By the time Lu Wen slowly made his way up from below, all he saw was a scene of devastation and a huge hole overhead.
And Hiro's furious complaints~
"I was only gone for a little while. What happened?" Lu Wen asked, despite knowing the answer.
"Where did you go, Lu Wen! You know, I almost took down the masked man just now! But..." Hiro stamped his foot in anger, but said no more.
"I went and wiped out his robot production line."
"Lu Wen, you know what? That masked man was Callaghan! I asked him why he didn't save Tadashi, and he actually said it was Tadashi's own fault! What a..."
Hiro didn't know how to describe him... but Lu Wen did!
"What an animal! Right? So you wanted to kill him, didn't you?" Hiro said nothing, but his eyes said it all.
Wasabi and the others thought he shouldn't do that and got into an argument with Hiro... as a result, Hiro flew off on Baymax and left him behind.
"So, what exactly were the four of you thinking, arguing with a furious fourteen-year-old kid on some godforsaken deserted island?"
Faced with Lu Wen's soul-searching question, the four exchanged awkward looks.
In the end, their young master Fred used his money superpower to get everyone back.
"Well~ you upset the kid, so you can go soothe him yourselves. Remember to call me the next time you take action." With that, Lu Wen headed straight to Cass's café without looking back.
The other four went to find Hiro in the garage on the back street.
"Where have you all been? You were gone for so long." When she saw Lu Wen return, Cass hurried over to ask after finishing with her customers.
"Oh~ I went to help your younger nephew avenge your older nephew."
"What!?!?"
Cass excitedly grabbed the doctor by his collar and shook him. "You're saying Tadashi has completely recovered!"
"Y-yes... ma'am, could you please calm down?"
The aging, balding doctor struggled free of the excited Cass, adjusted his glasses, then smoothed the two stubborn hairs on top of his head.
Just moments earlier, after Lu Wen told Cass what had happened, she had been so worried that she wanted to find Hiro. No amount of persuasion worked; she insisted on closing the café to check on him.
Lu Wen silently cursed himself for being so honest.
Just as Cass went upstairs to change and Lu Wen followed her, trying to talk her into calming down, they passed Tadashi's room on the second floor and met the eyes of Tadashi, who had just woken up.
With Tadashi still looking utterly confused, the two immediately took him to the hospital for an examination.
"So you're the helper that strange thing I saw before I passed out went to find?" Tadashi Hamada asked in confusion.
"That's right. Remember to make me a Baymax once you recover. I've been waiting here a long time for you to deliver my order."
Lu Wen sat by Tadashi's bedside, munching on an apple he had swiped from next door, while Cass went to collect Tadashi's test results.
Once the final results came out, if there were no problems, he could go home after a night of observation at the hospital.
Krei Tech's industrial park!
By the time Lu Wen swung over on his webs, the runaway portal had already swallowed more than half of this technology park that had cost who knew how much money.
"Looks like I made it in time."
Hiro and his group had already been engulfed in a sea of robots. There were simply too many.
"Didn't I tell you to call me when you took action!"
Just as Wasabi was about to be crushed flat, Lu Wen suddenly appeared and scattered the robots with a punch.
After rescuing one, Lu Wen shot a web at Fred and pulled him free of the robots' restraints.
After setting him down beside Wasabi, Lu Wen leaped toward GoGo, punched into the ball of robots, and hauled her out.
"I could've handled it!" GoGo looked at Lu Wen with haughty defiance.
"But I saved you before you handled it."
Lu Wen tossed the words over his shoulder without looking back, then ran toward Honey Lemon.
In midair, the robots formed spikes that stabbed at Honey Lemon's chemical gel ball. When Lu Wen arrived, his fists flew, scattering the robots raining down.
After beating back the Swarm Robots, Lu Wen smashed open the gel ball and freed Honey Lemon.
"Oh~ thank you so much." Once rescued, Honey Lemon came up and gave Lu Wen a big hug.
Though she could only reach around Lu Wen's waist~
"See that? That's how you should act after being rescued," Lu Wen called to GoGo nearby.
"Hmph~" GoGo tossed her head haughtily.
"Look, Hiro!" Honey Lemon cried, pointing toward Hiro.
Lu Wen looked up and saw Hiro about to be sucked away. He quickly fired a web to catch him, and Baymax, who was buried beneath the robots, noticed Hiro too.
Protection protocol triggered...
With a boom, Baymax broke through the blockade with his rocket fist, spread his mechanical wings, and flew toward Hiro, catching him securely.
After Hiro landed, he had no time to thank him and hurriedly explained the plan he had just come up with.
"Say, I've saved you twice, at least. How about giving me that mask?"
"Uh, if we can get it, sure." Hiro hesitated, but agreed.
"Good. Then let's move."
This time, with everyone agreed on the plan, they worked together for the first time!
Except Lu Wen.
He used the chaos to approach Ge Li, who was tied to the park's logo.
"Young boss, do you have anything you'd like to say about the trouble you've caused?"
Lu Wen crouched before Ge Li in his broad, two-meter-tall body and made Venom reveal that thunderous maw! The mouthful of stark white fangs gleamed chillingly before Ge Li's eyes...
"Don't! Don't eat me! I'll do anything you want! I'll agree to any demand!" Faced with a maw inches away that clearly could bite his head off in one go, Ge Li wet his pants in terror.
When Lu Wen caught the smell, he moved a little farther away in disgust, tore open the metal sheeting restraining Ge Li, then stuck a web to him and took him away from the center of the melee.
"Since you'll agree to anything, let's sign a contract." Lu Wen took out the contract and pen he had prepared long ago.
"What?"
The contract had only three demands: Ge Li would cover Tadashi's medical expenses and pay compensation for emotional distress; Ge Li would fund the Hamada brothers' future research; and Ge Li would hand over all the materials on the Silent Sparrow project to Lu Wen.
After briefly scanning the headings of the three conditions without reading their contents, Ge Li decisively signed.
As a businessman who would stop at nothing, he understood the immediate costs and benefits very well, so he did not hesitate in the slightest.
"Very good. A wise choice. I won't have to bite your head off, and I'll even help you save the remaining half of your industrial park."
"Thank you so very much." Ge Li forced a businesslike smile.
Lu Wen wasted no more words on him and took a great leap toward the Micro-Robots forming the pillars.
As he scattered the robots with a punch, he made Venom form a mass of tiny tendrils and weave them into a net, catching the scattered robots and sending them into System Space.
After waiting so long, he could finally reap a huge harvest!
A ready-made production line, robots, and a portal. He had waited so long for these very things! Everything was going according to plan.
Standing in midair, Callaghan had not realized at all that his robots were already gone.
"Our programming doesn't allow us to harm humans, but this is confiscated!" Baymax extended two fingers and gently removed Callaghan's mask.
"Lu Wen, catch!" Hiro shouted, and Baymax obligingly threw the mask in his hand toward Lu Wen.
"Thanks, Hiro. You too, Baymax." Lu Wen shot out a web to catch the mask and thanked them.
(●-●): "You're welcome. It's what I should do."
After Lu Wen pressed the mask onto Venom's face covering, Venom let it pass through onto Lu Wen's face. Command of the Swarm Robots now officially belonged to him.
After putting on the sensor, Lu Wen willed the three enormous pillars made of robots to move, flipping the runaway portal over.
Now its intake faced the sky and could only suck in air. The half of the industrial park that had escaped total destruction thanks to Lu Wen's involvement was spared as well.
That counted as keeping his promise.
"I think we need to shut it down."
"We can't. The magnetic containment field has already failed. It'll break apart on its own." Though Ge Li wasn't a researcher, he still had the knowledge to recognize that.
Just as Hiro was about to tell everyone to leave, Baymax stood motionless. He had detected Callaghan's daughter, who was still alive.
Hiro immediately decided to rescue her.
Everyone there watched Hiro and Baymax fly into the portal, completely failing to notice that someone was missing.
"Whoa~ is this the Quantum Realm? Or the Warp?"
He looked at the fluid, chaotic nebulae surging around him, deep blue interwoven with violet and pinkish purple, like uncontrolled storms of color, twisting, expanding, and flowing.
Lu Wen stepped on the building debris floating in this space, collecting the Micro-Robots that had been sucked inside.
His Spider-Sense's warning wasn't too severe. There was no major danger for now, so he couldn't let them go to waste~
This space didn't seem very large. Everything that had just been sucked inside was within sight, so he soon collected all the robots that were still intact.
"Lu Wen? Why are you here?" Hiro stared in surprise at the black figure before him.
Wait! Man, when did you come in?
"Me~ I came for a walk," Lu Wen said calmly, spouting nonsense.
(●-●): "According to data analysis and risk assessment, this is not a good place for a walk. Baymax recommends..."
The earnest Baymax once again began listing the healthy options available.
"All right, Baymax, let's leave that for now. We need to find her quickly." Hiro hurriedly interrupted Baymax.
Soon, Baymax pinpointed Abigail's location and pushed the shuttle pod toward the exit.
"Nice work on the propulsion, kid. If you want to make money, remember to get that guy outside who wet his pants to invest in you!"
"Thanks for the compliment."
Originally, Baymax would have sacrificed himself here to protect Hiro, though he left his data chip behind. But this time, Lu Wen was here!
Lu Wen stood at the front of the shuttle pod, his feet firmly stuck in place. Every piece of building debris that flew toward them was either smashed by him or flung elsewhere with his webs, until they emerged safely.
"Look, they did it!"
"When did Lu Wen go in?"
"No idea, but that doesn't matter anymore. It's so great that they're all okay!"
Their friends crowded around them together, and the portal behind them completely lost control and disintegrated. The incident had finally come to an end.
In the end, the police arrived and arrested Callaghan, while an ambulance took Abigail away.
Who knew how the girl would feel when she woke up and learned everything her father had done.
In a corner out of the reporters' sight, after watching Callaghan being taken away, Lu Wen rested a hand on Hiro's shoulder and said softly, "All right, Hiro, you should go home. Cass and Tadashi are probably worried sick."
Not just Hiro, but everyone froze for a moment at his words.
"What did you say? You said... Tadashi's awake!" Hiro asked again to confirm, scarcely daring to believe it.
"Yes, you heard me right."
"When?"
"While you forgot to call me and came here to play heroes yourselves." Lu Wen raised an eyebrow.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's hurry back and see Tadashi!" GoGo was the first to urge them on.
The group rushed back to change out of their outfits, then raced to the hospital where Tadashi was staying.
"Hey, guys."
Seeing Tadashi sitting by the hospital bed, greeting them with a smile, Hiro finally failed to hold back his tears. He threw himself at Tadashi and tightly hugged his brother around the waist.
So close! Hiro kept feeling that he had come so close to losing his brother forever...
