live in her academy villa 36 37 41.

Saliba later offered to help Eros secure the ducal succession in exchange for Wendy. His willingness to add his own mother and sister to the bargain prompted Eros to investigate why Wendy mattered so much to him 42 43.

Concealment of Her Constitution

With Barbara’s assistance, Eros discovered Wendy’s Spirit-Favored Body. He suspected that Saliba wanted to sacrifice her to an evil god for a divine gift and a wish. After explaining the danger, Eros concealed her constitution using Lord of Secrets and the Little Book of the Night 44.

Saliba’s pocket watch subsequently stopped reacting to Wendy. Eros then claimed that he had sacrificed her and resurrected an obedient replacement; Saliba reported this accusation to the deans, who rejected it. Saliba thereafter avoided Wendy because he believed she was an Abyssal spirit. The documented event preceding this claim was the concealment of her constitution, not a demonstrated death or resurrection 44 45.

Wendy closely resembles Estelle and is repeatedly described as exceptionally pretty 2.

Personality

Wendy is mischievous, quick-tempered, and proud of being Eros’s older sister. She retaliates against his teasing with threats, chokeholds, or other physical pranks, yet can be readily mollified by praise. Her insistence that he address her as his “big sister” is a recurring point of contention 2 6 20 25 42.

Her affection for Eros is especially evident when he is vulnerable. She seeks him out during supernatural attacks, eagerly anticipates their reunion at the academy, and defends him against ridicule. She also becomes jealous when Joanie takes an interest in him or when he gives attention to the girl disguised as Thomas 20 35 36 41 42 43.

Wendy is curious about unfamiliar experiences but impatient with boredom. She skips dull lessons, enthusiastically watches the airship and steam trains, then grows restless as the journey continues 3 27 29.
