Background / History

Early reputation and past battles

Lin Dong became Archaic’s youngest Great Emperor and assumed leadership of the Lin Clan. Before his confrontation with the Luo Clan, he had not fought publicly for several thousand years, leading observers to underestimate him against older emperors 9 10 19.

He also established a fearsome reputation at Emperor Pass. By his own account, he defeated the ancestors of the Jin, Tang, and Ouyang clans so thoroughly that they did not dare leave their homes. The wider circumstances remain unrevealed: younger Emperor Pass cultivators know only that he once caused a major upheaval there 184 187 254 255.

Other past opponents include Ancestor Jin Kun of the Golden-Winged Peng Clan and an ancestor of the Darkness Immortal Hall. Lin Dong says he defeated Jin Kun and roasted his claws, while leaving the Darkness Immortal Hall ancestor with only half his life 131 260.

Rescue of Lin Fan and conflict with the Luo Clan

Lin Dong first appears as Quasi-Emperor Shenshang attacks Lin Fan and the injured Uncle Fu. His imperial might shatters the attack and forces Shenshang back. After hearing that the Luo Clan has harmed both his son and a Lin Clan member, he immediately retaliates 9.

His sword strike severs the Luo Family Ancestor’s hand, while its residual Sword Qi kills Shenshang. He then breaks the ancestor’s blood-river defense and pursues him into the void 10.

In Luo Clan territory, Lin Dong kills the wounded Great Emperor Baiyun by piercing his brow and extinguishing his soul. Lin Canghai holds off the other Luo ancestors and kills one of them. With two Great Emperors dead and three severely wounded, the Luo Clan announces its withdrawal from the world 14.

Lin Fan’s physique tribulation

When Lin Fan triggers a Monstrous Genius Tribulation, Lin Dong prevents Ji Ningshuang from approaching: the presence of a Great Emperor could provoke the lightning and make the tribulation stronger. He also silences experts who disparage Lin Fan’s apparent lack of pill patterns, then celebrates as his son produces nine and ultimately ten core markings 16 17 18.

As hostile factions take an interest in Lin Fan, Lin Dong urges the clan to summon its ancestors. After the tribulation, he and Ji Ningshuang attempt to rescue their son from a hidden Great Emperor’s assassination strike, but are too far away to intervene in time. The Lin Clan’s Immortal Annihilation Formation destroys the attack and kills the assassin instead 19 22.

Lin Dong identifies the attacker as a Late Great Emperor deathsworn, leaving no traceable origin. He suspects the Wang Clan but lacks proof. Later, he offers his private Chaos Origin and the clan’s supplies to help Lin Fan open his Spirit Sea, only to discover that his son needs an unprecedented quantity 23 25.

Luo River Province and imperial retaliation

After Uncle Fu warns him of danger to Lin Fan, Lin Dong and Ji Ningshuang head toward the Drunken Immortal Pavilion. Five Great Emperors intercept them under the pretext of demanding a share of an immortal inheritance. The couple defeats and captures all five; Lin Dong stops Ji Ningshuang from killing the captives so that their deaths will not alert the other emperors 69 70.

At Luo River Province, Lin Dong pretends to return the prisoners before using them as living bombs against the emperors targeting Lin Fan. Lin Fan joins in, and all five captives are eventually detonated. Lin Dong and the hidden ancestors seal the region to prevent the explosions from devastating the province and pavilion 77 78 79.

Lin Dong subsequently crushes two critically wounded Wang and Feng Clan Great Emperors with Emperor Dao pressure. He abandons further concealment of his strength and destroys the Luo Clan’s secluded territory with a sword strike sent across a million miles 80 81.

He then takes the fight directly to the Wang Clan, slaughtering its members and repelling its patriarch’s Demon God Fist with Sword Qi. When Great Emperor Jieyun attacks, the Lin Clan’s four ancestors—not Lin Dong—kill Jieyun with the Immortal Annihilation Formation. Lin Dong rejects the Wang patriarch’s attempt to blame everything on the dead Great Emperor Hongyun 82 83.

Golden-Winged Peng Clan confrontation

Lin Dong and Ji Ningshuang rush to Lin Fan after receiving news of the Darkness Clan’s arrival. When a Golden-Winged Peng Clan elder demands justice for his clan’s slain prodigies, Lin Dong cuts off the elder’s wings with a casual streak of Sword Qi 130.

He challenges the elder to bring his ancestors if he considers the treatment unfair, invoking his earlier victory over Jin Kun. After the elder retreats, Lin Dong praises Lin Fan but warns that the destroyed Gate of Darkness shows the Dark Clan has extended its reach into Archaic 131.

Return to Emperor Pass

While his true body is occupied deep inside Emperor Pass, Lin Dong sends a Dharma body to protect Lin Fan on the Mysterious Pass Ancient Road. It repels and defeats Jin Wudao, Tang Xuantian, and Ouyang Lie after they attack Lin Fan for the Immortal Seed, despite their use of two Immortal Artifacts 253 254 255.

Before dispersing, the Dharma body warns Lin Fan that the Immortal Seed must not reach the Foreign Domain or malicious factions within Emperor Pass. Lin Dong withholds its full purpose, explaining that premature knowledge could help enemies lay traps based on Lin Fan’s thoughts 255.

Lin Dong later confronts a black-robed figure of the Darkness Immortal Hall over attempts on Lin Fan’s life. He forces the man to remain in his hall under threat of death. Rather than fight him directly, the man arranges to spread news of Lin Fan’s Immortal Seed and turn Emperor Pass’s greedy factions against his son 260.

Appearance

Lin Dong has a tall, slender build and handsome, refined features, appearing barely past thirty 253.

  • Black hair: Described whipping in the wind as he destroys the Luo Clan’s territory 81.
  • Family resemblance: His face bears a seventy-percent resemblance to Lin Fan’s 254.
  • Clothing: Appears in white robes when his Dharma body arrives on the ancient road 253 254.
  • Eyes and bearing: His gaze carries deeply settled Sword Intent and killing intent; in battle, he is compared to a wild, unrestrained sword immortal 10 253.

Personality

Lin Dong is fiercely protective of his family and clan. He treats attacks on Lin Fan as grounds for retaliation against entire imperial factions, refusing apologies or compensation once repeated attempts on his son’s life have crossed his limits. His ruthlessness includes using captured emperors as explosives and destroying the Luo Clan’s homeland 9 78 81.

He is also playful, boastful, and fond of showing off before Lin Fan. He repeatedly asks his son to watch his techniques and openly celebrates his achievements. This confidence does not extend to domestic arguments: he accepts Ji Ningshuang’s scolding rather than argue and remains silent when Lin Canghai threatens to beat him over Lin Fan’s safety 10 15 18 77 80 254.

Despite his indulgence, Lin Dong wants Lin Fan to become independent. He scolds reckless behavior, respects his son’s decisions, and ultimately sends him onward with the assurance that the clan will support him if trouble follows 25 79 255.

Sword Dao

Lin Dong specializes in sword cultivation, wielding both a physical longsword and Sword Qi formed through finger gestures 10 254.

  • Private Chaos Origin reserves — Offers these together with the Lin Clan’s stores to support Lin Fan’s Spirit Sea breakthrough, estimating that they can assemble a few dozen wisps 25.

  • Ji Ningshuang — Wife, known as the Ice Immortal. They fight together to protect Lin Fan; her scolding frequently leaves the otherwise domineering patriarch sheepish 15 16 70.
