Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Primary | 1 | Initial level. Grants seven days of absolute safety, with instructions to upgrade before that period expires. Water, electricity, and gas are unavailable. |
| Tier 1 | 15 | Reached after completing the Shelter Upgrade Blueprint mission requiring ten Mutation Organs from unranked mutated creatures. Unlocks basic utilities and basic information inspection; the safety period displayed becomes 14 days. No visible structural change accompanies the upgrade. |
Upgrade Requirements
- Blueprint: Each survivor needs their own Shelter Upgrade Blueprint; it is an upgrade material, not merely information that another survivor can share 6.
- Materials: Lin Ye’s first advancement requires ten Mutation Organs from unranked mutated creatures. Submitted organs disappear as the mission counter increases 6.
- Collection progress: His first Blood Corpse organ raises progress to 1/10. Four organs produced during the tunnel simulation bring it to 5/10, and the mission is completed during his second Maze Exploration 6 12 15.
- Early acquisition window: During the first three days of nighttime activities, each participant’s first treasure chest is guaranteed to contain a Shelter Upgrade Blueprint 4 13.
- Later availability: After the beginner period, treasure chests become less common and their contents decline in quality. A survivor subsequently reports finding a spare shelter blueprint in an Item Room reached after defeating a Tier 1 creature 32 34.
Layout and Surroundings
The Shelter initially contains only basic fixtures and furniture within its roughly 30-square-meter floor plan 1.
| Area | Contents |
|---|---|
| Entrance and cooking area | Sink and stove immediately inside the front door 1 |
| Bathroom | Flush toilet and shower, opposite the sink 1 |
| Bedroom | Desk, bed, and an exterior-facing window; separated from the sink area by a sliding door 1 |
- Corridor: Strange footsteps can be heard outside, although the door’s peephole initially reveals only an empty stretch of hallway 1.
- Exterior: Dense white fog obscures the view from the window, with enormous shadows occasionally passing through it 1.
- Nearby shelters: Other rooms are close enough for Lin Ye to hear their occupants 1.
- Storage constraints: Supplies accumulate in corners and later fill a flatbed cart brought back from a Site Mission. Limited space makes a large refrigerator impractical 12 28 50.
Protection and Limitations
Absolute Safety
- Anomaly suppression: When Lin Ye opens the Abyss Box inside the Shelter, the system detects dangerous information and renders its contents harmless, allowing him to select an item 3.
- Forced removal: After his selection, the system returns the remaining objects to the Abyss Box, including objects that resist leaving 4.
- Abyss residue processing: Following the tunnel simulation, the system detects and processes Abyss residue in the Shelter, producing the Gate to the Abyss 12.
- Time limit: Protection is not presented as permanent. Both the Primary and Tier 1 panels instruct Lin Ye to raise the Shelter’s level within the stated safety period 1 15.
Known Threats and Uncertainties
- Bloodstain: The Voice of the City broadcast identifies the third floor as Bloodstain’s territory and reports that it has marked the areas outside shelters, waiting for residents to step out 17.
- Sewer infestation: The same broadcast warns that ravenous worms will enter through sewer-connected gaps once absolute safety expires 17.
- Self-inflicted changes: After a Mutual Aid Association member becomes unable to continue surviving following rune-card use, Zhang Liang proposes that changes made to a survivor’s own body may fall outside shelter protection. This remains the association’s interpretation 35.
- Invited visitors: Lin Ye postpones opening the Gate to the Abyss because he fears its visitors might refuse to leave before his protection expires 12.
Functions and Facilities
Basic Utilities
Tier 1 restores the room’s domestic utilities 15.
- Running water supports showers and boiling water for drinking 15.
- Electricity allows Lin Ye to use the lights at night 15.
- Gas becomes available, although he initially has little equipment that uses it 15.
- Shelter water cannot be traded through the system 15 16.
Basic Information Inspection
- Unlocked at Tier 1, this function lets Lin Ye examine item descriptions and learn the effects of previously unidentified equipment and Mutation Cards 15 16.
- Item information is only viewable inside the Shelter; he cannot inspect the Revelry Potion’s properties while participating in the Feast of Revelry 39.
Psionic Energy Conditions
- The Shelter contains no ambient Psionic Energy. Lin Ye cannot use the Psychic Ring there to absorb energy from his surroundings 21 28.
- He suspects this absence is connected to absolute safety, since prolonged Psionic Energy exposure can cause mutation; the connection is not confirmed 21.
- Stored sources remain usable. Lin Ye draws on crystals to inscribe runes, while other survivors describe using Nutrient Solution to practice energy circulation inside their shelters 32 38.
Added Installations
| Installation | Function |
|---|---|
| Gate to the Abyss | A passage that can invite Abyss Dwellers into the Shelter. Its description promises rewards if the host prepares something that interests them; Lin Ye initially leaves it unopened 12. |
| Loot-space doorway | Appears on a wall after the Feast of Revelry, providing access to the event’s collected corpses and spoils 39 42. |
| Tier 1 Psionic Energy Crystal Maker | A square metal box installed in the wall after its blueprint quest is completed. Produces two Tier 1 Psionic Energy Crystals daily without raw materials 42. |
Use by Lin Ye
Return Point and Supply Base
Lin Ye receives Room 304 when the survival system first loads. With no working utilities and lethal conditions outside, he initially stays indoors and relies on his beginner supplies and Class-D Personnel Simulator 1.
Completed simulations return him to the Shelter with rewards placed around the room. Nighttime activities also return him and his acquired supplies there, including a loaded flatbed cart after the ruins Site Mission 3 6 12 28.
Workshop and Study Area
- Anomalous research: Lin Ye studies the reassembled humanoid mural and practices using the Cross Necklace inside the room 17 21.
- Rune crafting: He cuts a damaged Black Ceremonial Robe into pieces and turns them into more than a dozen single-use Simple Protective Items 38.
- Material processing: With the blood-red owl’s guidance, he sorts supplies, extracts Mutation Organs from corpses, and removes impure crystals from the organs 42.
- Egg care: He keeps the Abyssal Egg and Xenomorph Egg in the Shelter, tending them with hot water and creature flesh 35 42.
- Game Room access: The Game Room Invitation must be used inside the Shelter to teleport its user to the gaming venue 34.
Residents and Visitors
- Lin Ye — Assigned resident; uses the Shelter for rest, storage, crafting, and preparation between missions 1 38 48.
- Card Box summons — Blood-red creatures including a goose, cat, duck, and owl appear inside the room after his daily draws, providing food or assistance 4 7 28 42.
- Crimson Nun — Appears through a Card Box draw and remains silently kneeling in the Shelter while Lin Ye visits the Game Room. She has left by his return from the Feast of Revelry 35 38 42.
- Blood-red owl — Helps organize the Shelter and process materials. Lin Ye leaves it in charge during his cruise-ship simulation and later wakes to find it sharing his pillow 42 43 47.
