Background / History
Kenjaku has survived for roughly a thousand years by changing bodies, treating his previous vessels as temporary accommodations. During that time, he manipulated generations of jujutsu sorcerers and conducted experiments intended to push cursed energy beyond its existing limits 114 238 243.
His ultimate goal was to assimilate humanity with Tengen and create an entirely new form of life. The Culling Game formed part of his preparations, but the provided events show his planning rather than the game’s execution 238 239.
Kenjaku also appears in Choso’s memories from his confinement as a Cursed Womb. Choso remembers a stitched-forehead man examining their containers like finished products, and reacts with immediate hostility when Wangchuan identifies that man as Kenjaku 50.
Appearance
Kenjaku’s appearance changes with his vessel, while forehead stitches provide a recognizable clue to his identity 27 50.
- Early vessel: An ordinary face with a distinct line of stitches running from the hairline toward the space between the eyebrows 27.
- Geto’s vessel: Suguru Geto’s face, body, and hair, though Mei Mei recognizes that his cursed energy and manner of speaking are different 234 237.
- True body: Pink, grooved brain tissue with a mouth containing two rows of small teeth. It is exposed when Geto’s skull splits open during Wangchuan’s intervention 238.
Personality
Kenjaku usually presents himself as calm, courteous, and almost leisurely. His harmless smile conceals a calculating approach: he arranges dangerous encounters to collect information, avoids opponents he cannot assess, and prefers waiting over jeopardizing a thousand-year plan 27 33.
His cooperation with the curses is transactional. He does not regard them as companions, and Jogo openly distrusts him. Kenjaku privately considers absorbing Mu Xi for her technique, while his resurrection scheme treats human lives as expendable bargaining material 234.
Curiosity ultimately outweighs even his fear of death. Initially terrified by Wangchuan’s overwhelming power, Kenjaku later becomes ecstatic at seeing an existence beyond the jujutsu system. He dismisses his own millennium of experiments as childish beside that discovery and dies still smiling 239 243.
Abilities & Skills
Body Transfer and Longevity
Kenjaku has changed bodies countless times over a thousand years; his true body is the brain housed inside his current vessel 114 238.
- Selects vessels according to their usefulness to his plans 114.
- Specifically seeks Geto’s body for Cursed Spirit Manipulation 33 114.
- His longevity does not protect him from destruction of his brain, which Wangchuan ultimately reduces to ash 243.
Cursed Spirit Manipulation
Through Geto’s body, Kenjaku commands subdued cursed spirits and makes use of their individual powers 114 237 238.
- Deploys two Special Grade Cursed Spirits against Mei Mei, then escalates to a vast swarm 237 238.
- Conceals a speed-specialist Special Grade as a compressed seed among his forces, positioning it to attack Ui Ui before Teleportation activates 238.
- Considers absorbing Mu Xi to exploit her equivalent-exchange technique against Gojo 234.
- Cannot safely absorb a resisting Mu Xi without first weakening her; he also fears her technique’s backlash could kill him 234.
Domain Expansion: Womb Profusion
Womb Profusion is an open domain that overlays reality without a closed boundary. Kenjaku regards it as the culmination of a thousand years of work and experimentation 242.
- Activates it alongside Jogo, Dagon, and Mu Xi’s domains as a final attempt to resist Wangchuan 241 242.
- Is overwhelmed by Wangchuan’s Heavenly Punishment Thunder Burial Prison 242.
- Kenjaku suffers cursed technique burnout afterward 243.
Strategy and Jujutsu Analysis
Kenjaku combines extensive experience with reconnaissance, advance preparation, and cautious threat assessment 27 33 50.
- Arranges an ambush to test Wangchuan because instant-kill battle records reveal little about his technique or limits 27.
- Recognizes that Wangchuan’s apparently modest crater conceals concentrated inward force and deep geological compression 33.
- Receives information relayed by Jujutsu High’s higher-ups 33.
- Researches Ui Ui’s Teleportation and prepares a counter before confronting Mei Mei 238.
- Recommends sealing Gojo and Wangchuan rather than fighting them directly 55.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Prison Realm — A Special Grade Cursed Object central to his sealing plans. Wangchuan sends Choso to investigate it as a precaution against Gojo being sealed 50 234.
- Mirror of the Imaginary — A Special Grade Cursed Tool originally purchased by Geto and later held by Kenjaku. Jogo identifies Kenjaku’s possession of the tool as a reason their alliance remains necessary 19 234.
- Sukuna’s Fingers — Collects and conceals them across different bases. When questioned by Wangchuan, he has none on his person and reveals that Jogo holds six 50 240.
Relationships
- Wangchuan — An unpredictable threat who repeatedly disrupts his plans. Kenjaku’s initial caution develops into terror, then fascination with Wangchuan’s existence beyond jujutsu. Wangchuan kills him 27 234 239 243.
- Suguru Geto — Desired vessel rather than partner. Kenjaku waits for the opportunity to steal his corpse, praising Cursed Spirit Manipulation as the technique his plans require 33 114.
- Jogo — Distrustful ally. Kenjaku repeatedly warns him against confronting Gojo or Wangchuan, but Jogo does not consistently heed the advice 55 102 234.
- Mu Xi — Ally whose resurrection technique he covets. He considers absorbing her but postpones the attempt because of its risks 102 234.
- Mahito — A crucial component of his plan. After Mahito’s death, Kenjaku prioritizes resurrecting him before sealing Gojo or Wangchuan 226 234.
- Choso — Recognizes Kenjaku from memories of his Cursed Womb confinement and calls him a “bastard.” Wangchuan assigns Choso to approach him covertly 50.
- Satoru Gojo — A major obstacle whom Kenjaku intends to seal; he also considers whether Mu Xi’s technique could provide a way to kill him 55 234.
- Tengen — Central to his proposed assimilation of humanity and creation of a new life-form 239.
- Mei Mei and Ui Ui — Targets of a prepared ambush. Mei Mei destroys his first two Special Grades, and Wangchuan interrupts his attempt to prevent their escape 237 238.
- Tsumiki Fushiguro — Kenjaku is identified as the hidden mastermind behind her coma, beneath the apparent Yasohachi Bridge curse 229.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Testing Wangchuan
Kenjaku observes Wangchuan’s group on Mount Yoshida with Jogo after arranging an ambush to measure Wangchuan’s abilities. He leaves before a direct encounter, recognizing that Wangchuan may be as troublesome as the Six Eyes 27.
After inspecting the resulting crater and receiving reports that Wangchuan defeated three Special Grades in one move, Kenjaku concludes that he may be even harder to handle than Gojo. Nevertheless, he retains his central objective: obtaining Geto’s body 33.
Obtaining Geto’s Body
After Huojin’s death, Kenjaku learns that Mu Xi can resurrect him through an exchange of lives and takes a private interest in her technique 102.
He later infiltrates the Time Vessel Association at night and removes Geto’s well-preserved corpse from its coffin. Nanako and Mimiko discover the theft afterward 114.
Resurrection Scheme
Following Wangchuan’s return and the deaths of Mahito, Suishi, and Hanami, Mu Xi sets their combined resurrection price at forty thousand human lives. Kenjaku recommends waiting until Wangchuan leaves Jujutsu High, but agrees to find a suitable city when the curses insist on acting immediately 234.
He lures Mei Mei into an ambush to use her as a sacrifice. Her Eternal Night Raven Coffin destroys his two initial Special Grades, prompting him to deploy a larger army and a concealed attacker aimed at Ui Ui 237 238.
Final Confrontation and Death
Wangchuan destroys the cursed spirit army with lightning and immobilizes Kenjaku. Offered freedom if he can provide amusement, Kenjaku admits that he cannot and accepts death. Mei Mei interrupts the killing blow by reminding Wangchuan that he is using Geto’s body 238 239.
Temporarily spared, Kenjaku reveals the location of Sukuna’s Fingers. Wangchuan then brings Jogo, Huojin, Mu Xi, and Dagon to the street. After Huojin is swallowed by Jormungandr, Kenjaku joins the survivors in a simultaneous domain expansion, despite acknowledging their near-certain defeat 240 241.
Wangchuan overwhelms their domains. Amid the lightning, Kenjaku celebrates him as the transcendence he had sought for a thousand years. Wangchuan’s lightning serpent then pierces and destroys his brain; his final regret is that he never released the unidentified “those guys” 242 243.
