Background

Chu Kun is a descendant of the Suzhou Chu Clan and the grand-nephew of Chu Yu. Yuan Mobai had formed a karmic connection with Chu Kun when the latter was born, through an earlier encounter with Chu Kun's family. Chu Yu therefore brought him to Dragon Tiger Mountain in hopes that Yuan Mobai would accept him as a disciple. 58 90

He arrived at Dragon Tiger Mountain amid the crisis surrounding the Celestial Master Mansion, a decision that publicly signaled support from at least part of the Chu Clan. He entered the Dao Child Courtyard, followed its rules, and awaited formal ordination; Yuan Mobai's earlier guidance made his eventual admission as a disciple all but assured. 84

Although he initially considered his talent unremarkable among the Chu Clan's and Dragon Tiger Mountain's many geniuses, Chu Kun cultivated rapidly. Within roughly six years of formal initiation, he had crossed two Heavenly Chasm Tribulations and reached the Third Heaven Altar Realm. 90 170

Appearance

Chu Kun first appears as a delicate-featured youth of roughly thirteen or fourteen, with a scholarly air. He later grows noticeably taller during his cultivation at Dragon Tiger Mountain. 84 138

  • Wore the Deep Red Taoist Robe after receiving Talisman Conferral. 194
  • Later appears among the Celestial Master Mansion's Purple-Robed High Merit Elders. 354
  • His cultivation often manifests as flowing or concentrated starlight. 400

Personality

Chu Kun is consistently modest about his abilities, readily crediting fortune, his master, and his senior brothers rather than his own talent. He recognizes Lei Jun's superiority while still actively seeking discussions on talisman innovation and cultivation. 108 201

He is notably cautious. He keeps his unusual connection to other worlds private for years, treats changes in Da Ju and the Abyss of Time as matters to observe before acting upon, and prefers thorough preparation before attempting major breakthroughs. 90 449 504

His upbringing in the Chu Clan gives him a sharp eye for political undercurrents. He is willing to voice suspicions about noble clans and major events, though he understands the danger of speaking too openly. 138

Abilities & Skills

Constellation Saint Body and Heavenly River Immortal Body

Chu Kun's original Constellation Saint Body grants exceptional multitasking ability. Following a postnatal opportunity, its divine essence manifests as the Heavenly River Immortal Body. 201 400

  • Can activate multiple Spirit Talismans simultaneously at cultivation levels where most Talisman School cultivators can only use one at a time. 201
  • Provides the foundation for his constellation-based talismans and densely layered spellcasting. 201 308
  • His Heavenly River Immortal Body altered both the Life Star God and Chen Yang Mid-Heaven Dharma Talismans into forms unique to him. 449

Natal Talismans

Chu Kun follows Yuan Mobai's Life Cultivation-oriented foundation while adapting it to a talisman-heavy combat style. 308 530

  • Spirit Invocation Talisman → Battle General Talisman — enhances his physical body and blood qi with the bearing of a star general. 308
  • Wind Riding Talisman → Heavenly Wind Talisman — supplies mobility and complements his close-quarters foundation. 308
  • Star Constellation Talisman → Star River Talisman — his self-created third Natal Art; connects several talismans without merging them and allows simultaneous multi-talisman attacks. 201 308
  • Changing Stars Talisman — a defensive and evasive technique that shifts his trajectory; when paired with his starlight, it can deflect attacks that would otherwise overpower him. 308 316

Star River Combat Style

Despite the physical Life Cultivation basis of his first two Natal Talismans, Chu Kun fights primarily as a concentrated spellcaster.

  • Uses the Star River Talisman to create dense, area-saturating barrages of multiple talismans. 308
  • Defeated several Heavenly Principle cultivators, including Sixth Heaven opponents, during the battle at Great Green Bay. 308
  • His highest-output attacks consume substantial talisman materials, Magic Power, and mental energy. 201 308
  • Can compensate for the extreme expenditure with external spiritual resources, such as a Magic Power-restoring gemstone. 308

Dipper Mother Star God Dharma Image

Upon reaching the Seventh Heaven, Chu Kun chose the Life Cultivation Human Writing Talisman and manifested the Dipper Mother Star God Dharma Image, also called the Life Star God. 339 530

  • Greatly strengthens his body, mobility, and close-combat ability. 372 530
  • Serves as the central presence within his later Dao Scene. 530
  • Its development is influenced by the Heavenly River Immortal Body. 449

All Stars God and Bearing Heaven Star Lord

Chu Kun developed further Natal Dharma powers from his star-based cultivation and his understanding of Houtu's legacy.

  • All Stars God — combines the Dipper Mother Star God Dharma Image with the Heavenly Star Flame Ancestor Dharma Image, producing coordinated star-flame manifestations that can attack in melee and at range simultaneously. 548
  • Bearing Heaven Star Lord Dharma Image — formed from the Dipper Mother Kunyuan Dharma Talisman; an earth-aspected “Earth Star God” emphasizing solidity, bearing, and defense. 548
  • The Bearing Heaven Star Lord is a rarely revealed trump card derived partly from Chu Kun's study of Houtu's legacy. 548

Empyrean Divine Continent

Chu Kun's Great Vehicle Dao Scene is the Empyrean Divine Continent, a star-filled universe containing a central landmass.

  • Encloses opponents within a layered galaxy of stars and talismans. 530 548
  • Allows the Life Star God and All Stars Gods to coordinate attacks across the entire Dao Scene. 530 548
  • Captured Wo Jiehan and eventually killed him after restricting his movement within the Dao Scene. 548

Interworld Passage

By tapping his forehead, Chu Kun can pass through an invisible “door” to another world. He initially kept this ability secret, using it to exchange spiritual objects and cultivate. 90

  • His travels became connected to Da Ju, later allowing him to move between Da Ju, the Great Ming Human Realm, and other locations after periods of adjustment. 475
  • The connection changed over a sixty-year cycle and increasingly appeared tied to the Abyss of Time rather than Da Ju alone. 468 528
  • He uses caution around this power because its long-term consequences remain uncertain. 449 553

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Star Moon Lightless Banner — a refined Magical Treasure used in combat and concealment; Chu Kun avoids using it when secrecy is essential. 530 548
  • Nine Brilliance Kunyuan Cauldron — a Magical Treasure tied to his Houtu-derived insights; used to suppress and preserve dangerous Confucian ritual objects. 548
  • Five Elements Grand Elixir Sand — a rare treasure Chu Kun acquired and gave to Lei Jun; it can assist in crossing the Fourth-to-Fifth-Heaven Heavenly Chasm Tribulation. 124
  • Fetal Star Dust — gifted to Lei Jun, enabling the latter's cultivation of the Life Star God divine ability method. 247

Relationships

  • Yuan Mobai — Master. Their connection began through karmic ties involving Chu Kun's family; they later ascended to immortality in the same year. 58 566
  • Lei Jun — Second Senior Brother. Chu Kun frequently seeks his advice on talismans, receives protection and resources from him, and discusses the Abyss of Time and major cultivation principles with him. 123 201 528
  • Wang Guiyuan — Eldest Senior Brother. A trusted senior who helps prepare Chu Kun for training and joins Lei Jun in guiding him. 146 199
  • Chu Yu — Little Grand-Aunt. She brought him to Dragon Tiger Mountain and supports his place within Yuan Mobai's lineage. 58 146
  • Tang Xiaotang — Senior Sister and Celestial Master. Chu Kun has considered requesting her judgment on dangers surrounding his journeys. 238
  • Chen Lingfeng — Ally in suppressing a Confucian ritual ceremony after Chu Kun defeated Wo Jiehan. 548
  • Zhuo Baojie — Martial nephew. Chu Kun protects and fights alongside him during northern expeditions. 372

Story Role / Major Arcs

Entry into Dragon Tiger Mountain

Chu Kun joins the Celestial Master Mansion during a period of internal and external crisis. His admission under Yuan Mobai both fulfills an old karmic connection and carries political significance because of his Chu Clan background. 58 84

Rise as Yuan Mobai's Third Disciple

He advances from a Dao Child to Talisman Conferral Taoist and then High Merit Elder with unusual speed. His self-created Star Constellation Talisman establishes him as a distinctive talent rather than merely another Chu Clan scion studying at Dragon Tiger Mountain. 194 201 300

Heavenly Principle Conflict

Chu Kun begins gaining concrete battle experience in the Great Ming Human Realm. At Great Green Bay, he defeats Heavenly Principle cultivators before Lei Jun intervenes against the stronger Minister Wang. 308

Da Ju and the Abyss of Time

His private interworld passage draws Lei Jun into Da Ju, where Chu Kun has established Chong Guang Temple and a neutral cultivation territory among several states. As Da Ju changes, he gradually concludes that the deeper cause of his condition is likely the Abyss of Time. 475 528

Great Vehicle and Immortal Advancement

After forming the Empyrean Divine Continent, Chu Kun actively builds combat experience, defeats Wo Jiehan, and helps secure dangerous ritual materials for Lei Jun's examination. He later ascends alongside Yuan Mobai, strengthening the Celestial Master Mansion's immortal ranks. 548 566

Later Investigations

Chu Kun investigates the former Suzhou Chu Clan's links to Zheng Baiyu and the Abyss of Time, visiting Chu residences across multiple human worlds. His inquiries yield little initially, so he temporarily returns his focus to cultivation. 528

Trivia

  • Chu Kun initially hid his interworld travel even from his fellow disciples, using nighttime solitude in the Dao Child Courtyard to cross through his “door.” 90
  • He and Lei Jun share the same first two Natal Arts—Spirit Invocation and Wind Riding—but diverge through Chu Kun's constellation-based third Natal Art. 201
  • He declined consideration as a future Celestial Master candidate. 552
  • His ascension with Yuan Mobai became a celebrated story throughout the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths Great Thousand World. 579
