Chapters 176–186 Vol. 2 Read

Ch. 176Easter egg

Hermione finished Wizard Legend’s storyline, which revealed Merlin’s plan to use the protagonist against Morgana, while Dumbledore wondered whether Lorne had traveled through time. Draco kept hunting a rare Christmas-hat rat and began developing a theory about how to defeat it.

  • Hermione learned that Morgana had survived for centuries in the Chamber of Stilled Time and that Merlin had prepared the protagonist to defeat her.
  • Hermione compared Merlin’s past, present, and future plan with what she had done the previous term, and Wizard Legend’s ending sparked discussion on the Cuckoo Forum.
  • Dumbledore reviewed what he knew about Lorne and wondered whether Lorne had come from the past or future, despite his records showing an ordinary childhood.
  • Draco angrily chased another Christmas-hat rat after it escaped from his screen for the third time.
  • Draco and his friends speculated that the rat might be an Animagus and that they needed to make it transform before combat.

Ch. 177Pioneer Admission Ticket

Draco defeated the hidden Christmas Mouse in Wizard Legend and won a ticket to an offline event. Meanwhile, Lorne named the planned Magic Mobile Phone district Dituni and inspected its growing site, where the Longbottoms had built a bank holding over thirty thousand Galleons.

  • Draco discovered that the Christmas Mouse lost its priority passive when it transformed into a man and defeated it, becoming the first player to earn a Pioneer Admission Ticket.
  • Draco learned the ticket granted entry to official offline events at Magic Mobile Phone Stores, while Crabbe planned to try defeating the boss himself.
  • Augusta told Lorne that the fireplaces at three Magic Mobile Phone Stores were connected to the Floo Network and discussed the store being built beside the bank.
  • Lorne named the planned Magic Mobile Phone district Dituni and traveled there with Augusta, the Longbottoms, and Lucille.
  • Frank showed Lorne the site’s cabins and bank, explaining that it held more than thirty thousand Galleons in internal funds.

Ch. 178Wanda Center

Lorne planned a modern shopping district in Dituni, including Wanda Center and a Magic Mobile Phone theme park, and explained how it could attract wizards from Britain and beyond. He told Lucille that he would personally train her next.

  • Lorne told Alice to stop searching for Giants and instructed Augusta and Frank to arrange a shopping street and a ring-shaped, multi-level shopping center in Dituni.
  • Lorne named the complex Wanda Center and sent Augusta, Alice, and Frank to handle their assigned tasks.
  • Lorne reassured Lucille that Centaurs lived in the surrounding forest, partnered with him, and helped protect Dituni.
  • Lorne revealed that the empty central plot would become a Magic Mobile Phone theme park and argued that students, families, and international visitors could support a major commercial district.
  • Lucille asked what she should do, and Lorne offered her personal training.

Ch. 179Dumbledore's request for help

Dumbledore sought Newt Scamander’s help in assessing Lorne Miles, whom he suspected had come from the future and might know something about Voldemort. Newt agreed to visit Lorne and discuss the newly discovered creature, but refused to investigate him; he left for the mountains, and Dumbledore remained to consider his burden.

  • Dumbledore decided he needed an unfamiliar ally to approach Lorne and settled on Newt Scamander.
  • Dumbledore visited Newt and Tina in Dorset, then told Newt he had come to recommend that he meet the person who identified the new fantastic beast.
  • Dumbledore asked Newt to keep watch on Lorne Miles and determine whether he was dangerous or a Death Eater, offering Felix Felicis as a reward.
  • Newt agreed to visit Lorne about the creature but refused to question or judge him, and suggested Dumbledore give the potion to Harry instead.
  • Newt left to search the mountains for the fantastic beast, while Dumbledore stayed behind and reflected on his duty to oppose Voldemort.

Ch. 180The pure-blood conspiracy

After training graduates to inscribe Magic Power Matrices, Lorne hired them on generous terms despite Sirius’s concerns that pure-blood spies might steal their technology. Meanwhile, Lucius and Corban planned to counterfeit Magic Mobile Phones and establish a monopoly, while Lorne asked Sirius to investigate the new employees’ backgrounds.

  • Lorne offered the graduates contracts with a salary of two hundred Galleons a year, benefits, and a month off before they began work on August eighth.
  • Several recruits planted by pure-blood families defected to Lorne’s team, while others with pure-blood loyalties left.
  • Lucius and Corban discussed the magical gears and learned that their recruits had mastered the phone-making process in seven days.
  • Corban proposed making cheaper counterfeit phones, and Lucius planned to use the Malfoy and Nott families’ capital to undercut Lorne and secure a monopoly.
  • Lorne told Sirius he had hired some workers because they needed money and could be won over, then asked him to check their backgrounds and remove anyone barred from shop employment.

Ch. 181Newt's visit

Newt visited Lorne to ask about a fantastic beast leaving glowing footprints in Dorset, and Lorne showed him information about several newly discovered beasts. Lorne invited Newt to join him on a trip to Northern Europe to verify the discoveries, leaving Newt’s answer unstated.

  • Quirrell recognized Newt downstairs and hurried to tell Lorne that he had arrived.
  • Lorne welcomed Newt upstairs and thanked him for helping with the centaurs’ migration.
  • Newt asked Lorne about the fantastic beast leaving glowing footprints in Dorset.
  • Lorne gave Newt a manuscript describing the Dorset beast and other fantastic beast discoveries.
  • Newt excitedly read the information, and Lorne invited him to travel to Northern Europe to verify the discoveries.

Ch. 182Setting off for Northern Europe

Lorne and Newt traveled to Northern Europe to find the Giants and search their murals for clues about the Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. The chapter left Lorne testing the Giants’ attitude toward him and discovering they might be willing to work abroad as builders.

  • Lorne and Newt reached Northern Europe in less than three days, then continued toward the Giants’ habitat on foot to avoid using magic near them.
  • Newt explained that Giants were hostile toward wizards and advised preparing gifts for their leader, while Lorne considered what the Race Certification could do.
  • After climbing over rocks and sleeping in a cave, Lorne and Newt found more than a hundred Giants gathered around their leader.
  • Lorne greeted the Giants and took a stone from one Giant’s palm, alarming Newt, who prepared to defend him.
  • A Giant explained that the rocks were the Giants’ beds and that they could build houses and castles, prompting Lorne to renew his interest in recruiting them for work abroad.

Ch. 183The zoo

Newt recounted how Lorne befriended the giant leader Karkus, found two Crumple-Horned Snorkacks, and persuaded a dozen giants to return to England with him. On the flight home, Lorne asked Newt to help him open a zoo to educate wizards about fantastic beasts.

  • Newt recalled meeting Karkus, who welcomed him and Lorne after Lorne introduced himself.
  • Newt and Lorne followed the giants’ murals to find the last two Crumple-Horned Snorkacks in a mountain cave.
  • Karkus refused to lead the whole tribe back to wizarding society but allowed individual giants to leave with Lorne.
  • Lorne persuaded a dozen smaller giants to climb into Newt’s suitcase and travel back to England.
  • Newt asked how Lorne would house the giants, and Lorne said his workplace would keep them safe from the Ministry.
  • Lorne asked Newt to help him open a zoo so wizards could learn about fantastic beasts.

Ch. 184Making trouble

Lorne prepared theme-park events and assigned Quirrell tasks for construction, marketing, and promotional cards. When customers accused the Magic Mobile Phone shop of selling defective phones, Lorne suspected a Pure-blood scheme and offered replacements and compensation, while a spokesman tried to keep the crowd outside.

  • Quirrell reported that the Giants had begun building the theme park, that Newt Scamander had returned to Dorset, and that the phone shop's anniversary promotion was gaining interest.
  • Lorne tasked Quirrell with organizing staff ideas, researching aquatic creatures, preparing cards, and promoting new character illustrations on Cuckoo.
  • Sirius alerted Lorne that customers had gathered outside, claiming their Magic Mobile Phones had failed after importing games.
  • Lorne suspected that Pure-bloods had flooded the market with inferior phones and summoned Augusta to Diagon Alley.
  • Lorne offered replacements and compensation, but a spokesman demanded an explanation and tried to prevent the crowd from entering the shop.

Ch. 185Sound moves, crude moves, brilliant moves

Lorne exposed the defective Magic Mobile Phones as counterfeits made by Death Eaters and offered affected customers a discounted trade-in. He turned the pure-bloods’ attempt to damage his shop against them, and one conspirator implicated Carrow.

  • Lorne examined a customer’s defective Magic Mobile Phone and identified it as a counterfeit despite its close resemblance to the genuine product.
  • Lorne explained how the counterfeits differed from genuine phones, blamed the theft of the manufacturing process on Death Eaters, and announced a discounted trade-in offer.
  • Carrow accused Lorne of lying and threatened to sue, but Lorne and Augusta challenged him to submit to memory extraction before the Wizengamot.
  • Lorne accused Carrow of acting as a Death Eater lackey, and the crowd seized Carrow as his explanations raised suspicions.
  • Lorne suggested that the Ministry take the other troublemakers too, then offered compensation to anyone falsely accused.
  • One of the conspirators denied involvement and blamed Carrow for ordering them to make false accusations against the shop.

Ch. 186Filing suit-see you at the Wizengamot

Lucius planned to use a loophole in patent law to undermine Lorne’s Magic Mobile Phone shop and seize its market, while Lorne confirmed the copied phones had not revealed the secrets of his Magic Power Matrix. Lorne asked Augusta to file suit against Lucius and the Death Eater remnants, confident that making the Wizengamot proceedings public would let him win.

  • Lucius told the pure-blood families that their copied phones appeared different enough to evade patent law, then proposed selling fully functional phones during Lorne’s shop anniversary to drive it out of business.
  • Lucius asked for three top-of-the-line Magic Mobile Phones so he could keep one for himself and give one to each of his family members.
  • Lorne inspected the pirated phones and found that their makers had copied his Magic Power Matrices without understanding their deeper principles.
  • Augusta warned Lorne that the current evidence might not secure a patent-law victory and that Ministry influence could undermine the case.
  • Lorne told Augusta to apply to the Wizengamot, sue Lucius and the Death Eater remnants, and reserve the right to publish the trial proceedings through his memories.
