Background / History
Wang Meng was an armed police officer before entering the Godforsaken Game. He fell asleep after spending the night watching a criminal suspect, only to awaken inside the game. In Shell Town, he organized a six-person party rather than dismissing the game’s dangers as unreal 8 17.
In Qin Feng’s previous life, Wang Meng represented Great Xia’s government in its cooperation with Qin Feng’s Godslayer guild. He handled purchases of surplus equipment and skill books in exchange for tradable lifespan. Although his Holy Shield Warrior class was superior to an ordinary Warrior class, his combat strength remained below Qin Feng’s, earning Qin Feng his wholehearted respect 11.
Qin Feng remembers Wang Meng as a reliable partner after several years of cooperation. This history motivates him to rescue Wang Meng’s party in the new timeline and later extend credit for equipment purchases 11 26.
Appearance
- Build: Burly, tough-looking, and formidable 8 11.
- Early equipment: Carries a crude shield, later described as a shoddy greatshield 11 14.
- Holy Barrier effect: Golden light envelops his body when the skill activates 12.
Personality
Wang Meng is cautious without being paralyzed by uncertainty. He advises his first party to treat the Godforsaken Game as real and explore carefully. Once able to log out, he prioritizes warning loved ones and reporting the situation to his superiors 8 17 19.
He remains composed during dangerous fights, directing his teammates even while the Sprinter overwhelms him. However, his early plan to repeatedly revive and wear down the boss proves overly optimistic when additional monsters attack the party 11.
He is grateful, courteous, and generally good-tempered, but has limits. He sincerely thanks Dark Shadow for saving his team and offers future assistance. Later, he politely dismisses Qin Xiaoyou after her unreliable healing repeatedly endangers the party 13 42.
Abilities & Skills
Holy Shield Warrior
A hidden Warrior class specializing in durability and frontline protection 11.
- Its early health and defense are both more than 30% higher than those of other new players 11.
- Wang Meng holds the front line during his party’s climb to level 2, keeping ordinary monster encounters relatively safe 11.
- His survivability makes him the party’s preferred keeper of pooled tradable lifespan, reducing the risk of losing it through a teammate’s death 26.
- High durability does not make him invulnerable: the Bronze-grade Sprinter steadily overwhelms him despite healing support 11 12.
Holy Barrier
A defensive skill that grants three seconds of invincibility 12.
- Allows him to withstand the Sprinter temporarily and give his teammates room to reposition 12.
- Has a cooldown; he must wait for it to become available during the fight 12.
Shield Crowd Control
Wang Meng can leap forward and slam down with his shield to stun enemies 14.
- Stuns five pursuing Crawlers simultaneously during a rescue 14.
- Uses the opening to help his party surround the monsters and prevent their escape 14.
Party Management
- Checks prospective regular teammates’ real-world backgrounds 29.
- Requires priest applicants to disclose their identities and accept later registration with the authorities 29.
- Recognizes that his party needs both a tank and a healer for sustained monster hunting 29.
- Adjusts recruitment and hunting locations when unreliable healing or overcrowding limits the team 31 42.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Crude greatshield — His early defensive weapon, used to block the Sprinter and stun Crawlers 11 14.
- Gold-tier Warrior equipment — Offered by Dark Shadow for 280 days of lifespan, reduced from a quoted price of 300 days, as part of the party’s larger purchase 33.
- Pooled tradable lifespan — Held on behalf of his teammates because of his strong survival capabilities 26.
Relationships
- Qin Feng / Dark Shadow — Previous-timeline idol and government trading partner; current-timeline rescuer and equipment supplier. Qin Feng trusts his character enough to sell valuable items on credit 11 26 33.
- An Yu — Police colleague and fellow liaison to Dark Shadow. Wang Meng calls her “Captain An”; she joins the team in Firefly Town and pays its remaining equipment debt 20 42.
- Lin Liyu / Black Plum Big Li — Prophet-class teammate. Her dealings with Dark Shadow secure equipment discounts for the party 13 21 26.
- Gu Yixue / Snowy Day — White Bird Priest recruited on Dark Shadow’s recommendation. Wang Meng accepts her promptly and travels to Firefly Town to meet her 41 42.
- Qin Xiaoyou / Xiaoyou Ya — Former Life Priest teammate. He admits her after checking her identity, then dismisses her when missed healing spells repeatedly put the team at risk. He later forwards her skill-book offer to Dark Shadow 29 42 47 49.
- Wang — The original middle-aged Oracle Priest in his party. She leaves to play with her son in another town, creating the healer vacancy later filled by Qin Xiaoyou 13 29.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Shell Town and the Sprinter Rescue
- Forms an elite party of hidden-class players and becomes Shell Town’s second-ranked player 8 10 11.
- Faces a Bronze-grade Sprinter whose speed frustrates the party’s ranged attackers. Three Polluters attack the back line, putting all six members in danger 11.
- Holds out with Holy Barrier and healing support while Dark Shadow kills the Polluters and poisons the Sprinter to death 12.
- Thanks the unseen assassin, accepts his warning about trusting strangers in the wilderness, and offers to help him in the future 13.
- On the return journey, encounters Crawlers that flee after slaughtering another party and absorbing its lifespan. He subsequently helps rescue three players from five pursuing Crawlers 13 14.
Government Liaison
- Returns to reality at level 3 and reports Dark Shadow’s solo progress to bureau officials 17 19.
- Is assigned alongside An Yu to assess Dark Shadow’s character, establish friendly relations, and uncover his real-world identity if possible 20.
- Receives instructions to accommodate Dark Shadow’s requests whenever feasible, strengthening the authorities’ relationship with him 42.
Equipment Trading
| Event | Lifespan exchanged | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Initial bulk purchase 33 | 2,200 days total; 900 paid upfront | Receives equipment and skill books on credit, leaving 1,300 days outstanding. |
| Firefly Town repayment 42 | 800 days | Pays another installment directly to Dark Shadow. |
| Debt settlement 42 | 500 days | An Yu pays the remaining balance on the team’s behalf. |
| Further trading meeting 50 | No completed payment specified | Returns to town with his team to inspect Dark Shadow’s Gold- and Platinum-tier stock. |
Relocation to Firefly Town
- Recruits Qin Xiaoyou after the original priest leaves, but finds her healing unreliable because skills do not automatically lock onto targets 29 42.
- Accepts Gu Yixue as her replacement and dismisses Qin Xiaoyou politely before relocating 41 42.
- Teleports with Lin Liyu, a Keen-Eyed Archer, and a Card Master to Firefly Town, where Gu Yixue and An Yu complete the team 42.
- By the later trading meeting, his team has acquired Silver-grade equipment; the narration indicates that they have killed a Silver-grade boss 50.
Song Fei’s Death
- Asks Dark Shadow directly whether he killed Song Fei. Qin Feng admits it, surprising Wang Meng 50.
- Continues arranging their trade rather than breaking contact. The team meets Qin Feng in the basement of Firefly Town’s Abandoned Church, where An Yu discusses the authorities’ evidence concerning Song Fei and Jiang Li 50.
