Background / History
Appointment as the Holy Son’s Guard
Xie Yue, Hu Liena, and Yan were received by Bibi Dong as outstanding representatives of Spirit Hall Academy. Outside the Pope’s Palace, Qian Renxing crashed into Yan with his tricycle, prompting Yan to insult him. Xie Yue recognized the boy as Spirit Hall’s Holy Son and pointed out that an ordinary child would not be allowed to ride freely through its restricted grounds 4 5.
After Yan was imprisoned, Bibi Dong appointed Hu Liena as Qian Renxing’s maid and Xie Yue as his personal guard. Xie Yue welcomed the appointment, recognizing both the Pope’s affection for her son and the prospects of serving someone who might eventually become Pope himself 6 7.
His duties quickly became hazardous: he repeatedly chased Qian Renxing through Spirit Hall alongside Hu Liena and Sisi, unable to catch the speeding tricycle. The attendants feared being held responsible if the Holy Son suffered even a minor injury 7 8 9.
Creation of the Holy Chronicle
At Qian Renxing’s command, Xie Yue helped collect whale rubber and firewood for a vast boiling pot. When the Holy Son jumped into the melted whale rubber and emerged unharmed, Xie Yue interpreted the incident as a holy miracle 18 21.
Using a piece of wood saved from the firewood, he carved The Holy Son Stands with his Moon Blade. He also began a written account titled the Holy Chronicle. Impressed, Qian Renxing appointed him his clerk and “right hand,” charging him with preserving his deeds, sayings, and miracles. Qian Renxing further promised to make him Heavenly Scribe if he someday became God King; this was a future promise, not an attained divine position 21.
The account preserved the embarrassing rumor about Qian Daoliu’s impotence. When the Great Enshrined demanded its removal, Xie Yue refused—and recorded the demand itself. His carving subsequently received unanimous approval for worldwide reproduction, while copies began circulating in Spirit City 21 29.
Promotion of the God of Shit and Piss
Xie Yue recorded Qian Renxing’s public toilet demonstration and advice about farting as sacred history. He defended these subjects as containing the ultimate truths of heaven and earth, openly supporting the Holy Son’s ambition to become the God of Shit and Piss 33 34.
When Qian Daoliu promoted the competing title of Tricycle God, Xie Yue unveiled The Holy Son’s Flush. He argued that the flush toilet demonstrated Qian Renxing’s wisdom, then interpreted its operation as a sacred ritual symbolizing the cleansing of the world’s filth. His explanation won the crowd’s support and Qian Renxing’s praise 36 37.
On his second day compiling the Holy Chronicle, Xie Yue recorded Qian Renxing’s breakfast invitation to Su Yuntao as evidence of generosity toward subordinates. He later added Su Yuntao’s citywide toilet-shaped topiary tribute and retrospectively credited him with a question previously attributed to an unnamed resident 41 42.
Personality
Xie Yue initially approaches service to Qian Renxing with political awareness. He understands the advantages of proximity to the Holy Son, accepts Bibi Dong’s appointment readily, and avoids challenging Sisi because of her established position as Qian Renxing’s trusted attendant 7 9.
After witnessing the whale-rubber incident, he displays fervent devotion. He weeps over supposed miracles, treats Qian Renxing’s approval as profoundly meaningful, and searches for sacred significance in ordinary actions and casual remarks. Unlike his earlier deference to authority, his commitment as Holy Clerk leads him to argue directly with Qian Daoliu 21 33 37.
He insists that he will record the truth without changing a word, but his chronicle reflects his worshipful interpretation of events. His later reassignment of the anonymous resident’s question to Su Yuntao also conflicts with that stated commitment to accuracy 21 42.
