History of the Title
Self-Styled Eastern Emperor
Taiyi adopted “Eastern Emperor” before becoming an emperor. The designation offended Heavenly Prides from numerous factions, but his victories gave it substance: he challenged the gathered heroes of the Ancient City of Zi Tiandu and easily overpowered young heirs of holy lands and aristocratic families 113.
Accounts of his rise connected the name with his victories over the Central Region’s successors and his emergence as the new Yaoguang Holy Son. Ye Fan and Pang Bo congratulated him after hearing that he had defeated the former Holy Son and secured the position 172.
The title placed him among the era’s regionally identified young rivals, alongside Northern Emperor Wang Teng, Southern Demon Qi Lin, Western Bodhisattva Jue Youqing, and Central Emperor Xiang Yufei 200. His confrontation with Wang Teng was publicized as Eastern Emperor against Northern Emperor, attracting spectators from across the regions 300 305.
Taiyi decisively defeated Wang Teng and seized his Golden Ancient War Chariot, Heavenly Emperor Sword, and Chaotic Ancient Emperor Talisman. He refused to return them, arguing that Wang Teng had intended to seize his own Chaos Great Halberd 315 317 318.
From Epithet to Imperial Designation
After becoming a Saint, Taiyi’s destruction of the Golden Clan and killing of a Great Saint transformed his standing. He was no longer treated merely as a promising successor; news of his achievements shook the Five Regions and alarmed Ancient Emperor’s Children and rival powers 509 514.
His eventual Dao attainment fulfilled the title literally. Although Gai Jiuyou had become an emperor first, Taiyi broke through the suppression of the myriad Daos and became a Great Emperor himself 691. Friends later congratulated him on becoming “the Eastern Emperor in every sense of the name” 713.
He immediately asserted that authority against the Life Forbidden Zones. At the Undying Mountain, he demanded that its Supremes leave so he could claim it as his Daoist grounds; he subsequently slew Stone Emperor and another Supreme after their Ultimate Sublimation 692 695.
Heavenly Emperor and Founder of the Heavenly Court
Taiyi’s reputation continued beyond ordinary imperial standing. After his second lifetime began, Gai Jiuyou declared that he truly deserved to be called the Heavenly Emperor 779.
He offered an alternative route to longevity by opening the unfinished Small Immortal Domain within the smaller bronze coffin. Beings who achieved alternative Dao attainment could enter, and several ancient emperors abandoned their attempts to reach the true Immortal Domain in favor of bringing their children into his refuge 770.
Taiyi later formally established the Heavenly Court and opened an immortal divine realm above the myriad Daos. He appointed his faith incarnation, Hao Tian, as Jade Emperor Great Heavenly Venerable to preside over the court 813 814.
Primary and Secondary Selves
The name eventually referred publicly to a secondary self while Taiyi’s primary self cultivated in concealment. Both shared his talent, but the primary self possessed most of his primordial spirit and had reached Quasi-Immortal Emperor before the publicly active self’s breakthrough 908.
Their research was linked: the Great Luo Eternal Freedom Technique emerged through the resonance and fusion of Emperor Techniques developed by both selves. This arrangement was revealed alongside Taiyi’s true breakthrough into the Immortal Emperor domain 908.

- Developed separate Physical Body and Primordial Spirit paths: one pursued bodily Dao attainment through strength, while the other pursued an immortal primordial spirit and mastery through laws 776.
- Continued refining both paths with the Primordial True Explanation, Indestructible Scripture, Immortal Phoenix Art, and other collected teachings 801.
- Unified his systems and arts in the Great Luo Eternal Freedom Technique, capable of comprehending and refining the myriad Daos 889.

- Developed Boundless Bodies of the Three Ages: Past, Present, and Future Bodies with Quasi-Immortal Emperor strength. They could revive unless all three were destroyed together 889.
- Sent his Past and Future Bodies into the River of Time, placing them beyond ordinary attempts to alter his past or erase his existence 889.
