| Shared body evolves into Porygon2 | 633 | Dodo’s angular body becomes rounded. A stabilization period is required before another evolution. |
| Elder Sister evolves into Porygon-Z | 689 | Uses a Dubious Disc. Younger Brother remains unevolved beyond Porygon2, so their outward appearance stays that of an Inflatable Duck. |
| Dynamax-enhanced racing buffs | 725 | Small amounts of coordinated Dynamax Infinity Energy strengthen Dodo’s buff moves through racing Skill Slots. The technique remains difficult and is limited to Normal-type moves. |
Background / History
Professor Akihabara and the Team Rocket Disaster
Dodo began as two separate Porygon, Unit Zero and Unit One, created by Professor Akihabara. The professor treated them as living companions rather than research tools, introducing them to human society, racing, Battle Cooking, and Pokémon battles 145 631.
After Team Rocket captured one Porygon, Akihabara took the other to cooperate with the Security Bureau. An explosion and the destruction of electronic storage devices left both Porygon with irreparable damage. Gravely ill himself, Akihabara achieved a technological breakthrough that combined their damaged forms into one body. Their souls remained distinct and compatible, allowing both siblings to survive. He named the resulting Pokémon Dodo before his death 212.
Apollo later deceived the already withdrawn Dodo into stealing other Pokémon. During Team Rocket’s captivity, Dodo was confined in a Chain Ball, rather than an ordinary Poké Ball. His despair became severe enough that he was indifferent to his own survival, and he narrowly escaped destruction by the Security Bureau. Nevertheless, he cooperated with investigators and helped rescue Pokémon 136 145 170 212.
Recovery and Joining Shen Qi
The Security Bureau placed Dodo at Pokémon High School to restore normal interaction with humans and Pokémon while assessing any potential danger. Shen Qi gradually earned his trust, avoiding questions about Akihabara before Dodo was ready. Dodo entered Shen Qi’s Poké Ball but initially still had to return to the school under official supervision 142 147 149.
His recovery became visible in everyday behavior: he volunteered to interact with other Pokémon, comforted Lopunny, and became excited about traveling with Shen Qi. Mizuki’s observations contrasted his improved condition with the withdrawn, deeply repressed state recorded during the Team Rocket investigation. The Security Bureau eventually permitted him to leave Pokémon High School and live with Shen Qi 149 162 190.
Racing and Battle Support
Dodo initially felt discouraged when he accompanied the team without contributing. His first race deployment used Magnet Rise to carry Flower Crown across a sharp corner. Later airborne adjustments became decisive in securing qualification for the T3 Main Race 167 172 175 176.
His support expanded to Agility, Download, copied Abilities, and weather-resistant typing. Shen Qi also developed an electronic-storage arrangement so Dodo could observe the course and assist without adding his full physical weight to the car 202 206 233 273 346.
Dodo’s versatility did not eliminate strength gaps. During a test against Lorelei, Dewgong defeated Shen Qi’s three-Pokémon team while holding back. Later, against Ni Shang, Dodo used a Normal/Ghost combination to withstand Sacred Sword and continue attacking Gallade 374 530.
During the Ultra Beast disaster, Shen Qi protected Dodo from surrounding Ultra Infinity Energy and Dynamaxed him to roughly thirty meters. A boosted Max Strike knocked Buzzwole back into Ultra Space and helped delay the Ultra Beasts. Dodo’s Dynamax expired before the rift could be substantially repaired; Solgaleo and Lunala subsequently arrived to contain the crisis 619.
Returning to Akihabara Research Institute
Despite more than a year with Shen Qi, Dodo remained reluctant to return to Macha City or seek further evolution. Seeing the relationship between Professor Burnet and the evolving Flabébé helped him acknowledge that he missed Akihabara and wanted to face his grief. Shen Qi agreed to accompany him 626 627.
At the Akihabara Research Institute, they learned that Nishinomori V had purchased and maintained the property, including Akihabara’s grave. Supported by Shen Qi and his companions, Dodo toured the institute without the emotional collapse he had feared. He recognized his memories of Akihabara as a source of strength rather than something he had to avoid 631 632 633.
Dodo then accepted evolution into Porygon2. After allowing his energy chakras to stabilize, Elder Sister later used the Dubious Disc to become Porygon-Z without changing their shared Porygon2 appearance 633 689.
Appearance
Dodo initially has the angular, blocklike body of a Porygon; evolution into Porygon2 rounds those edges into an inflatable-duck shape 191 633.
- Original measurements: Approximately 80 centimeters tall and 40 kilograms during the early racing period 206.
- Electronic expressions: His pupils curve upward when pleased, and he frequently hums or vocalizes electronic notes 142 631.
- Porygon2 features: Rounded contours, an ellipsoidal tail, and two ellipsoidal feet 633.
- Dynamax appearance: A dark-red reflective layer and three dusky-red clouds accompany his enlarged body 520.
- Mixed evolution: Elder Sister’s evolution into Porygon-Z does not alter the outward Inflatable Duck appearance 689.
Personality
Dodo finds meaning in helping people and Pokémon, especially Shen Qi. Early in his recovery, being useful matters more to him than sweet talk or romantic attention. His excitement at finally contributing to a race reflects this need to participate rather than merely accompany the team 145 172.
His analytical intelligence is much stronger than his understanding of social subtleties. When he fixes a vending-machine exploit, he cannot understand why students who relied on it become upset. Similarly, he treats Shen Qi’s suggestive “study materials” as ordinary data and offers them to Lopunny as practical advice 143 149.
Although increasingly cheerful and resilient, Dodo fears rejection over his unusual origins. After revealing that he contains two Porygon, he worries that Shen Qi might find him disturbing. Their seamless cooperation in a race reassures him, but he still seeks explicit confirmation that his Trainer accepts him 221.
Both siblings love beverages and insist on receiving separate servings despite sharing one body. Left unsupervised, Dodo readily overindulges in soda, juice, cocktails, or honey water. His apologies are sincere, but Shen Qi expects the habit to recur 504 505 572 600.
Abilities & Skills
Two-Soul Constitution
Dodo’s siblings retain their own wills, levels, move pools, and Abilities within one shared body 145.
- Elder Sister: A special attacker with Tri Attack, Hyper Beam, and Shadow Ball 191.
- Younger Brother: A tactical support specialist using moves such as Magic Coat, Thunder Wave, and Protect 191.
- Mental support: The inactive sibling improves mental performance, including Special Attack, Special Defense, concentration, and move stability. Their natural support does not add bonuses to physical Attack, Defense, or HP 145 175.
- Internal switching: Changing the active soul provides access to another combat setup without an ordinary Pokémon switch that an opponent could intercept 401.
- Alternating rest: One sibling can remain on watch while the other sleeps, provided their shared body is not exhausted 314.
- Different comfort zones: Younger Brother usually takes the outside role in unfamiliar environments; Elder Sister emerges in places they consider safe 191.
Digital Processing and Electronic Access
Dodo can become data, enter electronic storage, and analyze computer systems 191 202.
- Repairs a vending-machine software fault and operates old computer equipment 143 149.
- Restores blurred video, though missing source detail limits the result 230.
- Inspects Little Sheep’s onboard computer and identifies its variable valve lift mechanism 336.
- Needs approximately 4 TB of storage to remain inside a device without damaging it; an undersized phone risks chip failure within ten-odd seconds 202 206.
- Learns efficiently from Technical Machines and can help other Pokémon use them 303 495.
- Uses computing power to assess his condition and refine scientific training methods 635.
Magnet Rise
Both siblings know Magnet Rise, using it for object manipulation, transport, and racing maneuvers 142 147.
- Carries money and drinks without using Confusion 142 631.
- Lifts racing cars over corners and adjusts their orientation in midair 172 175.
- Reduces jolting when Shen Qi carries a girl with a fractured leg 292.
- Briefly lifts a car during tire slip to reduce wear and preserve steering control 298.
- Remains subject to race restrictions: keeping Flower Crown airborne beyond the permitted duration results in a penalty 718.
Download and Trace
The siblings possess different innate Abilities 196.
- Download — Younger Brother: Raises Attack or Special Attack according to nearby opponents’ defensive stats. When connected to a racing Skill Slot, its boost increases the car’s horsepower and torque 196 420.
- Trace — Elder Sister: Randomly copies another Pokémon’s Ability. Documented results include Leaf Guard, Motor Drive, Serene Grace, and Snow Cloak 233 273.
- Trace limitations: The source Pokémon must be within range, and maintaining a copied Ability requires mental effort 233 346.
- Allied targets: Trace can copy a teammate’s Ability, as demonstrated with Chansey’s Serene Grace 273.
Conversion and Type Manipulation
Dodo changes typing to exploit terrain or resist incoming attacks 346 371 521.
- Conversion: Supports an Electric-type transformation for Thunderbolt and Max Lightning 521.
- Conversion 2: Randomly selects a type resistant or immune to a move that has affected the user. Repeated attempts may be needed to obtain the desired result 346.
- Weather protection: Becoming Ice-type prevents Hail damage even when relevant Pokémon are outside Trace’s range 346.
- Trainer-assisted application: Shen Qi packages Conversion 2 through Alliance Attack to change Lilligant into Water-type against Dewgong 374.
- Combined typing: Normal/Ghost greatly reduces Dodo’s vulnerability to Fighting-type attacks and allows him to ignore Mega Gengar’s Shadow Tag 530 531.
- Limitation: Changing type does not automatically grant familiarity with handling that type’s energy 371.
Offensive and Defensive Moves
- Tri Attack: Elder Sister’s signature attack; has 80 power and can inflict burn, paralysis, or freezing. Safeguard prevents its status effects 145 374.
- Shadow Ball: Used repeatedly against Gallade in close-range exchanges 530.
- Recover: Restores Barrier Points during regulated combat 530.
- Thunder Wave and Protect: Disrupt enemies and protect teammates, including Lilligant 314.
- Agility: Raises Speed, but can conflict with another speed-enhancing effect when the team has not sufficiently practiced the combination 149 298.
- Secret Power: Used with Lisia’s Quagsire to open a stone Secret Base after an avalanche 431.
- Toxic: Newly learned before the battle with Ni Shang; Shen Qi judges it insufficient to overcome the large level gap by itself 527.
Dynamax
Dodo learns Dynamax by dividing the analytical work between both siblings 501 502.
- Durability: Initial successful Dynamax increases current and maximum HP by approximately 50% 520.
- Max Strike: Converts Tri Attack into a 130-power attack that slows opponents, replacing Tri Attack’s random status effects 521.
- Max Lightning: Establishes Electric Terrain, increasing Electric-type power by 30% and preventing grounded Pokémon from becoming drowsy or falling asleep 521.
- Mobility limits: Increased size brings increased weight and reduced agility; unstable snow makes the transformation particularly risky 521 546.
- Compact form: Despite acquiring an early skill entry, Dodo cannot yet use the advanced form that retains a manageable physical size 502 521.
- Training value: Continued Dynamax practice increases training load and develops more demanding applications of type energy 656.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- 5 TB external hard drive and data cable — Provides enough storage for Dodo to assist from inside racing equipment 206.
- Upgrade — Consumed during the first partial evolution 191.
- Dubious Disc — Evolves Elder Sister into Porygon-Z 689.
- Eviolite — Dodo’s usual held item. Keeping Younger Brother at Porygon2 allows Dodo to retain its defensive benefit even after Elder Sister evolves 619 633.
- Silk Scarf — Prepared as an alternative to strengthen Normal-type attacks during the Ultra Beast crisis 619.
- Normal-type Dynamax Crystal — Assists with sensing and training Dynamax Infinity Energy 500.
- Type Potential and Soul Resonance — Shen Qi’s Game Items exploit Dodo’s two-soul constitution to adjust typing, strengthen stats, and exchange Abilities 439 468 637.
Relationships
- Shen Qi — Current Trainer and a central source of security. Accepts both souls, helps Dodo rebuild trust, and accompanies him when he confronts his past 191 221 627 632.
- Professor Akihabara — Creator and former Trainer. Saved both Porygon by combining their damaged forms, named them Dodo, and remains an important emotional influence 212 632.
- Elder Sister and Younger Brother — Distinct siblings sharing one body. Cooperate in protection, training, and battle, but still insist on separate drinks 191 502 504.
