Background / History
The Rorsted Archipelago Incident
Amon parasitized Wilt Mirage after Wilt obtained a Marauder Pathway Beyonder item. Four years later, the local avatars voted overwhelmingly to send Wilt into an ancient ruin as their scout. The original Wilt died during the exploration, and Xu Zhe awakened in his body 1.
Outside the ruin, a demigod avatar attempted to steal Wilt’s memories. He immediately exploded, after which the golden sarira Wilt had recovered destroyed more than a hundred gathered avatars. The incident devastated Amon’s presence around the Rorsted Archipelago 1 2.
The danger also spread through Wilt’s connection to Amon. To sever the contamination, Amon expended two Sequence 2 Angel avatars and thirteen Sequence 3 and Sequence 4 demigod avatars. Rather than inspect Wilt’s memories himself, he brought Adam into the investigation because the contamination was too severe to justify the risk 3.
Assessment at the Corpse Cathedral
Avatar No. 037 gave Wilt Amon’s Honorific Name, presenting it as a way to let the original body handle his condition. Reciting it transported Wilt through the Spirit World to the Corpse Cathedral, where Amon and Adam were waiting 2.
Amon questioned Wilt about the Key of Light, Holy Monk, and the Circle of Inevitability. He explained the Boon system and asked Wilt to describe the Dancer’s abilities, while Adam examined the corruption using the Blasphemy Slate 3.
Adam discovered that Wilt’s fate had become deeply bound to Amon’s. Harm to Wilt would negatively affect Amon, while Wilt’s advancement would benefit him. This connection remained despite Amon successfully cutting off the spreading contamination 4.
Support for Wilt
Amon explained that Wilt could retain his Marauder foundation while also following the Monster and Dancer Pathways. He then modified Wilt’s monocle into a Sequence 4 Marauder Pathway item and appointed him avatar No. 041 4 5.
As payment for the Honorific Names of the Key of Light and the Circle of Inevitability, Amon advanced Wilt painlessly to Sequence 7 Cryptologist. Some of Wilt’s Swindler Potion remained undigested 5.
After Wilt left, Amon questioned whether he was still an avatar, a product of cosmic corruption, or both. Adam answered that he was neither, without explaining his origin. Amon then returned to the Forsaken Land of the Gods to deal with his remaining corrupted Worms of Time 5.
Appearance
- True body: Curly black hair, black eyes, a broad forehead, and a thin face 2.
- Clothing: A classical black robe and matching soft, pointed hat 2.
- Signature feature: A crystal monocle worn over the right eye 2.
- Avatars: Include men and women working as adventurers, pirates, officials, doctors, and cooks. Their shared identifying feature is the right-eye monocle 1 2.
Personality
Amon is playful, provocative, and deliberately irritating. He teases Wilt about his low Sequence, enjoys his alarm at the prospect of following three Pathways, and repeatedly mocks the short duration for which Wilt can safely use his powerful items 4 5.
His curiosity is tempered by caution. He refuses to steal Wilt’s memories once he recognizes the danger of the contamination. No. 037 expresses the same priority directly: curiosity is less important than survival, especially when dealing with the starry sky 2 3.
His avatars combine practical deception with amusement at others’ expense. No. 037 negotiates aggressively over the gold-mine scam, suggests leaving collaborators unpaid and taking the blame, and places Wilt at the center of the scheme under the justification of helping him digest his Potion 9 15.
Abilities & Skills
Parasitism and Avatars
Amon can parasitize people and turn them into avatars, as happened to Wilt Mirage 1 41.
- Maintains avatars across multiple regions, with regional figures responsible for local operations 2 9.
- Can draw on avatars ranging from Low-Sequence Beyonders to Sequence 2 Angels 1 3.
- Uses a strength-based hierarchy; an assigned number does not guarantee that other avatars will obey its holder 5.
- Provides avatars with shared foundational knowledge, including Hermes and Jotun. This does not necessarily include messenger contracts or sacrifice and bestowment rituals 25.
- Connections to avatars can transmit dangerous contamination, as demonstrated by Wilt’s encounter with the Circle of Inevitability 3.
Theft
Amon can steal memories, though he declines to inspect Wilt’s because of the contamination. The demigod avatar outside the ruin demonstrates memory theft by attempting to search Wilt’s mind 1 3.
- Amon’s modified monocle grants Wilt all Sequence 4 Parasite abilities 5.
- Through that item, Wilt steals Beyonder abilities and, using a demigod-level application, the distance between himself and an enemy 20 21.
- Wilt’s later precision theft relies on his own Merit expenditure; it is not presented as the normal accuracy of Sequence 6 theft 32.
Deception and Rule Exploitation
No. 037, a Sequence 3 Mentor of Deceit, describes his power as deceiving and exploiting rules rather than creating things from nothing 2 9.
- Can support fabricated identities and fraudulent documents 9 15.
- Must actively counter prophecy and divination when a deception faces demigod-level scrutiny 9.
- Uses an existing avatar’s noble title as the basis for Wilt’s false identity, altering the associated name through deception 15.
Fate-Related Authority
Amon states that the Marauder Pathway possesses authority over fate. Adam’s treatment plan relies on Wilt retaining that Pathway as his foundation while drawing on the Key of Light to suppress the Circle of Inevitability’s corruption 4.
Beyonder Item Modification
Amon fuses a Worm of Time into Wilt’s monocle, making it equivalent to a Sequence 4 Marauder Pathway item. He also advances Wilt to Cryptologist without the pain of an ordinary advancement 5.
Avatar Network
| Avatar | Rank / Position | Documented Role |
|---|---|---|
| No. 037 | Sequence 3 Mentor of Deceit; head of the Rorsted Archipelago avatars | Borrows replacement avatars after the losses, sends Wilt to the true body, and later supports the gold-mine fraud 2 9 15. |
| Former No. 041 | Demigod; No. 037’s deputy | Explodes while attempting to steal Wilt’s memories outside the ruin 1 2. |
| Wilt Mirage / New No. 041 | Sequence 7 Cryptologist after Amon’s payment | Receives the vacant number and a modified monocle. His precise relationship to Amon remains unresolved after Adam says he is neither simply an avatar nor a product of cosmic corruption 5. |
| Unnamed regional collaborator | One of the two Sequence 3 Mentors of Deceit backing Wilt | Helps establish the noble identity required for the scam outside the Rorsted Archipelago 9 15. |
Gold-Mine Fraud
- No. 037 agrees to support Wilt’s expanded version of Lanevus’s mining scam, which targets Tingen’s nobles 9.
- His responsibilities include the island, gold-mine documentation, governor’s office, and protection against divination 9.
- He negotiates a combined 60% share for himself and the other regional avatar, divided equally between them 9.
- The delivered documents include prospecting and gold-quality reports, connections involving the governor-general’s office and military, and a noble identity naming Wilt himself 15.
Equipment / Items
- Crystal monocles — The avatars’ signature accessories. According to Wilt, they derive from the Uniqueness and enable internal communication through Worms of Time 9.
- Wilt’s modified monocle — Created by Amon using a corrupted Worm of Time. Grants Sequence 4 Parasite abilities; prolonged use causes compulsive theft and makes nearby possessions randomly appear on the wearer 5.
Relationships
- Adam — Older brother and collaborator. Helps assess Wilt’s corruption and devise a treatment that also protects Amon from their linked fates 3 4 41.
- Wilt Mirage / Xu Zhe — Formerly a parasitized host, later designated No. 041. Amon supplies equipment and an advancement while remaining uncertain about his true condition 1 4 5.
- Circle of Inevitability — Source of the contamination that spreads through Wilt and costs Amon powerful avatars. Its interference also binds Wilt’s fate to Amon’s 3 4.
- Ince Zangwill — Recognizes the danger associated with Amon. Wilt exploits that reputation by putting on a monocle, frightening Ince into abandoning his intended attack 7 8.
Honorific Name
The hand that moves time;
the shadow that roams fate;
the embodiment of deceit and mischief.
Notable Quotes
“Although I can look at your memories, the contamination on you is at too high a level, and it’s too severe. It wouldn’t be worth it for me.”
“I’m more curious about his condition. Is he my avatar, or a product of corruption from that existence in the cosmos? Or... is he both?”
