Chapters 26–50 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 26Fierce battle with Moryo

Uchiha Douyang, Shisui, and Miroku fought Moryo inside Demon-Sealing Mountain while Miroku tried to seal it. Outside, Toroi decided to enter the cave despite the plan to leave Moryo's sealing to Douyang and Shisui.

  • Miroku began the sealing ritual, but Moryo broke free of Daikokuten's restraint and fought Shisui's Susanoo as the cave began to collapse.
  • Douyang pierced Moryo with Black Chakra Rods, weakening it, but Moryo used Soul Possession on Shisui and failed to control him.
  • Douyang sent Shisui to protect Miroku, then attacked Moryo with more Black Chakra Rods and used Sukunahikona to strike its eyes.
  • Outside Demon-Sealing Mountain, Toroi, Pakura, and Kakashi fought the terracotta puppets while worrying about the battle inside.
  • Toroi announced he would take people into the cave, claiming he had a special way to deal with Moryo, and Kakashi reluctantly agreed after Pakura raised no objection.

Ch. 27Toroi's intentions

The priestess sealed Moryo into a bottle, but Toroi arrived intending to take Moryo for Kumogakure and create a new jinchūriki. Shisui and Douyang fought back, and Douyang appeared behind Toroi as Toroi's magnetized shuriken sped toward the priestess.

  • The priestess bound Moryo with sealing chains, separated his soul from his body, and sealed his soul inside a black bottle.
  • Toroi arrived with three Cloud Ninja and announced that he intended to take Moryo for Kumogakure.
  • Douyang realized Kumogakure wanted a Moryo jinchūriki, while the exhausted priestess vowed to stop Toroi.
  • Douyang attacked Toroi using Sukunahikona, and Shisui charged with seven Body Flicker afterimages.

  • Douyang suddenly appeared behind Toroi.

Ch. 28A fragile alliance

Douyang and Shisui helped Miroku seal Moryo and defeated Toroi and the other Cloud Ninja, then concealed how the Kumogakure team had died. After the mission, the allied teams departed, but Kirigakure’s Juzo Biwa appeared to be targeting Team Kakashi, and Douyang warned Pakura that Sunagakure was unsafe for her.

  • Shisui killed Toroi and the other three Cloud Ninja after Douyang’s Kokugan helped turn the battle.

  • Douyang cautioned Pakura about trouble in Sunagakure, and she left with her team without answering.

Ch. 29Douyang: I like the way you look in priestess robes

Douyang spent over a month learning the Priestess Clan's Sealing Jutsu from Miroku while their relationship grew intimate, and he agreed to bring Shion to Konoha when she was old enough. After Kakashi's team completed their mission, Douyang finally left the Land of Demons with them, and they reached the Land of Grass.

  • Miroku taught Douyang Sealing Jutsu each evening, and their feelings for each other deepened as he quickly mastered the techniques.
  • Douyang asked whether his sealing power could restrain Moryo, and Miroku explained that her priestess power countered Moryo specifically.
  • Miroku asked Douyang to let Shion study at Konoha Ninja Academy, and he agreed to bring her there when she was old enough.
  • Kakashi and the others returned to the Priestess Temple after finding materials to seal Moryo's soul, and Kakashi suspected Douyang had seduced Miroku to learn her techniques.
  • At Kakashi's urging, Douyang said farewell to Miroku and traveled back toward Konoha with the team.
  • After three days on the road, Kakashi's team entered the Land of Grass.

Ch. 30Ambush on the way home

Kakashi, Shisui, and Douyang were ambushed on their way home by a joint force of Kirigakure and Iwagakure ninja. Douyang faced Juzo Biwa alone, who revealed that he wanted the squad's bounties, and vanished from Juzo's sight after shrinking with Sukunahikona.

  • Kakashi's memories of Obito and Rin resurfaced as the squad traveled through a forest, where Douyang spotted signs of a trap.

  • Shisui explained that Yan Luoya had packed his body with Explosive Tags and died in a self-detonation after Shisui blocked the blast with Susanoo.
  • An Iwagakure jonin and wandering ninja arrived, and Douyang told them Yan Luoya had been blown to pieces.

Ch. 32A dog from afar, a dog up close, Danzo on closer inspection

  • Danzō asked Douyang to examine his body, and Douyang noticed his right arm tremble before refusing to treat the Uchiha Clan’s sworn enemy.

Ch. 33Four Symbols Seal

Douyang rejected Danzo’s explanation about Itachi’s death and sought a way to increase his chakra by using the Ryūmyaku. He obtained permission to study the Four Symbols Seal, leaving the Hokage Building’s Scroll of Seals as a tempting target for his Kokugan.

  • Douyang refused to treat Danzo and ordered Yui to replace the chair Danzo had used.
  • Douyang considered ways to expand his chakra reserves and realized the Ryūmyaku might provide an ideal source of chakra that he could store in the Amber Purifying Pot.
  • Douyang decided to seek the Four Symbols Seal so he could try to undo the seal on the Ryūmyaku in Rōran.
  • Torifu Akimichi approved Douyang’s request and led him through the guarded Hokage Building to the secret chamber.
  • Torifu Akimichi copied the Four Symbols Seal onto a scroll and gave it to Douyang, who was told to return it in two months.

Ch. 34Undercurrents

  • Uchiha Douyang recalled that he would not support Uchiha Setsuna’s ambitions or let him destabilize the village and clan.
  • Uchiha Kazekawa intercepted Douyang on his way to meet Kurenai Yuhi and demanded that he come see Elder Setsuna.

  • Kazekawa attacked with the Great Fireball Technique and his sword, but Douyang dodged and parried while waiting for an opening.
  • Douyang struck Kazekawa’s wrist, caught his falling katana, and brought the blade to Kazekawa’s neck.

Ch. 36Kurenai Yuhi: What are you waiting for? Keep going

After spending the night with Kurenai Yuhi, Uchiha Douyang was urgently summoned to the Hokage Building, where Torifu Akimichi announced that Kirigakure had attacked the Land of Fire’s eastern border. Douyang suspected that Obito, who had infiltrated Kirigakure, had orchestrated the attack.

  • Kakashi told Douyang, Shisui, and Guy that Kumogakure had massed forces in the Land of Hot Water, and the team set out across the water to destroy the depot.
  • Suikazan Fuguki used Samehada to force Hyuga Hiashi to retreat on the eastern border battlefield.

Ch. 38The logistics supply depot

Kakashi and his team reached a heavily guarded Kirigakure supply depot on the former site of the Land of Whirlpools and prepared to destroy it. When Uchiha Douyang realized the enemy numbers made Kakashi’s plan likely to fail, he decided to intervene, and Shisui’s battle drew the Mist ninja’s attention.

  • At the border, Uchiha Fugaku used Susanoo to confront Utakata’s Six-Tails transformation, reassuring Hyuga Hiashi that Konoha could hold the line.
  • Kakashi, Uchiha Douyang, Guy, and Shisui arrived at the island and found sealing formulas concealing the number of defenders.
  • Kakashi ordered the others to draw enemy fire while he destroyed the depot, but Douyang urged him to leave the task to a stronger teammate; Kakashi insisted he could do it.
  • After nightfall, Douyang killed two Mist sentries and discovered that the island had between two and three hundred defenders.
  • When Shisui’s fighting caused a commotion and Mist ninja searched near Douyang, he threw three explosive-tag kunai, setting off a series of blasts.

Ch. 39Blown up

  • Shisui’s Susanoo vanished after exhausting his ocular power, while Sora Minazuki hid underground and prepared another attack.
  • Douyang helped Shisui leave, and Douyang noticed his data panel’s unlock progress had reached 10% and granted him a new ability.

Ch. 41Shinra Tensei

Douyang unlocked Shinra Tensei and used it to wipe out the Mist Ninja surrounding him and Shisui at the supply depot. Shisui carried the exhausted Douyang toward the Land of Waves, while another Mist Ninja force arrived to find the island flattened and its guards dead.

  • Sora Minazuki ambushed Douyang and Shisui with an ice dragon, leaving Douyang injured and Shisui unable to move.
  • Ganryū arrived with Mist Ninja reinforcements, recognized Douyang and Shisui, and ordered the Interrogation Department to be notified.
  • Douyang discovered Shinra Tensei on his stats panel and unleashed it, blasting the Mist Ninja and flattening much of the island.

  • Shisui carried Douyang away toward the Land of Waves, and a later Mist Ninja group arrived to find only their own dead among the ruins.

Ch. 42Holding position

After Team Kakashi destroyed Kirigakure’s supply depot, Douyang, Guy, Shisui, and the injured Kakashi recovered on an island while the enemy halted its advance. The chapter ended with Konoha’s commanders relieved by the pause, though Fugaku remained worried about Team Kakashi.

  • Douyang, Guy, and Shisui rested and ate on an island while Kakashi lay unconscious from his injuries, and Douyang considered his chakra limits and the Ryūmyaku.
  • The Fourth Raikage learned that Team Kakashi was suspected of killing Toroi and ordered Dodai to watch the front so Kumogakure could attack Konoha if Kirigakure broke through.
  • Utakata, Suikazan Fuguki, and Hozuki Mangetsu received the Fourth Mizukage’s order to hold position and suspected that a problem had arisen in Kirigakure’s rear.
  • Shikaku Nara told Uchiha Fugaku and Hyuga Hiashi that the Kirigakure army had stopped its attack, and Fugaku explained that Team Kakashi had destroyed its supplies.
  • Shikaku and Hiashi felt relieved by the enemy’s supply shortage, while Fugaku worried about whether Team Kakashi had survived its dangerous mission.

Ch. 43Hunting down the supply convoy

Kakashi's team decided to remain in the Land of Waves and harass Kirigakure, while the Mist Ninja identified the four-person unit responsible for destroying their supply point. As Hozuki Mangetsu set out to hunt them, Douyang attacked another Kirigakure supply convoy on an island.

  • Kakashi, Douyang, Shisui, and Guy agreed to stay in the Land of Waves and planned a covert route back to Konoha.
  • Utakata and the Kirigakure commanders learned that Konoha's four-person special operations team had destroyed a supply point and killed its defenders and reinforcements.

  • Hozuki Mangetsu volunteered to pursue the team, and Utakata warned him not to overexert himself.
  • Douyang emerged from underwater and charged a Mist Ninja supply convoy, while its squad leader attacked him with a short sword.

Ch. 44Obito appears

Douyang destroyed another Kirigakure supply point, while Obito appeared and decided the army should withdraw. Team Kakashi’s attacks continued to disrupt the Mist forces, but Douyang suspected Obito had killed his Shadow Clone and chose to keep the team hidden.

  • Douyang killed the Mist Ninja guarding a supply point, destroyed its supplies, and used a Shadow Clone to draw pursuers away from his retreat.
  • Hozuki Mangetsu arrived and ordered a search, but Obito killed Douyang’s Shadow Clone and discussed Kirigakure’s dwindling supplies with White Zetsu and Black Zetsu.
  • Obito decided Kirigakure’s army would withdraw, calling the campaign a test of Konoha and hinting that withdrawal was only the beginning.
  • Douyang, Guy, and Shisui reported destroying eight supply units between them, while Kakashi said he was nearly recovered; their attacks stalled Kirigakure’s army and gave Konoha time to reinforce its defenses.
  • Douyang noticed his Shadow Clone had vanished and suspected Obito had killed it, so he advised Team Kakashi to stay hidden while Kirigakure’s searches intensified.

Ch. 45The Mist Ninja withdrew

After Kirigakure withdrew, Konoha accepted its offer of peace talks, while Obito planned to use the negotiations to provoke conflict and undermine the Uchiha’s growing ties with the village. Douyang returned to Konoha and learned that Kumogakure had also pulled back its army.

  • Obito ordered White Zetsu to infiltrate Konoha and find a suitable Uchiha to help intensify conflict between the clan and the village.
  • Douyang reunited with Kurenai Yuhi and Uchiha Yui at the clinic, then heard from Kurenai that Kumogakure had withdrawn its army after the Mist Ninja retreated.

Ch. 46Douyang: If you're feeling unwell, a shot will fix it

  • Kurenai Yuhi agreed to help Douyang stay away from the village for up to two months, and Douyang secretly left that afternoon.
  • Three days into his journey, Douyang lured two bounty hunters into an ambush, defeated them, and killed them before continuing onward.
  • After a difficult journey, Douyang reached the oasis where the surviving people of Rōran lived and waited until night to approach their queen.
  • Douyang entered the Queen of Roran's tent and introduced himself as a ninja and businessman without revealing his identity.
  • Noticing that the Queen of Roran was gravely ill, Douyang gave her pills to ease her suffering, and she asked what business he had with her people.

Ch. 48Your Majesty, you wouldn't want anything to happen to your people, would you?

Douyang coerced the Queen of Roran into leading him to the Ryūmyaku, promising money for her people in exchange for her help. At the altar, he weakened one of Minato Namikaze’s seals, causing the berserk Ryūmyaku to batter the remaining seal as Douyang prepared to contain it with the Amber Purifying Pot.

  • Douyang threatened the Queen of Roran’s people until she agreed to reveal the Ryūmyaku’s location and help him suppress it in exchange for money.
  • The Queen of Roran led Douyang across the desert to the ruins of the Ancient City of Rōran after three days of travel.
  • At the altar, Douyang identified Minato Namikaze’s two sealing formulas and said he could undo only one.
  • Douyang released the Four Symbols Seal, weakening the seals by about sixty percent and allowing the Queen of Roran to sense the Ryūmyaku.
  • The berserk Ryūmyaku battered the remaining seal, and Douyang took out the Amber Purifying Pot despite the Queen of Roran’s warning.

Ch. 49Taking the Ryūmyaku

  • Douyang advised the Queen to leave the Land of Wind before Sunagakure came looking for her, and she agreed the danger was real.

Ch. 50Uchiha Kazekawa in the Crosshairs

Douyang arranged to move the people of Rōran to the Land of Rivers in exchange for the Ryūmyaku, while Sunagakure learned the Ryūmyaku had been stolen. Meanwhile, Obito chose Uchiha Kazekawa as a potential pawn and planned to target his girlfriend to awaken his Mangekyō Sharingan.

  • Douyang offered the Queen of Roran ten million for the Ryūmyaku and arranged to escort her people to the Land of Rivers.
  • The Queen of Roran led the caravan east while Douyang followed behind to watch for Sunagakure's pursuers.
