Background / History

Life at Shrek Academy

Dai Mubai had fled to the Heaven Dou Empire to avoid a conflict. Zhu Zhuqing regarded this as cowardice and despised his subsequent lifestyle of chasing women and drinking 10.

When Tang San and Xiao Wu arrived at Shrek Academy, Dai Mubai arranged for them to bypass the second and third entrance tests and proceed directly to Zhao Wuji’s assessment. He explained that this exemption was treatment they had earned rather than favoritism 2.

After Zhao Wuji injured Tang San, Dai Mubai helped him leave and sought Oscar’s healing sausages. He later had Oscar produce both a Big Sausage and a Detoxifying Sausage, but Tang San’s condition did not improve. Confused and angered by Tang San’s rejection of their help, Dai Mubai withdrew 3 4.

He also broke up Tang San’s fight with Ma Hongjun, explained Ma Hongjun’s Evil Fire, and led the newcomers to breakfast. Flender subsequently entrusted him with explaining the academy rules 9 10.

Soul Fighting and Zhu Zhuqing’s Rejection

At the Soto Great Soul Arena, Dai Mubai apparently won his individual match easily, emerging with his white clothes untouched while Tang San, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun were visibly injured 16.

On the journey back, he defended Ma Hongjun’s brothel visits as a way to manage Evil Fire without abandoning cultivation. His claim that his own “taste” was better only worsened Zhu Zhuqing’s opinion of him; she called him disgusting and left with Xiao Wu 16 17.

Star Dou Great Forest Expedition

Dai Mubai joined the expedition to obtain Oscar’s next Soul Ring. With Xiao Jue’s carriage reserved for Ning Rongrong, Xiao Wu, and Zhu Zhuqing, he ran alongside the other boys. His Soul Elder cultivation allowed him to lead the runners, although he was exhausted by their arrival in town 18 19.

During dinner, Dai Mubai openly disparaged Canghui Academy. A Canghui student then collided with a server, sending a dish onto his head after Tang San failed to intercept it. Dai Mubai retaliated by activating his War God System for the first time 19 20.

The resulting 100% Barehanded Blade Catch effect forced seven students to kneel and catch his punches. Against the stronger Ye Zhiqiu, however, it rebounded and made Dai Mubai kneel as well. A subsequent punch unexpectedly forced Zhao Wuji to crash through the ceiling and kneel before him. Once Dai Mubai’s points ran out, Zhao Wuji drove away the Canghui group and beat him for ten minutes 20 21.

Dai Mubai nevertheless continued into the forest the following morning. During the Titan Giant Ape’s attack, he was blasted onto a tree branch and, while hanging upside down, urged Tang San to pursue the abducted Xiao Wu 21 26.

Yu Xiaogang’s Training

Flender pressured Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun into participating in Yu Xiaogang’s three-month training wager against Xiao Jue’s students 29.

Yu Xiaogang assigned the boys ten weighted round trips between Shrek Academy and Suotuo City. Dai Mubai struggled to keep pace with Tang San, initially warning him about his bleeding before resolving not to be outdone 30 31.

Appearance

• Blond hair: Introduced with blond hair, later described as golden 1 20.
• Handsome features: His appearance is explicitly described as handsome before Zhao Wuji’s beating leaves his face swollen and bruised 20.
• White clothing: Leaves his individual arena match with his white clothes immaculate 16.

Personality

Dai Mubai combines practical concern for his classmates with impatience. He warns Tang San about Oscar’s sausages, escorts newcomers through admission, and seeks treatment after Tang San is injured. When that assistance is angrily rejected, however, he quickly loses his temper 1 2 3 4.

He is proud, competitive, and sensitive about his reputation. Ma Hongjun’s account of him dating several women prompts threats to stop talking, while Tang San’s determination during weighted running makes Dai Mubai push harder rather than accept being outperformed 9 31.

His arrogance also leads him into avoidable confrontations. He belittles Canghui Academy without provocation and initially treats the War God System’s ability to force opponents to kneel as proof of his superiority. His confidence collapses when Zhao Wuji becomes the effect’s unintended target 19 20.

Soul Elder Cultivation

• Physical endurance: Runs at the front of the boys during the carriage journey because of his higher cultivation 18.
• Individual combat: Apparently wins his one-on-one arena match without visible injury or damage to his clothing 16.
• Power disparity: Cannot meaningfully resist Zhao Wuji, a Soul Saint, once the system effect ends 20.

War God System

The War God System generates a random battle effect when activated and consumes War God Points to sustain it 20.

• Point acquisition: Dai Mubai earns War God Points by completing missions 20.
• Documented cost: His first displayed effect consumes one point per second 20.
• Termination: The effect ends automatically when his balance reaches zero 20.

100% Barehanded Blade Catch

Despite its name, this effect works with Dai Mubai’s punches: affected opponents involuntarily kneel and raise both hands to catch his fist 20.

• Multiple targets: Successive punches force seven Canghui Academy students into kneeling positions 20.
• Rebound condition: If an opponent has higher Soul Power, the effect rebounds onto Dai Mubai. Ye Zhiqiu briefly kneels before Dai Mubai is also forced down and Ye Zhiqiu escapes control 20.
• Unintended target: A later punch affects Zhao Wuji above the dining area, bringing him through the ceiling to catch Dai Mubai’s fist 20.

Relationships

• Tang San — Classmate whom Dai Mubai initially calls his brother. He helps with admission and treatment, but also mocks Tang San’s misunderstood durian remedy and competes with him during training 1 2 4 6 31.
• Oscar — Familiar companion whom he calls “Little Oscar.” They cooperate in trying to treat Tang San; Dai Mubai later refuses Oscar’s request to be carried during the expedition 3 4 18.
• Ma Hongjun — Classmate who calls him “Boss Dai.” Dai Mubai explains and defends his Evil Fire predicament, while Ma Hongjun repeatedly embarrasses him by discussing his romantic habits 9 16 17.
• Zhu Zhuqing — Someone whose opinion he tries to protect by curbing Ma Hongjun’s remarks. She condemns his flight from conflict, womanizing, and comments about brothels 9 10 16 17.
• Flender — Dean whom Dai Mubai treats with respect and admiration. Flender delegates academy duties to him and pressures him into Yu Xiaogang’s wager 10 29.
• Zhao Wuji — Teacher and expedition leader. After being involuntarily forced to kneel, Zhao Wuji severely punishes Dai Mubai 20 21.
• Xiao Jue — Academy cleaner whom Dai Mubai initially mocks as inexperienced. Xiao Jue criticizes his provocation of Canghui Academy and watches his subsequent punishment with amusement 17 19 21.
• Yu Xiaogang — Instructor who places him on the weighted-running regimen for the three-month wager 29 30 31.
