Background

Shisui lives with his parents in the Uchiha Clan Compound and attends the Ninja Academy rather than receiving all his education within the clan. By his third year, he is already recognized among the younger Uchiha as a genius and intends to graduate early 28 30 33 35.

He inherits the Will of Fire from Kagami Uchiha, whom he describes as a predecessor. However, he does not dare discuss these beliefs with his fellow clan members and finds few children his age who understand them. His friendship with Xue Ge gives him someone outside the clan with whom he can speak openly 34.

Shisui is troubled by the Uchiha’s estrangement from Konoha. He explains to Xue Ge how prejudice following Madara’s defection, relocation to the village outskirts, exclusion from ANBU, and wartime distrust damaged the clan’s relationship with the village 34.

Personality

Shisui is cheerful, sociable, and generous with his knowledge. Soon after meeting Xue Ge, he spends two hours teaching him the Body Flicker Technique. When Xue Ge visits his home, Shisui insists on receiving him properly with tea, pastries, fruit, and a meal before discussing training 29 33.

Despite his talent, he readily admires others’ accomplishments. He is astonished by Xue Ge’s involvement in developing sealless ninjutsu and accepts without complaint that Xue Ge needs his collaborator’s permission before teaching the Rasengan. He also rejects the assumption that every Uchiha must be a genius, defending Obito’s admission to the Academy as an achievement in its own right 29 35.

His loyalty can override concern for his own safety. He refuses to abandon an injured Xue Ge to Anrokuzan’s fireball and later becomes frantic when Xue Ge disappears into the Dragon Vein. Killing nevertheless troubles him: after an early mission, he repeatedly washes his hands even after the blood is gone 78 83 95.

Meeting Xue Ge

Shisui first encounters Xue Ge at the Back Mountain waterfall, where both have come to train. After a brief clash, he recognizes Xue Ge from his fight with Kakashi and introduces himself. Their exchange develops into mutual instruction: Shisui teaches Body Flicker, while Xue Ge later introduces him to chakra threads and the Strangling Line 28 29 33 34.

Their friendship also gives Shisui an opportunity to discuss the Uchiha’s political isolation without speaking to another clan member. Xue Ge’s visit to his home establishes a personal connection that later extends to Fugaku 34 89.

Formation of Team Minato

Shisui graduates shortly after Xue Ge and Kakashi. Hiruzen approves his placement alongside them despite Danzo’s objections, hoping that friendship with village peers will counter the Uchiha’s isolation 62 63.

Over the following six months, Team Minato repeatedly breaks records for mission efficiency, completion numbers, and success rate. Minato then obtains permission to bring all three students on a top-secret S-rank mission to Rōran 64.

Rōran and the Sharingan Awakening
