Family and Poison Backlash

Dugu Yan lived with her grandfather, Poison Douluo Dugu Bo, in Heaven Dou City and attended Heaven Dou Royal Academy. Dugu Bo’s friendship with Prince Xue Xing was one reason he chose the academy for her 72 96.

Her inherited Jade Phosphorous Serpent Martial Soul poisoned her own body. Dugu Bo concealed the danger behind regular “Soul Power nourishment,” using his similarly sourced power to forcibly suppress her toxins. Each treatment exhausted him without resolving the underlying defect 74.

After a missed treatment, Dugu Yan suffered a backlash near the academy’s Poison-type mimicry area. Lin Mo used blood needles and his Body Martial Soul’s power to soothe the toxins temporarily. His warning helped her connect her illness with her parents’ deaths and her grandfather’s excessive protectiveness 75 76 80.

She subsequently tried to prevent Dugu Bo from troubling Lin Mo over the incident. The eventual solution was Martial Soul enhancement: two Earth Dragon Golden Melons gathered all her bodily toxins into her Martial Soul and transformed it into a True Dragon 79 92 94.

Academy and Tournament

Her evolved Martial Soul changed her from a poison-focused controller into a fighter capable of direct physical confrontation. During a Soul Beast hunt, she blocked a thousand-year wild boar’s charge head-on before killing it with Jade Phosphor Purple Poison 98.

In the Soul Master Tournament’s second round, Dugu Yan acted as Heaven Dou Royal Academy’s main combatant while Lin Mo remained inactive. Revealing her Soul King cultivation, she controlled the battlefield with poison and eliminated the opposing team within minutes 224.

Sea God Inheritance

Dugu Yan bonded with the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud after it struck her forehead, absorbed her blood, and briefly manifested a blue phantom. Although the process initially left her unconscious, she recovered and accepted Lin Mo’s assessment that it had acknowledged her as its master 327 328.

The Shroud later enabled her to receive the Sea God’s Nine Trials. She worried about taking an inheritance connected to Lin Mo, but he reassured her that the Sea God Godhood did not suit him. Poseidon considered her talent and True Dragon Martial Soul suitable, while also expecting her relationship with Lin Mo to secure his assistance 359.

Later Activities

Dugu Yan led the frontal assault against a Wolf Bandit group while Lin Mo and Ye Lingling rescued its captives from behind. Her poison helped wipe out the bandits 343.

After learning that Qian Renxue had infiltrated the Heaven Dou Empire as Xue Qinghe, she accepted Lin Mo’s decision not to intervene. Later, she demanded the surrender of the Star Crown Sect and Clear Sky Sect; Xu Zhenshan and Tang Xiao agreed, with their followers to face trials after their Soul Power was sealed 407 422.

After Lin Mo became a god, Dugu Yan was among those entrusted with the truth that he and Charizard came from another world. He also told her, Ye Lingling, and Qian Renxue that he intended to leave Douluo Continent to grow stronger and eventually find a route back to that world 487.

Appearance

• Hair and eyes: Purple hair and green eyes, originally caused by Martial Soul poison penetrating deeply enough to alter her outward features. These colors remained after the poison was removed from her body 80 94.
• Dragon possession: Emerald or dark-green scales, slit pupils, dragon claws, and a slight increase in height. Unlike her original serpent possession, the evolved form does not merge her legs into a snake’s tail 94 120.
• Martial Soul Avatar: An approximately ten-meter-long emerald dragon with powerful limbs, sharp claws, a long tail, and broad green wings edged with faint gold 367.
• Sea God mark: A golden trident brand between her brows 359 392.
• Clothing: Wore an emerald-green dress while carrying the Sea God Trident into Douluo Hall 401.

Personality

Dugu Yan is bold and openly competitive. She initiated her first kiss with Lin Mo, later took the initiative in their intimate relationship, and celebrated bonding with the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud as a victory over Ye Lingling 95 294 327.

Her confidence is backed by determination. She continued climbing through the Sea God’s Light until its pressure prevented further movement, endured harsh wave training, and approached the final Sacred Pillar challenge eagerly after six consecutive victories 367 375 387.

Her strongest loyalties are personal rather than political. She regards Dugu Manor as her home and her future as being beside Lin Mo, with little attachment to the Heaven Dou Empire’s ruling family. Nevertheless, she shows concern for others close to her: she tried to restrain her grandfather’s anger toward Lin Mo and stepped between Xiao Wu and Lin Mo while he was vulnerable during Soul Ring absorption 79 303 407.

• Continuous cultivation: Automatically absorbs Heaven and Earth Origin Power and converts it into Soul Power, even when she is not actively cultivating 322.
• Combat endurance: Improves reserves, quality, and recovery enough to support repeated high-level attacks across consecutive battles. It does not eliminate expenditure; she still needed recovery before facing Sea Dragon Douluo 387 388.
