Background

Hu Liena grew up with her older brother, Xie Yue, in Spirit City’s orphanage for the children of fallen heroes. Yan lived at the same orphanage, although the three had little contact before awakening their Martial Souls. Xie Yue protected his sister and occasionally fought with Yan, the orphanage’s troublemaker 10 39.

After awakening the Demon Fox with innate Soul Power of 9.5, Hu Liena attracted Bibi Dong’s attention and became her disciple. Bibi Dong treated her with maternal affection and personally taught her Martial Soul theory. Although her living conditions improved, her position as the Pope’s disciple also required her to exemplify Spirit Hall’s outward austerity 2 3 10.

Hu Liena accompanied Bibi Dong, Yue Guan, and Gui Mei to Nuoding City while preparing to obtain her first Soul Ring. There she met Luo Chen, whom Bibi Dong introduced as her junior disciple. Hu Liena is proud, competitive, and determined not to fall behind. Seeing Wang Sheng’s talent surpass her own after Ascension unsettles her, but she accepts Luo Chen’s help rather than reject an opportunity out of pride. Her initial decision rests as much on her unwillingness to lose as on her favorable impression of him 8.

Her manner changes sharply depending on her company. Around Luo Chen, she is affectionate, shy, and eager for praise. At the academy, she is the class’s formidable “big sister,” capable of keeping even Yan in line. She quickly confronts anyone she believes is mistreating Luo Chen 6 39 42.
