Background / History

Kunlun Sect Disciple

Qingyunzi grew up in the Kunlun Sect and became a disciple of its leader, Daoist Kunlun. His familiarity with the Kunlun Secret Realm’s terrain and his knowledge of ancient restrictions led his master to appoint him as the Snow Empress’s guide during her search for an Emperor Bell fragment 238 242.

Restoring the Ziwei Emperor Bell

Qingyunzi opened the secret realm’s restricted entrance with an ice-colored token and accompanied the Snow Empress into its frozen interior. During the Ice Flame Beast’s trial, he wounded the beast through its scales but was struck by its combined ice-and-fire breath. The beast acknowledged the pair’s mutual trust and desire to protect the world, then entrusted them with its fragment 239 240.

Using the Tracking Jade Slip, Qingyunzi located the final fragment’s direction and guided the Snow Empress toward the Kunlun Ruins. He recognized the ruins’ Trapping and Killing Restriction and led her through it by following the ground’s runes. In the ensuing battle, he fought General Black Fiend’s subordinates while the Snow Empress confronted their leader. The pair eliminated the remaining attackers and completed the bell’s restoration 241 242 243 244.

Black Impermanence ambushed them on their return journey. Qingyunzi initially fought the Yin soldiers, then attacked Black Impermanence from behind after recovering from his injuries. His assault forced the enemy to divert the Soul-Locking Chain away from the Snow Empress, giving her an opening to deliver a decisive bell strike. After Black Impermanence escaped, the pair recuperated and returned to report to Daoist Kunlun 245 246 247.

Defense of Kunlun Sect

Before the Underworld’s assault, Qingyunzi coordinated combat training among the assembled righteous sects and used the Tracking Jade Slip to monitor enemy movements. He reported Black Impermanence’s approach and stood with the Snow Empress at the mountain gate 249.

When Black Impermanence’s Yin Soul Pill raised him to the Eighth Transformation, Qingyunzi broke through the Yin soldiers to protect the gravely injured Snow Empress. His sword could not penetrate Black Impermanence’s official robes, and the resulting counterattack left him severely wounded 251 252.

Journey to the East Sea

Despite his injuries, Qingyunzi refused to remain behind when the Snow Empress departed to seek the Azure Dragon Jade Pendant. He helped lead the righteous disciples east, scouting their route and fighting repeated Underworld ambushes 256 259 261.

In Netherworld Valley, he intercepted General Black Armor’s attack on the Snow Empress but could not pierce the general’s armor. He again shielded her in the Deathly Silent Wasteland, where the Netherworld General shattered his ultimate sword technique. The Snow Empress’s renewed Emperor Soul power saved him, and she supplied healing pills after both encounters 257 258 262 263 264.

At sea, Qingyunzi commanded the disciples against Yin soldiers and Sea Demonic Beasts while the Snow Empress fought Black Sea General. Inside the East Sea Dragon Palace, he transferred spiritual Qi to her and joined the group’s coordinated attack against the Black Dragon Lord. Their forces survived until Daoist Kunlun and the Wudang Sect leader arrived with reinforcements 269 273 274.

After Great Emperor Fengdu’s intervention forced their escape, Qingyunzi guided the survivors to Penglai Immortal Island. He identified an ancestral Daoist altar whose sealing power concealed them from outside probing, allowing the Snow Empress to begin combining the three supreme treasures 276.

The Demon Realm Crisis

Qingyunzi opposed the Snow Empress’s plan to expend her vitality and cultivation reinforcing the seal beneath Heavenly Pillar Peak. Nevertheless, she entrusted him with summoning the righteous sect leaders. During the ritual, he tearfully watched her hair turn white as her vitality drained away 279 280.

After her recovery, he received her instructions to make cultivation teachings public and send disciples to help ordinary people. He also relayed information during the spiritual Qi depletion crisis and later reported that the Shaolin abbot had found a way to strengthen the Demon Realm seal using the Five Ancient Emperors’ relics 281 283 288.

Founding the Heavenly Dao Alliance

Once the Gate of the Demon Realm had been sealed, Qingyunzi volunteered to join the Snow Empress’s proposed Heavenly Dao Alliance. He questioned its financial burden, prompting her to explain that the major sects would share its membership, expenses, and resources 294.

Qingyunzi spent three days and nights drafting a charter of more than ten thousand words. It defined the alliance’s purpose, structure, membership requirements, rights, obligations, rewards, and punishments. He revised it using suggestions gathered by Huiming and recorded the proposed specialist halls at the founding banquet. When the alliance began operating, he became its chief protector 295 296.

He later reacted with disbelief when the Snow Empress revealed that the sealed Primordial Demon God was her future self, who had returned to the past and sealed herself away 298.

Appearance

  • Youthful and handsome: Introduced as a handsome young disciple standing beside Daoist Kunlun 238.
  • Daoist clothing: Wears white at his introduction and is later described as an azure-clad figure in battle 238 251.
  • Blue-green longsword: His recurring weapon is variously described as azure, blue-green, blue, or green 239 245 259 269.

Personality

Qingyunzi is loyal and protective, repeatedly placing himself between the Snow Empress and stronger opponents. He insists on accompanying her while injured and describes their bond as that of companions who fight shoulder to shoulder. His concern also leads him to oppose her planned sacrifice rather than accept it without protest 251 256 262 279.

His courage is tempered by practical judgment. He warns about traps and ambushes, recommends retreating to Kunlun Sect rather than confronting Black Impermanence while exhausted, and recognizes when his immediate contribution should be recovery rather than combat. His later concern over alliance funding and meticulous charter drafting show the same attention to preparation 241 244 246 294 295.

Abilities & Skills
