History
Guardianship and Earlier Rivalry
Qian Daoliu guarded Douluo Hall for nearly a century and presided over numerous Titled Douluo title-conferral ceremonies. Despite reaching rank 99, he had never qualified to trigger the Angel Nine Trials himself 52.
Before Tang Chen departed to pursue godhood, the two fought on the Clear Sky Sect’s mountain peak. Tang Chen gained a slight advantage, partly because his independently cultivated rank-99 foundation was deeper than Qian Daoliu’s. They agreed that Spirit Hall personnel could not set foot on that peak until Qian Daoliu defeated him 11.
Qian Xunji’s Death
Qian Daoliu knew that his son, Qian Xunji, had sexually assaulted Bibi Dong to keep her in Spirit Hall. He also knew that Bibi Dong later devoured Qian Xunji while he was recovering from injuries inflicted by Tang Hao. Nevertheless, he remained silent: he considered his son responsible for the original wrongdoing and could not condemn Bibi Dong with a clear conscience 6.
He also refrained from killing Bibi Dong because doing so would leave Qian Renxue without her mother. Instead, he allowed Bibi Dong to serve publicly as Pope while privately protecting his granddaughter 6.
Protecting Qian Renxue
When Bibi Dong threatened Qian Renxue in Pope Hall, Qian Daoliu intervened and placed himself between them. He defended his right to protect his granddaughter even while declining to involve himself in Spirit Hall’s ordinary administrative affairs. After Bibi Dong disowned her, he comforted Qian Renxue and eventually revealed the truth about her parents 4 5 6.
He subsequently escorted her to Sunset Forest, agreeing to remain hidden unless her training became life-threatening. Her extraordinary combat performance convinced him that the Angel God’s strongest successor had appeared. During the same expedition, she gave him the Nine-Grade Purple Ganoderma that began strengthening his cultivation foundation 7 8 11.
For her fifteenth birthday, he entrusted her with the Angel Set’s right arm bone. He also accepted her proposal to attempt an unusually old fifth soul ring and appointed Azure Luan Douluo as her escort while he entered seclusion 13 14.
Operation Against Tang Hao
Qian Renxue persuaded Qian Daoliu to confront Tang Hao by invoking Qian Xunji’s death. To avoid exposing Spirit Hall’s involvement and risking conflict with the Clear Sky Sect, he wore a bronze mask and suppressed his apparent cultivation to approximately rank 95 19.
He drew Tang Hao away from Holy Soul Village and fought him under a Tang Sect cover story. The diversion allowed Qian Renxue to recover Ah Yin’s Blue Silver Emperor body and hundred-thousand-year right leg bone 19.
Cultivation Reform and Angel Faith
After studying the six techniques Qian Renxue presented, Qian Daoliu agreed to adapt them for wider use. The proposal directly addressed his longstanding concern over declining faith in the Angel God 27 28.
He spent ten days simplifying five techniques, then ordered three days of internal trials before their distribution through Spirit Hall’s branch halls. The manuals credited Qian Renxue as their creator and instructed practitioners to believe in and pray to the Angel God. He withheld the hidden-weapon material for confidential research 36.
Within roughly two months, the techniques had reached major cities in both empires. Qian Daoliu defended Qian Renxue’s authorship against Bibi Dong’s objections and witnessed the resulting power of faith gathering around his granddaughter 43.
Angel Trials and Later Support
Qian Daoliu witnessed the opening of Qian Renxue’s Angel Nine Trials and kept vigil during her 108-day divine baptism. In the sixth trial, he served as her opponent under restrictions imposed by the Angel God. Cheng Ran, controlling Qian Renxue’s body, outmaneuvered and injured him until the allotted incense stick burned out 52 53 57 58.
He continued supporting her expeditions, arranging soul-ring escorts and joining the Consecrated Elders against the Scarlet King. When she later insisted on confronting Tang Hao alone, he accepted her decision but secretly dispatched Azure Luan and Guang Ling to follow her 65 69 87.
Qian Daoliu helped organize the Three-Year Pact’s venue and invitations, welcomed its guests, and formally announced the duel. During the battle, he joined the other elders in shielding spectators from spiritual attacks and destructive aftershocks 92 95 105.
Afterward, he refused to let uncertainty about Qian Renxue’s second martial soul alter his acceptance of her. When Cheng Ran later gained a physical body, Qian Daoliu noticed similarities between his mannerisms and Qian Renxue’s but chose not to question her 110 118.
Appearance
- Aged features: Described with wrinkles, aged eyes, and a beard 11 65 95.
- Hair: White-haired at his first intervention in Pope Hall; later described with neatly combed golden hair during the Three-Year Pact gathering 4 103.
- Formal clothing: Wears a new white-and-gold robe to receive the duel’s guests 103.
- Disguise: Uses a fitted gray-black outfit and a bronze mask exposing only his eyes during the operation against Tang Hao 19.
- Martial soul manifestation: Six enormous golden wings unfold behind him, accompanied by nine soul rings 57.
Personality
Qian Daoliu is deeply affectionate toward Qian Renxue, combining emotional reassurance with powerful protection. He comforts her after Bibi Dong’s rejection, watches over her soul-bone absorption, and repeatedly arranges escorts for dangerous journeys. His protectiveness does not entirely override her independence: he ultimately accepts several decisions he initially considers too dangerous 5 13 59 87.
He recognizes failures in his own judgment. After witnessing Qian Renxue’s rapid development, he accepts responsibility for allowing the Infiltration Plan to hold her back. He also apologizes for initially underestimating her gift of the Nine-Grade Purple Ganoderma 11 45.
His devotion to the Angel God coexists with political caution. He promotes accessible cultivation to restore faith, but retains advanced methods and hidden-weapon research as Spirit Hall’s strategic assets. He also takes his agreement with Tang Chen seriously enough to conceal his identity when confronting Tang Hao 19 28 36.
His imposing public dignity frequently gives way to comic vulnerability. Cheng Ran’s unconventional attacks leave him emotionally shaken, while Tang Chen’s final boast about Bo Saixi provokes an unusually profane outburst 58 65.
Abilities & Skills
Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul
His Angel Martial Soul manifests six golden wings and supports his rank-99 combat power 57.
- Flight: Uses his wings to maneuver and create distance in aerial combat 57.
- Oppressive aura: Pins a ten-thousand-year Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear to the ground through pressure alone 7.
- Demigod power: Releases demigod-level force during the sixth Angel Trial 58.
