Biodata
| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Mutated Creatures |
| Original Name | 异化生物 |
| Species/Race | A broad category encompassing mutated corpses, animals, humanoids, and other life-forms 6 23 33 50 |
| Known Ranks | Unranked; Tier 1 6 33 |
| Habitats | Red Maze, survivor city, abandoned ruins, underground research institute, and fog-shrouded town 13 16 17 23 50 |
| Role | Survival threats, research subjects, and sources of mutation organs and crafting materials 6 17 42 |
Power Progression
The documented ranks below concern different specimens; no individual creature’s breakthrough from unranked to Tier 1 is shown.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Unranked | 6 | Blood Corpses supply organs accepted by the Shelter upgrade quest, which requires ten mutation organs from unranked creatures. |
| Tier 1 | 26 27 33 | Includes the black-haired girl encountered in the ruins and the humanoid guarding a Red Maze hall. Both have a single identified mutation organ, despite their different combat abilities. |
Biology and Mutation
Mutation Process
Mutation strengthens the body by absorbing energy. Lin Ye describes it more precisely as evolution at the level of life itself: controlled mutation can surpass normal human limits, while exceeding a threshold deforms the body and severely affects the mind 10 13.
- Mutation organs mark individual stages of bodily strengthening 13.
- Environment and individual wishes heavily influence the direction of mutation 50.
- Matter and energy requirements can be substantial. One survivor exhausted his food supply during a card-induced mutation and needed Nutrient Solution to complete it 12.
- Red Maze exposure slowly strengthens the body through ordinary breathing and movement. Lin Ye warns that continued exposure after using a Mutation Card can eventually push mutation beyond a safe threshold 13.
- Abyssal influence can accelerate the process uncontrollably. Under the Abyssal Egg’s influence, Lin Ye could guide which body parts mutated but struggled to slow the mutation itself 11.
Mutation Organs
Mutation organs are functional sources of strength and critical weak points. Their number, structure, and activity differ between creatures 13 15 23.
- Location: Often associated with visibly abnormal body parts, though organs can lie inside the body 10 13.
- Number: A creature may possess one organ or several 17 23.
- Activity: The Sheep-Headed Monster’s single organ was more active than those of an earlier multi-organ monster; organ count alone does not establish strength 23.
- Internal structure: One dissected monster had six highly mutated organs with chaotic structures and poor stability 15.
- Crystals: Some organs contain dark red energy crystals that can be extracted from corpses 15 24.
- Vulnerability: Destroying the organs makes otherwise resilient creatures much easier to kill 13 18.
Mental Effects
Uncontrolled mutation can damage perception, judgment, and self-control. During his simulated transformation, Lin Ye experienced persistent whispers, visual disturbances, and increasing difficulty controlling his body 10.
Mental deterioration is not universal. Some creatures speak, use equipment, evaluate danger, and retreat rather than attack a stronger opponent 33 40.
Appearance
- Corpse-like: Blood Corpses remain recognizable as mutated corpses 6.
- Animal-like: Documented forms include a mutated wild dog, a Sheep-Headed Monster, a bird-headed humanoid, and spiderlike or insectoid creatures 23 39 40 41.
- Nearly human: The girl encountered in the ruins has black hair and red eyes but no other outwardly obvious abnormality 26.
- Amorphous: A creature in the fog-shrouded town is an expanding mass of flesh that fills a restroom and has lost most recognizable biological characteristics 50.
- Externally distorted: Lin Ye’s simulated monstrous body develops numerous twisted organs on its surface after he deliberately guides their growth outward 9 10.
Abilities & Skills
Enhanced Physique and Vitality
Mutation can produce strength and endurance far beyond normal human limits 9 10.
- Mutated Lin Ye moves without apparent fatigue and possesses exceptionally tenacious vitality 9 10.
- Blood Corpses can batter laboratory doors and buckle reinforced cell bars in groups 18 19.
- The Sheep-Headed Monster uses thick muscle tissue reinforced by psionic energy to stop incompletely mutated bullets from penetrating deeply 23.
- The ruins’ black-haired girl crosses the distance to the supermarket too quickly for Lin Ye to react effectively 26.
Psionic Energy
Psionic energy can strengthen a creature’s body and support specialized abilities 23 26.
- The Sheep-Headed Monster’s mutation organ circulates energy to coordinate powerful physical attacks 23.
- Red-haired Caroline stops bullets in midair, consuming substantial psionic energy and mental power 19 20.
- The Tier 1 humanoid in the Red Maze uses a protective robe and pistol that respectively generate psionic protection and fire energy-infused bullets 33 34.
- Psionic energy is not inherently protective: hostile applications can cut apart or pulverize mutated bodies 26.
Extraordinary Perception
Some mutated forms possess senses beyond ordinary sight 10 23.
- Mutated Lin Ye can perceive his surroundings without looking and directly examine conditions inside his body 10.
- The Sheep-Headed Monster continues sensing Lin Ye’s general position after losing its eyes 23.
- The black-haired girl recognizes the tactical limits of Lin Ye’s perception and waits for him to move outside its range 27.
Documented Creatures
| Creature | Distinguishing Traits | Encounter |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Corpse | Unranked mutated corpse; a direct hit to its mutation organ can kill it with a K1 Pistol. | Red Maze and underground institute 6 13 18 |
| Six-organ monster | Contains six unstable, highly mutated organs and crystals within two principal organs. | Dissected by Lin Ye during maze exploration 15 |
| Sheep-Headed Monster | Muscular ambush predator with one unusually active organ; retains limited tracking ability after being blinded. | Gun shop in the ruins 23 24 |
| Black-haired girl | Tier 1 threat with red eyes, extreme speed, and one centrally located mutated part. | Supermarket siege 26 27 |
| Robed humanoid | Intelligent Tier 1 being with a chest mutation organ and Ring Organization equipment. | Red Maze hall 33 34 |
| Bird-headed humanoid | Speaking creature with two mutation organs; killed when Lin Ye severs both. | Feast of Revelry 39 |
| Spiderlike creature | Tier 1 creature that charges directly into Lin Ye’s bladed psionic protection. | Streets near the City Theater 40 |
| Giant insect | Resists the theater’s cutting defenses; killed when a CL0 bullet destroys its mutation organ. | City Theater 41 |
| Restroom flesh mass | Nonaggressive mound containing numerous unusually active mutation organs. | Fog-shrouded town 50 |
Behavior and Distribution
Territories and Swarms
Mr. X’s broadcast states that mutated creatures occupy every corner of the survivor city. Its strongest inhabitants have divided the city into territories and intend to feast on survivors once the Initial Stage ends 16.
- Ruins: A gigantic central shadow releases a tide of creatures that attacks living things indiscriminately and carries their corpses back to the nest 25.
- Repopulation: As Lin Ye’s team leaves the ruins, a giant egg opens and scatters red flesh that forms new mutated creatures 28.
- Red Maze: The system increases creature spawn rates after the beginner period ends 32.
- City Theater: Some rational creatures withdraw after inspecting Lin Ye’s defenses. Others wait nearby and attack after assuming his battle with the giant insect has exhausted him 40 41.
Research and Artificial Mutation
The organization operates an underground institute dedicated to studying mutated creatures. Its escaped experiment devours the institute’s living occupants and completes an initial mutation; Dr. Caroline regards its failure as evidence that mutation remains uncontrollable 17 19.
In the fog-shrouded town, Lin Ye suspects human intervention because the grotesque creatures are unusually weak and display abnormal development. He considers experimentation or deliberate organ production as possibilities, but neither explanation is confirmed in the provided account 50.
Harvested Materials and Uses
| Material | Use |
|---|---|
| Unranked mutation organs | Ten are required for the initial Shelter upgrade 6. |
| Mutation organs | One to five can be used with an Unranked Mutated Weapon Crafting Blueprint; adding more does not necessarily produce a stronger weapon 7. |
| Tier 1 mutation organs | Ten are required by the Tier 1 Psionic Energy Crystal Maker Blueprint 16. |
| Energy crystals | Extracted from some mutation organs; impure crystals are edible and provide energy 15 16 24. |
| Flesh and blood | Used by the CL0 Psionic Pistol to produce mutated ammunition 21 42. |
| Selected body parts | Materials for crafting psionic energy items 42. |
| Tier 1 corpse chunks | Nutrient-rich and edible; the system advises against eating them raw 42. |
| Active eyeball | A Tier 1 creature’s eye can be transplanted, with a chance of retaining its original ability 16. |
