  • Danzo learned Obito had joined Minato Namikaze's team instead of Root and ordered A and B to kill him and retrieve his Sharingan discreetly.
  • Obito arrived late to the bridge where Kakashi and Rin were waiting, and Rin noticed his dark circles.

Ch. 29D-rank mission

Minato assigned Obito, Rin, and Kakashi a D-rank mission to drive wild boars away from a farmer’s cornfield, then turned it into a competition between his team and the students. The students began hunting together, but Kakashi killed their first boar before Obito could claim it, setting off a contest between them.

  • Minato arrived late and told Obito, Rin, and Kakashi that their mission was to deal with wild boars threatening a farmer’s cornfield.

  • Kakashi took the lead and decided to kill more boars than Obito.

Ch. 30Selling a Summoning Beast

  • Obito and Kurenai reached their training woods, where Obito hesitated to take her hand when she asked why he had been so quiet.

Ch. 32Ambush in the Woods

  • Kurenai realized that someone might have set a trap.

Ch. 33Three Figures in Black

  • Obito evaded the three ninja’s combined attacks by sinking underground, then used genjutsu and Kamui to make one of them vanish.
  • Obito caught another ninja in a Skeletal Arm and demanded to know who had sent them.

  • Obito used his Sharingan to control the insect-controlling ninja, then freed the other operative from the Kamui Dimension and questioned both men.
  • The operatives said they only knew their masked leader was a captain in Root, leading Obito to suspect Danzo.
  • Obito decided to pursue the system mission to make Danzo lose face rather than attack Root directly.
  • Covered in blood, Obito dragged the two bound corpses through the village to the Hokage Office Building and asked to lodge a complaint with the Third Hokage.
  • A guard went upstairs to alert the Hokage, while hundreds of villagers gathered outside.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi came downstairs and asked Obito what had happened.

Ch. 36Things got out of hand

Obito publicly accused Root of sending two ninjas to assassinate him, forcing Hiruzen Sarutobi to investigate in front of the gathered villagers. After a former Root member identified the dead attackers as jōnin Yamanaka Kine and Shimura Yuri, Shimura Danzō arrived to answer Hiruzen’s summons.

  • Obito told Hiruzen Sarutobi and the villagers that two people had tried to assassinate him while he was training, and he insisted on explaining the incident publicly.

  • Fugaku brought Obito to the Uchiha compound, and Obito copied Fugaku’s eye power and shuriken-throwing skill.
  • Mikoto let Obito bathe before Fugaku and the clan elders gathered to discuss the attack and the Uchiha’s standing in Konoha.
  • Obito told the elders what had happened but concealed that he had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  • Uchiha Tekka and the third elder accused the Third and Danzo of conspiring against Obito and demanded action.
  • Fugaku said the clan lacked enough evidence and strength to confront Danzo, so the meeting ended without a plan.
  • Obito left Fugaku’s house determined to prevent the Uchiha’s destruction and to kill Danzo if he attacked the clan again.

Ch. 39Team Minato

Obito brought unconscious Kurenai home, where Grandmother caught him leaning in to kiss her and beat him before he could explain. A year later, after helping an elderly woman reach Konoha Hospital for a system reward, Obito arrived late to meet Team Minato and admitted to Kakashi that he had been helping her.

Obito quickly passed the Chunin Ninja Exams’ written test by using his Sharingan to copy a plant’s answers, then secretly helped Anko pass as well. At the Forest of Death, he reunited with his friends and drew teasing and jealousy over Kurenai’s affection for him while they waited for the scroll battle.

  • Obito used his Sharingan to copy a plant’s answers and finished the written test first, then slipped Anko a note containing the answers and a promise to buy her dango next time.

  • Hokoku watched Obito warily and reminded him that the exam rules prohibited killing.

Ch. 44Toying with Baoguo

Obito frightened Baoguo and Mizuki before chasing them through the Forest of Death to settle his grudge with Baoguo. As other competing ninja noticed the commotion and followed, Obito continued closing in on the fleeing Baoguo.

  • Obito threatened Baoguo and Mizuki, then charged at them while Midori Nara tried to restrain him with Shadow Imitation.
  • Mizuki and Baoguo abandoned Midori and fled, and Midori let Obito pass after blocking his shuriken.
