Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Sequence 9 Marauder — Marauder Pathway Before the story 1 The original Wilt consumed a Marauder characteristic looted from a corpse, becoming a Beyonder.
Sequence 8 Swindler — Marauder Pathway Before the story 1 Advanced after spending ten years obtaining the potion formula and ingredients; subsequently became one of Amon’s avatars.
Sequence 9 Dancer — Eternal Aeon Pathway 2 Received a boon from the Circle of Inevitability during its attempt to corrupt him. The sarira suppressed the corruption, leaving him with a second Pathway.
Sequence 9 Monster — Wheel of Fortune Pathway 4 Drank Adam’s potion to help draw on the Key of Light and counter the Circle of Inevitability. Required healing and mental stabilization during the advancement.
Sequence 7 Cryptologist — Marauder Pathway 5 Amon advanced him as a reward for providing the Honorific Names of the Key of Light and Circle of Inevitability.
  • Further advancement remains unconfirmed: Wilt was still digesting his Monster Potion and preparing to seek materials for the Sequence 8 Robot Potion before his first full Tarot Club meeting 44.

Background / History

The original Wilt Mirage lost both parents to a plague at eight and survived by stealing. After becoming a Beyonder and eventually reaching Sequence 8, he acquired a Marauder Pathway item and was subsequently turned into an avatar of Amon. Four years later, the avatars stationed around the Rorsted Archipelago overwhelmingly selected him to scout an ancient ruin, where he died 1.

Xu Zhe awakened in Wilt’s body with the deceased man’s memories and knowledge of the world of Lord of the Mysteries. Knowing that Amon could discover an unfamiliar consciousness, he adopted Wilt’s identity and rehearsed his memories before leaving the ruin. The sarira he recovered there destroyed the gathered avatars when a demigod attempted to search his memories, then entered his body. His attempt to survive the ensuing supernatural attention brought him into contact with the Key of Light and Circle of Inevitability 1.

Personality

Wilt is survival-driven and quick to improvise. He conceals fear behind a composed performance, uses stronger figures’ reputations as protection, and retreats decisively when a battle turns against him. His impersonation of Amon frightened Ince Zangwill into leaving him alone, while his escape from the Wraith prioritized survival over finishing the fight 1 7 50.

His opportunism extends to theft, blackmail, and exploiting supposed allies. He extorts Darkwill, recruits Lanevus through fear, and repeatedly treats Amon as a convenient recipient of blame for his own misconduct. Nevertheless, he also protects Melissa and her friends, restores ghosts’ awareness, and seeks a way to help Old Neil. His compassionate actions frequently overlap with his practical goals of earning merit and digesting potions 7 13 17 23 28 37.

Abilities & Skills

Marauder Pathway

  • Theft and deception: Uses stealing, persuasive speech, charm, and misleading reasoning. Successfully deceiving Tris produced noticeable potion digestion 6 7.
  • Mental Interference: Created a false image of his movement to misdirect Tris’s dagger attack 6.
  • Cryptologist perception: Possesses exceptional observation, useful for erasing evidence of his presence and interpreting supernatural situations 7 50.
  • Physical benefits: His Sequence 7 provides a modest improvement to physique and proficiency with short weapons 6.
  • Knowledge limitations: His inherited avatar knowledge includes Hermes and Jotun, but initially lacked messenger contracts and sacrifice or bestowal rituals 25.

Dancer Pathway

  • Enhanced flexibility and Spirituality: Supports ritual dances that combine movement, rhythm, and Spirituality to influence surrounding supernatural forces 3.
  • Dance of Attraction: Draws nearby entities or influences toward him and, at a price, attaches them to his body so he can use an ability or trait 9.
  • Spirit collection: Uses the dance to gather ghosts, grievances, and resentful spirits, later releasing them to frighten factory owners 10 43.
  • Dangerous targeting: The dance attracted the Hidden Sage, whose knowledge infusion nearly caused him to lose control before the sarira intervened 19.

Monster Pathway and Fate Perception

  • Heightened Spirituality and intuition: His intuition allowed him to shoot toward an invisible Trissy’s position 6 20.
  • Perception of fate: Recognized discordance in Klein’s fate and identified Sharon through the ominous condition visible around her brow 15 32.
  • Spirit Vision: Inspects spirit bodies, resentment, and merit, including the contrasting conditions of guests at the charity auction 31.
  • Acting method: Uses Dancer-assisted possessions and hauntings to behave as a “Monster.” These incidents attracted increased official patrols, making further digestion harder 12 25 40.

Key of Light and Holy Monk Methods

  • Sefirah access: Enters the Key of Light by reciting its Honorific Name; its interior resembles a Buddhist realm containing statues of deceased holy monks’ Merit Avatars 2 10.
  • Scripture of Deliverance from Misfortune: Uses the Sefirah’s fate-related power to relieve suffering and receive merit in return 10.
  • Merit Sarira Condensation Method: Learned a method for condensing merit into sariras. Its documented applications include temporary luck, Golden Body of Merit refinement, and avatar cultivation; learning the method does not establish that he completed all three 10.
  • Spiritual restoration: Restores ghosts’ awareness with golden light and offers to guide them into reincarnation 10 28.
  • Merit empowerment: Infuses bullets, blades, and his body with merit. It destroyed a parasitic spider and dispersed the black mist surrounding it 19 21.
  • Luck-assisted theft: Spends merit to obtain a specific stolen ability rather than relying on a random result. Doing so shortens the remaining duration of his merit protection 32.
  • Dream divination: Uses the Key of Light to investigate divine attention and locate Old Neil’s home, although the resulting visions are not always easy to interpret 25.
  • Avatar limitation: Established only a faint connection with an arhat statue; attempting to activate it caused severe strain because his Sequence was too low 10.

Artifact-Assisted Abilities

  • Spectator abilities: His Manipulator item grants access to psychological powers, including Mind Breath, Frenzy, Psychological Invisibility, hypnosis, psychological suggestion, Placate, and Dream Traversal 5 6 16 21 31 33.
  • Marauder abilities: His monocle allows demigod-level theft, including stealing distance and temporarily taking opponents’ abilities 5 13 21.
  • Possession countermeasure: Stole a Wraith’s possession ability to force it out of his body 50.
  • Spirituality cost: A single early use of Mind Breath consumed more than half his Spirituality. Escaping the Wraith likewise required most of his remaining reserves 6 50.

Ritual Magic and Life Alchemy

  • Life Alchemy knowledge: Received incomplete knowledge from the Hidden Sage concerning effects comparable to a Sequence 4 Classic Alchemist’s abilities, reproducible through rituals and Beyonder materials 19 25.
  • Cryptologist research: Believed completing Old Neil’s unfinished resurrection ritual could digest most of his Cryptologist Potion; completion is not documented 25.
  • Charm creation: Uses spiritual materials and stolen or bestowed divine responses to create charms. Klein later taught him sacrifice and bestowal rituals 38 48.
  • Practical limitations: Thirty-two later charm-making attempts yielded only five successful responses and required repeated rests to recover Spirituality 49.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Golden sarira: Recovered from the ruin and housed within his spirit body. Suppresses the Circle of Inevitability’s corruption, stabilizes him after dangerous knowledge infusion, and supports his merit practices 1 2 10 19.
  • Manipulator mask/ring: Adam’s gift, formed from a Sequence 4 Spectator characteristic. Changes shape and grants a Manipulator’s abilities. Its stated negative effect begins after three minutes, causing involuntary disclosure of thoughts and potentially projecting them into nearby minds 5.
  • Parasite monocle: Amon fused a Worm of Time into Wilt’s right-eye monocle, making it equivalent to a Sequence 4 Marauder item. After five minutes, it induces stealing urges and randomly transfers others’ belongings to him. It also enables communication with other avatars 5 9 49.
    • Despite those delayed side-effect thresholds, Wilt was warned not to use either demigod item for more than ten seconds 5.
  • Conventional weapons: Carries a revolver, ammunition, daggers, and a shortsword; supplements their damage with merit 16 19 21.
  • Restorative potions: Obtains Spirituality-restoring and healing potions from Darkwill, initially through credit and intimidation and later as payment for a rescue 23 38.
  • Klein’s amulet: Given in thanks for saving Melissa. Wilt privately regarded it as a potential means for Sefirah Castle to locate him 15.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Ruin Incident and Three-Pathway Treatment

  • Survives the ruin, the destruction of more than a hundred avatars, and the Circle of Inevitability’s attempted corruption through the sarira and Key of Light 1 2.
  • Is sent to the Corpse Cathedral, where Adam and Amon examine his condition. Their treatment makes him a Beyonder of three nonadjacent Pathways rather than leaving him vulnerable to becoming the Circle’s puppet 3 4.
  • Leaves with an information-gathering assignment, two demigod items, and his Cryptologist advancement 5.

Tingen Gold-Mine Fraud

  • Adapts Lanevus’s fraudulent investment scheme to target nobles, raise money, digest his potions, and deepen the Conservative–New Party divide 8.
  • Receives forged documents identifying him as an impoverished noble connected to Baron Mirage. The supposed inheritance and gold-mine history are a cover story, not his genuine biography 15 28.
  • Gains Earl Corodo’s involvement and Mayor Dennis’s support against the Negan Family; subsequently recruits Sharon to bring in investors 24 30 33.
  • Learns that the New Party in Backlund has become involved, prompting renewed suspicion that someone is manipulating his fate 41.

Hauntings and East Borough

  • Creates supernatural incidents to digest his Monster Potion. A resentful water spirit he had confined in the Khoy River escapes and threatens Selena, Melissa, and Elizabeth, forcing him to intervene before the Nighthawks arrive 12 13 40.
  • Redirects his efforts toward East Borough, combining the grievances of dead workers with opportunities to accumulate merit 28.
  • Uses Trissy’s knowledge of local factories to collect resentment and begins frightening factory owners, including Maynard 43.

Tarot Club Membership

  • Explains his unusual condition to Klein while concealing his transmigration. His account instead attributes the return of his original consciousness to the supernatural incident surrounding the sarira 41.
  • Joins as Mr. Lovers, exchanges Beyonder knowledge, and establishes ritual contact with Klein 41 45 48.
  • Uses the club’s connections to arrange the sale of stolen jewelry 48 49.

Factory Encounter with the Rose School of Thought

  • Finds mutilated workers and encounters a Sequence 6 Zombie and Sequence 5 Wraith while gathering resentment with Trissy 50.
  • His opening Mind Breath misses; the Wraith injures and possesses him. Wilt steals the possession ability and immediately escapes through Dream Traversal 50.
  • Trissy subsequently emerges from a mirror near him, bloodied and unconscious 50.
