Background / History
Yue Wen’s parents were professors at River City University. His father specialized in ancient history and explored ruins from the previous spiritual-energy era; his mother studied otherworldly writing systems. Their overlapping research led to numerous collaborations and a modest academic reputation 13.
Three years before the cemetery investigation, Yue Wen was traveling with his parents when an enormous black rift appeared in front of their car. During the crash, his father told him to safeguard a black card hidden in his graduation book and investigate it only after becoming strong enough. Yue Wen saw his parents leave the wrecked car and walk toward the rift’s black mist before losing consciousness 12.
During his six-month coma, he encountered Da Long and began cultivating through a method bought on credit. After awakening, he continued relying on the dragon’s treasury for techniques and artifacts, although he did not know the dragon’s motives or why they were connected 2 3.
He opened the inexpensive Yue Family Cultivation Office to support himself and, more importantly, obtain information about evil spirits. Slaying them supplied the Evil-Suppressing Money needed to purchase cultivation resources from Da Long. He postponed directly investigating his parents’ disappearance because he lacked the strength to pursue it safely 3.
Appearance
- Exceptionally handsome young man: Manager Chen initially finds his youthful appearance less reassuring than that of an experienced exorcist; Qi Dian also considers him markedly better-looking than himself 1 14.
- Silver bracelet on his right wrist: Actually his Flying Sword in a concealed form 1.
- Sunglasses during investigations and combat: Actually the Demon-Detecting Mirror 1 39.
- Promotional black T-shirt: During the livestream, he tears away an outer shirt to reveal an advertisement for his cultivation office 39.
Personality
Yue Wen presents himself as relaxed and reassuring, frequently telling clients to leave matters to him and rest easy. His apparent nonchalance can become comic at inappropriate moments: he explains his bracelet’s function while Manager Chen is being strangled and pauses before a livestream fight to advertise his office 1 39.
He is resourceful and highly pragmatic. He undercuts other agencies because supernatural earnings matter more to him than ordinary fees, preserves useful favors rather than demanding immediate payment, and turns a staged treasure hunt into an opportunity to farm Evil-Suppressing Money 4 14 40. His insistence on completing the cemetery commission impresses Old Huang and Qi Dian, though it also lets him continue harvesting spirits 3 8 9.
His caution extends to both combat and secrecy. He avoids needlessly antagonizing the Meow-Meow Cult, conceals his connection to Da Long, and refuses to take an obviously evil artifact that could expose him to criminal liability 3 6 11. He spares the weak cat demons because they have not committed crimes, but has no hesitation about killing an evil cultivator responsible for atrocities 11.
Abilities & Skills
True Dragon Method
His foundational cultivation method comes from Da Long rather than a contemporary immortal sect 3.
- Produces an unusually solid foundation, strong spiritual sense, and densely condensed true qi 11.
- Supports the complete fusion of essence, qi, and spirit at the peak of the Unity Realm 48.
- His planned advancement involves Chaos Dragon Astral Force. He acquires a visualization diagram on installments and begins searching for its required materials, but no Astral Realm breakthrough is documented 13 16 24 50.
Sword-Controlling Technique
Yue Wen remotely commands his Flying Sword through spiritual sense. The technique is fast and powerful, though he initially considers its limited variety a weakness 11 14.
- Remote attacks: Pierces a nightmare wraith, destroys Chen Hao’s divine marks, and kills demonic beasts with single strikes 1 33 40.
- Independent maneuvering: Moves separately from his sword to defend, evade, and counterattack 21.
- Body–sword unity: Turns his body into sword light to reach Chen Hao and knock him unconscious. Liu Yuanjun identifies this as a rare achievement among cultivators in the lower three realms 33.
- Sword-riding pursuit: Steps onto the sword to chase Big Muntjac through the forest 44.
- Control limits: An enemy attempts to sever his command by attacking his spiritual sense; moving closer to a restrained sword strengthens his control 11 21.
Wandering Dragon Hand
Purchased when his cultivation was still weak, this martial art combines adaptable footwork and unarmed combat 5 14.
- Knocks out the cat demons without resorting to lethal sword attacks 5.
- Uses kicks, deflections, and knife-hand strikes against gang enforcers 17.
- Provides evasive footwork while fighting the muntjac brothers at close range 48.
Thunderclap Art
A minor divine ability learned from the Riverside Gate’s visualization diagram, supplied by Qi Dian 12 14.
- Creates rolling thunder in his palm 14.
- Scatters Chen Hao’s Asura Hundred Ghosts in a single thunderclap 33.
- His version is substantially stronger than Qi Dian’s and can suppress yin entities rather than merely create a dramatic entrance effect 33.
Flash Technique
Another Riverside Gate ability, producing dazzling white light 12 14.
- Blinds all five tiger demons after he tricks them into watching him 20.
- Combines the distraction with sword attacks to kill Vest Tiger and Gold Chain Tiger 20.
- Requires precautions: he closes his own eyes beforehand, but the flash also blinds Zhao Xing’er 20.
Shadow-Shifting Talisman Art
Allows him to launch offensive Shadow Talismans and instantly shift to their positions within a limited range 35.
- Purchased with three talismans for 100 pieces of Evil-Suppressing Money 35.
- Practiced repeatedly in a visualization diagram before use in real combat 36 47.
- Enables evasions, repositioning, and coordinated sword attacks against the muntjac brothers 47 48.
- Activation hazard: Activating several talismans simultaneously can tear the user apart. Yue Wen initially uses only one because the demonstration frightens him 35 48.
- Predictable destination: Big Muntjac anticipates where he will appear and strikes him; trapping one talisman forces him to escape through another 47 48.
- Training restrictions: In its visualization trial, he cannot summon his sword or use true qi to remain airborne. Shifting to a falling talisman causes his simulated death, after which he awakens unharmed 36.
Curse-Breaking Method
Bought from Da Long to access messages carried by the purple demonic hide 13 14.
- Requires him to comprehend the Dao resonance of a visualization world resembling a purple sea filled with demonic shadows 28.
- Temporarily provokes violent and transgressive thoughts during contemplation 28.
- Reveals the Demon Emperor’s message linking the Snake Mountain Bronze Cauldron to entry into the Tiger Tomb 29.
Combat Tactics
- Disguise and ambush: Imitates an animated corpse to approach the evil cultivator before launching a close-range sword attack 9 10.
- Target prioritization: Eliminates weaker enemies first rather than gambling on an immediate kill against the strongest opponent 20 47.
- Sliding evasions: Slides beneath a tiger’s pounce and later beneath Chen Hao’s tiger divine mark 21 33.
- Combined reconnaissance: Uses the Demon-Detecting Mirror and Spirit-Searching Needle together to locate concentrated demonic activity 40 44.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Flying Sword Bracelet — Silver wrist ornament that transforms into a flying sword; can also be wielded by hand and release sword qi 1 5.
- Demon-Detecting Mirror — Sunglasses that reveal supernatural auras, origins, and estimated combat strength. It provides more information about weaker entities and cannot precisely measure Suit Tiger’s strength 1 4 19.
- Spirit-Searching Needle — Tracking artifact also called the Spirit-Tracking Needle; locates hidden supernatural targets and finds the purple hide beneath Zhang Wei’s wig 1 11 40.
- Three Shadow Talismans — Sharp, crescent-shaped artifacts used as weapons and destinations for the Shadow-Shifting Talisman Art 35 36.
- Black card — Crystal-like card entrusted to him by his father. Bears the snake-and-tiger emblem associated with Snake Mountain Tiger Tomb 12.
- Demon Emperor Hide — Torn purple-gold hide recovered from Zhang Wei’s corpse; bears the same emblem as the black card and carries a message across realm barriers 11 13 29.
- Half-skull of blackwater dragon-pattern gold — Loot from the evil cultivator, appraised at around 100,000 yuan. Treasure Forest declines to buy it because of possible demonic-sect connections 11 16.
- Qi-Blood Unity Pills — Cookie-like pills given to him by Old Bai; Yue Wen intends to inspect them before trusting the alchemist’s other medicine 25.
- Sumeru Jade — Jade token whose previous owner’s imprint he gradually erases with true qi; refinement is nearly complete by the return journey from the livestream 50.
- Electric scooter — Regular transportation between his office and local commissions 1 4 16.
Relationships
- Da Long / King Big Dragon — Secret supplier of methods, artifacts, and other cultivation resources. Accepts only Evil-Suppressing Money; Yue Wen treats it informally despite its demand to be addressed as “King” 3.
- His parents — Missing professors whose disappearance drives his cultivation. His father’s black card and research provide the central clues to his investigation 12 13.
- Zhao Xing’er — Assistant and combat partner. Her uncontrolled Martial Spirit Red Light can endanger him as well as enemies; he later learns she is a runaway from the Heavenly Capital’s Zhao Family 8 18 36.
- Qi Dian — Riverside Gate disciple who initially looks down on him. After Yue Wen saves his life, he apologizes, shares two techniques, and introduces him to the livestream opportunity 8 12 29.
- Perfected One Nagiko — Bureau representative who reports his license rejection and offers recruitment with access to classified information about his parents. Yue Wen declines 2.
- Old Huang — Cemetery caretaker and client who praises Yue Wen’s insistence on completing paid work 4 8.
- Black Meow, White Meow, and Orange Meow — Captured cat demons from the Meow-Meow Cult. They offer information about a spiritually powerful helicopter wreck in exchange for release 5 6.
- Guo Yang — Client seeking his missing son and unpaid workplace-injury compensation. Yue Wen agrees to accompany him to negotiations 15 16.
- Wang Shoucai — Confirms the Tiger Head Gang’s destruction as a major contribution, but warns Yue Wen about public order and possible revenge from Flame Ghost Hall’s Ahei Yan 22.
- Old Bai — Eccentric alchemist consulted for Blazing Flame Powder. Yue Wen finds the powder dangerously explosive and remains skeptical of his medicines 24 25.
- Liu Yuanjun and Li Flying Rosy Clouds — Mysterious Wind Temple disciples who thank him for saving her from Big Muntjac. Liu Yuanjun agrees to help locate grand unity mystic blazing cinnabar 44 50.

Early Commissions and Cemetery Investigation
- Destroys a nightmare wraith born from a century-old tree’s resentment, then takes Manager Chen for medical treatment 1 2.

Simulated Wasteland Zone Livestream

- Finishes without opening a single treasure chest, but earns 957,632.50 yuan in livestream revenue and advertises his own office throughout the event 50.
