Background / History
Loss of His Original Soul
Trazyn remembers the C’tan consuming his people’s lives and souls, describing the experience as flesh losing its warmth and something being torn from his bones. The memory leaves him intensely distrustful of promises concerning souls 35.
Believing the Necrons had no future, he devoted himself to collecting history and treasures rather than pursuing the future sought by Silent King Szarekh. Han Mingxuan’s ability to create a soul changes that outlook 41.
Encounter with Han Mingxuan
After observing Nostramo for an extended period, Trazyn decides that the planet deserves a place in his museum’s upper galleries. He immobilizes Han and uses phase technology to isolate the room, but Han’s writing brush strikes him and later pins him to the floor. Neither spatial technology nor a phase dagger can dislodge or damage it. When Trazyn detaches his arm to escape, the resulting pain makes him lose consciousness 34.
On awakening, he revels in feeling pain again, yet reacts violently when Han offers him a soul. Suspecting another deception like the C’tan’s, he threatens either to kill Han or preserve him as a captive collectible. After Han successfully implants the soul seed, Trazyn apologizes, gives him three protective artifacts, and leaves to investigate his new condition 35 36.
Preparation for Resurrection
Trazyn searches for Szarekh’s communication coordinates and sends a detailed account of Han’s abilities to the most recent location he can find. He regards Han as a possible future for the Necrons, though no reply from the Silent King is shown 41.
Over the following year, Trazyn creates a biological body from stored Necrontyr genetic information. To protect his soul seed, he keeps his neural circuits and logic units operating at minimum levels and delegates other work to his Tomb World’s staff 41 42.
Before proceeding with resurrection, he questions Han’s motives. Han explains that giving and strengthening souls helps uncover his own concealed soul projection in the Warp. Satisfied, Trazyn deploys elite troops to Nostramo without disrupting civilian life and undergoes the procedure in Archmagos Angrak’s laboratory 42 43.
Life After Resurrection
Trazyn’s first experiences in his new body include drinking green apple juice and eating an apple. His enthusiasm quickly overwhelms his cultivated manners, and Han celebrates his return to life with a feast attended by Curze, Sevatar, Talos, and their companions 44.
He accepts an exchange of instruction: the young men will teach him the script needed for Han’s soul-nourishing literature, while he teaches them science and combat. He also embraces the role of their “uncle,” turning his former mechanical body into a training resource 45.
Nostramo’s New Home
As repayment to Han, Trazyn orders his Crypteks to remodel an entire star system within two Nostraman weeks. The resulting binary system contains twelve planets, including a blue world modeled after Earth. Han names it the Peaceful Star System 46 47.
Trazyn supplies a control device with an authenticated dead hand system bound to Han. He also promises that, if Han dies and the sector becomes hellish or faces rampant Warp Daemons, he will destroy it or preserve it in his collection, as Han requests 47.
His phase portals subsequently enable Nostramo’s population to evacuate within half a month. Trazyn remains with Han until they are the last two people on the old planet and bid it farewell 48.
Appearance
- Mechanical body: A towering metal skeleton with green, flame-like optical lights. Its Living Metal repairs damage automatically 34.
- Biological attire: A dark gray, vintage-style suit over a white stand-collar shirt and patterned vest, with dark gold embroidery at the cuffs 44.
- Accessories: A bronze Necron Obelisk brooch, a subtly patterned silk pocket square, matte leather shoes, and a gem-adorned silver-gray cane 44.
- Soul mark: A faint golden cane-shaped mark on his wrist. Han describes it as ineradicable proof of his soul’s existence; its full appearance will indicate that the soul is healthy 45.
Personality
Trazyn approaches rare people, artifacts, and even inhabited planets as potential exhibits. His refined self-image coexists with coercion: he calls himself a discerning collector while planning to take Nostramo and threatening to make Han watch his achievements collapse 34 35.
His hostility toward soul restoration comes from remembered betrayal rather than simple disbelief. Once Han proves his claim, Trazyn openly apologizes and expresses gratitude. He treasures the new soul above his entire vault and calls it a collectible worth defending with his life 36 42.
Resurrection brings out an exuberant appetite and a warmer familial side. He welcomes being called “uncle,” quietly repairs his nephews’ genetic defects, and repays Han with extensive technological support. His affection does not make him a gentle instructor: he considers repeated lethal combat acceptable when time reversal can undo the deaths 44 45 46.
Abilities & Skills
Necron Technology and Spatial Manipulation
- Immobilizes Han with a field and shifts his room into an isolated space 34.
- Uses phase portals for personal travel, transportation, and population-scale evacuation 41 44 48.
- Stores his former body and several carts of supplies with a gesture 44.
- Creates a dimensional training space populated by Necron opponents 45.
- Protects Han in space with a force-field shield 47.
- Limit: His spatial technology and phase dagger cannot overcome Han’s mysterious brush 34.
Temporal Reversal and Combat Training
- Reverses time to recover trainees killed during combat exercises 45.
- Uses Necron opponents that learn the squad’s attack patterns and combat logic, forcing the trainees to develop new tactics 46.
- Subjects the squad to thousands of deaths within half a day; they barely pass the adaptation training 46.
Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering
- Constructs his replacement body using preserved Necrontyr genetic information and his accumulated knowledge and collection 41 45.
- Quietly removes hidden genetic problems from his nephews during their repeated training deaths, increasing their strength and speed 46.
- Incorporates Necrontyr technology into his new body to guard against Warp corruption 45.
Enhanced Biological Body
- Can travel through space in the flesh and draw energy from any light source 45.
- Retains one hundred percent of the authority he possessed in his mechanical body 45.
- Is designed to resist weapons and poisons; Trazyn states that, without the curse, it could live for at least ten thousand years 41.
- Initially requires practice to control ordinary movements, including catching an apple 44.
Soul Cultivation
- His soul seed is described as exceptionally stable and unique unless Han creates another equally special root 41 42.
- Stability does not equal strength: after resurrection, Han rates its quantity at one against an ordinary human’s ten 45.
- Must learn the original script of Han’s specially prepared literature to nourish his soul; a Gothic translation will not work 45.
- Has no documented completion of this cultivation process in the supplied chapters.
Planetary Engineering and Technical Support
- Commands the Crypteks who remodel the Peaceful Star System in two weeks using Han’s Earth-inspired templates 46.
- States that each remodeled planet can support up to thirteen billion people before unchecked overpopulation damages its environment 47.
- Supplies technology allowing the original five thousand Eternal Night Justiciar Legion members’ ceremonial armor to fit them even if they later grow to three meters tall 50.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
Personal Equipment
- Former Living Metal body — Self-repairing mechanical form retained after resurrection, with a backup of his consciousness; later used to support combat instruction 34 44 45.
- Staff — Used to control the immobilizing field during his first encounter with Han 34.
- Phase dagger — Unsuccessfully tested against Han’s brush 34.
- Silver-gray cane — Gem-adorned accessory carried after his return to biological life 44 46.
- Han’s recipes — Given to him so he can reproduce the dishes from his resurrection feast or have someone prepare them 45.
Artifacts Given to Han Mingxuan
- Blackstone ring — An item from Trazyn’s private collection that completely blocks the Warp’s influence 36.
- Phase teleportation pendant — Allows Trazyn to sense the wearer’s condition and location 36.
- Time-crystal watch — A shield generator granting immunity to temporal attacks and permitting two time reversals 36.
Relationships
- Han Mingxuan — Initially an intended collectible, later his soul’s creator, trusted friend, and principal ally. Trazyn adds Han to his Tomb World’s underlying protocols and credits his ideals with achieving what physics alone cannot 34 36 46 48.
- Konrad Curze — Han’s son and Trazyn’s honorary nephew. Curze initially attacks him as an intruder; they later become reciprocal teachers, with Curze helping him learn literacy while receiving technological and combat instruction 41 45.
- Sevatar, Talos, Shen, Cyrion, and the other young men — Honorary nephews and students. Trazyn secretly corrects their genetic flaws during training and adds them to his Tomb World’s protocols at a lower priority than Han 45 46.
- Szarekh — The Silent King, whose search for a Necron future previously differed from Trazyn’s collecting pursuits. Trazyn contacts him after receiving a soul seed to report the new possibility 41.
- Archmagos Angrak — Provides the laboratory and monitors the biological body during Trazyn’s resurrection 43 44.
Notable Quotes
“As a collector of refinement, I go wherever I please for a precious exhibit.” 34
“Mortal, I do not know how you did it, but at this moment, I apologize to you for my recklessness.” 36
“This will be the most precious collectible of my life, worthy of defending with my life, my friend.” 42
Trivia
- After resurrection, he becomes locally famous on Nostramo’s food street for his seemingly bottomless appetite; one vendor grows alarmed after serving him ten large bowls 49.
- His chosen location for the Peaceful Star System lies between Segmentum Obscurus and Segmentum Solar, directly along the Emperor’s route, making the imperial arrival earlier than Han and Curze expected 49.
