The Myriad Spirits Codex could do this too?
Su Ping had never imagined it!
Yet even with the composure he had gained over two lifetimes, the hand gripping the ancient book trembled slightly from the force of his grip.
Perfect the Magic Potion formula!
Almost without thinking, Su Ping selected confirm in the prompt from the Myriad Spirits Codex!
Clearly, the Forest Wolf Record's experience points were important too.
Each increase in its level could also grant Su Ping, the owner of the codex, unimaginable rewards.
For instance, activating it had granted him the Beast Tamer talent: True Eye.
But he could earn Record experience by spending time with Forest Wolves, raising them, evolving them, and even discovering mutants like Xiao Qing.
Woodheart, however, was the main legacy of his family's breeding base. Its effect on Forest Wolves could be nothing short of transformative.
In an instant, Su Ping saw the activated Forest Wolf Record dim considerably. More than half of it had previously glowed with white light.
The next moment, a blank entry beneath the Forest Wolf Record changed.
It was the entry labeled "Known evolution paths, special cultivation."
Previously, this entry had been blank. Now, a new line appeared:
["Woodheart" Potion preparation: After a Forest Wolf takes it, it can awaken the rare skill "Woodheart." Other effects on level advancement are unknown. Preparation method follows...]
Watching the change in the Forest Wolf Record, Su Ping let out a long breath. His eyes shone with anticipation and excitement.
Indeed, this time, the description in the Forest Wolf Record no longer mentioned a probability of awakening the skill "Woodheart" through the Woodheart Potion.
What that meant needed no explanation.
What gave Su Ping a bit of a headache, however, was the formula perfected by the Myriad Spirits Codex.
The formula now contained an additional ingredient.
It was not that this extra ingredient was particularly expensive.
Although his dad was unreliable, their breeding base was so large, and they did not have to pay rent. They had probably managed to save a little over the years.
Granted, those savings had not mainly come from breeding outstanding Forest Wolves and selling them for high prices. They had simply rented out another large stretch of vacant land adjoining their breeding base to the Cloudsky Pet Beast Battle Resort next door.
The reason Su Ping looked troubled was the particular ingredient added to the perfected formula.
It was called "wolf smoke grass."
At first hearing, it sounded as though it might have something to do with Forest Wolves, but in fact, there was no connection.
It was simply because, once ignited, the stuff produced thick smoke like a burning beacon. And as for the smell...
Worse still, the stuff was everywhere. In some places, it covered entire mountainsides.
Fire-type pet beasts or Beast Tamers would sometimes disregard the law and hold pet beast battles in mountain forests, setting off wildfires.
When firefighters from the Security Bureau went to put out those fires, their most important precaution was protecting the beasts under their command from wolf smoke grass.
Throughout the Dragon Nation's history, there had been multiple cases of water-type beasts being choked or suffocated to death by the towering clouds of foul smoke from wolf smoke grass while fighting fires, especially wildfires.
At that thought, Su Ping silently mourned those adorable beast heroes who had died extinguishing forest fires and protecting wild pet beasts caught in them. He also condemned the Beast Tamers who recklessly held battles with fire-type pet beasts in mountain forests.
Wolf smoke grass was utterly useless, its smell was overpowering, and the smoke it released when burned could easily cause hallucinations.
As a result, it had a poor reputation, and nobody had discovered any other use for it. Of course, perhaps someone knew of one and had simply never made it public.
Su Ping therefore had a few doubts about whether wolf smoke grass could really perfect the Woodheart Potion.
Still, trusting his cheat and the undeniable reality of his True Eye, Su Ping chose to believe it.
Full of excitement, he hurried to the entrance of another building in the base.
The potion workshop.
This was the most heavily monitored place in the entire Woodheart Breeding Base.
After all, the resources needed for Magic Potions were extremely precious, and the equipment used to make them was even more expensive.
It was also somewhere his dad had strictly forbidden him from approaching before he came of age.
But now...
Just as he was about to step into the workshop, an enormous shadow suddenly appeared behind him.
Xiao Qing immediately tensed in his arms.
Su Ping whipped his head around. The next instant, a huge dark shape knocked him flat onto the soft grass.
A warm, wet sensation immediately spread across his cheek.
Caught between laughter and tears, Su Ping looked at the gray-green giant wolf sprawled on top of him, licking him enthusiastically in affection, and hurriedly said:
"All right, all right..."
Struggling to his feet, Su Ping looked at Old Sha and wiped the saliva off his face. Only then did he rub the soft fur beneath the jaw of the giant wolf, who stood no shorter than he did, and ask:
"Old Sha, nothing unexpected happened in the two days since my dad left, right? The little ones are all okay?"
"Awooo..."
The giant Forest Wolf named Old Sha shook their head.
Old Sha was a Forest Wolf his grandfather had raised. Strictly speaking, they belonged to the same generation as his dad.
Although Old Sha had never formed a soul contract with either his grandfather or his dad, after all these years, they were one of the Su Family's closest family members.
As pet beasts grew stronger, their intelligence increased accordingly.
Old Sha was clearly no exception.
They were the only Forest Wolf in the Wood Heart Pet Beast Breeding Base to have broken through their species limit and reached commander rank.
Over all these years, they had also been the sole Wolf King of the Forest Wolves in the Wood Heart Pet Beast Breeding Base.
Only with Old Sha around would those mischievous, lazy Forest Wolves behave themselves.
This was also the main reason Su Anyong had been able to save money all these years by managing everything alone rather than hiring anyone else to look after them.
Looking at Old Sha, Su Ping activated his True Eye.
Old Sha could sense Su Ping using an ability on them, but offered no resistance at all.
It was precisely this trust that allowed Su Ping to see some of Old Sha's abilities:
[Forest Wolf (wild)] [Current level: commander rank, tier one] [Species potential: elite tier ten] [Skills: Sunlight Absorption (perfection), Tree Vine Strangulation (mastery), Self-healing (proficiency), Accelerated Growth (mastery), Wolf King's Majesty (beginner)]
Old Sha's panel was relatively normal. Their skill training levels were fairly unremarkable, except for Sunlight Absorption, which had actually reached perfection.
Clearly, Old Sha's ability to break through their species limit had something to do with that perfected Sunlight Absorption and their status as Wolf King. They must also have encountered an opportunity of their own in their younger years.
Before Su Ping could think any further, however...
A new notification appeared in the log of the Forest Wolf Record within the Myriad Spirits Codex:
[Discovered and made contact with a Forest Wolf that has exceeded its species potential limit. Affinity meets the requirement. Record level experience +100!] [This Forest Wolf is a powerful individual. Each subsequent day spent with them grants Forest Wolf Record experience +2!]
Su Ping froze for a moment, then smiled. Sure enough, returning to Woodheart to inherit the family business had been an absolutely right decision.
