Formation and Biological Function
Mutation Process
- Mutation organs are the results of individual stages of energy-driven bodily strengthening 13.
- During his tunnel simulation, Lin Ye concentrated energy into his heart, producing a deformed but powerful mutation organ. In a later attempt, his heart became his first mutation organ as the Abyssal Egg caused surrounding energy to enter his body 10 11.
- Mutation is influenced by the environment and the individual's wishes. Using his altered perception, Lin Ye could influence which parts of his body mutated, although he struggled to slow the process under the Abyssal Egg's influence 10 11 50.
- Mutation Cards accelerate bodily mutation. Card No. 8 randomly mutates an abdominal organ, while completing a mutation requires substantial matter and energy 12 15.
- Excessive mutation can deform the body, damage the mind, and cause loss of control. Lin Ye warned that continued energy absorption in the Red Maze could push card-induced mutation beyond a safe threshold 10 13.
Energy and Activity
- Mutation organs participate in a creature's energy use. The Sheep-Headed Monster's organ churned energy in preparation for attacks and had a perceptible connection to its limbs 23 24.
- Some organs contain Energy Crystals. Lin Ye found crystals in two major organs of the fused-flesh monster and later routinely extracted crystals while processing corpses 15 24.
- Organ count alone does not indicate strength: the Sheep-Headed Monster's single organ was more active than those of an earlier creature with several organs 23.
- Mutation quality also varies: the fused-flesh monster's six organs had chaotic internal structures, extreme mutation, and poor stability; the bird-headed creature's two organs were less mutated than the hooded Tier 1 creature's single organ 15 39.
- Highly active organs do not necessarily indicate an aggressive host. The flesh mass in the fog-shrouded town contained numerous unusually active organs but showed no aggression 50.
Combat Significance
Vital Points
- Mutation organs are weak points in otherwise exceptionally resilient creatures. Destroying them makes the creatures easier to finish off 10 13.
- Lin Ye initially presented this as a tentative theory after killing a Blood Corpse; his experience as a mutated creature later confirmed it 6 13.
- Their locations vary. Blood Corpse organs were internal, while Lin Ye deliberately induced surface growth during the tunnel simulation so his earlier self could kill him 10.
- Abnormal-looking body parts provide useful targeting clues, but creatures may have more than one such part. Lin Ye's enhanced perception also allowed him to locate organs directly 17 23 27.
Documented Attacks
| Target | Method | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Sheep-Headed Monster | Lin Ye drove the Red Blade and his arm through its chest, then pulled out its organ. | The monster lost its strength 24. |
| Hooded Tier 1 creature | Lin Ye wounded its chest with a psionic blade, then pierced its sole mutation organ with the Red Blade. | The creature died 33. |
| Bird-headed creature | Lin Ye severed both organs with a combined psionic and physical slash. | The creature fell immediately 39. |
| Giant insect | A CL0 Pistol bullet passed through an existing wound and shattered its organ. | The insect was killed 41. |
Uses
Upgrade and Crafting Materials
| Application | Required Organs | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Shelter upgrade | 10 organs from unranked mutated creatures | The Shelter Upgrade Blueprint accepts organs as submitted materials; completing the upgrade advances the Shelter to Tier 1 6 15. |
| Unranked Mutated Weapon Crafting Blueprint | 1–5 organs | Material combinations matter; using more organs does not necessarily produce a stronger weapon 7. |
| Tier 1 Psionic Energy Crystal Maker | 10 Tier 1 organs | Lin Ye completed the blueprint quest and obtained a machine producing two crystals daily 16 33 42. |
| Low-grade Concentrated Nutrient Solution Extractor | 10 each of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 organs | All three grades are required by the blueprint 34. |
Consumption
- The system identifies a Damaged Mutation Organ as edible and capable of providing certain special substances. Its description also lists it as Shelter-upgrade material 16.
Harvesting and Storage
- Organs can be removed by dissecting mutated creatures. A single corpse may yield multiple organs: Lin Ye recovered six from the fused-flesh monster 15.
- Simulation rewards can also supply them. Lin Ye received four organs produced by his simulated body and submitted them toward his Shelter upgrade, raising its progress to 5/10 12.
- Lin Ye used perception to assist corpse processing and crystal extraction, eventually gathering organs in large woven sacks during the ruins expedition 24 27.
- Harvested organs require storage attention. A survivor complained that purchased organs were beginning to stink, and Lin Ye later sought a refrigerator for organs and corpse meat 32 50.
Trade
| Transaction | Terms | Result |

| Reported trading-market price | 20 Red Coins per organ | Reported by a survivor during Lin Ye's sale 29. |
| Mutual Aid Association offer | 15 Red Coins per organ, with no quantity limit | Lin Ye had none left to sell 29. |
