Background / History

Poison Backlash and the Medicinal Garden

Dugu Bo’s poison endangered both himself and his granddaughter. Unable to cure either condition, he repeatedly used his Titled Douluo Soul Power to suppress Dugu Yan’s toxins, disguising the treatments as beneficial “Soul Power nourishment.” These sessions consumed both his power and his limited vigor 74.

Years earlier, he had discovered a medicinal garden deep in Sunset Forest and transplanted rare plants there. Its extreme environment relieved his poison flare-ups, but even he could not remain indefinitely. Dugu Yan’s lower cultivation made bringing her there unsafe 83.

Despite his expertise in poison, Dugu Bo could identify fewer than one or two tenths of the garden’s plants. Fear of consuming something fatal—and leaving Dugu Yan without protection—kept him from experimenting recklessly 83 85.

Treatment and Alliance with Lin Mo

After learning that Lin Mo had suppressed Dugu Yan’s poison, Dugu Bo confronted him at the Ye Family Medical Hall. He initially erupted when asked to swear secrecy, but ultimately swore on his Martial Soul and promised three favors if Lin Mo could cure both him and Dugu Yan 79.

He brought Lin Mo to his garden, accepting Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well as its name. Lin Mo identified the Earth Dragon Golden Melon as a suitable treatment, and Dugu Bo harvested one large and two smaller melons 84 85.

Refining the herb freed Dugu Bo from poison backlash and strengthened his combat abilities. In gratitude, he declared Lin Mo his brother, permitted him to harvest immortal herbs without damaging the garden’s environment, and gave him a Wishful Hundred Treasure Purse 88. The two smaller melons later helped Dugu Yan evolve her Martial Soul into the Jade Phosphorous Dragon 92 94.

Protector of Lin Mo and the Body Sect

Dugu Bo became a regular guardian during Soul Beast hunts. He helped subdue the spatially mobile Thorn Dragon and later fought the sixty-thousand-year Scarlet Radiance Golden Phoenix so Lin Mo could obtain their Soul Rings 107 184 185 186.

His protection extended beyond hunting. After a Star Luo agent attempted to assassinate Lin Mo, Dugu Bo went to the Star Luo imperial palace and forced the emperor to punish those responsible and provide compensation 271. He also helped conceal Zhu Zhuqing at Dugu Manor under a new identity, dissolving Dark Crow’s corpse with poison to support the planned cover story 247.

During Heaven Dou’s succession crisis, he refused to support Xue Beng’s claim to the throne but undertook to protect Xue Beng and Prince Xue Xing. He later attended the palace meeting at which Qian Renxue renamed the state the Angel Empire 310 409.

Dugu Manor became the Body Sect’s true administrative core, with Dugu Bo and Ye Linyuan providing its resident Titled Douluo strength. When Lin Mo prepared to travel to Sea God Island, Dugu Bo supplied nautical charts and information about dangerous waters 340 398.

Journey to Another Douluo Continent

Lin Mo brought Dugu Bo to another Douluo Continent set ten thousand years later. There, Dugu Bo learned that his counterpart had entrusted the medicinal garden to Tang San, yet neither that counterpart nor Dugu Yan had received an immortal herb or ascended to the Divine Realm. The absence of their Martial Souls from known later records deepened his anger 496 497.

At Shrek Academy, he found records crediting Tang San with creating the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well while preserving his counterpart’s notoriety for a citywide massacre. These accounts concerned the other world’s Dugu Bo, not his own history 498.

After obtaining Mu En’s Dragon Core and refining it with Lin Mo’s assistance, he adopted the name Jade Phosphor · Xiangliu for his strengthened Martial Soul. Lin Mo also shielded him from detection by that world’s Divine Realm before sending him out 498 502.

Dugu Bo then entered the other world’s Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, overwhelmed its six immortal-herb Soul Beasts, forced them back into their original forms, and sealed them in his Storage Soul Tool. He also investigated the springs and reported the surviving Ice and Fire Dragon Kings’ legacy to Lin Mo 505 506 508.

He subsequently worked alongside Qian Daoliu against the Holy Spirit Cult. During these operations, he fought the Evil Eye Tyrant Dominator but escaped rather than continue a battle he believed he could not win. Qian Daoliu destroyed the cult’s headquarters, and their operations helped secure evidence against Xu Tianran 541 542.

Appearance

  • Build and eyes: An elderly, tall, thin man with jade-green serpentine eyes 79 107.
  • Hair before treatment: Long, unhealthy-looking emerald-green hair 91.
  • Hair after treatment: Gradually became predominantly white, with dark green remaining at the tips; his overall presence appeared more normal 91 104.
  • Clothing: Wore a dark green robe with his long hair tied up when reunited with Lin Mo after the Sea God Island journey 398.
  • Martial Soul Possession: Develops dark green scales and slit pupils; his legs merge into a thick serpent tail 114.
  • Xiangliu Avatar: A gigantic, metallic-scaled dark green serpent with nine distinct heads, dominated by a larger jade-green central head 502 506.

Personality

Dugu Bo is volatile, proud, and intensely sensitive about his family’s poisoning. Lin Mo’s demand for an oath initially provoked an eruption of Titled Douluo pressure, while insults directed at Dugu Yan drew an immediate, threatening response. Nevertheless, Ye Linyuan regarded him as someone who kept his word despite his difficult temper 79 83 136.

His gratitude toward Lin Mo develops into conspicuous affection and pride. He enjoys displaying his improved strength and takes particular pleasure in Yue Guan’s frustration at Lin Mo’s achievements. His protectiveness is tempered by caution: he avoids reckless medicinal experiments, withdraws from Tang Hao rather than force a confrontation, and acknowledges the Evil Eye Tyrant Dominator’s superiority 85 88 168 230 542.

Abilities & Skills

Jade Phosphor · Xiangliu

His final documented Martial Soul develops the multi-headed serpent path rather than following the conventional progression toward a dragon 502.

  • Each of its nine heads corresponds to a different poison 506.
  • The earlier seven-headed form included a central Jade Phosphor poison head, a grayish-white petrification head, and a dark red fire-poison head 398.
  • The Xiangliu form can swallow corresponding cold and fire poisons through specialized heads, as demonstrated against the immortal herbs 506.
  • Its strengthened Martial Soul Origin allowed him to withstand the Evil Eye Tyrant Dominator longer than his former Serpent Emperor form could have 541.

Poison Mastery

Dugu Bo specializes in large-scale poisoning rather than duels; his battlefield value lies in confronting entire groups and armies 398 542.

  • Produces lethal poison mist, venom arrows, and corrosive venom 115 185.
  • Jade Phosphorous Serpent Poison is deadly on contact to opponents without sufficient resistance or an effective counter 141.
  • The Ten Headed Fierce Yang Serpent Inner Core added scorching fire poison to his repertoire 296 398.
  • His Xiangliu’s Jade Phosphor Breath gravely wounded Aromatic Silk Beauty despite its poison-countering properties 506.

Soul Skills

Skill Soul Ring Applications and Limits
Corrosive venom attack Sixth Spits dark green venom that corrodes feathers and flesh. Used with Time Freeze against the Scarlet Radiance Golden Phoenix 185.
Martial Soul Avatar Seventh Originally transformed him into a Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor over thirty meters long; later manifests his nine-headed Xiangliu form 115 502.
Time Freeze Eighth Briefly freezes an area, immobilizing targets before a follow-up attack. One use affected a hundred-meter radius and stopped the Thorn Dragon before it could teleport 107 185.
Unnamed ninth Soul Skill Ninth Its specific effect is not described; combined with Time Freeze, it is stated to make destroying a city effortless 185.

Petrification

The Medusa Head Soul Bone grants a petrification ability, later represented by the grayish-white head of his seven-headed Martial Soul 398 449.

  • Can turn opponents into stone statues 398.
  • Originated from the Empress Medusa he killed while at the rank-seventy bottleneck 449.

Poison Formations and Soul Cores

  • Poison formations: Protects the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well with increasingly sophisticated poison arrays. Ye Lingling judged its later outer formation difficult to force through without Titled Douluo cultivation 408.
  • Defensive barriers: Can isolate companions from environmental poisonous mist with a Soul Power barrier 182.
  • Soul Cores: Possesses a Poison-type Soul Core and, by level 99, two operating Soul Cores. Even both at maximum rotation could not offset Lin Mo’s deliberate draining of his power 322 498.

Weaknesses and Limits

  • Spiritual power: Earlier possessed only Soul Douluo-level spiritual power despite being a Titled Douluo, a weakness Yue Guan mocked 94.
  • High expenditure: Maintaining Martial Soul Avatar while using major skills—especially Time Freeze—rapidly consumes Soul Power 185 186.
  • Ultimate Fire: Charizard’s flames burn away his poison. Strengthening his Martial Soul or holding a cultivation advantage does not overcome this counter 115 296.
  • Mental suppression: The Evil Eye Tyrant Dominator’s spiritual power prevents his poison from effectively reaching it 542.
  • Snow-Colored Swan Kiss: Amplifying all nine poisons risks breaking their equilibrium and causing backlash; he declines to use the herb 506.
