Soul Rings and Advancement

Standard acquisition

Soul Masters traditionally advance by killing Soul Beasts and absorbing the Soul Rings left behind. A Soul Ring is drawn to the wielder's Martial Soul and absorbed through meditation and Soul Power circulation. 16 297

• Soul Ring age must be compatible with the Soul Master's body, Martial Soul, and cultivation; attempting to absorb an overly old ring is dangerous. 17
• Spirit Hall records list 432 years as the highest recorded first-ring absorption, but this is not considered an absolute limit. 17
• A Soul Master with a powerful beast Martial Soul and substantial training may theoretically withstand a first ring of roughly five hundred years. 17

Soul Skills

Soul Rings grant Soul Skills, whose effects depend on the Soul Beast absorbed and compatibility with the Martial Soul. 17 39

Spirit Hall services

Spirit Hall performs several foundational functions for the Soul Master world.

• It oversees Martial Soul awakenings, including awakenings for commoners. 223
• Registered low-level Soul Masters can receive a monthly subsidy; Wang Sheng receives one Gold Soul Coin per month after registering at a Spirit Hall branch. 118 122
• Spirit Hall suppresses Evil and Fallen Soul Masters and maintains order by limiting destructive Soul Master conflicts in populated areas. 223

Social standing

Soul Masters generally occupy a privileged position over ordinary people.

• Even becoming a low-level Soul Master is viewed by poor commoners as a route out of poverty. 118

Soul Controller System

The Soul Controller System is an alternative development path created by Su Mo. It transforms Soul Beasts into Soul Spirits, allowing them to replace Soul Rings rather than be killed for them. 344 496

Soul Spirit contracts

A Soul Beast is intended to become a Soul Spirit voluntarily, as it will remain the Soul Controller's companion after the ritual. 297

High-level absorption

Unlike ordinary Soul Rings, a Soul Spirit can regulate the Soul Power it releases, preventing it from violently damaging its contractor. 416

• Even a Soul Scholar can theoretically contract a Soul Beast with more than two hundred thousand years of cultivation, including one approaching nine hundred thousand years. 416
• If the Soul Spirit's cultivation greatly exceeds its contractor's, its controlled Soul Power can rapidly strengthen the contractor's body and raise their cultivation. 416
