Background / History

Origins and the Succubus Clan

Ruiqi was among the first life forms born in Hell and remembers the period before its resources became severely strained. She does not track her age: unlike the Royal Family, her people devote no resources to measuring time because immediate survival takes priority 606.

As the Succubus Clan’s leader, she struggled to protect a race near the bottom of the Neutral Faction’s power hierarchy. Her membership in that faction was forced rather than freely chosen. The disparity between her clan and Hell’s stronger races became her overriding concern 523.

Night later reveals that the Succubus Clan descended from her and Iswama, making Ruiqi one of her descendants 1457.

Recruitment by Lu Xiao

At Gentleman’s Paradise, Ruiqi explains how the Super Dreamscape draws out visitors’ deepest desires. Lu Xiao confronts her about luring his group into the settlement and identifies her as the clan’s deity despite her concealed aura 520 521.

Lu Xiao then uses an ability tied to something valuable she accepted from him to prevent her from lying. He combines this coercion with a warning that stronger Neutral Faction races could sacrifice the succubi to appease their enemies. Unable to risk a battle inside her settlement, Ruiqi offers her entire clan’s worship—including her own—if he will help her kill a deity 522 523.

After witnessing the fate of the Flame Demon Clan, she abandons thoughts of breaking their agreement. Lu Xiao’s proposed intelligence organization subsequently convinces her that cooperation could give the succubi lasting resources and protection rather than mere dependence on a temporary patron 530 537.

Alliance and Clan Reforms

Ruiqi receives Lu Xiao’s honorific name, Man-made Calamity, and instructions for contacting him. Although she initially pledges trust in his arrangements, his disappearance leaves her frightened that she has gambled her clan’s future on someone who may be dead 539 567.

She later accepts Antioch’s wager that he can raise the clan’s strength by one tier within two months. He stakes one hundred million cubic meters of fresh water against a token one cubic meter from her. Despite Calamity’s warning, she agrees and temporarily hands over authority 607 619.

Antioch ends the clan’s existing businesses, concentrates resources on stronger combatants, and disperses ordinary succubi among the Wilderness tribes. Ruiqi initially fears for the women sent away, but eventually recognizes that dispersal also protects them from attacks on the settlement 619 625 666.

During preparations to announce the Holy City alliance, Yi Hao makes clear that the clan has little freedom to change sides. Their enemies already associate them with the Holy City, leaving its resources and military assistance essential to their survival 665 666.

Ascension and Night’s Possession

After eating divine flesh, Ruiqi isolates herself in a sealed Containment Room aboard Zhou to digest its energy without affecting the human soldiers outside 780.

Lu Xiao finds her apparently out of control, emitting desire far beyond her usual capabilities. Her body becomes grotesque, and the consciousness controlling her invokes him through his honorific names. He brings her into the Divine Hall and recognizes that the speaker is not Ruiqi 781 782.

Ruiqi awakens without remembering the possession. She subsequently confirms her Ascension, but remains unaware of Night’s involvement until Lu Xiao explains it later. He suspects the divine flesh as a possible point of contact, though the other diners experienced no comparable problem 784 787 856.

Return to the Settlement

Ruiqi asks to return to her clan’s settlement because some dispersed succubi may have failed to find homes elsewhere. Lu Xiao permits her to leave, warning that Outsiders might target her 856.

Her concern proves justified: ordinary succubi unable to integrate into Wanderer clans have returned with nowhere else to go. Ruiqi stays because she cannot abandon them. The settlement also continues serving as a meeting place where visitors can reach Lu Xiao through her 882 994.

Preservation and a New Body

When Ruiqi’s faith sphere merges with Night’s, Lu Xiao can no longer summon her into the Divine Hall. Night later appears in Ruiqi’s form with transdimensional power; this is Night acting through the body, not a demonstrated advancement by Ruiqi herself 1109 1111.

Night preserves rather than erases Ruiqi. Because Ruiqi’s consciousness is too weak to remain safe otherwise, Night moves it into her own consciousness space. Their minds do not fuse, and Night does not automatically acquire Ruiqi’s memories. Ruiqi nevertheless repeatedly recounts her history with Lu Xiao to her 1457.

Night eventually nurtures two new bodies: one houses Ruiqi’s consciousness, while the other contains a portion of Night’s consciousness and takes the name Dolores. Ruiqi resumes accompanying Lu Xiao, later quietly carrying his fishing bucket and holding an umbrella for him while others compete for his attention 1500 1508.

Appearance

Ruiqi closely resembles a human woman, with a tall, slender figure and fair skin. Her pointed ears, ram-like horns, and succubus tail distinguish her from humans 604 720.

  • Eyes: Described as beautiful and limpid; she maintains an unusually calm gaze even when Lu Xiao initially grabs her throat 520.
  • Figure: Her fitted evening gown prominently accentuates her waist and curves 538.
  • Signature clothing: A black, translucent-gauze evening gown designed by Yi Hao, with cutouts at the waist 538.
  • Public presentation: Comfortable displaying her beauty before a crowd; the attention at the alliance press conference does not embarrass her 665.

Personality

Ruiqi’s strongest commitment is to her people’s survival. She initially refuses to gamble their future on Lu Xiao’s promises, fears the casualties a fight inside the settlement would cause, and later returns to care for clan members who cannot survive elsewhere 523 882. That protectiveness can become ruthless: she considers killing a possible threat preferable to endangering the entire race for one member 566.

Her long experience does not make her an effective strategist. Antioch’s and Yi Hao’s analyses repeatedly expose consequences she has overlooked, eventually leading her to question whether she is suited to leadership. Relinquishing daily management noticeably relieves her, to the point that she considers extending Antioch’s tenure 620 722 733.

Around Lu Xiao, Ruiqi is playful, flirtatious, and sometimes frustrated by his resistance to her advances. Nevertheless, Lu Xiao recognizes that her normal behavior is more restrained than Night’s conduct while possessing her 620 723 782. She can also become openly spiteful when challenged, as shown by her escalating insults toward Liu Ni 820 821 822.

She admires humanity’s unity and willingness to fight despite physical weakness, recognizing qualities she wishes her own clan possessed 829.

Abilities & Skills

Authority of Desire

Ruiqi wields Desire, an Authority she initially treats as a deity’s closely guarded secret before revealing it to Lu Xiao’s trusted companions 605.

  • Can overwhelm Wanderers with desire, often through a single glance 827.
  • Bewitches a pursuing deity simply by showing herself, leaving him submerged in desire 796.
  • Is not always immediately effective in combat; against a God, she watches for an opening rather than landing an instant effect 800.
  • The extreme amplification and grotesque transformation during the Containment Room incident occur under Night’s possession and should not be attributed to Ruiqi’s ordinary capabilities 781 782 784.

Charm and Seductive Pheromones

Ruiqi naturally emits an alluring aura and seductive pheromones. The strength of her charm increases after Ascension 781 787.

  • Her deliberate use of charm produces intense physical reactions in Lu Xiao and Calamity, even when it does not secure their cooperation 723.
  • Lu Xiao and Antioch resist her attempts well enough to make her question her own allure 723.
  • Her Chinese instructor is blind and has a perception impairment, allowing an ordinary staff member to work around her constant aura 856.

Super Dreamscape

Ruiqi explains that Gentleman’s Paradise stimulates desires already buried within a visitor’s heart, rather than freely selecting the visitor’s experiences 520.

  • Its appeal is not limited to males; creatures of either sex can become unwilling to leave 521.
  • Satisfying one desire gives rise to further desires, sustaining repeated immersion 521.
  • Her explanation does not establish that she directly reads memories or controls every dream scenario 520.

Succubus Contract

Ruiqi can enter a Succubus Contract, through which the weaker participant can rapidly reach the stronger participant’s ontological rank. For a succubus, this can bypass her own Godhood Ritual 796.

  • Contract formation requires sexual intimacy, rather than a simple spoken agreement 796.
  • Ruiqi has no existing contract when Lu Xiao asks her about it 796.
  • Lu Xiao declines to proceed, fearing the personal responsibility it would create toward her clan. Ruiqi later asks whether signing with him is still possible; no completed contract is established in these passages 797 828.

Languages and Knowledge

  • Hell’s language: Her original language; Lu Xiao initially translates for her during meetings with humans 606.
  • Chinese: Learns Chinese while staying at the facility and converses with Lu Xiao in Mandarin 856.
  • Hell’s history: Knows the Royal Family scripture’s account of Hell forming from a fallen being’s corpse and personally remembers its early resource conditions 605 606.
  • Intelligence coordination: Maintains contact with dispersed succubi and relays reports about political developments across Hell 733.

Equipment / Items

  • Yi Hao’s evening gown — A specially designed black gown that becomes Ruiqi’s characteristic outfit. Its craftsmanship attracts particular attention in Hell, where clothing materials are scarce and fine garments signify status 538 665.
  • Blood-written contact ritual — Lu Xiao teaches her to contact him by writing a Chinese sentence in blood 539.

Relationships

  • Lu Xiao — Patron, object of worship, and romantic interest. Their relationship begins with coercion and bargaining but develops into trust and personal attachment. She says she wants a contract because he is handsome; he suspects she also wants to bind him more firmly to protecting her clan 523 539 797 828.
  • Antioch — Temporary administrator of her clan. His reforms initially alarm her, but she comes to recognize their protective purpose and the gap between his strategic judgment and hers 607 625 666 722.
  • Amilia — Adviser and intelligence contact. Ruiqi consults him about Lu Xiao’s warnings, political developments, and the safety of her dispersed clanswomen 570 588 607 625.
  • Calamity — Protector and intermediary. She is grateful that he draws hostile forces away from the settlement; he also warns her about Antioch’s wager and listens to her questions about Lu Xiao 588 607 828.
  • Yi Hao — Holy City liaison and designer of her gown. His assistance comes with blunt warnings and political pressure that Ruiqi recognizes as forcing her clan into dependence 538 665 666.
  • Night / Dolores — Ancestor and former possessor. Night preserves Ruiqi’s consciousness and later gives it a separate body; Dolores and Ruiqi subsequently accompany Lu Xiao together 1457 1500.
  • Liu Ni — Antagonistic rival around Lu Xiao. Their first encounter at his bedside escalates into insults and arguments over Ruiqi’s proposed contract 820 821 822.
  • Futiya — A highly valued clanswoman whom Ruiqi calls the clan’s finest member and its strongest prospective candidate for deification 671.
