  • Tirion Fordring urged the Lordaeron factions to set aside their disputes and assigned Reno to serve in the vanguard against the Scourge.
  • Fairbanks appeared at the monastery, and Reno and Alexandros Mograine recognized their long-lost adviser.
  • Fairbanks explained that Balnazzar and Isillien had manipulated Reno, imprisoned him as the sole witness, and kept him alive to provoke infighting within the Scarlet Crusade.
  • Alexandros mourned Fairbanks, while Fairbanks declared that the Scarlet Crusade could regain its former purpose and fight the Scourge.
  • Rotande Gili told the Silver Hand and Scarlet Crusade to leave Undercity, and Tirion led them back toward the Eastern Plaguelands.

Ch. 483Illidan's return

The Silver Hand received reports that Quel'Thalas was summoning Kil'jaeden, while Illidan returned to Azeroth and joined Patrick's preparations to stop the demon. Patrick urged Illidan to take responsibility for protecting his people and suggested that Eldre'Thalas might accept him.

  • Calia, Tirion Fordring, and the Silver Hand learned that Quel'Thalas was reportedly trying to summon Kil'jaeden, and Da'Han delivered Varian's request for them to contact Patrick Cabrolon.
  • Kael'thas, Patrick, and Vashj welcomed Illidan back to Azeroth, and Illidan praised Patrick for making Kil'jaeden's arrival possible.
  • Patrick explained that most preparations were complete but that the demons at Sun Eater Temple controlled the summoning ritual, and Illidan said they had a trump card.
  • Patrick asked Illidan whether he would protect his people, and Illidan said he felt rejected by his kin and indebted to his followers.
  • Patrick proposed that Illidan seek acceptance at Eldre'Thalas, where the Highborne did not reject demonic power, and Altruis and Loramus agreed.

Ch. 484Battle plan

Patrick offered Illidan an independent Highborne kingdom in Quel'Thalas in exchange for a united foreign policy, then organized a coalition plan to stop Kil'jaeden's summoning. The chapter ended with Illidan, Kael'thas, and Patrick preparing to attack the demons at the Sunwell as Azeroth's leaders arrived to meet Patrick.

  • Patrick offered Illidan the western district of Eldre'Dani and promised his Highborne kingdom autonomy, while requiring it to remain aligned with Quel'Thalas in foreign affairs.
  • Patrick inferred that Illidan still possessed water from the Well of Eternity, prompting Illidan to briefly threaten him before accepting the deduction.
  • Nochong reported that the Alliance and Horde leaders had arrived in Quelrins to meet Patrick and discuss Kil'jaeden.
  • Patrick proposed bringing the leaders to the Isle of Quel'Danas without their armies, then having island forces seize the island while the leaders fought through to the Sun Eater Temple.
  • Illidan confirmed that his forces, including Zuluhed and Mogor's Void Dragon armies, had returned and that they held the advantage in air and ground forces.

Ch. 485A secret plot in the tower

Patrick, Illidan, and their allies finalized their plans for the battle at the Sunwell and assigned forces to their targets. Patrick persuaded Vashj to guard Quel'Thalas’s shores with the naga, leaving the assault to begin when Sunlight City reached the Isle of Quel'Danas.

  • Patrick assigned Saragoss to attack Savasol the Corruptor and rescue Kalecgos, while Nochong and the Four Advisors were tasked with the eredar demons.
  • Patrick assigned Leotheras the Blind, Loramus, and Altruis to fight Brutallus, and Illidan arranged patrols and attacks on the Sunwell’s eastern approach.
  • Kael'thas assigned Duchess Malande and the Eclipse Burning Legion and Fire/Demon Sigil forces to attack from Morningstar Village.
  • Patrick tasked Vashj with leading the naga to guard Quel'Thalas’s surrounding waters, and she agreed after Illidan nodded.
  • Patrick proposed that the naga settle around Shalandis Isle and said construction would begin after the battle, despite the local murlocs.
  • Patrick declared that Sunlight City’s arrival at the Isle of Quel'Danas would signal the start of the plan.

Ch. 486The Black Dragon Princess's Arrangements

Patrick returned to Sunlight City and prepared to discuss future arrangements with representatives of Kul Tiras, the Wildhammer Dwarves, and Stromgarde. As he prepared for the talks, he confronted the captive Onyxia, who continued to taunt him and the blue dragons.

  • Patrick ordered Idonis to send the floating city toward Quelrins at full speed.
  • Alleria told Patrick that Tandred and Jaina Goldsword, Kurdran and Eri Thunderstrike, and Danath, Galin, and Duke Falconcrest had arrived for talks.

  • Patrick said Tandred, Galin, and Falstad needed his support against the Alliance's annexation, but he did not intend to annex their territories.
  • Patrick dismissed Onyxia's warning that Neltharion might attack Quel'Thalas, saying he welcomed the chance to help the blue dragons destroy him.
  • Patrick restricted Onyxia's movement and said he would give her a task after the incident, but she sneered at him and accused the blue dragons of hypocrisy.

Ch. 487Jaina Goldsword

Patrick subdued Onyxia’s hopes of conquering Stormwind City and warned her to obey his future orders. He then welcomed Jaina Goldsword and the other visitors aboard Sunlight City to discuss the pressures facing Quel'Thalas.

  • Onyxia taunted the Blue Dragons, and Kyrissa tried to attack her before Patrick’s Arcane Barrier stopped her.
  • Onyxia claimed she had planned to overthrow Stormwind City, but Patrick explained that even an alliance with Nefarian would not defeat the Alliance.
  • Onyxia realized that Krasus had broken her magic splitting Varian, and Patrick warned her that disobeying him would bring an unpleasant punishment.
  • Galind Shalong reported that Sunlight City had passed Elfgate, and Patrick went to meet the waiting visitors.
  • Patrick welcomed Jaina Goldsword, Tandred, Galin, and the others, then asked them to cooperate as Quel'Thalas faced pressure from the Alliance, the Horde, and neutral forces.

Ch. 488Azeroth Arcane Covenant

Patrick assured Danath, Tandred, Galin, and the Wildhammer Dwarves that Quel'Thalas would honor its promises after the battle against Kil'jaeden. He proposed forming the Azeroth Arcane Covenant to unite their nations and protect them from the Alliance and Horde.

  • Danath asked Patrick whether Quel'Thalas would fulfill the terms it had promised, and apologized after Idonis rebuked his choice of words.
  • Patrick promised that the agreements would stand and described how the Alliance and Horde threatened the smaller nations gathered in Quel'Thalas.
  • Tandred and Galin explained how Stormwind and Theramore were drawing away Kul Tiras's and Stromgarde's people, while the Stormpike Dwarves had tried to bring the Wildhammer Dwarves under Ironforge's rule.
  • Patrick proposed creating the Azeroth Arcane Covenant and outlined how teleportation circles, an underground railway, the repaired Thandol Span, and their navies could unite and defend the northern territories.
  • Danath suggested inviting Lordaeron's remaining people to join the new alliance under the Kingdom of Lordaeron's name.

Ch. 489The major decisions were settled

Patrick and Danath settled plans for a Northern Continent alliance and agreed that the Arcane Pact would remain neutral while opposing Dalaran and its affiliated organizations. Patrick promised food aid and urged the Wildhammer Dwarves to open a passage to Aerie Peak, then the floating city docked outside Quelrins as leaders of the Alliance and Horde awaited him.

  • Patrick explained how cooperation between Quel'Thalas, human kingdoms, and the Wildhammer Dwarves could rebuild the Northern Continent and strengthen their kingdoms.
  • Patrick and the others agreed that the Arcane Pact would stay neutral in Alliance-Horde disputes and treat Dalaran and its affiliated organizations as their common enemies.
  • Patrick promised initial food shipments after the Sunwell incident, and Galin and Falstad thanked him.
  • Patrick asked the Wildhammer Dwarves to help open the connecting gorge between Caer Darrow Island and Aerie Peak, and they agreed.
  • Patrick proposed building a third power from Quel'Thalas, Stromgarde, Kul Tiras, Coldarra, Aerie Peak, and possible allies including Alterac, giving Duke Falconcrest hope of restoring his kingdom.
  • The floating city docked outside Quelrins, where Hawkspear and the Alliance and Horde leadership awaited Patrick.

Ch. 490A battle of words

Patrick arrived in Quelrins with powerful allies and Regba, the Lynx Spirit, to confront the Alliance and Horde leaders over Kil'jaeden’s planned summoning. After confirming the threat, he challenged Jaina to explain what authority gave her a place at the meeting, leaving her position politically precarious.

  • Patrick entered Quelrins with Tandred, Galin, Danath, Falstad, and Regba, whose presence impressed the assembled leaders.
  • Hawkspear told Patrick that Varian, Thrall, and other faction leaders had arrived, with large Alliance and Horde forces camped outside the city.
  • Tirion Fordring asked Patrick to verify reports about Kil'jaeden, and Patrick confirmed that demons on the Isle of Quel'Danas were preparing to summon him.
  • Jaina, Tyrande, and others condemned the plan, while Patrick asked Jaina whether she attended as an Alliance leader, a Horde leader, Theramore's queen, or a Kirin Tor representative.

Ch. 491At loggerheads

Patrick defended Quel'Thalas against threats from the Alliance and Horde while urging them to address Kil'jaeden's arrival. After Thrall broke the deadlock, Patrick revealed that demons had seized the Isle of Quel'Danas and were summoning Kil'jaeden.

  • Jaina asked how the leaders could stop Kil'jaeden, and Velen insisted they must prevent his arrival.
  • Varian warned Patrick that Quel'Thalas risked facing all of Azeroth, and Patrick challenged the Alliance over its armies still being in Outland.
  • Tyrande threatened Quel'Thalas, but Patrick treated her words as a declaration of war and refused to back down.
  • Thrall called on the leaders to hear Patrick's proposal, easing the stalemate.
  • Patrick told the leaders that demons had seized the Isle of Quel'Danas and were summoning Kil'jaeden while Kael'thas and Illidan monitored them.

Ch. 492An unqualified persuader

Patrick rejected Dalaran and the Alliance’s attempt to turn him against Kael’thas and Quel’Thalas, then prepared to confront Kil’jaeden with Lordaeron’s aid. He invited Tyrande and the other representatives to witness the mission from his Floating City, but limited the invitation to them and their attendants.

  • Rhonin and Jaina urged Patrick to lead Quel’Thalas against Kael’thas and the supposed traitors, while Horde and Alliance leaders welcomed the prospect of elven civil war.
  • Patrick declared Kael’thas the rightful king, reaffirmed his role as acting Regent, and warned the Alliance and Horde against invading Quel’Thalas.
  • Alonsus Faol arrived, apologized for Arthas’s actions, and discussed Quel’Thalas’s plans to confront the Scourge and Kil’jaeden.
  • Patrick confirmed that he had planned to go to the Isle of Quel’Danas, and Tirion Fordring agreed to help him with the Order of the Silver Hand.
  • Patrick offered Tyrande and the other representatives a chance to accompany his Floating City to the Isle of Quel’Danas, allowing only them and their attendants.

Ch. 493Interlude

Patrick brought the leaders of the Alliance and Horde to Sunlight City, where Velen and Brandan objected to blood elf warlocks draining shadow power from K'ure. Patrick defended the practice and used K'ure's ability to absorb demon soul shards to challenge the draenei's view of the naaru, leaving suspicion hanging over the gathering.

  • Varian, Jaina, Tyrande, Thrall, and their followers decided to go after Patrick and his group to the Isle of Quel'Danas.
  • Patrick used a flash of white light to bring everyone to Sunlight City, whose luxury astonished the visitors.
  • Velen and Brandan condemned the warlocks gathered around K'ure for siphoning shadow power from the naaru.
  • Patrick warned Velen and Brandan not to attack in Sunfury Spire, then argued that naaru were elemental creatures of both light and shadow.
  • At Patrick's order, Hui Li offered K'ure demon soul shards, and K'ure absorbed them to replenish his energy.
  • Patrick questioned Velen about the naaru's true nature and used the demonstration to encourage distrust of the naaru and the draenei.

Ch. 494The Battle of the Sunwell (Part One)

Patrick brought Velen and the other leaders toward the Isle of Quel'Danas as his forces launched a surprise attack on the demons guarding it. While the island's perimeter fell, powerful allies fought the demons inside the Sun Eater Temple, clearing the way for the assault to come.

  • Patrick warned Velen that attacking him in Sunfury Spire would be dangerous because he could command the Floating City's magical defenses.
  • Galind Shalong told Patrick that the Floating City had reached the Isle of Quel'Danas and that the plan was underway.
  • Blood Elves, Fel Orcs, Naga, Night Elves, and Void Dragons turned on the demons and began clearing the island's perimeter.

  • Patrick arrived at Morningstar Village with the others, where Kael'thas and Illidan were waiting outside the still-unbreached Sun Eater Temple.
  • Tyrande confronted Illidan and demanded an explanation for his role in the events on the Isle of Quel'Danas.
  • Illidan told Tyrande that he intended to end the Burning Crusade and use the corrupted Sunwell to destroy Kil'jaeden.
  • Krasus, Thrall, and Jaina challenged Illidan's plan, but he warned that the Dark Portal could not safely be closed or destroyed and that demons would otherwise overrun Azeroth.
  • Illidan revealed that he had accepted Regent Patrick's proposal to summon Kil'jaeden, leaving the others to realize that Patrick had been behind the plan all along.

Ch. 496The mastermind behind the scenes

Patrick defended his plan to summon Kil'jaeden and accused the Kirin Tor and red dragons of contributing to Azeroth's peril, then offered the Alliance and Horde leaders a ship back to King's Harbor. He expected them to remain near the Sunwell while his forces handled the crisis, but arranged their passage to keep them away until the battle was nearly over.

  • Patrick told Jaina, Rhonin, and Krasus that their use of arcane magic had weakened Azeroth's defenses and helped demons enter the world.
  • Krasus condemned the plan to summon Kil'jaeden, and Patrick accused the red dragons of favoring Dalaran and secretly seeking control of Azeroth.
  • Patrick suggested that the red dragons intended to help Kael'thas seize Quel'Thalas and eventually unite Azeroth under their rule.
  • Tyrande stopped the argument, and Patrick offered the leaders the Unicorn Fleet's flagship to take them back to King's Harbor.
  • Patrick arranged for the naga and elves to escort and monitor the leaders during a six-hour voyage, keeping them away until the Battle of the Sunwell was nearly over.

Ch. 497The final move

Patrick and the remaining leaders prepared for the decisive battle against Kil'jaeden at the Sunwell, while Patrick left instructions for the kingdom and established a deadly contingency plan. He entered the Sun Eater Temple with Kael'thas and the others as his allies stood ready to defend Quel'Thalas or die carrying out his final safeguard.

  • Everyone rejected Patrick's proposal to avoid the crisis, and the forces prepared to advance on the Sunwell Plateau.
  • Patrick asked Alleria to return to Sunlight City, but she insisted on facing the danger with him; Patrick entrusted Patterson with the kingdom's plans and said farewell to his family.
  • Patrick sent the weaker fighters and Tirion Fordring back to the Floating City, while Vashj led the Naga into the sea and the others moved toward the Sun Eater Temple.
  • Patrick told Hui Li and Liadrin to prepare a contingency in which the Naaru would become Entropius and a Holy Light-fueled spatial explosion would destroy the temple if the battle went badly.
  • Hui Li, Liadrin, and the Illidari Council accepted the lethal mission, while Kael'thas insisted on joining Patrick in the decisive battle against Kil'jaeden.
  • The Four Council won the dispute over who would remain on the Isle of Quel'Danas, and Patrick, Kael'thas, and the others headed into the Sun Eater Temple.

Ch. 498The Battle of the Sunwell (Part Two)

The coalition forces reached the Sun Eater Temple and confronted Kil'jaeden as his summoning began. Patrick revealed that Ras'lekh had completed a task for him, then the battle started with the heroes blocking Kil'jaeden's opening attacks.

  • Patrick blasted open the sealed temple doors, and the coalition found the entrance deserted.
  • Patrick and Alleria studied murals recounting Quel'Thalas's history before Kil'jaeden announced his plan to destroy the world.
  • Tyrande recognized Kil'jaeden's voice, and the coalition hurried to the Sunwell, where they saw him beginning to emerge.
  • Kil'jaeden accused Illidan and Kael'thas of betraying him, while Patrick revealed that Ras'lekh had carried out a secret task for him.
  • Kil'jaeden attacked Patrick and the coalition with Soul Lash, lightning, and flames, but Patrick, Thrall, and Kael'thas blocked the attacks.

Ch. 499Fierce battle with Kil'jaeden

Kil'jaeden attacked the Azeroth Coalition Forces with shadow magic and mirror images, but Velen, Patrick, and the other spellcasters found ways to counter his attacks. As Kil'jaeden emerged further from the Sunwell, he prepared to unleash the Burning Legion's full strength.

  • Tyrande attacked Kil'jaeden, who answered with shadow spikes that Velen blocked behind a Holy Light barrier.
  • Kil'jaeden created mirror images of the Coalition Forces and sent them into the ranks, plunging the temple into chaos.
  • Ellen advised Patrick to reinforce his Mana Shield and use Flames Enveloping the Body, and Patrick destroyed his own and Alleria's mirror images.
  • Patrick warned the Coalition Forces that the mirror images were magical constructs, and Velen, Alonsus Faol, Thrall, Hamuul, and other spellcasters dispelled them.
  • The Coalition Forces exposed and defeated the mirror images while their dispels cracked Kil'jaeden's Shield Orbs.
  • Kil'jaeden emerged as far as his chest and announced that he would show them the Burning Legion's true strength.

Ch. 500Schemes within schemes within schemes

  • Patrick signaled Saragoss, Kael'thas, and Illidan to attack the Sunwell while Kil'jaeden gathered energy, but her fel shield blocked their spells.
  • Kil'jaeden cast Doomsday Showdown at Patrick, and the Discs of Norgannon stopped the Doom Meteorite, though its blast collapsed much of the Sun Eater Temple and disarmed Alleria.
  • Patrick sacrificed his defenses and launched a triple composite spell that broke through Kil'jaeden's barrier and triggered a massive explosion in the Sunwell.
  • Tyrande, Hamuul, Rotande Gili, Kael'thas, and Illidan shielded themselves and others from the blast as the temple collapsed.
  • Kil'jaeden emerged unharmed and revealed that she had expected the attack and prepared for it, thanking Illidan, Kael'thas, and Patrick for helping her reach Azeroth.

Ch. 501Reversal

Patrick faced certain defeat as Kil'jaeden survived the Sunwell's explosion and revealed the gap between demigods, false gods, and true gods. Elune intervened to save him and strike Kil'jaeden, exposing her identity and leaving Patrick convinced that she had a plan he would never accept.

  • Kil'jaeden emerged farther from the Sunwell and explained that demigods commanded the world's rules, false gods could distort them, and true gods could create them.
  • Kil'jaeden attacked the exhausted Patrick with fel fire, but silvery-white energy shielded him from the flames.
  • Patrick suspected Ellen was a true god as the shield stopped Kil'jaeden's next attack and pierced her shoulder.
  • Ellen admitted she was Elune and said she had intervened because Kil'jaeden had prepared for the battle.
  • Patrick connected Elune to past events involving his powers, Archaedas, Medivh, and the Bronze Dragons, then concluded that she had concealed her identity and pursued a plan he would oppose.
