Background / History

Naming and Independent Operations

Qi Yuan gave this Wood Clone the name Yanling while extracting the Four-Tails, declaring that it would travel the world under that identity. Before the extraction finished, Cangnan emerged through Kamui and stole some of the tailed beast’s power. Yanling nevertheless became the Four-Tails jinchūriki 81 82.

Unlike most of Qi Yuan’s earlier Wood Clones, which exhausted their chakra in battle, Yanling remained active after becoming a jinchūriki. Qi Yuan later supplied him with two culture jars and sent him to capture Yun Ce, who was to be brought back to Yu Province to answer for Yunlong’s death 86 88.

By his mission in Lei Province, Yanling and Hongye were physical incarnations containing portions of Qi Yuan’s consciousness. Their thoughts were not continuously synchronized, but both possessed Qi Yuan’s mind and consciousness 95.

Raid on the Freemasons

Yanling located the Freemasons’ underground headquarters through Wood Release sensing and flooded the site with lava. Yun Ce diverted some of the attack into Kamui, inadvertently destroying equipment Cangnan had stored there. The disturbance also attracted Lei Province’s Guardians, who identified Yanling as Qi Yuan 95.

Yanling trapped Yun Ce in Tsukuyomi, then fought Amber, the Foreign Race being occupying Gu Huan’s body. Amber’s White Rage Technique disrupted his Susanoo and enabled a temporary sealing with Planetary Devastation. Yanling escaped using the Four-Tails’ power, formed Majestic Attire: Susanoo, and overwhelmed his opponent with sage-enhanced Lava Release 96 98.

After suppressing Gu Huan and Amber, Yanling collected the Rinnegan and Kamui Sharingan. He handed the battered Yun Ce to Lei Province’s Guardians for transport to Yu Province, then intended to test whether the captured eyes could help release Qi Yuan’s trapped true body 99.

Desolate Heaven City

Yanling intervened against Huang Tian with his newly acquired Rinnegan. After Black Zetsu possessed Huang Tian, Yanling ordered White Zetsu to supply the chakra needed for Rinne Rebirth. The technique restored the dead of Desolate Heaven City but killed Huang Tian; Hongye collected his eyes 106 107.

Yanling explained the resurrection to the survivors and volunteered to deal with Yu Province’s remaining S-Rank Secret Realm Spaces. His subsequent meteor strikes prompted observers to deduce that Qi Yuan’s true body also possessed the Rinnegan 107 108.

Cangnan and the Divided Ten-Tails

Yanling and Hongye allowed Cangnan to complete the Ten-Tails Coffin Seal, then fought him after his transformation. They combined Flying Thunder God, Six Paths-powered Susanoo, and enormous Susanoo-clad Kannon statues to resist him 113 115 116.

The pair wore Cangnan down and sealed him temporarily with Planetary Devastation. Yanling then feigned helplessness when caught by a Ten-Tails chakra arm. Black Zetsu betrayed Cangnan, and Yanling escaped with a sage-enhanced Rasenshuriken before beginning the Ten-Tails extraction 118 119.

After taking Cangnan’s Rinnegan, Yanling divided the Ten-Tails with Hongye. Gu Huan seized Hongye’s body, while Black Zetsu attempted to possess Yanling during his transformation. Yanling’s consciousness resisted and eventually expelled Black Zetsu, completing his advancement to Six Paths level 119 120 121 122.

Infinite Tsukuyomi and Kaguya

When Gu Huan cast Infinite Tsukuyomi, Yanling teleported to Yu Wang and sheltered the nearby group within Perfect Susanoo. He subsequently fought Gu Huan, exploiting his difficulty controlling Hongye’s borrowed body. The Seventh Gate and Daytime Tiger gave Yanling the advantage before Black Zetsu intervened to bring about Kaguya’s resurrection 122 123 124.

Kaguya sought to reclaim the half-Ten-Tails inside Yanling. Her attacks shattered his Truth-Seeking Orbs and Susanoo, and she later dragged him into her ice dimension, cutting off his access to outside Flying Thunder God marks and his connection to Qi Yuan’s true body 125 127.

Facing defeat, Yanling opened the Gate of Death. Night Guy broke through Kaguya’s Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack and drove her hundreds of meters underground. The Ten-Tails kept Yanling alive, but his body burned and carbonized while continually regenerating. Qi Yuan caught him, stabilized his injuries, and moved him through Kamui so he could return to the outside world 128.

Devil Fruit World

Yanling later entered the Devil Fruit World through Kamui, using spatial information left by a Door-Door Fruit user. He chose to visit Gu Zimei and Kurama before addressing the powerful chakra signatures near the God Tree 173.

He rescued Gu Zimei from the old emperors, healed Kurama, and killed the Paw-Paw Fruit user with a Truth-Seeking Orb. After draining the other emperors with Wood Release, he killed the Qian Emperor so Gu Zimei could steal the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika 178 179.

Yanling’s investigation of a golden figure triggered the Sun God’s awakening. He immediately attacked the awakened being, who escaped. Soon afterward, Yanling’s Limbo Clone intercepted an interdimensional fishhook aimed at Gu Zimei; its eventual return supplied information that strengthened his interest in exploring the wider universe 181 183.

Yanling then supplied energy for Gu Zimei’s seven-attribute Chimera Technique fusion, helping her reach Six Paths level. He transported her and Kurama to the Great Yan Empire to obtain further energy from the God Tree, and continued assisting her until Qian Xian attacked them 183 188.

Origin Demon God Revelation

Yanling arrived through a black doorway with Hongye, Gu Zimei, Kaguya, and her sons as the Origin Demon God’s Law Incarnations waited for the remaining consciousness to awaken. The incarnations reacted to Yanling and Hongye. Tianxiang imprisoned Hongye’s spirit, but Yanling merged into the darkness, after which the incarnations spread across the universe and destroyed some worlds. Aizen then revealed Qi Yuan’s identity as the Origin Demon God 199.

Appearance

  • Resemblance to Qi Yuan: Yun Ce and the Lei Province Guardians initially recognized him as Qi Yuan; Gu Zimei likewise recognized his face 95 178.
  • Eyes: Displayed Three-Tomoe Sharingan, implanted Mangekyō Sharingan, and later a pair of purple Rinnegan 95 96 119 179.
  • Six Paths transformation: Snow-white hair, five orbiting Truth-Seeking Orbs, and a Six Paths Staff bearing the symbol of yin power 121.
  • Horns: Noted by the old emperors during his arrival in Great Qian 178.
  • Eight Gates effects: Blue chakra steam accompanied the Seventh Gate; the Gate of Death turned his body red and surrounded it with blood vapor 123 127 128.

Personality

Yanling shares Qi Yuan’s confidence and tactical knowledge. He recognizes weaknesses in unfamiliar opponents’ use of powerful techniques, exploits Shinra Tensei’s cooldown, and feigns vulnerability to draw Cangnan into a trap. His calm response to Black Zetsu’s repeated betrayals contrasts with the latter’s expectation of surprise or anger 98 118 124.

He is protective toward Qi Yuan’s allies. He shelters Yu Wang’s group from Infinite Tsukuyomi, reassures his teacher, heals Kurama, and supports Gu Zimei’s advancement. When Gu Zimei hesitates over a personal secret, he tells her that having secrets of her own is normal 122 178 183.

His confidence does not make him invulnerable to misjudgment. After using the Gate of Death, he admits that he underestimated its side effects and the pain it would cause 128.

Abilities & Skills

Incarnation Physiology and Consciousness

Yanling develops beyond an ordinary expendable Wood Clone into a persistent physical incarnation 86 95.

  • Possesses part of Qi Yuan’s consciousness and operates independently rather than sharing continuously synchronized thoughts 95.
  • Can use sage arts already learned by Qi Yuan’s original body 98.
  • Resists Black Zetsu’s possession through the strength of his consciousness, even while contending with the Ten-Tails 120 121.
  • Combines the Four-Tails’ power with strong regeneration to restore damage to his tailed beast form and Susanoo 98.

Sharingan and Susanoo

Implanted Mangekyō Sharingan allow Yanling to manifest abilities beyond the projected Susanoo he previously borrowed from Qi Yuan 96.

  • Tsukuyomi: Traps Yun Ce in an illusion in which Yunlong repeatedly attacks him 96.
  • Wine-red Perfect Susanoo: Bears fiery-red wings, a large waist-mounted gourd, the Yata Mirror, and Yasakani no Magatama 96.
  • Majestic Attire: Susanoo: Armors the Four-Tails and withstands Amber’s Super Shinra Tensei 98.
  • Six Paths-powered Susanoo: Strikes Truth-Seeking Orbs and combines with True Several Thousand Hands 115 116.
  • Protective shelter: Shields dozens of people from Infinite Tsukuyomi’s light 122.
  • Limits: White Rage Technique disrupts its formation, while Kaguya’s attacks can shatter it 98 125.

Rinnegan and Limbo

Yanling obtains his Rinnegan through transplantation rather than awakening a personal pair 99 119.

  • Banshō Ten’in: Draws Huang Tian away from his opponent and later attracts the Sun God’s golden body 106 181.
  • Shinra Tensei: Repels the Paw-Paw Fruit user and destroys the collapsing floating island 178 179.
  • Planetary Devastation: Works with Hongye to seal Cangnan temporarily 118.
  • Tengai Shinsei: Calls down meteorites against hostile Secret Realm territory 108.
  • Human Path: Extracts the old emperors’ memories to learn about the Sun God 179.
  • Limbo: Border Jail: Produces shadows for combat, restraint, reconnaissance, and interception. His shadows have inferior duration and capabilities to Qi Yuan’s originals 127 173 179 181.

Tailed Beast Power and Six Paths Techniques

Yanling first uses the Four-Tails, then becomes the host of half the Ten-Tails 82 120.

  • Four-Tails transformation: Breaks out of Amber’s Planetary Devastation and fires a small Tailed Beast Bomb 98.
  • Truth-Seeking Orbs: Shapes them into defenses and attacks capable of erasing the Paw-Paw Fruit user. Later manifests more than a dozen against the awakened Sun God 179 181.
  • Six Paths Yang Power: Restores Kurama’s strength and provides a safeguard during Gu Zimei’s fusion experiment 178 183.
  • Ten-Tails suppression: Prevents Kaguya from reclaiming the beast within him 125.
  • Limits: His half-Ten-Tails power leaves him below Kaguya’s kekkei mōra tier. His yin-symbol staff alone does not grant the ability to perform Six Paths: Chibaku Tensei 125.

Wood Release and Senjutsu

Yanling uses Wood Release for sensing, restraint, large-scale combat, and energy transfer 95 116 179 183.

  • World of Trees Birth: Drains the old emperors’ life force; its absorbed energy later fuels Gu Zimei’s Chimera Technique 179 183.
  • True Several Thousand Hands: Creates a towering Kannon statue clad in enlarged Perfect Susanoo 116.
  • Lava Release Chakra Mode: Floods the Freemasons’ underground headquarters 95.
  • Sage Art, Lava Release: Flower-Fruit Mountain: Bombards Amber with enormous masses of lava 98.
  • Sage Art: Wind Release: Spiral Shuriken: Cuts through Cangnan’s Ten-Tails chakra arm 118.
  • Yin Release: Lightning Dispatch and Storm Release: Light Fang: Pressures Gu Huan and cuts through his Truth-Seeking Orb defense 123.
  • Defensive summons and seals: Uses Fivefold Rashomon and Gate of the Great God against Kaguya 127.

Space-Time Ninjutsu

Yanling employs Flying Thunder God for marked teleportation and implanted Kamui Sharingan for travel between spaces 116 119 173.

  • Coordinates Flying Thunder God movements with Hongye to evade Cangnan’s chakra hands 116.
  • Combines marked teleportation with Daytime Tiger to attack Gu Huan at close range 123.
  • Installs Kamui Sharingan in his hands and opens a route to the Devil Fruit World using known spatial coordinates 173.
  • Transports Gu Zimei and Kurama to the Great Yan Empire 183.
  • Limits: Flying Thunder God requires pre-existing marks and cannot freely cross unconnected spaces. Kaguya’s ice dimension initially cuts him off from outside marks 119 127.

Eight Gates of Limitless

Yanling uses the Eight Gates to amplify an already Six Paths-level body 123 127.

  • Seventh Gate — Daytime Tiger: Breaks through Gu Huan’s Truth-Seeking Orb defense 123.
  • Eighth Gate — Night Guy: Warps space, overpowers Kaguya’s Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack, and severely damages her body 128.
  • Cost: Causes extreme pain, burning, and carbonization. The Ten-Tails prevents death, but Yanling loses access to his full strength and requires substantial recuperation 128.
