History

Acting Pope and Rivalry with Bibi Dong

Qian Lingyun admired Qian Xunji from childhood and regarded him as both her role model and the person she loved most. His preference for Bibi Dong became the focus of her jealousy 118.

She brought Yu Xiaogang into Spirit Hall as its orphanage director and promised him library access. Her intention was to make the grieving Bibi Dong fall for him after reports of Long Qianming’s death, removing Bibi Dong as a romantic rival. The scheme failed: Bibi Dong repeatedly clashed with Yu Xiaogang and eventually entered seclusion 83 110.

While temporarily exercising the Pope’s authority, Qian Lingyun identified Long Qianming from a portrait circulated after the Azure Nether Sect’s destruction. She ordered Spirit Hall’s branches to capture him, permitted killing him if he resisted, confined Bibi Dong for objecting, and instructed Salas to alert the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan secretly 96.

Qian Xunji later accused her of allowing Yu Xiaogang to influence Bibi Dong. Desperate to disprove any romantic attachment to Yu Xiaogang, she kicked him unconscious and attempted to kill him. Qian Xunji stopped her, confined her, and expelled him from Spirit Hall 110.

Rejected Engagement and Assassination Schemes

Qian Daoliu considered Qian Lingyun’s talent and administrative achievements sufficient to make her a suitable wife for Qian Xunji. After she awakened the Black Level Six Trials, he proposed that they marry once she reached level eighty. Qian Xunji rejected the arrangement, while Qian Lingyun concealed her humiliation and resolved to kill Bibi Dong 114.

After accusing Qian Lingyun of spying on him, Qian Xunji attacked her in his secret chamber. She threw a packet of “poison” at him, and both fell under its effects. She subsequently offered to help Bibi Dong escape, supplied her with a Soul-Avoiding Pill and night clothes, and escorted her through a secret passage before signaling waiting guards to act 118.

When the hired Soul Hunting group was wiped out, Qian Lingyun ordered her maid to recruit stronger hunters. By then pregnant, she declared that she and her daughter no longer needed the man who did not love them 123.

At the Hundred Sects Grand Competition, she represented Spirit Hall among the presiding powers. She recognized Bibi Dong despite her disguise and offered Feng Bao Douluo an Image Beast Right Leg Bone as payment for killing her 128 131.

Marriage and Qian Renxue’s Birth

When Qian Lingyun’s pregnancy became apparent, Qian Daoliu insisted that she and Qian Xunji marry. Six months later, she gave birth to Qian Renxue. An abnormal dark presence gathered over the delivery room, prompting Qian Daoliu to disperse it with Angel Divine Power 151.

Qian Xunji did not attend the birth. His neglect deepened Qian Lingyun’s resentment, and she vowed to become a Titled Douluo and take the Pope’s seat herself. After recovering, she brought nine Fallen Soul Masters to Slaughter City’s entrance, killed one who refused to enter, and descended with the remaining eight 152.

Slaughter City and the Rakshasa Inheritance

Qian Lingyun entered Slaughter City partly to find the powerful, scythe-bearing being that had appeared in her dreams. The Rakshasa God’s Remnant Thought contacted her there and offered strength, revenge, and eventual godhood. She initially refused to betray her Angel heritage, but accepted after it exploited Qian Xunji’s rejection of her and their child 152 153.

The remnant corrupted her Martial Soul without allowing a complete Fallen Angel transformation, concealing her fall from the Angel God’s notice. It instructed her to cultivate through the Fallen Soul Masters, reach Titled Douluo, and avoid Hell Road 153.

Known as Slaughter Angel, she combined arena victories with extensive killing outside the arena. She also recruited followers to counter the groups hunting her. After approximately six years, she completed her hundredth match and the fourth Angel trial. The King of Slaughter named her a Slaughter God and opened a World Gate for her return rather than sending her through Hell Road 156 158.

Ninth Soul Ring and Rise to Pope

Qian Lingyun initially sought the hundred-thousand-year Death Spider Emperor as her ninth Soul Ring, intending to use its darkness attribute to help initiate the Rakshasa trials. Finding that Bibi Dong had already killed it, she redirected her search toward a light-attribute Soul Beast in the Star Dou Great Forest 160.

During the forest’s beast tide, her party discovered powerful Soul Beasts fleeing south, including a transformed Soul Beast. Spirit Hall pursued them, and Qian Lingyun ultimately killed Wu Ma. She claimed the hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring and Soul Bone despite Qian Xunji’s objections, with Feng Bao openly supporting her 163 165.

Feng Bao and other elders subsequently demanded Qian Xunji’s abdication. Qian Daoliu removed him and appointed Qian Lingyun as his successor, scheduling her enthronement for six months later. She formally assumed the papal throne after that interval 166 169 175.

Papal Rule and Qian Xunji’s Death

As Pope, Qian Lingyun designated Long Qianming as Spirit Hall’s greatest enemy, ahead of the Upper Three Sects. She retained infiltrators within the Dugu Family’s businesses and sought continental unification both for Spirit Hall and to secure evil thoughts and Soul Masters for her cultivation 175.

She ordered the pursuit of the Tang brothers and demanded that their companion Feng Wuyi be captured alive, having learned through Rakshasa Divine Sense that Feng Wuyi was a transformed Soul Beast. Qian Xunji volunteered to lead the hunt, accompanied by Yue Guan and Gui Mei 175.

Qian Lingyun also prepared the Nation-Stealing Plan. After attempts to obtain alternative disguise abilities failed, she reluctantly allowed Qian Renxue to infiltrate the Heaven Dou Imperial Family. With Qian Daoliu’s approval, she personally trained and escorted her daughter to approach Prince Xue Mingchuan 176.

When Qian Xunji returned wounded after fighting Tang Xiao, Qian Lingyun confronted him and pinned him to his throne with an Angel Holy Sword. She devoured his life and Soul Power, completed her first Rakshasa trial, and concealed herself when Qian Daoliu investigated the resulting evil presence 181 182.

Competition with the Heavenly Dragon Sect

Qian Lingyun’s treatment of Qian Xunji’s former supporters varied: she rewarded Yue Guan and Gui Mei with a Thousand-Year Soul Bone and retained their services, but sidelined Ling Yuan. Fearing abandonment, Ling Yuan defected to Long Qianming’s camp 182.

By the emergence of a new hundred-thousand-year Fifteen Ton Ant Emperor, Qian Lingyun regarded the Heavenly Dragon Sect as a greater obstacle to unification than the Upper Three Sects. Its cultivation resources, growing strength, and ability to assimilate infiltrators troubled her; nearly one-twentieth of Spirit Hall’s controlled Soul Master forces had already been drawn away. She ordered Yue Guan and Gui Mei to investigate the new beast and prepared to hunt it personally before Long Qianming could claim it 221.

Appearance

  • Eyes: Golden; they visibly dim when she accepts the Rakshasa inheritance 153.
  • Papal attire: A gilded robe, worn while holding the Pope’s Scepter on the papal throne 175.
  • Martial Soul manifestation: Six angel wings and an enormous Angel Phantom; Rakshasa corruption weakens its sacred light and introduces an evil presence 153 165.

Personality

Qian Lingyun’s early devotion to Qian Xunji is possessive and self-sacrificing. She is willing to kill Yu Xiaogang merely to prove her loyalty, while blaming Bibi Dong for Qian Xunji’s rejection. Her jealousy extends to Bibi Dong’s talent, appearance, and relationship with Long Qianming 110 114 131.

Rejection gradually turns that devotion into ambition and revenge. The Rakshasa remnant exploits feelings she already possesses rather than immediately overcoming her convictions: she initially refuses its offer because she will not betray the Angel Clan. She ultimately accepts the inheritance and later treats Qian Xunji himself as cultivation nourishment 153 182.

Her affection for Qian Renxue contrasts with her cruelty toward enemies. She tenderly cares for her daughter, praises her cultivation, and worries that the Nation-Stealing Plan will endanger her and squander her talent. Even after preparing the operation, she offers to delay it rather than force Qian Renxue to participate 152 175 176.

Qian Lingyun is also politically pragmatic. She recruits followers in Slaughter City, accepts Qian Xunji’s usefulness after deposing him, and retains valuable former opponents when their abilities serve Spirit Hall 156 175 182.
