Arc 1Impel Down Breakout

Roy seized control of a prison riot, defeated Shiryu and Magellan, and escaped Kuzan by hiding in Newkama Paradise. After negotiating with the Revolutionary Army and strengthening himself, Roy prepared to lead a second prison break from Level 5.5.

  • Roy awakened the Ryomen Sukuna system after Brother Sangbiao nearly killed him, healed himself, and took over the first level by killing Sangbiao and cutting through the prison cells.
  • Roy led the prisoners’ riot through Impel Down, defeated Shiryu after using their fight to master Observation Haki, and killed him before confronting Hannyabal and Magellan.
  • Roy overcame Magellan, but Kuzan intervened and fought him, and Roy escaped by using Rabbit Escape to distract Kuzan and reached the hidden route to Newkama Paradise.
  • Roy met Emporio Ivankov on Level 5.5, warned him that the Marines might discover their refuge, and negotiated Revolutionary Army support while recovering and training.
  • Roy pressured Dragon into arranging an attack on the Kingdom of Phil, and Sabo led the Revolutionary Army assault as the Marines debated Roy’s escape and the prison’s hidden spaces.
  • Roy absorbed two Sukuna’s Fingers, raised his strength to 95% of an Admiral’s, and ordered Ivankov and the Newkamas to begin the Level 6 breakout that night.
Chapters 1–25 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1Transmigrated into One Piece, but Stuck in Impel Down!

Roy, a transmigrator imprisoned in Impel Down, fought back when Brother Sangbiao tried to steal his food, but was badly beaten and left near death. As Roy’s life faded, a system activated and offered him a random choice of powers.

  • Roy refused to hand over his bun, and Brother Sangbiao threatened to kill him for it.
  • Roy slipped out of his handcuffs and stabbed Brother Sangbiao in the eye with a sharp stone.
  • Brother Sangbiao snapped Roy’s arm, shattered his breastbone, and stomped on his chest.
  • Roy’s resentment triggered a system that preserved his final breath and presented several systems for him to draw from.

Ch. 2Obtaining the Ryomen Sukuna template

After the system randomly granted Roy the Ryomen Sukuna (Fushiguro template), he recovered from his injuries and awakened powerful cursed techniques. He killed Brother Sangbiao, announced he was taking over Impel Down, and disabled the prison’s surveillance feed as jailers noticed the disturbance.

  • The system randomly gave Roy the Ryomen Sukuna (Fushiguro template), set its synchronization at 50%, and provided a Negative Cursed Energy Collection Ball.
  • Roy’s new abilities activated Reverse Cursed Technique, healing his broken bones and damaged organs as a terrifying presence spread through the prison.
  • Roy stood up fully healed, broke Brother Sangbiao’s legs, and cut off his right hand with Dismantle.
  • Roy ignored Brother Sangbiao’s pleas and threats, then killed him with a slash that also cut through the cell door.
  • Roy declared that Ryomen Roy was taking over Impel Down and destroyed the corridor’s projection Den Den Mushi, prompting the jailers monitoring the prison to notice the disturbance.

Ch. 3Jailer: No One Could Possibly Escape Impel Down!

Roy escaped his Seastone cell in Crimson Hell and killed two New World pirates who tried to threaten him. After jailers discovered the breakout and called for Chief Warden Magellan, Roy cut open more cells to unleash chaos throughout Impel Down.

  • A projection-room jailer noticed the signal from Crimson Hell had gone dead, but the Deputy Chief dismissed his concern as a lost Den Den Mushi signal.
  • Roy stepped out of his cell after killing Pirate Sangbiao and cutting through the Seastone bars, prompting the prisoners to beg him to free them.
  • Roy silenced the prisoners with his pressure, then killed two arrogant New World pirates by slicing through their cells and cutting them in half.
  • Jailers arrived, witnessed Roy's escape, and called for Chief Warden Magellan.
  • Roy cut open more cells and said he would make Impel Down descend into chaos.

Ch. 4Opening the Cells, the First Prison Break Begins

Roy freed the prisoners on Impel Down’s first level and used the ensuing riot to collect negative emotions and generate cursed energy. As the prisoners fought the jailers and Jailer Beasts, Roy finally moved to join the battle.

  • Roy ordered the ten freed prisoners to prove their worth, and they killed three jailers and took their cell keys.
  • The ten prisoners began releasing more inmates while Roy placed a Negative Emotion Origin Ball in a dark corner of Impel Down.
  • Nearly one thousand prisoners joined the riot and clashed with incoming jailers, Poisonous Spiders, and Blue Gorillas.
  • The prisoners overwhelmed the jailers, who called for the entrance to the first level to be sealed.
  • Roy stopped watching the melee and prepared to act.

Ch. 5Jailer: There's a Monster Like This on Impel Down's First Level? We Can't Win!

Roy slaughtered the jailers blocking the first-level prisoners’ escape and led them toward the Above Ground entrance after warning that the route to the upper prison levels was sealed. A hidden observer reported the riot to the okama leader as alarms summoned Impel Down’s forces to the first level.

  • Roy used Dismantle to kill over a hundred jailers and Poisonous Spiders, then urged the stunned prisoners to keep moving.
  • The prisoners defeated the remaining jailers and charged out of the cell area while Roy secretly sent Rabbit Escape Shikigami scouting.
  • Yake asked Roy how they could escape, and Roy explained that the route upward was likely sealed and led them toward the Above Ground entrance.
  • Roy noticed a hidden observer and followed the prisoners, thinking that the presence he had lured out gave him more reason to stay in Impel Down.
  • A man in bright, flowery clothes emerged from hiding and decided to report the riot to the okama leader.
  • Impel Down received alarms about the jailbreak, and jailers across the upper levels were ordered to suppress the riot on the first level.

Ch. 6The upper prison levels: impossible, how could anyone down below be breaking out?

As Roy’s breakout alarm spread through Impel Down, prisoners on the upper levels seized the chance to riot, while Sadi suppressed the fourth-level revolt. Sadi learned that communication with Magellan had failed and led reinforcements toward level one, fearing the escapees might breach the surface.

  • Prisoners on levels two and three heard the breakout alarm and hoped the escaping criminals would reach them, while jailers forced them back into their cells.
  • With Magellan away, fourth-level prisoners rebelled and attacked the jailers amid the flames.
  • Sadi arrived and whipped the rioting prisoners until dozens lay unconscious.
  • Sadi told the jailers that she could not contact Magellan and suspected interference or trouble on level six.
  • Sadi ordered some jailers to guard the prisoners and led the rest toward level one to reinforce Domino and Saldeath.

Ch. 7The battle for Above Ground Floor One

Roy’s prisoners reached the lift platform and stairwell at Above Ground Floor One as communications across Impel Down failed. Shiryu entered the battle and attacked Roy, who knocked him down in one punch before Shiryu rose and launched a Haki-enhanced Crimson Slash.

  • A white Rabbit Escape rabbit severed a wire on Level 4, while rabbits on other levels continued their sabotage and Domino lost contact with the lower floors.
  • Domino and the remaining jailers charged toward the battle to defend Above Ground Floor One as prisoners fought their way toward the lift platform.
  • Shiryu arrived, cutting down anyone in his way, and Yake rallied the prisoners to keep fighting.
  • Roy confronted Shiryu, dodged his sword attack, and sent him flying with a punch.
  • Shiryu got back up, activated Armament Haki and Observation Haki, and unleashed a Crimson Slash at Roy.

Ch. 8Jailer: Chief Warden Shiryu couldn't possibly lose

Roy overwhelmed Shiryu during the prison uprising while studying his Haki, as Domino led jailers and beasts against the weakened first-floor criminals. At Marineford, intelligence officers discovered that multiple Impel Down communication channels had gone silent and reported a likely crisis.

  • Roy shattered Shiryu’s sword slash, wounded him despite his Observation Haki, and began analyzing Shiryu’s Observation and Armament Haki.
  • Shiryu attacked Roy with powerful sword techniques, but Roy dodged and struck back while using their clashes to practice Haki.
  • Domino led arriving jailers and beasts into the fight, and they subdued more than half of the first-floor criminals.
  • Marineford intelligence officers lost contact with six Impel Down channels and suspected that multiple communication nodes had been deliberately destroyed.
  • An urgent report about the silence at Impel Down reached the Navy High Command’s office area.

Ch. 9Sengoku: What? Something's seriously wrong at Impel Down?

After Impel Down lost contact with Marine Headquarters, Sengoku sent Aokiji to investigate and suppress any trouble. Tsuru advised Sengoku to contact Chief Warden Magellan directly, and the call connected as Sengoku demanded to know what had happened.

  • A communications officer reported that Impel Down's signal was gone and Marine Headquarters could not reach it, prompting Sengoku to panic and berate him.
  • Tsuru calmed Sengoku and suggested that Aokiji, who was near Impel Down, investigate the prison.
  • Sengoku ordered Aokiji to suppress any serious trouble, and Aokiji rode an ice path toward Impel Down.
  • Tsuru urged Sengoku to call Magellan directly, and Sengoku reached him and asked what had happened at Impel Down.

Ch. 10Level 6: Heh heh heh, someone's breaking out? Count me in! Magellan: ???

Magellan tried to contain the prisoners’ excitement over the Level 1 breakout while Sengoku sent Admiral Aokiji to reinforce Impel Down. Roy’s rabbit reached Bullet in Level 6 with a message announcing a second prison break, and Bullet began to hope for escape.

  • The Level 6 prisoners discussed the breakout as Magellan threatened them with his Poison Dragon and warned Bullet to stay quiet.
  • Bullet defiantly threatened Magellan, who struck the bars of his cell with poison and told him to escape first before making threats.
  • Sengoku ordered Magellan to resolve the breakout and said Admiral Aokiji was on his way as reinforcement.
  • Magellan left Level 6 after warning the prisoners that he would crush their hopes, while they silently watched him go.
  • Roy’s white rabbit slipped through the prison and delivered Bullet the message, “Welcome to... the second prison break.”
  • Bullet stared at the vanished rabbit in shock, then welcomed the prospect of escape as Roy noted that another objective had been achieved.

Ch. 11Roy: Thanks to the mighty Shiryu for the Dual Haki

Roy used his fight with Shiryu to learn Armament and Observation Haki, then overwhelmed the Chief Warden. As Shiryu charged again, Roy sent him into a special space where his past began replaying.

  • Roy snapped Shiryu's sword with his Armament Haki and kept dodging to hone his Observation Haki.
  • Shiryu realized Roy was using him as a training partner and attacked in desperation while the prisoners and jailers watched.
  • Roy mastered Observation Haki, dodging Shiryu's punches with his eyes closed, while Shiryu reflected on his life and prepared to fight again.
  • Roy told Shiryu he would remember him, then shattered the battlefield and transported him into a special space.
  • Shiryu saw scenes from his childhood, including pirates killing his parents, his alienation in the Marines, and his arrival at Impel Down.

Ch. 12A life flashing before his eyes? No time to mourn Shiryu's death. Next to appear is...

Roy killed Shiryu and faced Impel Down’s arriving Chief Jailer Sadi and Deputy Chief Warden Hannyabal. With Magellan still absent, Hannyabal stepped forward to defend the jailers despite his fear.

  • Shiryu recalled Magellan’s knowledge of his secret killings and spoke with Roy before fading from the life-flashing vision.
  • Roy cut Shiryu in half, leaving the jailers and criminals reacting to the Chief Warden’s death.
  • Domino urged the jailers to hold out for Magellan as Roy challenged them to send their next fighter.
  • Sadi, Hannyabal, and more than a dozen Jailer Beasts arrived, but Hannyabal said Magellan was still on his way.
  • Hannyabal stood before the jailers and vowed Roy would have to step over his corpse to leave.

Ch. 13Roy: You're so touching. Now watch me slaughter you all!

Roy defeated the jailers and beasts at Impel Down’s stairway entrance, then faced Chief Warden Magellan. Magellan’s poison badly corroded Roy, but Roy healed before his eyes, leaving their confrontation poised to begin.

  • Roy fought Hannyabal, Sadi, the Jailer Beasts, and the other jailers with hand-to-hand combat and Armament Haki, killing or incapacitating nearly everyone.
  • Roy broke Hannyabal’s arms, tore off Sadi’s arm, and then snapped her neck after she warned him that Magellan was coming.
  • Roy left Hannyabal unconscious and Domino gravely wounded as the stairway entrance became a field of corpses.
  • Magellan arrived and attacked Roy with three poison dragons, severely corroding his face, arms, and chest.
  • Roy healed his injuries in front of Magellan and greeted him with a grin.

Ch. 14Magellan: Roy, I want you dead!

Roy fought Magellan in Impel Down, using his healing ability, Haki, and close-combat skill to overcome the warden’s poison. After tearing off one of Magellan’s wings, Roy taunted him and his horrified jailers, leaving the fight unresolved.

  • Magellan questioned Roy’s strength and motives, while Roy said Marines had wrongly imprisoned him after he spoke up against injustice.
  • Magellan attacked with poison clouds and Poison Blowfish, but Roy escaped the cloud and blocked the venom with Armament Haki.
  • Roy and Magellan fought at close range until Roy gained the advantage, despite a Poison Dragon biting his shoulder; Roy healed the wound with Reverse Cursed Technique.
  • Roy overwhelmed Magellan’s poison and Haki, struck him down, and tore off one of his wings.
  • The jailers begged Roy to spare Magellan, but Roy mocked their loyalty and threatened to make the pain worse.

Ch. 15Kuzan arrived

Roy nearly killed Magellan with an enhanced Dismantle: Eight after defeating Impel Down’s forces, but Marine Admiral Kuzan arrived and froze the battlefield to save him. Kuzan faced Roy as Roy began breaking free from the ice behind him.

  • Roy mocked Magellan, then killed dozens of jailers who insulted him with a single slash.
  • Magellan unleashed Venom Demon: Hell's Judgment and transformed into a towering red giant to attack Roy.
  • Roy fired Enhanced Dismantle: Eight, splitting Magellan’s giant form and sending a cross-shaped slash toward his real body.
  • Kuzan arrived and used Ice Age to freeze the area, interrupting the slash and pulling the unconscious Magellan out of its path.
  • The slash tore through the ice and surrounding structures, leaving Kuzan shaken by Roy’s strength.
  • As Kuzan faced Roy, Roy quietly began breaking through the ice behind him.

Ch. 16Battling an Admiral

Roy fought Admiral Kuzan after escaping Impel Down, but his exhaustion left him at a disadvantage against Kuzan’s ice powers and stronger Armament Haki. After breaking free from Kuzan’s ice again, Roy raised his fingers to unleash an Enhanced Slash: Hachi, leaving their battle unresolved.

  • Kuzan emerged from the ice with frostbite, and he and Roy began fighting after acknowledging each other’s strength.
  • Roy provoked Kuzan by mentioning the Ohara Incident and the girl Kuzan had secretly allowed to escape, prompting Kuzan to attack in anger.
  • Kuzan noticed Roy’s fear of his freezing power and exploited Roy’s depleted stamina during their close-quarters battle.
  • Kuzan froze Roy with Ice Ball, but Roy broke free and accused him of being a bastard.
  • Roy aimed his fingers at Kuzan and unleashed Enhanced Slash: Hachi.

Ch. 17System panel? Kuzan: I was ready for a bloody battle, but you actually ran away!

Roy fought Kuzan in Impel Down’s Level 1 cells, but his slashes could not harm Kuzan while he was elementalized. Roy attempted to infuse his shikigami with Armament Haki, failed, and used Rabbit Escape to flee, leaving Kuzan furious as Sengoku called.

  • Roy and Kuzan realized that Roy’s slashes could not hurt Kuzan while he was elementalized, and each recognized that the other had been testing this weakness.
  • Kuzan declared that Roy was too dangerous to let escape, while Roy summoned Piercing Ox and Divine Dogs: Totality and checked his system panel.
  • Roy tried to infuse his shikigami with Armament Haki, but the attempt made him spit blood before Kuzan froze the shikigami.
  • Roy used Rabbit Escape to fill Kuzan’s sight with rabbits and escaped while Kuzan froze the Level 1 cells.
  • Kuzan found Roy and the shikigami gone, cursed Roy for running away, and received a call from Sengoku on his special Den Den Mushi.

Ch. 18Sengoku: Kuzan Must Have Defeated the Criminal by Now! Kuzan: The Criminal Escaped!

Sengoku called Kuzan expecting to hear that the Impel Down riot had been contained, but learned that Roy had escaped after defeating Kuzan. As Kuzan assessed the damage and Sengoku prepared to go to Impel Down, Roy was shown alive in a hidden tunnel with an unknown figure.

  • Sengoku and Tsuru waited anxiously for Kuzan to answer his Den Den Mushi, while Sengoku assumed the riot had been suppressed.
  • Kuzan told Sengoku that he had defeated Roy, but Roy had escaped.
  • Kuzan reported that Roy had led the Level 1 breakout, killed Shiryu, defeated Magellan, and escaped after their fight.
  • Sengoku ordered Kuzan to check Magellan and said he would head to Impel Down with Garp.
  • Kuzan and the surviving jailers returned the frozen prisoners to their cells and counted the casualties; Magellan, Hannyabal, and Domino had survived despite grave injuries.
  • Roy appeared alive in a hidden tunnel on Level 1 of Impel Down, facing a figure with yellow-and-white cloudlike hair.

Ch. 19Heading to Level 5.5

Roy confronted Inazuma in the Level 1 tunnel and forced him to lead the way to Newkama Paradise on Level 5.5. Meanwhile, Emporio Ivankov waited for Inazuma and prepared to investigate before a strange rabbit appeared and vanished at the entrance.

  • Roy recognized Inazuma as one of Emporio Ivankov's men and revealed that he knew about Newkama Paradise.
  • Inazuma threatened to withhold the route, but Roy spared him and ordered him to lead the way.
  • A white rabbit from Roy's Rabbit Escape hopped ahead through the tunnel, and Inazuma followed Roy.
  • Emporio Ivankov and the newkamas waited anxiously for Inazuma, and Emporio Ivankov decided to investigate if he did not return.
  • A rabbit appeared at Newkama Paradise's tunnel entrance and then vanished, leaving Emporio Ivankov and the others bewildered.

Ch. 20Ivankov: Sir Roy, you're threatening me!

Roy reached Newkama Paradise on Level 5.5, subdued a newkama who attacked him, and negotiated with Ivankov about a deal involving the Revolutionary Army. After beginning to recover in a secluded cave, Roy learned that Sengoku, Garp, and Tsuru had arrived at Impel Down.

  • Roy appeared on Level 5.5 and told Ivankov to move the uninvolved newkamas away.
  • A burly newkama attacked Roy, and Roy threw him into a rock wall without killing him.
  • Ivankov ordered the other newkamas to withdraw, then stayed with Inazuma to hear Roy's proposal involving the Revolutionary Army.
  • Roy asked for a quiet place to recover and warned Ivankov that Impel Down's Jailers might discover Newkama Paradise soon.
  • Roy began sensing cursed energy in a secluded cave, while Sengoku, Garp, and Tsuru arrived by warship outside Impel Down.

Ch. 21Sengoku: Impel Down was only so big-where on earth had Roy gone!

Sengoku, Tsuru, and Garp investigated Roy’s escape but found no trace of him, while Roy secretly hid on Level 5.5 and continued his plan. The Marines tightened security across Impel Down as Roy sent Rabbit Escape to urge Emporio Ivankov to act quickly.

  • Sengoku, Tsuru, and Garp inspected Level 1, examined Roy’s massive slash, and questioned why someone with Admiral-level strength had entered Impel Down.
  • Kuzan and Magellan told the three that searches and interrogations had yielded no clues, while the prisoners believed Roy would return to free them.
  • Garp sensed something briefly while leaving, and a hidden rabbit emerged after the Marines departed.
  • Roy absorbed cursed energy on Level 5.5 and sent Rabbit Escape to warn Emporio Ivankov that Sengoku had arrived and demand a decision soon.
  • Sengoku organized searches of every level, classified the breakout as a Marine secret, ordered security reforms, and kept himself, Tsuru, and Garp at Impel Down for three days.

Ch. 22Contacting the Revolutionary Army

Roy forced Dragon to cooperate with a plan to distract the Marines while prisoners escaped Impel Down. With keys to the Level 6 Seastone cells secured, Roy prepared for the escape in seven days and continued restoring and strengthening himself.

  • After news of the Marines' visit to Impel Down spread, Sengoku and Tsuru returned to Marine Headquarters to address reports of the Revolutionary Army in an Affiliated Nation, while Garp and Kuzan stayed to search for Roy.
  • Roy threatened Dragon by revealing what he knew about Luffy, Foosha Village, and Dragon's family, and Dragon agreed to have the Revolutionary Army harass an Affiliated Nation under strict conditions.
  • Roy gave Ivankov keys to the Level 6 Seastone cells and handcuffs, which he had taken from Shiryu during their fight, and ordered him to prepare for the escape in seven days.
  • Roy healed his injuries with Reverse Cursed Technique, checked the two forming fingers of Ryomen Sukuna, and resumed training his Armament Haki and Observation Haki.

Ch. 23The Affiliated Nation Incident

Sabo and Koala led the Revolutionary Army and Phil citizens in an assault on the Kingdom of Phil, where the royal family’s arrests and forced conscription had fueled a rebellion. As Sabo routed the King’s Army, Marine Admiral Kizaru approached the island and wondered about Roy’s connection to clues found at Impel Down.

  • The King of Phil ordered mass arrests and forced conscription while the Revolutionary Army prepared to attack, and Sabo and Koala resolved to limit civilian casualties and withdraw after three days.
  • Sabo led the Revolutionary Army and civilian forces in a night assault that blasted open the capital’s gate.
  • The King’s Army commander organized a defense, but Sabo used Armament Haki and Dragon Claw Fist to carve through thousands of soldiers and charge toward the commander.
  • The fighting caused more than ten thousand casualties as Sabo’s forces pushed toward defeating the King’s Army.
  • Kizaru sailed toward the Kingdom of Phil, commenting on Dragon’s intervention and asking about Roy and the clues uncovered at Impel Down.

Ch. 24A meeting at Marine Headquarters! Sakazuki: If you're shutting me out, I'm leaving!

At Marine Headquarters, Sakazuki clashed with Sengoku and Tsuru over Garp and Kuzan, then stayed after Tsuru urged him not to split the Marines. The meeting uncovered evidence of a hidden level in Impel Down, while Roy recovered his cursed energy and formed Ryomen Sukuna's Fingers on Level 5.5.

  • Sengoku called a meeting about the Revolutionary Army's attack on the Kingdom of Phil, and Sakazuki urged a forceful response while blaming Garp for Dragon's rebellion.
  • Sakazuki argued with Sengoku and Tsuru, criticized Kuzan, and threatened to leave the meeting, but Tsuru persuaded him to stay.
  • Sengoku reported that Kuzan and Garp had found three prisoners whose accounts suggested fugitives were vanishing inside Impel Down.
  • Sakazuki proposed that a Devil Fruit ability might have created hidden spaces between Impel Down's levels.
  • Roy recovered his cursed energy after six days and formed two of Ryomen Sukuna's Fingers in Impel Down's Level 5.5.

Ch. 25The second prison break begins

After consuming two of Sukuna’s Fingers and completing six days of training, Roy reached 95% of Admiral strength and prepared to lead Ivankov and the Newkama Paradise followers in an early breakout. He set the escape in motion before the Jailers could discover Level 5.5, and the group headed for Level 6 of Impel Down.

  • Roy swallowed two Sukuna’s Fingers, raising his strength to 95% of an Admiral’s and improving his cursed abilities.
  • Roy left the cave and joined Ivankov, who praised his progress and agreed he could lead the prison break.
  • Roy explained that Kuzan and Garp’s search might reveal Level 5.5, so he ordered everyone to break out that night instead of the next morning.
  • Ivankov presented Roy with a custom-made kimono, which he put on before setting out.
  • Roy led Ivankov and the Newkama Paradise followers toward the tunnel to Level 6, planning to release its prisoners while Kuzan and the others were occupied.
